"Nothing's wrong, I just have a lot on my mind." Allison shrugged, stepping onto the escalator with her friends. The girls desperately needed dresses for the dance later that night, so Macy's was their first destination.

"You could smile, at least. Ever heard of the saying, 'never frown. Someone could be falling in love with your smile.'? Smile, Allison. I'm buying you a dress." Lydia grinned, nudging her friend and moving up the steps to reach the top quicker. Lucy smiled, watching her friend's excitement show.

"Have to admit as far as apologies go, that's more than I expected."  Allison caved, knowing it was Lydia's way of making up for the situation with Scott. "But not as much as I'm going to ask."

"What? What's that supposed to mean?" Lydia questioned, spinning around.

"It means you're going to cancel on whatever dumb jock you're going with and go with somebody else," Allison smirked, arriving at the floor they needed. Lucy walked behind them, confused as to what Allison meant. Nudging Lydia, Allison pointed to where Stiles was standing at the aftershave counter. "Him."

Lydia looked back at Allison and sighed. "Fine."

Lucy felt a twinge in her heart. She had hoped to have a date for the dance, possibly even Stiles. He was funny and kind, and they had been having a lot of moments filled with laughter since the night of the full moon. But she knew he liked Lydia. Whatever Allison had planned, she was sure Stiles would love it.

So, as Lydia marched up to Stiles, Lucy dove towards a dress rack. She was eager to get her mind off everything, but she was also excited to find her dress. Looking through the rack, a soft pink one stood out. She pulled it off the rack, the dress having a corset top with thick straps. From the bottom of the corset, the dress flowed outwards with soft sparkles decorating it.

"Is that the one?" Allison asked, coming up from behind Lucy.

"I think so." She looked at the silver dress in her friend's hands. "That'll look gorgeous on you, Alli."

"Thanks." Her friend smiled brightly, "Some guy over there recommended it."

Lucy turned immediately, freezing when she saw Peter Hale standing just a dozen feet away from them. The man grinned and waved at Lucy, recognizing her from the other night.

"Maybe we should go..." Lucy started, never taking her eyes off Peter.

"Go... like try them on?" Allison clarified.

"Yes! Yes. Let's go try them on." Lucy pulled Allison towards the changing rooms, keeping her eyes away from Stiles and Lydia as they passed them.

Lucy smiled sadly as she added the finishing touches to her makeup. Her beautifully curled hair rested on her shoulders and her dress looked even better on her. But she couldn't bring herself to smile.

"So..." Melissa began from the doorway. "Who's the lucky guy?"

"No one. I'm going by myself." Lucy nodded, setting her makeup brush down.

"Alone? You don't have a date?" Her mom walked into the room, pulling Lucy over to her bed. They sat down, Lucy fiddling with her fingers.

"No, no one asked me. But my friends and Scott will all be there, so I guess I won't be completely alone."

"It's completely normal to go alone. I'm sure other people will be there, maybe some cute guy will ask you to dance?"

Lucy giggled. "I doubt it. But maybe."

"Yeah," Melissa smiled, brushing a curl out of Lucy's face. "Maybe."

"I should get going," Lucy said after a moment of silence.

"Right, yeah." They both stood up and embraced each other. "Just remember to have fun, okay? Even if it's just with your friends."

"I will, Mom. Thank you. For everything."

Melissa smiled at her adoptive daughter. "Of course, honey. Now go have fun!"

Music played through the speakers of the gym hall as Lucy walked in. A lot of people were already up and dancing, so Lucy had to walk around the crowd to find the refreshments table. She poured herself a cup of water, turning around to look for a table.

There were a lot of empty ones, seeing how nearly everyone was dancing. Lucy even spotted her brother with Allison and smiled softly, seeing how happy they were.

Going back to the tables, Lucy's smile fell when she saw Stiles sitting by himself. He stared sadly at his phone, sitting at an empty table surrounded by numerous other tables. Taking a leap of faith, she decided to walk towards him.

"Hi." She smiled as she reached the table. "Is this seat taken?" She gestured to the very empty seat next to Stiles, who looked surprised that anyone was talking to him.

"Uh, no. It's not. Take a seat." He smiled awkwardly, setting his phone down.

"How's the dance been so far? You came with Lydia, right?"

At the sound of her name, Stiles' awkward smile fell. "It's been boring, mostly." He scratched the side of his head. "Lydia's been with Jackson all night and I've been here."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Lucy glanced down at her cup, her heart beating fast.

"Did you just get here?" Stiles asked, fiddling with the end of his tie.

"Yeah, uh, I lost track of time when I was getting ready, and I didn't have a date, so I didn't have to be here on time."

Stiles nodded. "Must've been nice to just take your time. You look nice, by the way." His voice got softer as his sentence ended.

"Oh." Lucy blushed. "Thanks. You don't look too bad yourself."

Stiles smiled at her, watching the brunette take a drink. They both watched everyone dance in a comfortable silence until the songs started to slow down. He took a deep breath, looking at the girl who actually cared enough to come over and talk to him.

"Do you wanna dance?"

Lucy looked up at him. "I don't know how to, sorry." She said softly, fiddling with the end of her dress nervously.

Stiles suddenly stood up, towering over her. "Let me rephrase that. We're both here, alone and lonely. So, Lucy, get off your cute little ass and dance with me." He reached for her hand, the look on his face never faltering, even when she gawked at him. "Let's go. It's a high school dance that we're gonna think about when we're sixty. I don't plan on telling my grandkids that I cried alone in a corner all night, do you?"

At a loss for words, Lucy let him take her hand. "Okay." She whispered as he pulled her onto the dance floor. Both of his hands landed on her waist as hers went around her neck. They both swayed, staring at each other for a moment.

"See?" Stiles whispered. "It's not that difficult."

Lucy nodded in agreement, trying to tear her eyes away from his brown ones. But she couldn't. When she stared at him, her heart raced. It was like that night at the school, but in a less 'death is near' way. She was still very much scared; she had no idea what she was feeling.

Not to mention, Stiles had a huge crush on one of her best friends. Said friend had only ignored him and was still in love with another guy, but still. Stiles had feelings for Lydia. Lydia had feelings for Jackson. And Lucy... well she was beginning to have feelings for Stiles.
