Chapter 32

08:10, 9 April 2017

It's been five years since that day. In those five years, Leslie decided to turn in her papers for the paramedic job and enter the police academy. She has since then become a patrolman in the 21st district and is partnered with Sean. Being short one paramedic at the firehouse, a transfer from Boston filled the spot. Adam had his sister move in to help with the kids, since Kim was still in a coma. She was alive, but wasn't exactly all there. Ally was cooking lunch for Hannah, Brayden and Mikayla.

"Ally, do you want some help?" Mikayla offered, walking into the kitchen.

"If you want to get the plates and silverware out, that would be great." She smiled.

"Okay!"

"What's for lunch, sis?" Adam asked, looking into the kitchen.

"Sandwiches and chips. Maybe juice for the kids and soda for us?"

Adam brought a plate over to Hannah, but she pushed it away.

"What's wrong, baby girl?"

"It's been five years. What if mommy never wakes up?"

"She will, you heard the doctor."

"Daddy, she's been in a coma for five years now. I'm just sad."

He rubbed her back. "I know you are, I am too. Your brother is too."

"I haven't been able to call her mommy. I was a newborn when she was last awake, what if she misses me and Brayden's first day of school?"

"I don't know...I really don't know."

She walked into her room and laid down on her bed. On Hannah's nightstand was a picture of Kim. She put her hand on it and tears began falling.

"Please wake up mama. I miss you. Daddy misses you. Even stupid Brayden misses you."

He walked in the room seconds later. "Hi sissy."

"What do you want, stupid?"

"I wanted to say hi." He noticed her hugging the picture of Kim.

"Is that the picture of mommy?"

"Yeah." Hannah wiped some tears away.

"Don't cry sissy." He sat next to her and pulled her into a hug.

Adam and Ally stood in the doorway.

"What are we gonna do?" Ally looked at him.

"I don't know, Ally. It kills me to see them like this."

"Why don't you take them to go see her?"

"Do you really want them to see their mother like that? I don't think I can put them through that. It's best just to wait until she's awake."

"No one knows how long that will be. It's already been five years."

"I'm just trying to think of what's best for the kids. How are they gonna feel knowing mommy can't come home yet?"

"At least they'll get to see her. It's all they really want right now and I think you should take them."

"I guess I could...if you think that's a good idea."

"Mom and dad would think the same thing."

"Did you want to go?"

"Of course I would."

Adam looked up. "Hey kids, you wanna go see mommy today?"

"Can we?! Please?" Hannah looked at him.

When they arrived at the hospital, Christopher and Maureen were in the room.

"Grandma! Grandpa!" Hannah said as she hugged them both.

"Hi sweetie."

"Is mommy okay?"

"Yeah, mommy's okay."

They left so Adam and the kids could have time some with her. Brayden was occupied by SpongeBob on the TV, while Hannah took her shoes off and climbed in the bed with Kim.

"I love you mommy." She kissed her forehead and snuggled up to her.

Ally came in, with Leslie close behind her.

"Auntie Shay!" Brayden jumped into her arms.

"Hey buddy. Would you stop growing already? Geesh, you're gonna be taller than me soon."

"How you like being on patrol?" Ally asked her.

"It's alright, a lot different from what I'm used to. But you know, it's good."

"How's Sean treating you?"

"I still despise him with all of my being, but we get along now. I guess it's a start."

"Do you know how Gabby and Sylvie are handling the new medic?"

"Amber? Yeah, they say she's cool. She knows her stuff."

"That's good."

"Yeah."

Adam walked over and sat bedside. "You know Hannah." He began.

"I know what, daddy?"

"You look just your mommy did at that age."

She smiled.

When dinner time rolled around, Adam told them it was time to go.

"I'm not leaving mommy!" Hannah began crying and clung to her mother for dear life.

"We can come back tomorrow after breakfast, princess. Okay?"

"No! I'm not leaving! I don't want mommy to be alone!"

Adam looked over at Leslie. "Can you try and get her to come home? I don't want to take her back, but she needs to eat and get some sleep."

"I'll try. Meet you down at the car in like twenty minutes?"

"Yep." He headed down to the parking garage with Brayden holding his hand.

"Hannah, it's time to go."

"No, I want to stay here with mommy."

"The doctors will be here with mommy, she won't be alone."

"But they're not me, or Brayden, or daddy, or auntie Ally, or grandma or grandpa. I'm not leaving mommy alone. I won't."

"She'll be okay, sweetie."

"I just don't want to leave mommy alone. What if she wakes up and we're not here when she does?"

"We can't control when she wakes up, but I'm sure she would want you to eat and get some sleep."

"I can eat and sleep here." She pointed to the menu for the cafeteria and the couch.

"No you can't, sweetie. You have to come home."

"No!"

A doctor came in to make sure Kim's vitals were okay, then she noticed Hannah.

"Who does this little cutie belong to?"

"That's her daughter, Hannah." Leslie told the doctor.

"We're taking good care of your mommy."

"No you're not! If you were, she would be awake and she's not!" She ran out of the room crying and Leslie chased after her.

"You wait your little buns right there." She picked her up and drove her home.

"No one talk to me!" She ran into her room and slammed the door shut.

"I see you finally got her to come home." Adam said, setting the table.

"It wasn't easy. The poor thing is a wreck."
