To say he was frantic was an understatement.
Caroline was in the hospital and according to Elena Jeremy tried to kill himself and become a vampire. But since Stefan stayed with Jeremy Malik decided to leave him be to relax and get rest, he was more worried about Caroline.
Once they arrived to the hospital they rushed through the corridors until the noticed Matt sitting alone outside of Caroline's room. They rushed to him; Bonnie immediately began to ask questions.
"How is Caroline?"
"She's not good, Bon."
"What happened?" asked Malik very concerned.
"We were driving, and Tyler heard this noise and he gotโ"
"A noise?" interrupted Bonnie began to realise what happened but as he looked at Malik she noticed how for a second Mal's eyes widened realising what happened.
Stefan heard the noise... Tyler was affected by the device they didn't deactivate. And because of that Caroline was in the hospital near death.
"He got this migraine or something and he lost control of the car and... I thought that Caroline was fine and then... and then she wasn't so..."
Mal got up and Bonnie went with him as well, they were pacing around nervously and worried. As they stood there Elena arrived and hurried to them immediately.
"How's Caroline?"
"She's weak. They don't know if she's going to make it."
"What?"
Bonnie embraced Elena while Malik was still standing there extremely worried and noticed Damon peer over at them.
"Is there something that you can do? Like a spell or something?" said Elena looking at Malik but before he could have answered Damon stepped in and spoke in a condescending tone.
"They don't know how, do you?"
"This is internal bleeding jackass" snapped back Malik with the same tone then looked at Elena. "Healing surface wounds is different, doing a spell like this requires precision and incredible delicacy. I have the magic but we do not have the level of control to manage it."
"No, you don't because it took Emily years to learn a spell like that."
"Well, I can take down a vampire, that spell was easy to learn."
"I can give Caroline some blood" offered Damon turning away from the witches towards Elena but the brunette instantly refused.
"No, no way."
"No, just enough to heal her. She will be safe in the hospital, and it will be out of her system in a day, she will be better Elena." Explained the vampire but Elena still wasn't convinced.
"It's too risky, I can't agree to that."
"Do it" stated Malik in a determined voice looking at Damon before he looked at Elena and seeing her expression explained. "This is Caroline. We can't let her die. Do it."
"If I do this, you two and me, call a truce?"
"No. But you'll do it anyway. For Elena" answered Bonnie with a smug expression and grabbing his brother's arm the two of them walked away.
Once they left the hospital Malik was nervous and worried, he was playing with his bracelet nervously. As they got to the car Bonnie tried to start it but it acted up, lights were flashing on the dashboard, making Bonnie look at her brother and noticed how his right eye had the light flicker in it, turning to red then back to normal.
The witch put her hand on his and began gently caressing his hand, allowing her brother to slowly calm down. Once he calmed down he leaned back and looking up spoke gently.
"Thank you... at least with you and the bracelet my magic won't lash out."
"I promised you I will be there for you Mal. Always."
They were holding hands and Malik smiled, he slowly relaxed as the calming sensation went through his body, calming his magic as well.
He was hoping that Caroline would get better, he did not want to lose another person close to him.
The next morning both of them were rushing to get ready and go back to the hospital. If Damon did what he was supposed to, Caroline should be turning for the better.
Once they arrived they found Matt there and both of them began to question him immediately.
"You've been here all night?"
"Yeah, with the sheriff."
"No one else?" enquired Malik hoping for some good news.
"Stefan's brother Damon stopped by late last night."
"How is Caroline today?" asked Bonnie carefully, almost scared to hear the answer.
"See for yourself" smiled Matt making both of them relax and feel better.
They went in Caroline's room who was awake and looked completely healthy, like she wasn't about to die just hours before that.
"Jersey Shore's on" announced the blonde with an excited tone.
Bonnie went up to her and embraced her best friend, but Caroline flinched a little and quickly protested.
"Careful, still a little sore."
"Sorry"
"It's okay but they say I'm healing really quick."
"My turn" spoke up Matt and leaning on kissed Caroline, Malik just scrunched up his nose and let out a little groan but as the realisation hit in, the happiness that rushed through him made him and Bonnie cry which did not go unnoticed by the blonde.
