Stiles ran to her, tightly covering Lucy's mouth as he pulled her close to him. He moved her away from her brother's room, taking the werewolf out of her sight. He could feel her panicked breathing as he leaned against the wall with her.
"It's okay." He whispered. "I'll explain everything, I promise. But you're okay. This isn't like what happened the other night."
Lucy tried to say something, but with his hand over her mouth, she couldn't. Slowly, Stiles removed his hand. He kept a strong hold on her waist, making sure she didn't run back to Scott, who was groaning in pain.
"What's wrong with him? What did you do to my brother? And what do you mean, Derek was trying to kill us that night!" Lucy rambled, pushing out of Stiles' hold to look at him.
"We lied." Stiles started, "Derek is innocent."
Scott screamed, calling for Stiles and Lucy. His sister jumped, taking a step back towards her room as a tear ran down her cheek.
"Let's go to your room. I'll explain everything."
Lucy nodded, walking back to her bedroom with Stiles' hand on her back. After her brother's friend closed the door, Lucy raised an eyebrow.
"Stiles, be honest with me. What is going on?" She asked, her voice shaking as her lips trembled.
He sighed. "Do you remember that night we went out in the woods, Scott and I?"
"The night before the first day of school." Lucy nodded. "I told you guys not to go."
"And we should've listened to you. But we didn't. And something was in the woods that night, something big."
"Like what?"
"It was a werewolf. An alpha. That's what's been killing people. It was never a mountain lion. My point is, that's what bit Scott that night. It made him a werewolf, a beta."
"Stiles." Lucy interrupted, scoffing. "This is insane. Werewolves do not exist. Beacon Hills doesn't even have regular wolves!"
"Then go back in there and look at Scott!" Stiles shouted, pointing towards her door. "Watch as he fights against the handcuffs to try and attack you. It's a full moon. He is not himself."
Seeing how serious Stiles was, Lucy didn't say anything. She wanted to laugh at him and call him crazy, but she saw her brother. Saw the look in his eyes. The claws. The fangs.
"Derek is a werewolf too. He's been helping Scott learn how to be a werewolf. They've been trying to find the alpha, the thing from the school and from the movie store. But now there are hunters, werewolf hunters, here and they want to kill Derek and his beta. But they don't know it's Scott, so you can't say anything."
"Stiles, this all sounds crazy. Who would even believe me?"
"The Argents."
Lucy's blood ran cold. Allison. "No. She wouldn't. She really likes him, Stiles."
"Allison doesn't know about her family. Yet."
Oh God. How was she supposed to tell Allison about this? Lucy already knew her answer, she couldn't. But that was her best friend. She promised she would figure out everything for the two of them.
Seeing the gears turning in Lucy's head, Stiles stepped forward. "You can't say anything. I'm serious."
"I know. I won't."
Stiles relaxed. "Okay. Okay, good."
Scott howled again, but it sounded farther away this time.
"How strong are werewolves?" Lucy asked, coming to the same conclusion that Stiles had.
"Stronger than the handcuffs."
They both ran out and down the hall. Sure enough, when they got to Scott's room, he was gone. Lucy stepped in, looking at the blood on the floor. She wrapped her arms around herself. Stiles looked out the window, where Scott had jumped out of.
"What do we do now?" Lucy asked quietly, looking at the broken handcuffs.
"You stay here. I'll find him."
"Wait, stay here? That's my brother!"
"Lucy, you just found out. You haven't even had time to wrap your mind around everything. Just stay here and cover for us if your mom comes home."
Lucy sighed. "Fine."
Relieved that she wasn't putting up a fight, Stiles grabbed what he needed and left. Lucy knew he was right. This still sounded insane. But she had seen proof, multiple times. In the store, the school, and now her own home.
All she could do was clean up her brother's room and wrap her mind around everything.
Lucy hadn't slept at all that night. She had researched werewolves until Scott had come home. He had sat down in her room, keeping plenty of distance between them, and apologized for everything. The lies, scaring her, and more. Of course, Lucy knew why he had kept everything from her. And she respected her brother's decision to keep her away from everything. She did make him promise to keep her in the loop, so there would be no more lies between them.
To keep Allison at bay, Lucy had lied to her. It hurt her to do so, but it was Scott's decision whether or not to tell her. So, Lucy had told Allison that the boys had snuck out through Scott's window and went out to the woods. Just to walk and goof off. Allison believed that Lucy's hypothesis was that the boys had been doing it since the night before school started. They had gone too far some nights, which was how they had run into Derek, who's family home was in the woods. The 'murderer' had pretended to be friends with the boys, intending to murder them that night at the school. And Derek had been the one who locked them in the room, pretending to be Scott.
Lucy felt sick lying to Allison, even more so when Allison believed every word she said. On the plus side, Allison seemed more inclined to talk to Scott again at some point.
