43. Avengers: Infinity War (3)

17:30, 22 November 2024

I looked at Dad with worry etched on my face, and he turned to look at T'Challa, who returned his gaze. Vision then started to sit up and slide off the exam table,

"It's too late. We need to destroy the stone now."

"Vision, get your ass back on the table," Aunt Nat ordered sternly, and T'Challa reassured him,

"We will hold them off." He headed for the door along with Okoye and the guards. Dad turned to Wanda and gave her instructions,

"Wanda, as soon as the stone's out of his head... you blow it to hell."

"I will," Wanda nodded, and T'Challa continued to dish out orders,

"Evacuate the city. Engage all defence procedures." He stopped, turned to Dad and I, and then pointed at Dad. "And get this man a shield."

Dad nodded, and I tightened my ponytail before walking over to Shuri and squeezing her shoulder for encouragement before following everyone out the door. We all boarded the carriers to get to the edge of Wakanda, where the barrier was located. I made sure to stay close to Dad, Aunt Nat, and Uncle Bucky while Uncle Rhodey and Uncle Sam flew overhead, and Uncle Bruce used the Hulkbuster armour since the Hulk wouldn't come out.

"How we looking, Bruce?" Aunt Nat questioned through coms. I looked back, and Uncle Bruce was leaping and jogging along to keep up with the carriers filled with warriors.

"Yeah, I think I'm getting the hang of it," Uncle Bruce answered, "Wow! It's like being the Hulk without actually-" Uncle Bruce suddenly tripped forward, and I cringed. "I'm okay. I'm okay."

I shook my head and let out a nervous breath of air as I turned to face the front of the carrier again.

"I got two heat signatures breaking through the tree line," Uncle Rhodey warned us right before we reached the city's shield. Everyone exited the carriers smoothly and lined up. I stood between Dad and Uncle Bucky with Aunt Nat behind me. The Jabari Warriors chanted,

"MIE EFFA! YA HU! MIE EFFA! YA HU! MIE EFFA! YA HU! MIE EFFA! YA HU! MIE EFFA! YA HU!"

I kept my eye on the two aliens on the other side of the shield. When everyone was ready, T'Challa, Dad, Aunt Nat, and I walked to the edge of the barrier. We stood face-to-face with the aliens, and the only thing between us was the barrier.

"Where's your other friend?" Aunt Nat tested sassily, and the female alien from the last fight replied coldly,

"You will pay for his life with yours. Thanos will have that stone."

"That's not going to happen," I assured with a stern expression, confidence and adrenaline pumping through my veins.

"You are in Wakanda now," T'Challa added, "Thanos will have nothing but dust and blood."

"We... have blood to spare," the female challenged, then brandished her sword with a snarl. The ships behind her started to raise their outer hulls to allow whatever was inside to disembark. The four of us walked back to our massed forces, and Uncle Bucky asked from my left,

"Did they surrender?"

"Not exactly," Dad answered, then T'Challa led the Wakandans with a war cry as the enemies made their way to the barrier,

"Yibambe!"

The female alien dropped her sword to signal her army to attack. There were so many of them, and my mouth slightly fell open. The aliens were terrifying creatures with four arms and snarling mouths.

"What the hell," Uncle Bucky stated in shock, and Aunt Nat concluded,

"Looks like we pissed her off."

I let out a humourless, breathy laugh as we watched the enemies advance. They squeezed limbs and bodies partly through the barrier, only to be cut and killed. I spoke up in pure shock,

"They're killing themselves."

A few of the aliens managed to get through without dying, and the Border Tribe took a knee and raised their shields. The Kingsguard behind the Border Tribe raised their sonic spears over their comrades' shoulders before firing on T'Challa's command. Uncle Bucky used his gun to shoot the aliens down as well, and Uncle Bruce used the Hulkbuster's hand repulsors. Uncle Sam used Redwing to fire at the aliens while he and Uncle Rhodey shot from above.

"You see the teeth on those things?" Uncle Sam asked, and Uncle Rhodey warned him without answering the question,

"Alright, back up, Sam. You're going to get your wings singed." Uncle Rhodey then released several mines along the barrier, causing explosions to go off. Numerous aliens then started to run along the barrier to try and circle the city. They wanted Vision's stone.

"Cap, if these things circle the perimeter and get in behind us..." Uncle Bruce started, "There's nothing between them and Vision.

"Then we better keep 'em in front of us," Dad stated sternly.

"How do we do that?" Okoye questioned, and I looked to T'Challa as he spoke,

"We open the barrier." T'Challa then spoke into his com, "On my signal, open North-West Section Seventeen." After a moment, T'Challa repeated into his com, "On my signal."

"This will be the end of Wakanda," M'Baku stated grimly.

"Then it will be the noblest ending in history," Okoye assured. Dad readied his left Vibranium handguard before T'Challa shouted a command in a language I didn't understand. The Border Tribesmen disengaged their shields and stood. T'Challa walked in front of all of us, and I took a deep breath before he shouted,

"WAKANDA FOREVER!"

Everyone began charging at the aliens coming our way. The barrier opened up in one section on T'Challa's command, and the enemies immediately poured in. Dad, T'Challa, and I were able to run ahead with our enhanced strength and attacked the enemy before everyone else joined us. I used my force fields in a similar way to Dad's handguards and attacked an infinite number of aliens. Additionally, I was able to use force fields to trap groups of creatures so Uncle Sam or Uncle Rhodey could drop mines on them. My force fields were also helpful in protecting anyone caught unawares. I was near Uncle Bucky, fighting off more aliens, when he called my name from behind me,

"Katie! Bunker!"

Knowing what my uncle wanted me to do, I did a back walkover, and he pulled me up to sit on his shoulders. I put up a shield around us while Uncle Bucky continued to shoot. When more aliens made their way over to us, Uncle Bucky tossed the gun up into my hands and helped me stand on his shoulders, so I had a better vantage point to shoot from. Another row of them came at us, and I dropped the gun into Uncle Bucky's hands before doing a front flip onto the ground and creating several force field spikes. I turned to run over and help Dad and high-fived my uncle as I passed him. As I was taking out two aliens, one came up behind me, but Dad got to it before it could hurt me.

"How much longer, Shuri?" T'Challa asked his sister over the coms, and she replied,

"We've barely begun, brother."

"You might want to pick up the pace."
