Chapter 7: Asking her out

10:32, 11 September 2019

It had been 3 weeks since Deku and Uraraka had been on their date. The two of them had barely spoken to each other since then with the amount of work Mr Aizawa had been giving them lately plus all of their training on top made it pretty much impossible for anyone to catch a break. The few times they did get to talk there were other people around. Right now they were on their way back to the dorm after a hard day of training. It was Saturday so there were no classes but they had an assignment due in on Monday morning and physical tests in the afternoon. Iida, Deku and Uraraka had agreed they would train in the morning and help each other finish their assignment in the afternoon.

"Deku your workouts are intense" Uraraka said exhausted from Deku's tough training routine. They had all agreed to follow Deku's training since it focused on enhancing muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, speed and cardiovascular endurance so it pretty much covered everything.

"Yeah I know but I've gotta make my body stronger if I want to use my quirk to it's full potential" Deku said with a determined look in his eyes. Uraraka admired how much work he puts into being a hero it was incredible just like him.

"Indeed. We all must continuously strive to make our bodies and our minds stronger each and every day if we want to be pro hero's" Iida stated. Not liking how serious her two friends were getting about the future Uraraka decided to lighten the tone of the conversation.

"Yeah well that workout almost broke me it was insane and if that wasn't bad enough we've got the assignment still to do...shall we just tell Mr Aizawa we couldn't be bothered?" Uraraka said laughing. Her two friends looked at her in horror as if what she'd suggested was suicide... because it kinda was. However this only made Uraraka laugh even more at how intense and serious Iida and Deku could be.

"Guys relax it was a joke" Uraraka said reassuring them she hadn't gone crazy.

"Ah I see...it wasn't very funny" Iida said clearly not impressed. This caused Deku to burst out laughing and soon Uraraka continued her laughing fit along with him leaving Iida confused and somewhat annoyed.

"What on earth is so funny to you two!?" Iida demanded.

"Well it's just what she said was pretty funny Iida but the look on your face was priceless" Deku chuckled trying his best to compose himself but failing miserably.

"Stop it both of you this isn't funny we must all do our very best to one day become the pro hero's that we are destined to-" he was cut off by Uraraka giving him a small push in the back.

"Iida come on loosen up a little. Just because we're training to become pro hero's doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun we are still teenagers after all" Uraraka said trying to get her friend to see there was more to life than working hard.

"Yeah Iida don't get me wrong I want nothing more than to be the top hero one day but there's no harm in having some fun on the way" Deku chimed in.

"...I suppose you're right. Even still do you promise to take this assignment seriously when we study later?" Iida asked a stern look in his eyes. Deku and Uraraka both looked at each other nodded and then looked back at Iida.

"Of course we do" they said in unison knowing full well they intended on messing around a little just to wind up their friend.

"Good then I shall see you later for our assignment I'm going to run ahead to go have a shower" Iida ran off waving goodbye to them. Deku and Uraraka both looked at each other.

"We're not actually gonna take it as seriously as he's expecting us to are we?" Uraraka asked.

"No of course we're not besides I had my fingers crossed" Deku said revealing his crossed fingers he'd been hiding behind his back.

"Same!" Uraraka said revealing her crossed fingers causing the two to burst out into laughter all over again. They continued to walk back to the dorm only a couple of minutes away now when Deku finally realised he was alone at last with Uraraka.

"Hey did you hear about what's happening next Saturday?" Deku asked.

"Next Saturday? Oh yeah isn't the school privately booking an entire bar out for us?" Uraraka replied.

"Yeah apparently they're going to do it for one night each for each individual class to help them celebrate all the hard work they've done so far and to loosen up a little and our night is next Saturday. Not that any of us can have alcohol or anything but it should be fun right?" Deku said slowly getting to his point.

"I guess that explains why we've got so much work and so many tests over this next week they don't want us to start slacking off just because there's an incentive for our hard work huh? Anyway Deku pretty much everybody knows this already so get to the point what's bothering you?" Uraraka questioned not knowing where he was going with this.

"Well I was just wondering if maybe you'd like to...go together?" Deku asked twiddling with his fingers in his hands because of how nervous he was right now.

"Yeah of course we're going together we're friends" Uraraka stated not quite understanding what Deku was asking.

"No I mean together as in...as in a...a date kind of thing. I've been meaning to ask you since I found out but we haven't had a chance to talk alone since the pool date so I wanted to ask now while I have the chance" Deku said slowly getting embarrassed the more he spoke. Uraraka was at least sharing in his embarrassment now that she understood what he was asking.

