Another day of trying their best to be mundane and to stay out of the supernatural drama. If the night of the Miss Mystic Falls event proved anything, is that there is always something and one of the Bennetts would need to swoop in and save the day... but at what cost.

So instead, Malik let Bonnie drag him to help out with the parade but sitting down and talking to Caroline and the plans got him thinking... perhaps taking down vampires would be better than this.

"Alright, show us" asked Bonnie with a smile.

"Let's reference last year's Miss Mystic float" said Caroline and typed "Mystic Falls Founders' Day" into Bing on her computer, pulling up a picture of previous years float.

"This is what they did last year" she turned her computer and showed a picture to the Bennetts before continuing. "And this is exactly what we don't want to do."

"Ewh. Okay! So, what are we doing?"

"Southern classic elegance"

"Gone with the Wind?" asked Mal with a huge amount of 'really?' in his tone.

"How'd you know?"

"You channel Scarlett, daily" responded Bonnie easily.

"So true!"

They all laughed, but then Caroline frowned a little while looking around.

"Where's Elena? She's supposed to be helping."

"I don't know" shrugged the Bennett duo at the same time making Caroline narrow her eyes at them.

"Okay, what's the deal?"

"What do you mean?" asked Mal but looked away from the girl.

"Nice try, her and Elena are fighting. Spill!"

"It's nothing" stated Bonnie calmly with a hint of 'I don't want to talk about it' tone.

"It's not nothing. You know this whole float is supposed to be about friends creating something together and everyone is fighting. Matt and Tyler hate each other, you and Elena are on the outs, and I don't like it! I mean me and Malik are on better terms then you guys. That's bad! And I can't fix it if I don't know what's wrong."

Mal just smirked by her statement about them two, they looked at each other and stuck their tongues out before the blonde returned to her best friend waiting for an answer.

"I can't talk about it, Caroline, I'm sorry."

Caroline just gave Bonnie a pointed look before she turned to Mal who simply shook his head and raised his hands, indicating to the blonde that he wasn't going to spill. It was between Bonnie and Elena, he wasn't about to get involved.

Once the day was finished and they all got home, Malik got comfortable in their living room and began completing his homework and assignments, making Bonnie raise an eyebrow but then she went to her room to change.

Sitting there in silence he began to hear a quiet whistle, making him look around but before he could have gotten up, he became lightheaded and falling back on the chair his eyes became blurry. He had flashes of pictures but it was so quick and blurry he wasn't sure what to do with them but he also couldn't stop them. Relaxing himself he leaned back and allowed the pictures to rush through his mind, they became even more intense as it went on until suddenly he saw a picture of someone calling his name.

"Malik"

Right after that his vision cleared up and everything returned to normal, making him look around but no one was there.

So now he had to decide... should he tell his overprotective sister about this or try and hide it...

Yep, definitely hide it.Stupid idea but if he hoped to be left alone... he was going to hide it.

"So... Elena is adopted."

"Yes."

"Her mum was or is Isobel, who was also Mr Saltzman's dead ex-wife."

"Right again"

"And it turns out she is a vampire, who turned up in Mystic Falls threatening to hurt Jeremy if she did not get Jonathan Gilbert's device from Damon."

"Yes again."

"And now you're all good with Elena and you're not fighting."

"You're on a roll" sassed Bonnie making Mal roll his eyes, but then he looked at Emily's spell book and continued.

"This Jonathan Gilbert lived here the same time as Emily right?"

"Yeah... What are you thinking?"

"I find it slightly weird that our ancestor was loyal to vampires and did nothing. And then there is this man in 1864 who invented devices to track down vampires and other things when even today's technology could not do it."

"Are you suggesting..."

Mal looked in the grimoire and as he went through the pages stopped and pointed at something to Bonnie.

"Elena did say there was a pocket watch..." pointing at an imagine in the grimoire Bonnie immediately recognised the drawing while the warlock continued. "Not to mention the Gilbert rings. We should talk to Elena; this doesn't make sense."

Bonnie nodded and pulling out her phone texted Elena while Malik grabbed the Grimoire and got their stuff walked downstairs. Bonnie followed behind him and getting into the car they went to school.

Once they got there they went to one of the science labs and there Malik pulled out the book again and opening it read from it while Bonnie waited but soon enough Elena came in and closing the door walked to the duo. Malik just smiled at the girl while Bonnie greeted her friend.

"Hey! Thanks for meeting us. We wanted you to see this."

"Is that Emily's spell book?"

