Chapter 8: The night of the party

18:58, 12 September 2019

This was it. Tonight is the night I'm going to tell Deku my feelings for him...or at least try to anyway. I've got a song in mind and I'll need the rest of the girls from our class to be backup singers but it all really depends on Deku getting the message. He might not even realise that I'm singing the song for him. How can I make it clear that I'm singing about him? Think girl think...

"Hey Uraraka are you in there?" Yaoyorozu called while knocking on her door. Uraraka jumped from her bed opening the door to greet her friend.

"Oh good you're here come in" Uraraka motioned for her to enter the room.

"So is this what you wanted?" Yaoyorozu asked.

"Yes it's perfect thank you Yaoyorozu you're the best. I would've gone way over my budget if you hadn't done this for me I appreciate it" Uraraka beamed hugging her friend.

"Hey it's no problem Uraraka but may I ask why you're going to such a great amount of effort tonight? Are you trying to impress a certain someone?" She teased. Uraraka suddenly let go of her blushing hard and trying her best not to make eye contact with her.

"No of course not!...but on the off chance I was who would you think I was trying to impress?" Uraraka questioned wanting to know if she really was that obvious.

"Oh I don't know a cute green haired boy who's name rhymes with...hm I can't think of anything his name rhymes with but anyway it's Midoriya you've clearly been crushing hard on him for a while now although I have to say the last week you've been staring at him even more than you usually do in class....oh my god wait a second...DID MIDORYIA ASK YOU TO GO AS HIS DATE TONI-" she was cut off by Uraraka's hand over her mouth.

"Shhhh keep it down will you" Uraraka begged her. Yaoyorozu held her hands up in the air in a 'I surrender' pose. Uraraka shushed her before slowly remove her hand from her friend's mouth.

"You really are smart Yaoyorozu. How'd you figure it out?" Uraraka asked curious how she managed to put two and two together all of the sudden.

"Well not to be blunt but like I already said...it's so obvious. You stare at him all the time in class, whenever you're both in the gym, in the corridors, at lunch and even when we're doing combat training you're always looking for him. Anyway I figured it out because you've been doing it way more than usual all week and the two of you have been talking about how excited you are for this party all week and just now as I was rambling I thought why is Uraraka going to such great lengths by asking me to make her such a personalised dress for tonight and then it hit me...he asked you out" Yaoyorozu explained. Uraraka stared at her for a minute before saying anything.

"You know sometimes you ramble on for way too long that could've been a much shorter explanation but yes he asked me out" Uraraka said.

"When?" Her friend asked bouncing up and down with excitement.

"A week ago" Uraraka mumbled not wanting to talk about it. She'd been trying her best to keep her and Deku's relationship quiet and just between him and her but she knew she wasn't getting out of this.

"So are you guys a couple or what?" Yaoyorozu asked her eyes wide in anticipation.

"No we're not a couple...yet" Uraraka replied through gritted teeth.

"Yet?...oh my god you're gonna tell him how you feel about him tonight aren't you!?" Her friend exclaimed practically bursting with joy.

Honestly I think Yaoyorozu is more excited about this than I am.

"Would you calm down my plan might not even work" Uraraka said.

"Plan? Just tell him or kiss him during a slow dance or something why a big plan?" She asked confused why Uraraka was making this more difficult than it needed to be.

"I've tried to tell him and I couldn't do it and when he kissed my cheek last week I tried to-" Uraraka was cut off.

"He kissed your cheek!?" Yaoyorozu screamed not believing what she was hearing.

Shit I didn't mean to say that.

"No no no it's not like that he only did it because I kissed his cheek first at the end of our first date..." Uraraka tried to explain but panicked even more when she realised she'd just let even more information slip.

"You did what!?" She screamed yet again.

"Yaoyorozu would you please keep your voice down someone will hear you" Uraraka said begging her once again to be quiet.

"I'm sorry it's just...I can't believe you aren't a couple. You've apparently already been on one date which ended with you kissing his cheek. Then he asked you out on a second date to the party tonight and he kissed your cheek back? Girl are you blind?" She said still in disbelief that neither of them had confessed their feelings or said anything about dating officially.