"Oh, isn't he cute? Mal? Why are you crying?"
"I'm just happy you're okay" answered the boy wiping away his tears but Matt put his arm around him and Bonnie hugged him as well making Caroline giggle and speak up.
"Oh, I love you guys!"
"We love you" responded Bonnie and they all embraced each other, Malik felt happy and grateful for the miracle of the vampire blood. He did not like them but if it wasn't for that annoying selfish egotistic โ hot and psychotic- Damon Salvatore, Caroline would have been dead... he was beginning to think there was no need to overthink things.
He just enjoyed the moment, even if he could sense that things were about to change. They could not return to how things were, but Malik hoped that perhaps life would not be that drastic.
Boy was he wrong to think that.
After making sure that Caroline was getting better the two of them had to get to Lockwood Manor to pay their respects for the passing of the Mayor.
Mal wasn't a fan of him, he thought he was an asshole and a bully but especially because of his own dad... he had to show face. Plus, he felt bad for Tyler, it was his father after all.
As they got in there, they found Damon and Bonnie was trying to get answers out of him.
"Did you know the Gilbert device affected Tyler Lockwood?"
"Well, I know it took the mayor down."
"Don't you want to know why?"
"Yes Bonnie, I would love to know why a non-vampire was tortured by the vampire torture device that you let John Gilbert use against us. Speaking of your guilt, how's Caroline?"
Malik just rolled his eyes he already have a theory of why it happened, but he did not want to let anyone know about Erik.
"She's much better."
"You're welcome" came Damon's cocky answer but before Mal could have said anything Bonnie immediately matched his energy and responded.
"No, you're welcome."
"Why am I welcome?"
"You live to see another day."
"No good deal goes unpunished with you, does it?"
"Doesn't undo the bad. I know what you are Damon, you might have Elena and the sheriff and everybody else fooled but not me. One wrong move and I'm gonna take you out."
"Now you need to stop with the witches' brew. You're starting to believe your own press."
Malik smirked, Bonnie just smiled and looked away for a second before looking back she squinted her eyes and began giving him aneurism.
She held the contact, giving him pain, he was holding his head in pain until Bonnie stopped after a while and giving him a fake innocent face spoke.
"Oh, I'm sorry, you were saying?"
Bonnie walked off with a smug expression while Damon looked at Mal, but he just raised an eyebrow and gave him the same smile and went after his sister.
As they arrived at the porch Bonnie walked to Elena immediately and without hesitation began talking.
"Oh my god! Damon drives me crazy. He's walking around like he's some kind of hero for healing Caroline when it's his fault all of this happened in the first place."
"I'm sorry Bonnie. What Damon's done is just awful."
Mal raised an eyebrow at that, his alarms went off, but he wasn't sure why, but it seemed Elena noticed it as well, she looked at him while Bonnie just took a deep breath and continued with a smile.
"Okay, better. Hateful Damon moment over."
The moment Bonnie touched her arm she immediately sensed that she was not Elena. Seeing her face Malik realised the sensation he had earlier, and he spoke immediately smiling at the girl.
"We've got to find Tyler and pay our respects. We'll be back."
"Okay."
They both walked away as the girl watched them go. They walked into a different room, that was the point when Bonnie pulled her phone out and dialling Elena's number called her.
"Hello?" came the voice of their friend through the phone.
"Elena? Where are you?"
"Bonnie, I know I'm late. I'm getting in the car now. I'll be there in five."
Mal was looking at her expectantly, but he noticed how shocked she seemed. They turned around to leave but suddenly there stood Katherine behind them, making them gasp and Bonnie pushed Malik behind her protectively.
"We haven't officially met. I'm Katherine."
"I know who you are" spat Bonnie but that just amused the vampire even more.
"Of course you do. You're the best friend right? And that's your twin brother. I've been putting all the pieces of Elena's life together. Isobel told me it was a bit of a puzzle. I do know who Jenna and Jeremy are and I met that delicious ex-boyfriend Matt, who's sweet on Caroline, and then there are you two, the vampire-hating Bennett witches. Did I do good?"