"Yeah. Check this out."

Elena looked at the page and recognized the drawings on the page immediately, looking at the witches wanted to clarify.

"That's the vampire compass."

"According to Emily, Johnathan Gilbert never actually succeeded in inventing anything. Emily secretly spelled them all with magic. Compass, rings, and the mystery device you told me about."

Malik was turning the pages while Bonnie was talking, allowing Elena to see all of those inventions as well until they gotten to the last one.

"Yeah that's it. Well, a part of it. Damon only has the one piece."

"Emily pledged her loyalty to Katherine. But she couldn't stand by and watch innocent people get killed. This was the only way she could think of to help. To let Johnathan Gilbert believe that he'd actually invented these devices" explained Bonnie gently.

"Does it say what it does?"

Bonnie turned to the page as Elena looked at it as well and started to read it when Malik finally spoke up.

"Are you sure this is what Isobel wants?"

"Yeah, I'm sure. Why?" questioned Elena confused.

"This is a weapon" stated Malik. "Against vampires."

Elena was shocked and looked back to the picture before nodding and they all exited the room once Malik put the Grimoire away.

As they went on their day everyone was helping with the floats and preparations for the parade, the due sticked to each other, even if Bonnie seemed to be alright with Elena Malik tried to stay away from Jeremy as much as he could, hoping he wouldn't hurt him... plus Anna being around him did not help either.

They went to the boats to help out Caroline, Malik began to hear the weird noise again, but it was slightly different. He didn't have images, it felt more like a familiar sensation and a warning. Looking around he watched the crowed, but it was difficult to point anything out, until he saw Elena talk to a woman.

His eyes widened but as the shouting began he noticed the float was dropped at one point and the shouting began. He rushed there to help lift it up, seeing that Matt was stuck under, as soon as Stefan got next to him, they locked eyes and Mal nodded and whispered a quick spell allowing the float to lift up. Once Matt was out and people were letting go it dropped down.

Stefan went to Matt while Malik looked around and locked eyes with Isobel who just smirked, once Elena turned away from her she just disappeared, the next thing that left her mouth made Malik extremely worried.

"Jeremy!"

She looked around desperately, but it seemed she could not see him, neither could Malik, once they looked at each other, Malik shouted to her.

"I'll go get Bonnie!"

Once everyone gathered in Alaric's classroom Bonnie sat down while Malik stood behind her, Stefan and Elena walked in as well but she was frantic, paced around Stefan who just stood there.

"Where is the device?"

"Damon has it. He's going to be difficult to reason with" explained Stefan, but it did not help at all, Malik started to get even more worried.

"We'll go to him, I'll talk to him" said Elena with a hopeful but also desperate voice.

"He's not just gonna hand it over, especially if it's harmful to vampires."

For a brief second there was silence until Elena had an idea and looking at the witches spoke up.

"What if it's not?"

They all looked at each other, but as neither Bonnie nor Malik argued Elena seemed hopeful and even Stefan believed it could work. They drove to the Salvatore Boarding House to talk to Damon, Malik had little hopes for the plan to actually work but kept his thoughts to himself.

Damon was already shocked to see both witches there but as Elena and Stefan began explaining the plan to Damon he was quick to react.

"Absolutely not! I'm not gonna give the device to Isobel so she could give it to John who is going to turn it to kill me. I like being a living... dead person."

"But it'll be useless, Bonnie can take its power away."

"I don't trust her. And I definitely don't trust him" pointed Damon at Malik who just gave a fake smile and sent a kiss to him.

"I can remove the original spell" stated Bonnie calmly.

"John and Isobel will never know" continued Elena, trying to convince Damon.

"No, I'll get Jeremy in my own way."

"Really? How are you going to do that? Because Isobel is a vampire and Jeremy could be dead the second you walk in the door."

Damon turned towards the witches and looking at Bonnie spoke to her in a disbelieving voice.

"Are you even up for this? I mean no offense, you're no Emily Bennett. Emily knew what she was doing."

"I've been practicing."

"It's not piano lessons, honey."

"What's your favourite book?" butted in Malik looking at the vampire with a challenging tone.

"What?"

"Name a book, any book" continued Bonnie walking up to Damon, making everyone look between them, but Damon was quick to say what they were thinking.

"This whole... twins thing is freaky. Alright, name a book... How about "Call of the wild", Jack London?"

Bonnie turned and looked at the library, raising her hand she whispered a spell when suddenly one of them moved and a book flied over and landed in Damon's hands. The vampire looked at the book and read the title.

