Lucy and Lydia followed Allison through the woods. For the most part, it was quiet, but Lucy was still on edge. After what happened when Scott and Stiles went into the woods, she felt as though she had a right to be nervous. One major difference, she reminded herself, was that she was in the woods in the middle of the day and Allison had some sort of weapon. Scott and Stiles went out in the middle of the night.

But every time a twig snapped or a bird flew by overhead, Lucy felt chills. Rays of sunlight shone down on them from between the leaves and the autumn air gave Lucy a good excuse for the constant chills she had.

"Allison, when you said you needed to stop for an errand before we went shopping, a five-mile hike in the woods was not what I was expecting." Lydia snapped, walking a few steps behind the Argent girl.

"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something. Jackson asked me to the winter formal."

"Did he?" Lydia asked, frowning. Lucy glanced between the girls, wondering what would possess Allison to even consider it. This was her friend's ex-boyfriend, a recent ex to top it off.

"Just as friends. But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first." Allison smiled, looking back at her friends. Lydia swallowed thickly, thinking it over.

"Sure. As long as it's just friends."

"Really, Lyds? It's just... this is Jackson." Allison gave her friend a skeptical look.

"I don't think that's a good idea, Allison. I mean they just broke up." Lucy added, wrapping her arms around herself.

"Well, yeah, I mean- it's not like I would take him to the coach's office during Lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything," Allison said slowly, looking back at Lydia.

"Good point," Lucy mumbled, glancing at her strawberry-blonde friend.

"You're right, Allison. I'm sorry, it was a mistake. I shouldn't have done it, and I'll make it up to you."

Allison simply nodded before she turned around and continued walking. Stopping in a clearing, she placed down her bag and readied her bow.

"What does that do?" Lydia asked curiously.

"We're about to find out," Allison smirked, drawing back the bow and releasing the arrow. Lucy gulped, nervous to see what the hunter's daughter had brought with them. Twirling through the air, the arrowhead hit the trunk of a tree, and a burst of light emitted from the impact.

"What was that?" Lucy asked, staring at the arrowhead. She worried that it might have some sort of effect on her brother, perhaps even blinding him with the bright light.

"I don't know," Allison answered truthfully, her eyes still on the arrowhead.

Stiles and Lucy found themselves at his house for a group project. Sophomore year seemed to be full of them. Thankfully, the project was easy. All they had to do was create a presentation about the novel they had just read. Well, the novel Lucy had just read.

"Sorry," Stiles apologized, handing a glass of water to the brunette. "With all the supernatural stuff going on, school has kind of been the last thing on my mind." He lowered his voice when he mentioned Scott's predicament, mostly for the fact that his father was in the other room, but also because the girl had been right earlier. He had gotten lucky no one had heard his conversations at school.

"It's all good." Lucy smiled gratefully as she took a sip. "The Hunger Games is actually one of my favorite series."

Stiles stood with his mouth open, looking quite appalled. "There's more than one?"

Lucy laughed. "We only had to read the first one. But yes, it's a part of a series."

"Huh. And you've read them all?" He asked, getting a glass of water for himself.

"Yep. Multiple times. It's my comfort series."

"Reading for fun? Now that-" he paused, "is weird."

Lucy scoffed. "Reading is not weird! It's entertaining, like your video games."

"Okay." Stiles put a hand up. "Do not compare books to video games."

"My bad. But I'm right." Lucy smiled, opening her computer. Stiles chuckled to himself, but when he thought of a comeback, something else came to mind.

"Hey, you're Lydia's friend, right?"

Lucy gave him a blank stare for a second. She was only with Lydia every day at school. "Mm depends on who's asking. I'm also Scott's sister; in case you didn't know."

Stiles rolled his eyes. "Haha. Very funny."

"I thought it was." Lucy shrugged, pulling up a blank presentation. Stiles set his glass down on the kitchen table, leaning close to his friend's sister.

"Okay, but seriously. Does she have a crush on anyone?"

Lucy smacked his arm. "Seriously? Jackson just broke up with her!"

Stiles held his arm, tilting his head. "I heard that he dumped her."

"Oh my God, Stiles. You have no empathy." Lucy shook her head. She started typing on the cover slide, getting their names and the book title on it.

"So... is that a no?"

Lucy smacked his arm again.

"Okay, okay! I'm done!" He stepped away from the table, holding his hands up in defense. The playful atmosphere died down when he saw what his father was working on.

"What?" Lucy asked, watching Stiles stare off into the room.

"He's working on the murder cases." He whispered.

"So?"

Stiles scoffed. "So, he could have information we need!"

Lucy sighed, cracking her fingers. "Okay. Go, do whatever it is that you do. I'll work on the project."

"Yes! Thank you! Oh, I could give you a hug right now."

"Please don't." Lucy held her hands out, stopping the boy from getting any closer. "I was going to be doing it all anyways."

"Great point. I see why you're an A+ average student now."

Lucy playfully rolled her eyes. "Just go." Giving her a thumbs up, the boy practically ran into the other room. She went through the requirements, getting the titles of all the slides added. The simple action made her feel more organized and therefore, also at ease.

Stiles ran back into the kitchen, grabbing an empty glass and a whiskey bottle. He winked at Lucy as he ran back into the other room.

She could hear the father and son speaking from the other room, but she couldn't make out what they were saying. She was supposed to stay out of the supernatural stuff anyways. After another sip of water, Lucy got back on track. It didn't take long to answer all the assigned questions and add enough pictures to make their teacher happy.