Bonnie turned around with Mal to leave the room, but Katherine sped around them and blocked their way out.
To protect Mal who was suddenly between the two women Bonnie focused on Katherine and used her aneurysm spell on the vampire. For a brief second it seemed it was working but then Katherine just smiled and looking at them spoke up.
"I've been around a long time Bonnie; you're gonna have to do..."
Right in that moment she grabbed her head and screamed out in pain, veins appeared on her head as she stumbled back. Bonnie looked back at Mal who had his hand out, but it began to shake.
"We have to go Bonnie" warned the boy immediately.
He dropped his hand and panted but suddenly Katherine grabbed his throat and slammed him against the wall, her face changed and seemed ready to bite into him when the door suddenly opened up thanks to Bonnie.
Katherine seemed mildly impressed and her face changed back seeing the people from outside were beginning to pay attention.
"Nice."
Stefan walked to the entrance and standing outside the doorway looked at the girl with a polite smile.
"Katherine"
"Stefan!"
"Leave them alone."
"Okay" came the off handed answer from her and letting go of Malik's throat just smiled and walked out.
As she left Malik turned around and the Bennett duo looked at Stefan who looked after Katherine but then back to them.
None of them said a word and Stefan left. Bonnie seemed worried and checking out Mal her voice broke for a moment.
"I was so scared... are you alright?"
"I'm fine Bonnie."
"What happened? You started shaking..."
"I'm not sure" answered Malik and looking at his hand noticed that he was still shaking. "I think it's best if I go... find Elena let her know what happened."
"But what about you?"
Malik took a step forward and hugging her sister began to breath slowly until he seemed to regain his full control again. As they separated Malik just smiled spoke gently.
"I'll be alright. Katherine is occupied, no other vampires are around who would be foolish enough to attack the Bennett witches."
Everyone was preparing for the Mystic Falls High School Carnival. Bonnie and Elena were walking around while Malik walked behind them, allowing the girls to take care of everything.
"Katherine looked just like you, it was freakish."
"She is my ancestor. Hey, I moved the student booth into the cafeteria."
"Your vampire ancestor and she didn't just resemble you like a family member would. She was you."
"I don't know, I can't explain it. It's creepy, that's all I got."
"That is the definition of a doppelgรคnger" spoke Malik immediately and looking at the list continued. "Fair warning, this will not be Caroline approved. Just saying."
"How do you know she's not still out there pretending to be you?"
"I don't but I could sit here and be tortured by the not-knowing, or I could get these prizes to the ring toss."
"Have you talked to Damon since he killed Jeremy or tried to kill Jeremy?" asked Malik suddenly while taking the board from Elena scanned the list.
"No Mal, I haven't, and I won't. I don't want to talk about Damon or anything else that's vampire related okay?" asked the girl and gave a bag full of plush to Bonnie." I'm human. And I have to do human stuff. Otherwise, I'm going to go crazy."
"Okay, I'm sorry, we'll focus. We have to make Caroline proud or she will kill us. I don't know how she does all of this" spoke Bonnie looking around while Mal just looked at the board and letting out a sigh gave it back to Elena.
"Well because she's not human, obviously."
"Obviously" chorused the Bennett duo and they all began to laugh.
As they were walking around making preparations, arriving into the school Malik noticed Stefan and Jeremy talking, but it seemed Stefan noticed them so once they got here he turned towards them and spoke up.
"Hello Elena, Malik."
"Hey, did you..." asked Elena looking at her brother before the boy just rolled his eyes and interrupted his sister.
"Yeah, yeah, I set up the gold fish toss all three hundred gold fish. It's gonna be epic!" after that fantastic and highly sarcastic sentence he looked at Mal who just nodded and looking at Elena smiled before walking off with him.
As they walked away Jeremy began talking quietly but tried not to be suspicious.
"I suppose you heard what happened."
"Yeah... which is why it's safe for him not to be anywhere around me. Or he will be permanently dead."
"How does this ring work anyway? Is it like a super spell or something?"