"Jack London. Great parlour trick"

"I'll do it then" stood up Mal surprising everyone, made Bonnie slightly worried but the boy continued without looking at her. "Or do you want me to show you what I'm capable of?"

Suddenly the lights began to flicker as his eyes had a slight light appear in them but then everything settled down and Malik returned to his seat while Elena stepped to Damon.

"We're doing this, Damon. And we're doing it my way. Now give me the device. We're wasting time!"

"I don't trust you, I tried to kill you" said Damon pointing at Bonnie, then turned to Malik. "And I definitely don't trust you. You hate me and this is the first time we are meeting."

"You're right, you can't trust us" came the simultaneous respond from the Bennetts which made Damon visible shudder, but Elena tried to get his attention back to her.

"But you can trust me."

Damon looked at her and as the two of them held eye contact Stefan looked at them, keeping an eye on them but this made Mal smirk and enjoyed the silent drama that was about to happen.

Damon handed over the device to Elena who seemed happier and looking at the witches she walked to them, handing the device to them but Bonnie quickly took it, ignoring Mal who started pouting.

They set everything up on a table, Bonnie opened Emily's spell book and looked at the spell description in there before she returned to the device and slowly raised her hands over it and began concentrating.

The device began floating up in-between her hands, as it got higher lights began to flicker and in the fireplace the lights roared up, just like the candles, until suddenly the device fell onto her palm and everything returned to normal.

"Done" announced Bonnie and handed the device to Elena.

"Great, now what?" asked Damon and looked at them when the brunette girl responded while looking at the device.

"Now we give it to Isobel."

Malik jumped up from the chair and clapping his hands together gave them all a clearly fake smile before it turned to serious and picking up the Grimoire also grabbed his sister's hand spoke up.

"You're welcome, please don't call us again. And I want to know when Jeremy is safe."

Before they could have said anything the duo strutted out and getting into the car they began driving away, but Malik noticed they weren't going home, they were heading into town.

"Where are we going?"

"Meeting Caroline"

So they there were sitting there, Malik was munching on some curly fries waiting to see what was this meeting all about, but Caroline decided to take matters into her hand since Bonnie just stayed quiet.

"So you're not going to tell me what happened?"

"I did something bad, Caroline, and I lied about it."

"To who?" asked the Blonde but Malik stopped eating and his eyes flickered to Bonnie, hoping that she wasn't going to tell everything to the blonde.

"To Elena. I pretended to do something I didn't really do. I couldn't do what she wanted me to do. It wasn't right. Grams would have never done it, so I couldn't either. But when Elena finds out, she's never gonna forgive me."

Caroline was confused but Malik just finished the fries and getting up looked at the girls and made his quick announcement:

"I have to go, need to check on with Jeremy."

Before any of them could have said a word he rushed out of there while putting on his jacket.

Once outside he began rushing towards the Gilbert home. He hasn't received any messages from Elena and with the device still being active, as much as he wasn't a fan of Anna, Jeremy already went through losing one loved one before.

Arriving there he opened the door and walking in noticed John in the kitchen but ignoring him walked upstairs, getting to Jeremy's room he walked in noticed Anna was there hugging Jeremy. She was about to disappear when Malik raised his hand, and a barrier pushed the girl back but before any of them could have said a word Mal closed the door and spoke gently.

"I came to warn you Anna... the Founders are planning something, you need to be careful."

"What more do they want? They killed my mum..." cried the girl, Mal just looked at Jeremy who looked sad and kept looking between the two of them.

"The vampires from the tomb are still here. The founders will act against them, and they won't care if you came from that tomb or not. So please... stay away until this whole thing blows over."

Malik and Jeremy kept in contact a lot more, they were checking up on each other and Malik went to see him a lot more, and it seemed the awkwardness and tension eased regarding Anna, but the two still did not spend time in each other's presence.

Malik was with Bonnie at the parade, taking pictures before it all started, Caroline was taking pictures with Matt before the Founders' Day Parade, in their Civil War costumes. Mal did not mind that it was Matt on the boat, he preferred to stay on the side lines with Bonnie instead of being watched by all those people.

"Say cheese!"

"Oh wait! Hide your cast, it's not era-appropriate!"

"Seriously?"

"Yes!"

"Okay, fine."

Bonnie took the picture, but in the meantime Tyler arrived and stopped next to Mal who just glanced at the boy but then returned his attention to the other.

"I want one with Bonnie and Mal now."

