Chapter 9: Uraraka's 'confession'

16:28, 13 September 2019

This is it Uraraka you've been waiting all week for this. You chose the perfect song it's all about needing a hero and all Deku's ever wanted to be is a hero so this should work perfectly. I'm so nervous though it's terrifying doing this in front of everyone yet I'm excited at the same time. How do I make sure Deku knows I'm singing about him?...wait I've got it.

She looked up at Deku making eye contact with him. He was still smiling at her causing her to smile back. If she kept this eye contact up for a majority of the song and especially for the chorus he'd get the message. Or at least she hoped he would anyway.

Let's do this.

The music started playing and Uraraka didn't break eye contact with Deku as she began to sing.

"Where have all the good men goneAnd where are all the gods?Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?Late at night I toss and I turnAnd I dream of what I need

I need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the nightHe's gotta be strongAnd he's gotta be fastAnd he's gotta be fresh from the fightI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning lightHe's gotta be sureAnd it's gotta be soonAnd he's gotta be larger than life!Larger than life

Somewhere after midnightIn my wildest fantasySomewhere just beyond my reachThere's someone reaching back for meRacing on the thunder and rising with the heatIt's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the nightHe's gotta be strongAnd he's gotta be fastAnd he's gotta be fresh from the fightI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning lightHe's gotta be sureAnd it's gotta be soonAnd he's gotta be larger than lifeI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night

Up where the mountains meet the heavens aboveOut where the lightning splits the seaI could swear there is someone, somewhereWatching meThrough the wind, and the chill, and the rainAnd the storm, and the floodI can feel his approach like a fire in my blood

I need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the nightHe's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fastAnd he's gotta be fresh from the fightI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning lightHe's gotta be sureAnd it's gotta be soonAnd he's gotta be larger than lifeI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the nightHe's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fastAnd he's gotta be fresh from the fightI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning lightHe's gotta be sureAnd it's gotta be soonAnd he's gotta be larger than lifeI need a heroI'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night"

I...I did it. I actually did it.

She let the music play out and when it stopped everyone burst into applause and cheers and whoops. Even the girls behind her who were now surrounding her.

"Uraraka that was amazing" Asui said.

"Yeah I had no idea you were such a good singer" Hagakure chimed in.

"I know right I'm so jealous" Ashido whined.

"Not bad girl not bad" Jiro added with the smallest hint of a smile.

"You seem like you really put your heart into that one Uraraka" Yaoyorozu said embracing the much smaller girl in front of her.

"Thanks Yaoyorozu" Uraraka said.

"Did it work?" She whispered into her ear. Uraraka looked back to her table. She'd managed not to break eye contact with Deku once for the whole song and she had seen him getting redder in the face the longer it went on so she was sure it had worked. Her eyes found him through the crowd of cheering students in front of her. He was still sat in his chair seemingly unable to move and was the only one not cheering or applauding. However when he looked up and made eye contact with Uraraka he quickly looked away and got up from his seat heading to the boys toilets but for that split second Uraraka had seen the look in his eyes. Her plan had worked Deku understood perfectly. Now all she had to do was wait for him to process it as she assumed that was why he was going to the bathroom.

"Yes it worked" Uraraka whispered back tearing up and burying her face in Yaoyorozu's shoulder allowing herself to cry while nobody could see her in the swarm of girls around her. They were tears of relief and joy though. After waiting all week and being so paranoid her plan wouldn't work she'd pulled it off. Now it was just up to Deku.

She....she....I can't believe she..... Uraraka just...I can't think...my heartbeat is in overdrive... I'm so happy yet so scared...was she really singing about me? Yes of course she was she was staring into my very soul as she sang. Now what do I do? Uraraka made the first move I can't ask to talk to her outside that's pathetic after what she just did.

"YOUNG MIDORIYA!" All Might bellowed for the second time tonight as he entered the bathroom.

"AAAAHHHHH!" Deku screamed completely taken by surprise yet again but this time it was because he'd been so lost in his own thoughts staring at himself in the mirror red faced and sweating but for some reason smiling uncontrollably.

"All Might you've gotta stop doing that" Deku begged.

"I apologize. Is anyone else in here?" The number one hero asked.

"No just us" Deku replied. Hearing this All Might allowed himself to take a break from his muscle form.

"Young man I hope you saw what I saw out there" he said.

"Yeah I saw it All Might. How could I not she wouldn't break eye contact with me" Deku replied.

"Exactly! I don't believe it just as I'd convinced you to do something about your emotions the girl got up there and did that! Unbelievable. She must've been waiting to do that all week" All Might said unable to contain his excitement.

"All week? Really?" Deku asked oblivious to the fact that she clearly knew what she was doing. Asking the girls to be her backup singers, locking eyes with him, she knew what song she was going to sing she didn't even hesitate or think about it she just went straight to the screen and chose the song she wanted.

"You truly are naïve sometimes young man" All Might said. Now that Deku thought about it she did seem like she knew what she was doing the whole time.

"Yeah I guess it makes sense thinking about it. What do I do now though? I can't just tell her that's not good enough after she just did that in front of everybody" Deku asked desperate for advice. By this point they could hear someone else singing a song but they couldn't tell who.

"Isn't it obvious young Midoriya? You have to choose a song to sing that lets her know you feel the same way. It's just like she said in her song 'I need a hero' so think of a song that let's her know that you can be that hero for her" All Might said.

He's right I've gotta sing a song to her now too. But what song?

Somebody else was singing now. That's two people that have sung after Uraraka. Deku was hoping for a few more so it wasn't obvious when he sang that he was responding to Uraraka's song.

"All Might I've got it" Deku said all of the sudden.

"Well what song is it?" All Might asked. Deku informed him of his song choice and what he was going to do. As he did another two people had been up to sing a song. That was four now.

"Brilliant young man. Truly brilliant" All Might wiped a tear from his eyes.

"Are you crying?" Deku asked.

"Is it a crime to cry? If I'm gonna cry young man then I shall cry but no I'm not so stop looking at me like that" All Might demanded.

"Ok whatever you say. You go back out there and I'll wait a few minutes before I come back out" Deku said.

"Alright but don't wait too long you've been in here for at least 10 minutes already" All Might said transforming back into his muscular form before heading back out the door. Deku studied himself in the mirror for a second.

"You've got this" he said to himself staring at his own reflection. With that he headed back out the door and back to his seat at his table.

"Deku! Finally your name got drawn while you were in there" Uraraka told him seeing him approach the table.

"Everyone Midoriya is back!" Iida shouted over everyone causing them all to turn and face him cheering.

"Well go on it's your turn" Todoroki said. Deku paused for a moment before heading towards the stage. He leaned over to Uraraka and whispered something into her ear. Whatever it was made her go red and put a huge smile on her face.

Is he...is he going to...oh my god he is I don't believe it!

Deku walked onto the stage and stood before his class in front of the microphone.

"Uraraka what did Midoriya say to you?" Iida asked curious.

"Oh he just said he hoped his singing was as good as mine was" she lied.

He didn't say that at all but I can't tell them what he really said... because he said...he said..."this one's for you"...

Deku closed his eyes as the music began knowing he wouldn't be able to keep eye contact with Uraraka like she'd done with him. That's why he'd told her before he got on stage that this song was for her. With his eyes sealed tight he grabbed the microphone in front of him and began to sing...

Hope you're enjoying it thank you for over 100 reads already that's amazing!

Of course the song Uraraka sang was Bonnie Tyler's "Holding out for a hero" I thought that was a really good idea considering what song Deku is going to sing in response but you'll have to wait and see what it is.