"Conditional magic" responded Malik. "As long as the conditions are set right, and the person casting it is powerful enough, there are no limits."
"How is this not against nature?"
"Because it won't make you immortal, just allows you to battle the supernatural as long as you're human yourself" answered Mal. "But there are always consequences... how are you feeling?"
"Weird because I have died and came back to life... but okay. Why?"
"My ancestor Emily created that ring, but she died not too long after, so the affects and consequences aren't recorded in her Grimoire. So just to be safe... please try not to die again."
"I'll see what I can do" laughed Jeremy and as they arrived to a room he began asking questions again.
"Stefan told me about herbs and ways to kill vampires..."
"Jeremy listen" stopped Malik and looked serious. "There are ways to battle the supernatural but going head on isn't something that you should consider. You're protected but do not provoke them. Okay? Especially Damon, he's unpredictable right now."
"I'll be fine. I won't provoke him don't worry."
The carnival was underway but in the absence of Caroline they still had to keep an eye on things. Malik was walking around with Bonnie taking notes but as they found Elena Malik began to talk immediately without even saying hello.
"The ring toss is out of Bart and Homer dolls and Team Jacob T's."
"Okay, I can grab some from the science club. Also we lost a speaker in the karaoke room."
"Hey, all good Elena, take a beat, look around. This is a huge success" spoke Bonnie but Mal just raised an eyebrow but seeing Elena's worried face he just smiled and turned away.
"You mean I can do more than just freak vampire havoc?"
"I better get going" mumbled Malik and walked away from the girls, he wasn't sure if he wanted to be present for what was coming after.
As he walked around he noticed Jeremy and Damon, but he sensed a certain amount of tension, and knowing what had happened before, he rushed towards them.
He noticed as Damon caught Jeremy as he walked from him and took him away from the crowed.
"So please tell me that that is not a threat" Malik heard Damon say with a cocky but warning tone.
"Maybe it is" responded Jeremy and without fear showed the ring on his finger.
Damon choked him from behind with an arm under his chin
"This is what we're not gonna do: we're not gonna walk around like we are invincible when it's this easy for me to end you. Okay... If you want to tell people what I really am go ahead and try" spoke Damon and held up Jeremy's ring that he stole it from his hand. "I will shove this ring so far up your ass, you'll really have something to choke on."
He flicked the ring at Jeremy's face and left while Jeremy held his face where the ring hit him in pain before looking down and recovering the ring.
But as Damon walked off he ran into him.
Seeing Malik in front of him with an emotionless yet dangerous face Damon seemed to get worried before he decided to smirk and simply play it off.
"Malik, did you come to save little Jeremy'sโ"
He stopped talking, he was choking on air unable to utter another word.
Malik just tilted his head with a fake concerned look before leaning closer whispered into his ears.
"You've killed him once, only by luck he survived. Try to even attempt to kill him again and I will make you suffer, vampire."
Malik just looked towards Jeremy and began walking to him, it was only after when Damon got released from the spell and grabbing his throat looked towards the Bennett and squinting his eyes disappeared from there.
"Hey Jer" spoke Mal with a smile. "How is it going?"
The boy just collected himself and smiling at his best friend greeted him.
"Malik, good to see you man."
The boy just smiled all knowingly and tilted his head before he just shook his head and wrapping an arm around his shoulders they walked off enjoying the Carnival.
As they were walking around and having fun, once again he began to hear that familiar noise. Looking around he watched the people but Jeremy noticed him instantly and stepping in front of him spoke in a partially worried but mostly excited tone.
"Another glimpse of the present, isn't it?"
Mal could not speak just nodded when Jeremy looked around and leading the boy allowed him to sit down and spoke up happily.
"Well don't wait around! Go and see what's happening!"
He just gave a quick disapproving look but then he closed his eyes and leaned back, allowing the images to force their way into his mind. It was all fuzzy but he heard people talking, making him focus on those instead.
"You agree with Damon, don't you? Stefan?"
"I hear Elena..." spoke Malik but kept his eyes closed. "Something bad must have happened... they assume Damon might be right."