"Here, I can take it" offered Tyler, but Matt just looked at him before looking back at Caroline.

"I'll be on the float."

Once he left Tyler looked at Caroline and tried to save himself immediately.

"I said I was sorry!"

"You made out with his mother and then you beat him to a pulp. You're gonna have to do a little bit better than sorry."

Caroline left leaving Tyler there who was looking at Malik for a bit, but the boy just gave him a polite smile and went after his sister.

The two were in the crowed watching the parade and waited, once they saw the boat with Elena and Caroline on they were both smiling and waving, once the brunette noticed them she gave a big smile and waved back but in that moment Damon walked in front of the two and waved to Elena, making her roll her eyes and look at Stefan before she looked elsewhere and waved to others.

Damon slowly turned around to the witches and looked at them, but not said a word, making Bonnie snap at him.

"What do you want?"

"Just watching the parade."

Both Bennett just rolled their eyes and began to leave when Damon called after them.

"Where are you going?"

"Away from you" explained Malik in a very 'duh' tone and they began to walk again when the vampire continued.

"I wanna say something to you."

"Just leave us alone!" exclaimed Bonnie annoyed, but Damon looked serious as he spoke again.

"Thank you. The device that Emily spelled could have killed me. I don't take what you did lightly so... thank you."

"I did it for Elena" muttered Bonnie, but Malik could not look at him, he began to feel guilty... and he did not like that.

Damon caused pain and suffering, he relished in feeding on people and murdering them. But that sentence still got to him.

"I know that, but I'm still very grateful. And... I owe you."

They looked at each other for a moment before Damon continued again:

"Enjoy the parade."

As he left Malik turned to Bonnie and both of them had the same expression on, before they decided to mingle in the crowd while watching the parade sideways, but as they walked across the people he began to hear the noise again and pictures flashed in his mind, but this time he heard voice with them as well.

"You okay?" asked Bonnie looking at Malik who just nodded but as he closed his eyes again other images flashed in his mind and he stumbled.

Bonnie grabbed him and pulling him to the side got him to sit down and spoke sternly.

"Just relax... what do you see?"

"People... in a basement... discussing something."

"Focus" spoke Bonnie. "We need to find out what's happening."

Malik closed his eyes and leaned back allowing the images to flood his mind until he began to see it clearly.

He saw the men standing around but looking at a map, pointing at it when one of them stepped up and began talking.

"Everybody listen up! The plan stays the same. We wait until the firework start; until then, we blend in. Stay a part of the celebration; they'll never see us coming."

He was showing the other ones a plan of the Mystic Fall's Town Square, Malik was trying to figure out what was happening until the guy from earlier spoke again.

"This area here is the stage. This is where the Founding Families are gonna be. Any questions?"

He was pushed out of it, blinking he was once again on the busy street and the noise level increased that caught him off guard, but seeing Bonnie's worried face he shook his head and looking at Bonnie spoke quietly.

"They're here... I don't know where but the vampires planning something tonight..."

"You better go home..."

"Don't even start Bonnie" interrupted Mal immediately and got up. "We need to make sure they don't hurt innocents. I'm not going anywhere until I know everyone is safe..."

Bonnie just nodded and the two of them separated. They were looking for their friends to make sure everything was alright, but as they went, Malik saw Stefan and Elena walk with Damon with them. As he got closer he heard Damon talk to them.

"What are you doing?" asked Elena after Damon linked arms with her and grabbed her hands.

"Saving your life. Fifteen words or less...Tomb vamps are here. Founding families are their target" he then turned to his brother and continued. "Get her out of here, now!"

"Wait, where are you going?"

"That's more than fifteen words, Stefan."

By the time he fully caught up with them Damon was gone but once he got there he caught Elena exclaiming in a worried tone.

"Wait, Jeremy is out here somewhere."

"Let's go find him, come on!"

"Jeremy is fine" spoke Mal getting their attention. "I already sent him a message"

"How did you know..."

"I found out not long ago but took me a while to find you. We need to get out of here and tell Damon to leave the area as well. Me and Bonnie will take care of the others."

They were about to argue but the noise level increased from the stage and they heard the mayor speak.

"Enjoy the show!"

As the fireworks started Malik was worried and looking at Elena and Stefan stayed close to them, when suddenly Stefan began to grab his head as the pain was about to incapacitate him, Elena seemed worried when Malik suddenly stepped closer and grabbing Stefan's arms pulled him close and hugged him, he began whispering a spell, making the pain affect the vampire far less.