"Deku I'm so sorry I can't believe I didn't understand what you were asking me" she said very apologetically.

"Sooo?...." Deku asked still waiting for an answer terrified she'd shoot him down for some reason.

"Yes Deku. I'd like that" Uraraka replied extremely happy that Deku had actually had the confidence to ask her out and at the same time she was getting nervous about this date already.

"That's great!" Deku exclaimed unable to hide his excitement making Uraraka smile.

"Come on let's get back to the dorm we both need a shower before doing that assignment which we're both gonna take super seriously" she said very sarcastically giggling a little at her own joke.

"Yeah let's otherwise Iida is gonna get mad at us for not taking our school work seriously" Deku chuckled. As they continued to walk they laughed and joked about how serious Iida gets and how intense he can be sometimes soon arriving back at the dorm. Suddenly fatigue kicked in and they were exhausted.

"Who's idea was it to go and haul scrap around all day anyway?" Uraraka asked exhausted from the morning of exercise she had done.

"Um...you and Iida had that bright idea Uraraka" Deku said to rub salt in her wounds.

"Hey no we said we were gonna do your workout we just didn't realise that meant dragging fridges around" Uraraka said getting defensive denying this was her own doing.

"Uraraka I showed you my workout plan yesterday and you both agreed to it" Deku reminded her.

"I did? I'm so stupid. This really is my own fault isn't it I should never have agreed to it I'm so tired I might fall asleep before we do the assignment" Uraraka said almost falling asleep on her feet.

"Hey you better not leave me to fend for myself against Mr uptight" Deku joked hoping to keep his friend awake. It got a laugh out of her.

"Ok ok sorry I won't leave you all by yourself and like I said I'm taking it super seriously" she said extremely sarcastically again.

"Good well I'll see you later I'm gonna have a shower" Deku said bidding her farewell now that they had reached his room. Before he entered though he looked around to make sure the coast was clear.

"Hm? Deku what's up?" Uraraka asked confused by his behaviour. Suddenly he kissed her cheek making her let out a small yelp of surprise but it was a pleasant surprise to her. She touched her cheek where he'd kissed her not quite believing he'd had the nerve to do it. Beginning to blush she tried to cover her face to hide how flustered she was getting.

"You never gave me the chance to do it back after our date and I've been wanting to return the gesture" Deku said embarrassed but happy he'd done it.

Deku kissed me?...oh my god Deku kissed me! What's wrong with you say something he's gonna think he did something wrong!

"Oh I....um.... Deku I don't know what to say"  she told him not knowing how to respond to this act of affection.

"You don't have to say anything it's fine I just wanted to do it back. Anyway I should probably go get that shower now. See you later for the assignment?" Deku asked.

"Yeah I'll be there" Uraraka replied still a little in shock that Deku had kissed her.

"Ok cool I'll see you there" Deku said opening the door to his room but before he could close it Uraraka jammed her foot in the doorway to stop him.

"Uraraka?" He asked confused.

"I...I just...I just wanted to....to say I'm really looking forward to next Saturday Deku. It'll be fun" she said unable to bring herself to do what she had planned to do.

"Yeah me too. Now come on go shower or Iida will kill us" Deku ordered snapping her out of the state of shock she was still in.

"R-right I'll see you there" she replied bidding him farewell before running off up the stairs to her own room. She slammed the door behind her and fell to the floor head in her hands.

"Why?...why couldn't I do it?" She said aloud to herself frustrated she hadn't been able to act on her feelings.

I could've done it there and then. It was the perfect moment. I could've let him know how I felt about him. Wait he probably already knows doesn't he? It's so obvious at this point that we like each other we've already been on one date together and now we've both kissed each other's cheek it's so clear we have feelings for each other so why can't we just say it or act on it. I was going to kiss him. Properly this time. One kiss on the lips to let him know how I felt and that I wanted him to be more than just a friend but I couldn't do it. I want to be Deku's girlfriend I'm not going to deny these feelings or hide them away anymore I have to show him how I feel but how? I couldn't kiss him and I don't think I could ever actually say it I'd get too nervous...wait I have an idea. I can sing it on our date at the party I just have to choose the right song. It's gonna be difficult in front of our entire class though.

"Why do I feel like I'm upside down?" Uraraka said aloud after having her bright idea. She moved her hands away from her face realising she'd made herself float after being lost in her thoughts and flustered from Deku's kiss.

"Release" she said while doing the hand sign to deactivate her quirk sending her crashing down onto her bed.

I'll tell you how I really feel on our date Deku. I just hope that you want the same thing that I do.