"That's definitely not good" agreed Jeremy. "Anything else?"
"Damon's right, not about what we should do but about what's gonna happen. Katherine already signed Caroline's death sentence."
Hearing that he suddenly opened his eyes and getting up excused himself from Jeremy.
"Something happened to Caroline, Katherine did something. I need to find Bonnie."
"Just be careful man" warned Jeremy in a worried tone.
Malik smiled at him and after a quick embrace he rushed away looking for his sister. He was frantic and the voices and images in his head made things a lot harder.
He saw Caroline cry.
He saw immense fear and anger.
"Get away from me! You killed me!"
The sensation of death started to become overwhelming, that's when he ran into Bonnie. She was smiling and chatting until she saw his face and noticed his eyes, she could see Malik was seeing things again. Rushing to him Bonnie grabbed his hands, allowing Mal to focus one last time.
"Damon, she's my friend."
As he gasped for air Bonnie looked at him but she felt the sensation of death and fear making her worry. She did not ask, just nodded and allowed her brother to grab her hand and run away from there.
As they finally arrived where all the others were Malik was shocked, seeing Caroline alive and her face covered in blood.
"Caroline?"
"It's okay, come on" spoke Stefan but Bonnie noticed the blood as well.
She looked at Mal who just looked worried and sad staring at the blonde.
"No, you're not; you can't be" stated Bonnie and rushing to her friend she touched her arm, the familiar cold sensation ran through her, Bonnie was horrified by the truth.
"Bonnie?" asked Caroline hoping her friend would not be scared or hate her but in that moment Bonnie noticed the body.
"Oh, god!" exclaimed the with looking at the dead boy.
"Bonnie..." tried Caroline again but seeing the situation Malik walked closer to Stefan and putting his hand on his arm the two looked at each other.
Mal indicated with his head to move from there, that's when Stefan took Caroline away from the area to the bathroom inside the building.
Malik went after them and as they arrived there Stefan took some tissues to wipe the blood off her face.
Caroline started to wash away the blood too, but she was distressed.
"She hates me! Bonnie hates me."
"No, no, she's just in shock, we all are" tried Stefan but Caroline's emotions were all over the place.
"And what about Matt?" asked the blonde and began crying.
That was the point when Malik stepped closer and taking the tissues from Stefan spoke gently, his voice barely louder than a whisper.
"Ssh. One thing at one time, let's get this blood off, come on... we don't allow ourselves to look anything but fabulous, right?"
"I'm a murderer. I'm a monster" argued Caroline still crying but Malik smiled and continued to comfort her gently.
"Look at me, your emotions are heightened right now. It's part of the transformation. it's completely normal. I promise you. Okay?"
Caroline saw her face changing in the mirror and began to panic.
"Why does this keeping happening to my face?!"
Malik looked at Stefan with a pleading look, allowing the vampire to step closer and grabbing Caroline's face he began talking.
"Look at me, look at me, look at me! Caroline, Caroline! Look at me! Look at my face, look at my face!" in that moment his face began to change as well. "You see that? When you feel the blood rushing, you tell yourself that you're going to get through it, that you're strong enough. Yes, yes, no matter how good it feels to give yourself over to it, you fight it off, you bury it. Watch me, watch me. It's the only way you're gonna survive this thing. Try."
Caroline looked at Malik who just smiled at her and nodded before she closed her eyes and took a few breaths; her face slowly returned to normal.
"That's good."
"Why did Katherine do this to me?"
"I don't know, I wish I did. Hey, hey, I promise you I will not let anything happen to you. Come here. Come here."
Malik stood there with a smile on his face, watching the two interact he just turned around and left them, walked outside again but on the way he ran into Bonnie who was crying and Elena was comforting her.
Malik didn't ask any questions just joined them and walking outside they got to the car park.
Once they got into the car they gave a lift to Elena home before the Bennetts gone home as well. Once they got home Bonnie just began walking away to her room when Malik spoke gently.
"She's not gone yet, you know that."
"I hope you're right... but she is a vampire now. She can't be trusted."