Elena noticed the boy mutter the spell, she seemed relieved but also began to act like nothing suspicious was happening so that the officers weren't getting anywhere near them.

As they were standing there Mal kept chanting until the noise stopped and he slowly let go of him.

Stefan breathed out and Elena rushed to hug him. Malik was surprised but hugged the girl back, but as Alaric approached them Malik looked around and spoke to Stefan.

"I need to find Bonnie..."

He rushed away, looking at his phone texted his sister asking for her location and once she revealed where she was, he was hurrying there. Once he got there he looked at the door and spoke gently.

"Are they..."

"The fire has started... all the vampires are in there. What aboutโ€”"

"Stefan is fine but I'm not sure about..."

Right in that moment Stefan run towards the emergency door Bonnie rushed closer to him to stop the vampire.

"Hey, you can't go in there!"

Stefan did not listen, he went straight for the door, opened the first door when Malik spoke up this time, hoping to change his mind.

"The fire will take you out."

"He's my brother, Mal!"

He went into the building, he tried to open the basement's door but the doorknob was too hot. The due was looking at the building worried when Elena arrived worried and wanted to run in after Stefan.

"Stefan!"

"Elena, you can't go in there!" shouted Bonnie stopping the girl immediately.

"Bonnie, what are you doing?"

"I'm sorry I lied to you."

The two Bennetts looked at each other and after a nod they grabbed each other's hands and began chanting a speel while Mal raised his hand against the building.

"Ex spiritum intacullum, in terrum incendium, fes matos salvis adisdum!"

"Bonnie, I've got to get in there!" tried Elena but as the two Bennetts continued to chant she didn't know what was happening or what were they doing but looked at the door hoping that Stefan will come out safely. Inside the building, Stefan was finally able open the door but the fire was too large, until suddenly, the flames diminished, thanks to their spell.

"Bonnie... Mal, what is it? Are they gonna be okay?" asked Elena worried as the two stopped chanting but did not respond until suddenly Stefan and Damon come out of the building.

"Oh my god!" shouted Elena and ran towards them checking to make sure they were all alright.

They all separated from there, Bonnie took Malik away, they went back to the park and finding a bench sat down. Bonnie looked at Mal and saw how tired he was and he kept looking at the bracelet. She began patting his head and spoke gently to calm him down a bit.

"You saved them, I know your power is limited but it's better this way... until you learn to control it. I don't want to loose you to all of this madness"

"You won't Bonnie" answered the boy gently. "I did promise, I won't take this off until it's really important."

"You better go and rest..."

"No, I want to talk to Stefan" answered the boy. "I saved him from being taken away... but because of Elena."

"I know. That's why I did the same..."

"Then we need to make sure to set ground rules. They have to change... the tomb vampires are gone, which makes me feel better. But we allowed two vampires to remain in here, if they want to stay here they'll have to change."

"Agreed" spoke Bonnie. "Let's talk to Stefan then. Will you be okay? We have to look strong."

"I'll be fine" reassured Malik and they both got up and began walking towards the Grill slowly.

Just as they got there, Stefan exited the building. He looked at them slightly surprised but regardless he smiled and greeted the Bennett duo.

"Oh, hey."

"Hey" came the simultaneous answer.

"You... you just missed Elena."

"We were looking for you actually" corrected Bonnie, making the vampire slightly surprised, so Bonnie began to explain. "Elena is my best friend, and because she loves you, we couldn't let you or Damon die in that fire."

"I'm very grateful Bonnie, I hope you two know that."

"We do... but we hope you know that things have to change. Damon has to change" responded Malik with a serious tone.

"We want the same thing" reassured Stefan but the duo wasn't having it just yet. No, they needed to say more.

"We both want to protect the people we care about. The difference is, for you, Damon is one of them. You saw what we were able to do tonight. We know who we are now, and if Damon spills so much as one drop of innocent blood, we'll take him down. Even if we have to take you with him" Bonnie's speech was both a warning and a threat, it seemed Stefan took that very seriously as he looked at the duo and spoke carefully.

"Let's hope it doesn't come to that."

"For your sake, let's hope it doesn't" responded Malik with another small amount of threat before they all went their separate ways.

Things were changing and Malik wasn't sure if he liked it. Everything became more serious and dangerous and he wasn't sure they were powerful enough yet to protect everyone just yet... even if it was the two of them, the list of loved ones was long, and that made them vulnerable.

Both him and Bonnie were hoping they had more time before things began to escalate but little did they know... the biggest problem was already in town.