"I know why do you think I'm gonna tell him tonight jeez lay off already" Uraraka said getting a little upset with the class vice president.

"Ok ok I'm sorry but can I tell you what I think?" Yaoyorozu asked clearly wanting to give her fellow classmate some advice.

"Sure" Uraraka said begrudgingly. Yaoyorozu put one arm around her before speaking.

"If you ask me you two are already acting like a couple you just haven't made anything official. I don't think you need some big plan just kiss him when you're alone or just ask if he wants more" she said soothingly offering her friend the best advice she could.

"Thanks Yaoyorozu but I have to do it this way. I tried that and failed miserably I just can't do it" Uraraka replied grateful for her friend's advice and clear care for her.

"Ok if you insist. What is your plan anyway?" Yaoyorozu asked curious.

"Well...."

*Later that afternoon*

"Hey Uraraka I'm here you ready?" Deku called from outside her room.

"Yeah give me one second" she called back. Uraraka was just taking a moment to admire Yaoyorozu's handiwork.

I can't believe she actually made this dress for me it's exactly what I wanted it to be if not better. I'll have to thank her properly later because this thing really is gorgeous.

"Hey Deku you ready?" Uraraka said closing her door behind her. She studied him for a second in his suit and tie and thought about how good he looked in it. His face was adorable as usual making him look so cute in formal clothes except he also still looked so lean and muscular in a suit making him look sexy at the same time.

Oh god am I really thinking about him like that already? He only just got here! Pull yourself together Uraraka and don't mess this night up before it's even begun.

"Wow Uraraka you look beautiful in that dress" Deku said amazed and stunned by the girl stood before him.

"Thanks Yaoyorozu made the dress for me and you look very handsome in that suit Deku" Uraraka replied.

"Thanks. So shall we get going?" Deku asked eager to get to the party.

"Yes let's" Uraraka said. They began walking and she reached for Deku's hand before stopping herself remembering that nobody knew they were on a date tonight...well everyone except Yaoyorozu if she'd kept her mouth shut like Uraraka had asked her to. She didn't notice that Deku had seen her reach for his hand though.

"You can take my arm if you want?" Deku offered.

"Hm?" Uraraka responded surprised by his offer.

"You can take my arm if you want. If you're worried holding hands is too much of a giveaway that is" Deku said kind of disappointed she didn't want to hold his hand but he understood her hesitation.

"Oh yeah that's a great idea. Yeah I'll do that instead" Uraraka beamed hugging onto Deku's arm.

"How's that?" He asked.

"Perfect" she replied. They walked out of the dorms and into the warm evening air. They were the first one's out to the coach that would take them straight to the bar the school had hired out.

"This is kind of like prom huh? The school booking out a venue to give us one night and one night only to enjoy ourselves and most of our teachers are going to be there" Uraraka said.

"Yeah I can see that. Except the school hired a coach for us instead of us getting our own rides there" Deku said.

"Yeah exactly. You even asked me to be your date for the night" she teased while smiling at him gently pulling his arm a little closer to her. Deku knew she was teasing him but her tone made it sound somewhere between a joke and genuine joy that he'd done it.

"Well I'm glad I did this is going to be a lot more enjoyable with you by my side Uraraka" Deku said not quite understanding the weight of his words and discovered a very red faced girl when he looked at her.

"Uraraka I'm sorry I didn't think it through I didn't mean for it to sound so...well you know" Deku tried to explain but she just tightened her grip on his arm.

"Uraraka?" Deku said concerned he'd done something wrong.

If that was the case why is she still holding onto my arm? Wait a second is she smiling?

"No it's fine Deku. You didn't do anything wrong so you can stop worrying" Uraraka said smiling widely from cheek to cheek unable to contain her happiness.

"Ok. Why don't we get onto the coach now while we wait that way we can make sure we're sitting together too" Deku suggested.

"Yeah let's" Uraraka said unable to stop smiling.

Why did that make me so happy? He didn't say anything overly romantic or anything and yet my heart is racing and I'm so happy right now...and so nervous.