"This is gonna be impossible, you know." Scott moaned, opening the doors to the school. After speaking with Allison in the parking lot, Lucy went to meet up with Stiles and Scott. She knew she wouldn't be able to 'hang out' with them often, if she did she'd be on Allison's radar too.
"Why don't you just ask her if you can borrow it?" Stiles shrugged, turning to his locker. "You just say, 'Hey, Allison, can I borrow your necklace to see if there's anything on it or in it that can lead me to an Alpha werewolf that I need to kill in order to get back together with you?' See, easy!"
"Do you always speak so loud when you talk about it? Maybe try whispering so the whole school doesn't find out." Lucy rolled her eyes.
Stiles smirked. "I've always spoken this loud, and you never found out until last night."
Blushing, Lucy walked away, leaving the boys to find a plan on their own. She shook her head, laughing slightly as she heard Stiles shout an apology down the hall.
Her first two classes were a breeze. Having an answer to nearly all her problems definitely helped with the buildup of stress she had. That was until she got a text from the Stilinski boy.
"How did he find out?" She whispered to Scott by his locker, pretending to read a text out loud to him. She knew Allison was watching from down the hall, so she wanted her next lie, 'I was reading a text from our mom. She picked up another late shift,' to seem believable.
"I don't know, but he implied that he knew pretty freaking clearly." Scott spat, worry evident in his eyes.
"Okay, maybe it's not as bad as it seems. I mean, he doesn't have any proof, right?" Stiles added as he walked up to the pair.
"Who would even believe him? I barely believed Stiles."
Scott reminded her about Allison's father. Stiles nodded, "Okay it's bad. Does he know about her father?"
"I don't know."
Getting nervous, Lucy decided now would be a good time to leave. "I should go. Just text me later."
Before she could walk away, Scott grabbed her wrist.
"Are you okay?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
Lucy nodded. "Yeah. Just remember what I told you, about Allison?" She had told her brother about the lies she would have to tell in order to keep her friendship intact.
Scott smiled sadly. "Yeah. Right. How could I forget? I'll, um, I'll text you later."
"Okay." Lucy turned to walk away, nearly crashing into a student. She mumbled an apology, maneuvering around a group of students before she reached Allison and Lydia.
"Hey guys." She smiled, holding her phone in a separate hand from her books.
"Hey, Luce." Lydia turned from her open locker to smile.
"What was that about?" Allison mumbled, her eyes watching Scott. Lucy turned to glance at him over her shoulder before directing her attention back to her friend.
"Our mom texted me. She's got another late night. She wanted to know about my plans for the game tonight, which to be honest I completely forgot about."
"Oh okay. Are you still coming?" Allison asked.
"Of course. My mom will be there too, but she has to leave right after to head to the hospital so I'm driving separately. I could pick you guys up?" She offered.
"Ugh, night shift?" Allison groaned, feeling sympathy for Miss McCall.
"Yeah, but the bills won't pay themselves."
"They don't?" Lydia asked, a teasing smile on her face as she closed her locker.
Lucy shook her head with a grin as the girls linked arms, heading to their next class. "I wish."
Leaving the last class of the day, Lydia stopped in the middle of the hallway before her phone slipped out of her hands. Lucy bent down to pick it up, her eyes widening when she saw the message from Jackson.
"He did not." Lucy read the breakup text over again. "Maybe it's just a joke? Are you okay?"
Lydia said nothing, taking her phone back from Lucy and marched down the halls in search of the boy. Lucy followed her, worried for her friend.
"Jackson!" Lydia yelled, spotting her now ex-boyfriend at his locker. "This little text, not funny!" She spat, waving her phone in his face."
"No, I wasn't trying to be funny. I would have put a 'ha ha' at the end of it." Jackson shrugged carelessly.
" 'Lydia, please give back my spare house key at your earliest convenience - as we are no longer dating', are you serious?" Lydia asked, staring at Jackson.
"You didn't lose it, did you?"
"Why are you being so inconsiderate?" Lucy snapped, protectively standing in front of Lydia as a crowd began to form around them.
"Well, Lydia and Lucy, in preparation for some big changes, I've decided to drop some of the dead weight in my life. And you're just about the deadest." Jackson insulted.
Without thinking, Lucy slapped him across the face. Lydia pulled Lucy bag, now standing in front of her ex.
"Are you breaking up with me?" She whispered, holding back tears.
"Dumping, actually. I'm dumping you." Jackson corrected, turning over his shoulder and walking away from the heartbroken girl.
"Dumped by the co-captain of the Lacrosse team. I wonder how many minutes it'll take me to get over that. Wait, seconds, actually. Seconds!" She yelled for everyone to hear.
"Hey." Lucy whispered, rubbing Lydia's back comfortingly. "Let's skip the game tonight. We can go out for something to eat. Allison, too."
"No, no she's mad at me for kissing Scott. God, I can't believe I did that. I can't believe this is happening."
"You apologized and she forgave you. Now, come on, let's get you home."