With their project now done, it would be a good time to head home. Lucy stood up and walked over to the sink. She grabbed the dishcloth and the dish soap and washed it thoroughly. She could still hear the murmurs from the other room as she dried the glass and put it away.

"Or something's scaring them out," Stiles spoke as Lucy walked closer to the doorway. She paused when she heard the sheriff speak up.

"You know, I miss talking to you. It's like we never have time-"

"-Dad, you know, I have to make a phone call- I'm sorry. I'll be right back." Stiles rushed out, stopping when he saw the girl. "Is everything okay?"

"Uh, yeah. I finished the project. I was just coming to let you know that I was leaving."

"I do. I miss it-" Mr. Stilinski continued. "-and I miss your mom."

"What'd you say?" Stiles' voice broke as he spoke, a tear running down his face as he looked at his dad. Lucy stepped back, sucking in a breath. Stiles held up a hand. "Don't leave yet, Lucy. Just give me a minute." He spoke softly, softer than she had ever heard before. She nodded, walking back to her computer.

She sat back down, minutes going by before Stiles came back out. He wiped a tear, sitting down next to her.

"I- I'm sorry. I should go." Lucy said quietly, feeling as though she had gotten in the way of a serious moment.

"No, no. Scott texted me. Do you remember what we told you, about Peter?"

Lucy nodded. "Derek's uncle. The alpha. The one who attacked you, are you okay by the way? Did he hurt you, or..."

Stiles' eyes widened. "No, no he didn't bite me. I'm fine. But Peter is impersonating some doctor and he's taking your mother out on a date right now."

"What?" Lucy whispered, "Where are they?"

"Still driving. Scott can't interfere; Peter is blackmailing him. I'm going to go and find them. Do you want to come with me?"

"Yes." Lucy didn't need to think about her answer. "Yes."

Stiles nodded. "Okay, let me get my keys."

After the pair left the Stilinski house, they raced down the streets in search of Melissa. As they drove around, Stiles explained everything that had happened with Derek and Peter the night of the big game.

"So, that's why I wasn't there. I bet everyone was wondering where I was, since I was supposed to be on first line."

"I wouldn't know. That was the day Jackson and Lydia broke up; I took her and Allison out for ice cream."

"Oh, that's right. I didn't mean to come off so inconsiderate earlier."

Lucy smiled sadly. "You're good. I know you didn't mean it like that."

"Okay." Stiles smiled. "Good. Because I'm a very good person. You should tell Lydia that."

Lucy laughed. "Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna lie to her."

"Lie? It's not a lie!" Stiles laughed. Lucy smiled, glad to see him so happy after the serious moment she and Scott interrupted.

She looked up at the street and gasped. "There!" She hit Stiles' arm. "They're right there!" Stiles turned the wheel, letting his jeep slam into the back of a black car. They unbuckled and jumped out, just as Melissa did the same.

"Oh, are you kidding me? Stiles!" Melissa shouted. The back of the black car was smoking and the right headlight on the jeep flickered on and off.

"Miss McCall?" Stiles asked, feigning surprise.

"Yes!"

"Wow, this is- this is just crazy. What a coincidence, huh?" Stiles rambled, fumbling for an excuse.

"Mom, we are so sorry. Stiles was driving me home and we were joking around and laughing, and we didn't see you." Lucy apologized, feeling small under her mom's glare.

"What were you even doing with Stiles? And where is your car?" Melissa questioned, her arms flying in the air.

"We had that English project, remember? And when I went to leave, my car started making weird noises." She turned to Stiles. "He took a look at it and said everything was fine, but it's dark out and Scott said you weren't home so we thought it would be safer if I didn't drive."

Melissa sighed. "When are you getting your car back?"

"Tomorrow morning!" Lucy lied, although it might end up being true. She did need her car back.

"Have Lydia or Allison take you. I'll be at work and clearly this one can't drive." She gestured to Stiles.

"Hey, I mean, I don't know what happened. You guys just came out of nowhere." Stiles said, only making the excuse less believable.

"Came out of nowhere? We were parked on the side of the road, Stiles." She scolded, folding her arms over her chest.

"How crazy is that? I mean, we should probably call the cops, you know, do like an accident report thing." Stiles added, rocking on the balls of his feet. Lucy nodded in agreement.

"I don't think that's necessary," Peter assured them, walking up behind Melissa as he smiled at the teens. A shiver ran down Lucy's spine and she instinctively took a step towards Stiles.

"Are you sure? I think I'm feeling a little whiplash. What about you?" Stiles asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Whiplash? You hit us?" Melissa shouted.

"I don't know, there's something definitely wrong with my neck."

Lucy watched intently as Peter moved away, seemingly talking to no one. She stepped closer to Stiles again, the strange alpha making her incredibly nervous. Noticing her action, Stiles placed a hand on her back.

"How's your neck feel?"

"Oh, uh, fine for the most part. I do think we should file an accident report though. Just in case."

Melissa sighed, running her fingers through her hair. She had dressed up, Lucy noticed.

"I'm sorry we ruined your date." She whispered, her eyes darting from Peter's retreating figure to her mom.

Her mother sighed again. "No, it's fine. I'm not sure it would've worked out anyway."

Lucy stepped forward, leaving Stiles' comforting touch to embrace her mom. She watched from the side as Peter walked around, clearly looking for something.

The strange man gave her chills. She couldn't help but think, what would've happened if she hadn't found her mom?