They waited for the rest of their class to arrive and one by one they took their seats until eventually the entirety of class 1A was on board the coach. Once Mr Aizawa was happy they set off. Deku and Uraraka sat and talked about how much they'd been looking forward to this for weeks and a few of the girls complimented Uraraka's dress and she made sure to credit Yaoyorozu for making it causing the rest of the girls to ask why she hadn't made one each for all of them. Eventually they arrived and Mr Aizawa had a few words to say before they got off.

"Listen up students. Tonight is a night to celebrate all the hard work you've put into becoming heroes since you arrived at UA. I just want to take this moment to tell you that every single one of you has earned this tonight. You all passed your tests with flying colours this week you should be proud. Now get out there and enjoy yourselves" he said. Every student on the coach cheered and quickly got off the bus and entered the bar. There was a stage for the karaoke and a microphone stand with a screen for the lyrics and two giant speakers on either side of it. The bar itself stretched all the way along the wall to the left of the entrance and there were round tables all around the dancefloor just in front of the stage. Music was already playing as they entered but it was fairly quiet since they'd only just got there.

"Wow this is amazing Deku!" Uraraka exclaimed grabbing onto his arm again.

"I know right. So where'd you want to sit?" Deku asked. Uraraka thought for a moment about the fact that soon she'd be singing her heart out to Deku and chose the table right in the middle directly in line with the microphone stand.

"There" she said pointing at the table.

"Ok sure let's sit" Deku said leading her over to the table as she clung to his arm still. There were 5 round tables all together with 4 seats at each of them to accommodate the 20 students. Iida and Todoroki joined Deku and Uraraka at their table.

"Mind if we sit with you guys tonight?" Todoroki asked.

"Not at all we'd be happy to sit with you guys tonight" Deku replied. Upon taking their seats Deku offered to get the first round.

"What would everyone like to drink? First round is on me" he offered.

"Midoriya don't be absurd allow me" Iida said standing up.

"I guess you guys weren't listening yesterday huh?" Todoroki chimed in.

"Sorry?" The two boys said in unison confused by what the fire and ice user was saying.

"Yesterday Mr Aizawa said it was an open bar. All the drinks are free the school is paying for any expenses" Todoroki informed them.

"Ah I see" Iida said trying to hide his embarrassment. He took his seat again.

"Well I'll still get everyone a drink regardless. What would you all like?" Deku offered. They all told him what they would like to drink. After he memorised what they all wanted Deku headed over to the bar where he was greeted by a huge muscular man beaming down at him with his smile as enormous as ever.

"YOUNG MIDORIYA!" All Might bellowed.

"AAH!" Deku jumped surprised by the sudden greeting.

How did I not notice him coming he's huge!

"Oh hey All Might" Deku replied composing himself.

"Are you looking forward to karaoke tonight young man?" He asked his protegee.

"Yeah it should be fun" Deku replied before gesturing to his mentor to lean closer so he could ask him something.

"Can you keep that form up all night? None of the others know your secret" Deku whispered concerned.

"I'll be fine young Midoriya don't you worry about me as long as I don't do anything overly strenuous I should be able to hold this until the morning" he reassured the small boy in front of him.

"Anyway in other news...young Uraraka is looking quite beautiful tonight isn't she?" All Might teased. Deku turned to look at her but All Might stopped him instead making him face towards the bar and putting an arm around the boy leaning down to talk to him quietly.

"Don't look she's been glancing over at you from the moment you left the table and right now she's staring at you. Are you two dating?" He asked curious. Deku blushed furiously getting embarrassed and he began to panick.

"N-n-no i-its n-not l-like th-that" Deku lied poorly stuttering on every word. All Might eyed him causing Deku to let out a sigh of defeat. He couldn't lie to his idol.

"Fine fine. I asked her to be my date tonight" Deku said through gritted teeth.

"I KNEW IT!" All Might bellowed causing everyone to stare at him.

"Sorry everyone. Please carry on don't mind me" All Might said trying to play it off. Everyone soon went back to enjoying the party.

"So are you going to ask her to be your girlfriend tonight?" All Might pryed.

"...yes I was planning on it but I want you to know being the number one hero is still my priority All Might and I'll continue to take my training seriously and-" he was cut off.

