Chapter 33: Old Love Never Dies
23:34, 8 September 2014(Maya’s POV)
“Alright, Haz, that’s enough!” I exclaimed as he splashed water at me. “I can’t believe you thought we wouldn’t try to get you in the pool!” Harry exclaimed. “Yeah, you are a chicken!” Louis teased. “Well, maybe I am!” I cried. Lux giggled as she held on to Liam as he carried her around in the pool.
“You think you’ll have some soon?” Tom came up and asked me. “I’m not sure, but Liam sure does want one,” I told him. I smiled as I watched Liam and Lux play together. It made my heart melt. “You guys will make great parents,” Tom assured me. I just nodded. Every time I think about being pregnant and becoming a mom I automatically think about my first child the one I miscarried. My stomach drops and I instantly feel sick. How could I not take care of myself for the sake of my own child? The child who wasn’t even born yet had already lost its father and then lost its own life because my stupid mistakes, how was I suppose to even try to be a mom again when I couldn’t even take care of the first one?
I always pictured having a family with Liam and after that dream I had with Carter I thought about the twins I saw and how wonderful that would be. To have a little family with Liam, it’s my dream. But I didn’t know if I would ever be okay with trying to be a mom again. I watched as Liam played with Lux in the pool and it brought me so much joy. That’s what I wanted but I don’t know if I’m ready for it again.
(Liam’s POV)
“Liam, do you think you and Maya will have kids soon?” Harry asked me as we all got food. “Well, after we get married of course, but I hope soon after that,” I told him. “What about the band?” Zayn asked. “Nothing would change there,” I assured him. I watched Maya talk to Lou, I couldn’t help but wonder what they were talking about. Maya had been through a lot today and I’m glad our friends were willing to help her out. All the people here tonight were more than just my friends they were my family. We have been through just about everything together and they have been there for me when my family couldn’t be.
This journey from where we started to where we are now wouldn’t be the same if they weren’t in it. “Lee!” Maya exclaimed. I set down my plate a food and walked over to her. “Yes, babe?” I asked her with a chuckle as I approached her and Lou.
She smiled. Gosh I love her smile, she’s just so perfect and she doesn’t even know it. I fell in love with her so fast and I still find something new to fall in love with each day. I feel like the luckiest man out there just because I am marrying Maya.
“Lou was just asking me if we could watch Lux for a couple of days in two weeks. She would stay with us. Of course I want too, but I thought I would ask you first,” Maya told me. The thought of having Lux live with us for a couple days actually freaked me out a bit. I never have been responsible for another human being besides myself, but I love Lux and I am willing to help out Lou and Tom in any way they need help.
“Lou, you don’t even have to ask, of course she can stay with us,” I assured. Lou returned the biggest smile I have ever seen. “Thank you both so much, Lux will be so pleased to hear and Tom and I are so grateful for this!” Lou gushed. “Don’t mention it,” I told her.
The rest of the night was spent playing board games and laughing as hard as we possibly could. None of us wanted this night to end. I watched as everyone interacted with each other, and it made me feel so good inside. I loved when we all got to spend time with each other and it wasn’t work related. Niall and Harry were playing tricks on everyone and Zayn was recording it. At the same time Lux was yelling at everyone to be quiet so she could hear her movie. I’m so happy Maya got along with everyone because I honestly don’t think it would have worked if she didn’t fit in.
It was hard not having my family here with me each day, but I feel beyond blessed to have this family with me. They are more then I could ever ask for. I will never understand how I got so lucky to have them put in my life.
(Maya’s POV- the next day)
The drive to the courthouse was terrifying I didn’t want to go back there. Liam squeezed my hand and gave me a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry it will be okay,” He said. “I hope so,” I choke. “We will be okay,” he assured me. When we got there the front of the court house was covered with new crews and fans. Police officers escorted us inside for safety reasons. We took our seats and waited for it to start. When Liam was called to the stand my stomach dropped.
“Liam, did you know Jane was there that day?”
“No, I didn’t know she was in the studio, but she had been calling me all morning.”
“Did you ever answer one of the calls?”
“Yes, she said she needed to speak to me and I told her to stay away.”
‘Why did you tell her to stay away?”
“Because anytime she is around it just causes trouble.”
“Did you and Jane get along?”
“I never really had the chance to speak with her, I mean we were at some family functions together, but we never spoke.”
“Tell us about the first time you met Jane.”
“That was the worst morning of my life. She tracked us down at our hotel and screamed at Maya and then stormed out of the room and then that’s when her rumors started.”
“Did you hate Jane?”
“No, I didn’t. I just didn’t like the way she treated Maya, and now I know why she did what she did.”
“Would you have done anything to hurt Jane?”
Was this guy serious? Where is he getting these questions from?
“No, Sir, I would never hurt anyone.”
“I didn’t think so, but I thought I would check.”
Liam was stepped off the stand and he took his seat next to me. I grabbed his hand and he squeezed my hand. We waited for a verdict for what seemed like hours. When they said Jane was guilty I cried. I was so happy it was all over, I could go on with my life without worrying about if she was going to spread another rumor or not. Jane didn’t apologize or anything she was taken straight to her cell.
(Liam’s POV)
I could feel the tears running down my face, but they were happy tears. I was glad all of this was over. We could get ready for the wedding and just continue with our lives the way we wanted it to be. Maya was smiling from ear to ear. I was happy to see her that happy. As we went outside everyone was screaming questions from all over, but Maya refused to answer anything you could tell it was overwhelming for her. “Please just give her space,” I demanded but no one listen. “I said back up!” I hollered.