"But labelling her as a monster isn't an option either. I'm not asking you to pretend nothing happened... but don't push her away."
"I'll think about it. Goodnight."
Mal just shook his head and began walking to his room. It was late but he decided to take a shower and relax. He was mildly surprised how well he took the events of the night. But considering that even if Caroline turned into a vampire, she was still technically alive.
He didn't know what he would have done if he had lost Caroline too.
He was hoping Caroline could learn to control it all because his sister was ready to take anyone out who was a vampire... but he wasn't ready to stand by if it was Caroline.
Malik was not exactly happy. Right in the morning he got a phone call, he wasn't sure if he wanted to hex the person or the phone.
By the third time the phone began ringing again he slowly pushed himself up in the bed and reaching for the device he didn't even check who it was, he just answered the phone in a threatening voice.
"Someone better be dying or I'll make sure you'll be dead"
"I've been dead for over a century, hope that counts. It's for Caroline, Mal. I wouldn't have called if it wasn't urgent."
Mal sat up immediately and rubbing his eyes tried to collect his thoughts.
"What's going on?"
"I want to help her but I need help... magic. Could you and Bonnie meet me at the Grill?"
"Sure...just give me time to wake up... I'll message you when we are on our way."
"Thank you Mal, I appreciate it."
"Okay Casanova, I'll see you later."
Once he hung up he was looking ahead, still half asleep but forcing himself he climbed out of his bed and aiming for Bonnie's room the girl was still sleeping. Mal walked there and without being gentle got onto the bed waking up his sister who looked at him with tired eyes spoke in a groggy voice.
"What is it..."
"Give me a second I need to wake up to"
To her surprise the boy just snuggled closer and closed his eyes, Bonnie just looked shocked but then a smile appeared on her face and hugged her brother, cuddling to him they fall back asleep.
They did not have a long time to go because Bonnies phone was bombarded by text messages making the girl get up and looking at the phone she turned to his sleeping brother and spoke gently.
"Did you agree to meet with Stephan by any chance?"
"I told him I'll message him when we are ready to meet" came the sleepy voice of Malik from the pillows making Bonnie giggle.
"Alright then, let's get going. I'll get you breakfast at the Grill."
She got up and began to get ready but Mal did not move for quite a while. Bonnie was already dressed and the boy still did not move from the bed. That was the moment when Bonnie moved her hands and the blankets disappeared from the boy who groaned and began to move his hands about but since he was unsuccessful he sat up and looking around spoke up.
"Why?"
"You arranged the meeting; you better get up now. Or I won't get that breakfast for you..."
The boy just groaned and rolling off the bed he began walking to his room, closed the door and Bonnie was almost certain he just got into his own bed but after a few minutes he emerged again, his hair messy and curlier than usual, he had a loose shirt on and some jeans.
Putting on shoes as well he just rubbed his eyes as he walked to the door and spoke to Bonnie.
"Let's go!"
As they arrived to the Grill, Stefan was already there sitting at a table but seeing the Bennett duo walk in he smiled and immediately expressed his gratitude.
"Thank you so much for meeting me, I wouldn't have called if it wasn't important."
Bonnie just looked at Mal who wasn't fully paying attention, his eyes were scanning the place for a waiter to order is well deserved breakfast. Stefan began to explain his idea to help Caroline while Malik ordered his food. Luckily Stefan seemed to be considerate enough to wait till Malik actually started eating before he began talking again.
"I'm trying to help Caroline, but for that process she needs to be able to walk in the sun again."
"I don't know how to make a day-walking ring" refused Bonnie almost immediately.
"Emily made mine, she made Damon's too, instructions must be in the Grimoire."
"That doesn't mean I can cast the spell."
"Bonnie, you know how to drop vampires with a single look, okay? I think you can figure it out."
"Caroline killed someone, Stefan. I can't make it easier for her to do it again."
"No, we're not making it easier for her; we're just giving her the chance to survive. Listen, every day that she's cut off from her old life - from you, from Elena, from Matt, it'll make it that much harder for her to hold on to her humanity."
"And how do you know she won't hurt anyone else?"