"Now listen here young Midoriya. I know for a fact that you will be the number one hero someday and that relationship or not you will always strive for that. However that being said let me offer you some advice. One of the biggest regrets of my life is that I put everything into being a hero. No love life, no social life, nada. Only now in my old age have I begun to appreciate how important friends and love really are so listen here and listen well young man. Please live your best life. Settle down, have children, get married that sort of thing...for me. Could you do that for me young Midoriya?" All Might asked knowing this was a lot to take in for the young boy. He was only 16 after all.

"I...I...yes of course I won't let you down" Deku replied taken aback by his words but also understanding where it was coming from and he was determined not to let his mentor down no matter what the task.

"This isn't about me young man it's about you. I know I just asked you to do it for me but that's only because I don't want you to reach my age and think you've missed out. Do this for yourself not just me" All Might demanded.

"I... I will" Deku replied amazed by All Might's words.

"I'm not done either. Take a look over there and tell me what you see" All Might said pointing in Uraraka's direction.

"I see Uraraka?" Deku said not understanding what his mentor was asking.

"You're looking but you're not seeing young man. Try again" All Might said. Deku looked again. Uraraka was sat talking to Iida and Todoroki laughing with them her smile standing out more than anything in the whole world.

"I see a beautiful girl who's smile could make even a villain's heart skip a beat. I see a girl who does her very best to be the best she can be. I see a girl who no matter what the odds she comes out fighting and I know she'll always cover my back and I hers. I see a girl that I admire and care for deeply. I see a girl who is the best friend I've ever had and think I ever will have. I see a girl that I'm madly and deeply in love with and I could spend the rest of my life with her" Deku clasped his hand over his mouth at that last one.

"And there it is" All Might chuckled.

"I didn't mean that" Deku lied.

"Yes you did young Midoriya. I know love when I see it and you two are way past the point of return now. I've never seen two people love each other more than the two of you do and at such a young age. So the question is now that you've acknowledged the way you feel about her and what you want your relationship to be. What are you going to do about it?" All Might asked chuckling as he walked away leaving Deku to stand there in disbelief for a moment.

I already knew I felt this way about her but...I had no idea my feelings were that strong for her. All Might just lit a fire in me. I've got to ask her right now before I lose the urge to do it.

"Hey Deku you ok?" Uraraka asked. She'd seen him standing frozen by the bar with their drinks and red faced after his conversation with All Might and had walked over to check on him.

"Oh um Uraraka yeah I'm fine All Might just made me realise something" Deku explained.

"Oh? Realise what?" Uraraka asked curious what All Might had said to him.

"It's nothing but could we talk outside for a moment?" Deku asked quickly trying to get a private moment with her where he could tell her how he felt about her.

"Yeah sure let's take Iida and Todoroki their drinks first though" she replied smiling at him. She was a little concerned about him but he didn't seem upset or anything in fact he had a determined look in his eyes. They walked back over to the table giving Iida and Todoroki their drinks and taking a gulp of their own.

"Ok me and Uraraka are just going to go outside for a mome-" Deku began but was cut off by Present Mic.

"IT'S TIME TO START THE KARAOKE! AS AGREED UPON BY YOU ALL EVERYBODY SHALL SING AT LEAST ONE SONG TONIGHT AND YOUR NAME'S WILL BE DRAWN FROM A HAT AT RANDOM! FIRST UP IS....OCHAKO URARAKA!" he bellowed over everybody.

Shit I've missed my chance.

"I guess I'm up first" Uraraka gulped knowing what she was about to do. She looked at Deku and pulled a 'I'm sorry' face.

"It's ok we can talk another time. Now go on get up there and show us what you've got" Deku said smiling at her encouragingly not knowing what was about to happen.

"Go Uraraka you've got this!" Iida shouted as she walked up to the stage.

"Girls I'm gonna need some backup singers so all of you get up here" Uraraka said into the microphone. Following her instructions the girls of class 1A made their way to the stage all being a handed an extra microphone each. Yaoyorozu placed an encouraging hand on Uraraka's shoulder as she got onto the stage before taking her place behind her friend.

"You can do this" Yaoyorozu said. Uraraka nodded in reply grateful for her friend's support. Uraraka looked over to her table. Deku had taken his seat and was directly in her line of sight and she his. She saw him give her two thumbs up and a big smile causing her to take a deep breath.

"Ok girls let's do this..."