“Liam, please don’t,” Maya begged. I nodded and led her to the car. “Where do you want to go to celebrate?” I asked her once we were in the car. “Home, I want to change,” she laughed. “Sounds good to me,” I said with a smile. “We won,” she said in disbelief. “We did win, we always do,” I told her and then gave her a quick kiss.
She giggled. She looked right into my eyes. “I love you,” she said. “I love you too,” I told her. “I promise.” She laughed as she turned to buckle her seatbelt. “I promise too,” I said as I started the car.
The drive home Maya sang along to every song that came on the radio. I would sing along with her from time to time. “C’mon, Lee, we just won, lighten up!” She cried. “I’m sorry, just trying to focus on the road,” I told her.
“No one is even on this road,” she stated. “Well, you never know what could pop out,” I informed her. “I can see why everyone calls you dad,” she sighed as she looked out the window. When we got home she didn’t even wait for me, she just got out of the car and went into the house. I couldn’t tell her what was really bothering me.
(Maya’s POV)
Liam really ruined everything, I was so happy that we won and the court case was over and don’t forget that Jane was finally getting was she needed a long time ago. Why did he have to be such a buzzkill? I undressed and put on some yoga pants and one of my favorite sweatshirts. I threw my curly hair into a top knot. I looked in the mirror and sighed. There went my good mood. I heard a knock on the door. “You can come in,” I said dryly. “Hey, what would you like me to make for lunch?” Liam asked.
“I’m not hungry, I’m actually going to lay down for a bit,” I told him. “Mind if join you?” He asked. “No,” I practically whispered. “Okay, I just have to get out of this suit,” he informed me. “Okay,” I said. I walked over to bed and engulfed myself in the blankets. Soon Liam joined me and out of habit I cuddled up to him.
I felt his arms wrap around me and pull me closer to him. “I can’t wait until we’re married,” he whispered as he fell asleep. “Me either,” I sighed as I drifted to sleep.
(Chase’s POV)
“You must be exhausted,” Ana told me as I walked into the bar. “I am, I tried to sleep all afternoon, but my brain wouldn’t allow that one,” I told her. “Well, tonight you have a couple parties. You better wake up.” She joked. “When you say a couple how many do you mean?” I asked her as I stepped behind the counter. “Three or four, but Bri will be in here later to help you out,” she told me. “Why didn’t anyone warn me?” I sighed. “Sorry, Chase, but you should have figured,” Jane sighed.
“Yeah yeah, it’s a Friday night everyone parties,” she groan. “Chase, what is going on?” She asked me. “I can’t get over Maya,” I sigh. “Chase, seriously?!” She barked. “I know, it’s pathetic, but it’s true,” I tell her. “Well, you need to find yourself a pretty girl and get over Maya,” she informed me. “And besides you was engaged to your best friend, that’s just wrong!” She added.
I nodded. I knew that and I knew it was wrong, but there was something about her I couldn’t shake. The rest of the night was insane all the parties had huge tabs by the end of the night and Bri wasn’t much help, as usual, I don’t even know why she has this job. I was so happy when 2 am rolled around. “You want to hang out?” Bri asked as I locked up the bar. “No,” I simply said I put the keys in my pocket and walked to my car.
“Are you sure?” She whined. “Yeah, I’m sure,” I snapped. “Well, someone is grumpy,” She whined. I didn’t say anything I just unlocked my car and got in. I drove away before she could ask me any more questions. When I got to my apartment there was a note on my door. I grabbed it and walked into my apartment.
I threw my keys on the counter and set down my couch to read the note. \
Chase,
I mailed this to my mom and that’s how it got to you. You were right, I have changed. I’m not the same person I was when I was with Carter. I let the fame get to my head, even though everyone says I didn’t. You were right I did. I know you will never forgive for what I did to you and I don’t blame you I wouldn’t be able to forgive me either. But I want you to know that when we were together, even if no one knew about it I thought we would last, I thought I was in love with you. I never intended on hurting you, I promise. I could never hurt you.
-Maya
I just started at the note and read it over and over again. Why was she telling me this now? When did she right this?
Chase: Maya…hey…I just got your letter….I love you too…
I set my phone down on the couch next to me and turned the TV. I wasn’t getting any sleep anytime soon. When I turned the TV on everyone was talking about Maya’s court case.
“Talk about a family feud today Maya Hudson’s cousin, Jane, was found guilty for assaulting her and stalking her two months ago. Maya and Liam are seen leaving the courthouse, but oddly enough neither of them looks very happy they won.”
I was glad Maya finally got justice, I followed the case since it happened. I couldn’t believe someone I let get close to me and my best friend. The whole idea was just weird and unnatural. I looked at my phone and before I knew it was almost 5 o’clock. I watched as they flashed pictures of the day of the assault and the pictures that were taken of Maya, soon they played the camera footage of the actual event.
I didn’t want to watch it but it was one of those things you just couldn’t pull yourself away from.
Maya: I take it you got the note?
I heard my phone buzz but I didn’t bother checking it, it was probably Bri again trying to get with me. I don’t know how Maya ever put up with her. My mom always said my dad drove her to drink when I was younger and I never fully understood what that meant until I met Bri. I hate that I have to work with her, she doesn’t do her job all she does is flirt with the men that come in hoping one will take her home.