" I don't, but if we don't do everything we can to help her or at least trust the fact that she can keep it together, we might as well just stake her right now."
"I don't know if I can trust her, not with this."
"Then trust me."
Bonnie remained silent and began thinking when Mal just put his orange juice down and clearing his throat gained the attention of both of them, he just looked at Stefan and spoke.
"I'll do it."
"Mal!" scolded Bonnie but the boy just raised an eyebrow.
"I'll talk to Caroline, but I want to give her the opportunity to try and be better. If we abandon her now... what would happen if she went on a killing spree and we would need to kill her?"
Bonnie remained silent but Malik knew he got to her. Not enough for Bonnie to do the spell but Malik did not care.
"After food I'll go and have a look through Emily's Grimoire then I can meet you at Caroline's."
"Thank you."
Stefan left them there, Bonnie could not believe what just happened but Mal ignored her completely just returned to his breakfast.
They sat there in silence until he finished, that was the moment when Bonnie spoke again.
"I can't believe you did that to me."
"I'm not sure why you're worried" responded Mal. "If Caroline crosses the line I will take away the magic of the ring. That simple."
"But if she hurts someone again it will be on you..."
"She could hurt someone even if she doesn't have the ring. So stop judging"
Bonnie remained silent for the rest of the morning, didn't even talk to Malik. Once they arrived back at the house she just went to her room in a huff while Malik collected Emily's Grimoire and made her way out of the house.
It took him a while, but he finally arrived to Caroline's place he let himself in and walked to Caroline's room. As he arrived there Stefan prompted out a ring for Caroline to wear, she just took it and looked at it with a frown while Malik looked into the Grimoire looking for the spell.
"So, I don't get to choose the ring I have to wear the rest of my life?"
Malik just looked up with a frown on his face as well and looked at the blonde.
"Hey, if you don't want it..."
"No, no, she wants it" butted in Stefan immediately while sending a warning look to the blonde.
"Now what?" came the question with a loaded attitude which made Malik lower the Grimoire.
"Now is the part where I explain the rules. The witch who casts the spell has the power to reverse it. Meaning, if you ever do anything to hurt anyone..."
"I'm not gonna hurt anyone!"
"I seriously hope so, Care. But don't forget that you are a vampire that means the urge to kill is a part of who you are."
"Come on Malik, you're supposed to be my friend."
"I am, Care... but after what happened at the carnival I want to make sure you realise how serious things are. Now put the ring on the bed."
Caroline put the ring on the bed but as she began thinking about the events of the carnival she looked at Mal and spoke quietly.
"Do you really think I meant to kill that guy at the carnival?"
"No sweetie, I know that's not you... but he's still dead. Now, do you want me to cast the spell or not?"
Malik opened the curtain a little bit, allowing the sun to shine on the ring. Caroline immediately scooted back a bit more, hugging herself tried to stay away from the sun as much as she could, while Malik looked at the ring and closed his eyes. He was barely mouthing the chant his focus did not break until he finished and opening his eyes picked up the ring and handed it to the blonde.
"All done."
She took the ring and put it on her finger but her face said it all, she was unimpressed and slightly disappointed.
"So that's it? I mean nothing witchy happened. You know, no flickering lights, no gust of wind. Have you even done this before?"
"Caroline..." warned Stefan, hoping the blonde would stop but...
"What? I just want to make sure that it worked."
Malik rolled his eyes and letting out a groan snapped his fingers and the curtains opened, the sun hit Caroline immediately. She covered away but the sun did not burn her.
"It worked" smirked Malik.
"What if it hadn't?!" complained Caroline further but Malik just looked at Stefan and whispered with an amused smile.
"She's all yours. Have fun."
He just picked up the Grimoire and walked out of there not even looking back but he had a smile on his face which made the two vampire more relaxed.
As he left the house he began walking back home and looking at his phone his smile slowly disappeared. Knowing it was the night of the full moon, his memories wanted to surface.
Shaking his head rushed home, not looking anywhere, simply did not care, just wanted to be back and relax.
He had enough supernatural drama for the day and he was barely after his breakfast.
