Chapter 33
06:54, 11 April 2017There was a crowd of doctors around the entrance to Kim's hospital room the next morning.
"What's going on here?" Christopher asked.
"Nothing, these are just trainees from medical school. It's not a thing to worry about."
They moved aside and he walked into her room.
"Oh how I hate seeing my baby like this..."
"You and me both." Adam set a bouquet of flowers in the window sill.
"I start school next week, mommy. I'm gonna be in kindergarten. I wanted to bring you and daddy for career day...but I'll be too sad if you're not there. I love daddy too, but it just won't be the same."
"I drew this picture for you, mommy. It's me, Hannah, you and daddy. I even drew you and daddy in your uniforms." Brayden said, hanging the picture up on the wall.
Hank knocked on the door and Adam motioned for him to come in.
"How you holding up?" He asked, handing him a card.
"Not great. Life is really bad right now."
"It's hard, you'll get through it. I know her, she'll beat this. You on the other hand, you take off all the time you need so you can be with her and the kids. Come back when you feel ready."
"Thanks."
"I'm not replacing either of you in my unit. Your spots are there for you."
"But you're short staffed."
"We'll manage."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
"Thank you."
"I wish there was something I could do for you guys. If there's anything, anything at all you need, you let me know."
"Thank you."
"I have to get back to the station, but you have my number."
"Yes I do."
Hank looked down at Brayden and Hannah.
"Hungry?" He asked them.
"Yeah." Hannah said.
"I want nuggets!" Brayden chimed in with.
"Is it alright if I take them out for some lunch?"
"I thought you had to get back to the station?"
"Antonio can hold down the fort until I get back."
"Can we go daddy? Please?" Brayden asked.
"Yeah sure, go have fun." He smiled as they gave him hugs.
Hannah reached for Hank's hand. He gripped it when he felt her touch.
"You're not a bad guy like everyone says. You're nice."
He laughed. "Thanks. So, what do you guys want for lunch?"
"McDonalds!" Brayden said. Hannah gave him a dirty look.
"We're in Chicago and you want McDonalds? How about deep dish? You can't find it better anywhere else!"
"Pizza is gross!" Brayden made a face.
"How dare you!" Hannah was not pleased with that answer.
When they arrived at the pizza place, Kelly and Leslie were standing at the counter.
"Hey what are you guys doing here?" Hank asked them.
"Just dropping by for the best deep dish in town." Kelly said, sitting down at a table and opening the box.
While the kids were ordering, Leslie looked at Hank with a solemn face.
"Any improvements with Kim?"
"Not a thing...I wish to hell there was. Pulpo really did a number on her."
"Why does everything always have to happen to her? She never deserved any of this."
"No, she didn't. She's one of my own. I remember the day I met her, she was the sweetest thing. She became like a daughter to me. Her father hasn't eaten in days, the poor man is a wreck."
"You'd feel that exact same way if that was your daughter, wouldn't you?"
"If that was Sienna...I don't know what I would do."
"What ever happened to Sienna, anyway?"
"She ran away when she was fourteen because she hated rules. It's been about ten years since I've seen her. I wish that kid would come back. I miss her like crazy."
"Is there anyway we could contact her?"
"Last I heard she was down in Texas somewhere. That was years ago, who knows where she is now."
"What if I help you find her?"
"You? Help me?"
"I'd like to help you find her."
"I wouldn't know where to start."
"Would she have changed her name?"
"She wouldn't want to deal with the legal system like that. She was a good kid though."
"I'm sure Chris would be willing to help you."
"Not at this point in time, maybe down the road."
"His daughter is in a vulnerable state, and weren't her and Kim friends?"
"Briefly, before Sienna ran away."
"Do you know how much it would mean to Kim if she could see her again? She was like half Kim's age when she was at camp. I'm sure that would mean a lot to her. Wouldn't you think so?"
Another week had passed. Leslie walked into Jin's little tech office that was in the room where the case files were.
"Hey Jin, anything on Sienna yet?"
"Looking, hoping to find something soon."
Leslie picked up a box of missing persons reports and siffed through the files, in hopes of finding something on Sienna.
"Do they categorize these files? By year of report or last name?"
"Year the report was filed." He said, not looking away from his computer.
"The year is 2018, and she went missing ten years ago. That would make her year of disappearance 2009." Leslie whispered to herself as she opened up the file.
"Voight, Sienna EvangelineBorn January 17th, 1995Chicago, Illinois
Status: Runaway"
"Got something!" Jin piped up.
"What?" Leslie ran over to the computer, nearly spilling the contents of the file.
"I received word that a woman matching her description was just seen at The Infatuation downtown."
"Well what are we waiting for?!"
"We can't go anywhere unless you have your car keys, can we?" He smiled as they swung from his fingers.
"Just give me the keys!" She ripped them from his hands and went downstairs.
"Hey Roman, let's go!" She yelled as her and Jin headed out the door.
"I do not listen to blondes." He muttered.
"You ARE listening to this one and this one says get your flat ass out there and do what she says." Trudy told him.
