Chapter 34: Selfish

09:20, 16 September 2014

(Maya’s POV)

“I can’t believe we got up at five and were ready to go and they are running late!” I snap. Today was full of press for the guys and I was asked to tag along, probably to look good for the media since the court case and everything else.  “Maya, it will be okay, this gives you more time to collect yourself,” Liam yawns. “Ah, right because I need to collect myself,” I growls.  “Did you forget to take a happy pill this morning or something?” Liam snapped and then left the room. I couldn’t tell him I woke up with that text from Chase that would kill him but I couldn’t have him in a bad mood on a day full of press. I followed Liam into the living room.

“What do you want?” Liam snapped as he flipped through the TV channels. “Well, I was going to apologize,” I sighed. “I just don’t understand what’s going on with you,” he told me. “Are you serious?” I asked him as I leaned up again the door frame.

He just shook his head and turned the TV off. He set down the remote on the coffee table and just stared straight ahead. “Liam, please let’s not do this today,” I begged him. “I know all of this has every hard on you, but did you ever stop and think about how all of this was affecting me?” He sighed.

No, I never did. I can’t believe how selfish I had been without even knowing it. “Liam, I’m sorry, I should have been concerned about you as well, but I guess I was so caught up in all of this I never even stopped to think about you.” I confessed. “I know,” he said practically in tears. “Why are you crying?” I asked him trying to not to cry.

“I tried so hard to stay strong for you, Maya, I really did. I never said anything about how I feel, I always made sure when I talked to anyone about this it wouldn’t get back to you. I didn’t want you to hurt anymore then you already did.  Part of me died watching you suffer these past two months. I just wish you saw how hard I was trying to hide my own pain.” He said.

I just stood there blinking tears out of my eyes.  “I’m sorry, Liam, I really am.” I repeated over and over again. There was a honk outside and he just looked at me. I walked over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder to my surprise he grabbed my hand and pulled onto his lap. “I know you are sorry,” He whispered. “I love you Liam, forever,” I whispered and hugged him. “I love you too, Maya, more than you will ever know.” He said as he hugged me back. “We probably should get out there,” I laughed. “You’re possibly correct,” Liam said. I quickly kissed him and got up. “I am truly sorry though,” I reminded him. “I know, and so am I,” He assured me. “What exactly are you sorry for?” I asked him confused. “I’m not sure,” he chuckled. “Lee, you have nothing to be sorry for,” I assure him as we headed out the door.

When we got to hotel everyone had just gotten there. “Alright, this is the first of many stops today so let’s start on a good note!” Paul pretty much yelled. “Paul, its way to early to be yelling,” Harry yawned. “Well, Harold, wake up because we have a lot to do today,”  Paul informed him.

“Alright, let’s get you all prettied up,” Lou came and told me. I just nodded and followed her to her station. “So, Liam, told me about this morning,” She said as she started to do my hair. “Oh, he did?” I asked. I wasn’t every surprised, I knew the guys always confided in Lou. “Yeah, but don’t worry he seems much better,” she assured me. “I hope so. I really didn’t want to start today off like that,” I sighed. “Maya, he’s just going through a rough patch, you guys have to stick together during this,” she informed me. “I know, I need to be more aware of his feelings.” I told her.

“Everything will work out. Now what are we feeling today?” She asked me. “You’re the stylist that’s your job Lou,” I laughed. “Alright, how about tons of volume with a side braid?” She asked. “Sounds perfect.” I assured her.  “I was thinking a statement lip today as well. Just a lot of sass,” She informed me. “Go for it Lou, you are the expert.” I joke. “Whatever you do she will look amazing,” Liam came up and said. I smiled at him. “Shouldn’t you be at the meeting?” Lou asked him.

“Simon is running late,” Liam said as he set in the chair next to us. “Where is everyone else?” I asked him. “Oh they are on the balcony making the fans go crazy,” he chuckled. “That was INSANE!” I heard Harry exclaim as he came back into the room. “You should have been there!” Zayn came and told Liam. “I’m okay,” he brushed it off. “Simon, is here, Maya we will be back for you soon,” Paul came and told us. I nodded and the guys went with Paul.

“Where is Tom and Lux today?” I asked Lou as I took a sip of my Passion Tea Lemonade from Starbucks. “They are meeting up with us for lunch, Lux needed her sleep,” Lou said as she teased the crown of my hair. “Lucky girl, I need some sleep too,” I laughed. “Well you should have got some caffeine from Starbucks,” she jabbed. “Eh, this is much better than coffee,” I informed her. “I don’t know about that one,” she laughed.

(Liam’s POV)

“Here is a list of questions the reporters were told they were not allowed to ask,” Simon said as he handed each of us a list. “So pretty much anything to do with the court case or Maya?” Harry sighed. “There is more, keep reading,” Simon told him. As we went over everything that was going to happen for the day I couldn’t help but think about the conversation I had with Maya this morning at our house.

“Liam, do you understand?” Simon asked pulling me back to reality. “Yeah, I think so,” I said. Simon just smirked and went on talking.  “Do you think it would be okay if Maya answered some quesitons?” Paul asked. “I thought she was,” I declare. “Well, she was, but this morning she pulled me had texted me over wise,” Simon explained. “When did she do this?” I asked as I moved to the edge of my seat.

I couldn’t believe she did this. What was she thinking? If she didn’t answer any questions it would only make the media talk even more, and we all know none of us want that.  “Earlier this morning, I believe you guys were on your way here,” Simon told me. I now knew why she did what she did. She didn’t want to take the attention off of the guys and I and draw it towards herself.

“I’ll talk to her,” I told him. I excused myself from the meeting and went to find Maya. “Maya, are you in here?” I said as I entered the room. I heard Maya talking on the phone but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. “Liam! There you are!” She exclaimed as she walked towards me. “Here I am,” I sighed. “Oh great, Simon told you didn’t he?” she groaned. “Yeah, he did, what were you thinking?” I asked her.

“I was thinking I shouldn’t be so selfish,” she whispered. “Maya, you were asked to be a part of this, they want you to answer questions, you have to do this,” I told her. “I don’t know, Lee, I just want to go home,” she whined.

“Maya, look I know this is hard, but the more we talk about it the easier it all gets,” I tried to motivate her. “Fine, I’ll do it,” she groaned. I smiled at her.  “That’s my girl,” I joked. She looked up at me and smiled. “You are so lucky I love you,” She laughed.  I chuckled. “I know.”

(Maya’s POV)

Soon we were ushered down to one of the meeting rooms to do the first interview of the day. I was super nervous even though the reporters had a list of questions they couldn’t ask that didn’t mean they didn’t have a way to tip toe around that and ask a different way.  “It’s going to be okay,” Liam whispered as we took our seats. I smiled at him. I was ready for whatever they threw at me, because I knew he wouldn’t let them bring me down.

*Sorry about the wait…life is crazy! I’ve been sick with shingles and a virus it has been livid. But I’m trying to catch up! Hang in there! XOXO*
