Chapter 7
07:51, 26 May 2024Olivia woke up one to hear banging. It was 7:30 am on a Saturday. She sighed.
"Brandon wake you up?" Callie asked, from the other bed.
Olivia picked up her phone. "You too?" She typed.
Callie nodded. "Well, we're up now." She said.
Olivia nodded.
The two climbed out of bed and headed downstairs. They could hear other voices in the kitchen.
"Good morning, girls." Stef greeted.
The girls greeted them with a wave and a yawn.
"Brandon, wake you guys up too?" Mariana asked.
"Yeah." Callie replied.
"He's supposed to be wearing his headphones." Lena said.
"Well, we can hear him banging on the keyboards through the walls." Mariana said.
Olivia started making herself some peanut butter toast.
"Oh, Callie. Olivia." Lena said, getting there attention. "Are you guys okay to walk to your support group this afternoon?"
"Yeah." Callie said.
"I'd offer my bike, but there's only room for one." Olivia typed.
"That's okay." Callie said.
"What do you girls have planned for today?" Stef asked.
"I was going to hang out with Wyatt for a bit." Callie said.
"Olivia?" Lena asked.
"I'm going to the school to try out for the swim team." Olivia replied.
"That's great." Stef said.
"I actually better get ready and go." Olivia typed as she quickly finished her breakfast and headed upstairs. She changed into a swimsuit and put a tank top and board shorts on over it. She put on a light jacket and grabbed her swim bag. Lena and Stef had just recently gotten her a bunch of swim stuff. Olivia headed back downstairs to fill her water bottle up. Stef and Lena had gotten a water bottle that stayed cold, so the water wouldn't get warm.
"Hey Olivia." Stef said as she and Lena came up to her. "We're really glad you're getting involved with something." Olivia nodded.
"Good luck, Via." Callie said.
"Thanks." Olivia typed. "I'll see you guys later." She headed out to her bike.
A few minutes later, Olivia arrived at the school and headed inside to the pool area. She set her stuff on a chair and walked to the coach, Mrs. Sanders.
"Olivia, right?" She said.
Olivia nodded. She pulled her phone out. "Just so you know, I don't talk. I use a voice app to talk." She typed. "I'm not deaf, so I can hear when people talk to me."
The coach nodded. "Why don't you go stretch with the team and we'll get your tryout start in a bit."
Olivia nodded and headed over to wear the team was.
"Hi." Olivia heard. She looked over to see a blonde haired girl. A girl. She recognized the girl as she was in some of her classes, but couldn't remember her names. Olivia waved to her.
"You're Olivia, right?" The girl asked.
Olivia nodded.
"I'm Erin." The girl introduced.
"That's right." Olivia thought, remembering her names.
"It's really cool you're trying out for the swim team." Erin said.
Olivia smiled. The whistle blew.
"Good luck." Erin said.
"Thanks." Olivia typed.
"Olivia, practice with the team and we'll see how you do." Coach Sanders instructed.
Olivia nodded. She practiced with the team and did well to keep up with the team. At the end of practice, the coach came up to her.
"I was quite impressed with how well you did today." She said.
"So, did I make the team?" Olivia asked.
"Yes." Coach Sanders replied.
"Thank you so much!" Olivia typed.
"You're welcome." Coach Sanders said. "Practices are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. And meets are Saturdays."
Olivia nodded and went over to her swim bag.
"Hey Olivia." Erin said. "You want to come grab a bite with me?"
"I'm sorry. I can't." Olivia typed. "I have somewhere I need to be."
"That's okay." Erin said. "Maybe another time."
They exchanged numbers and Olivia went to the girls locker room to change out of her swimsuit. When she finished, she went outside to her bike and headed to where her group therapy was. Callie met her there.
"How was the tryout?" Callie asked.
"It was good." Olivia typed. "I made the team."
"That's great, Via!" Callie said, hugging her sister. "I'm proud of you."
"Thanks." Olivia typed. "Now, come on. Before we're late."
They headed inside. During the group therapy, both girls kept quiet. Not saying anything. One girl was talking about her foster family. Olivia wasn't paying much attention until she heard what the girl said.
"I think the Olmsteads really think of me as part of their family." The girl said.
Olivia looked up. She and Callie exchanged a look with each other.
"That's all for today." The therapist said. "Maybe next time we can all share." She glanced at Olivia and Callie.
"I'm going to head home." Olivia typed as everyone dispersed.
"Why don't we talk to that girl for a bit." Callie said.
Olivia gave her a "Are you crazy?" look, but Callie ignored her. She walked over to the girl and Olivia just followed. They found out the girl's name was Sarah. She talked about the Olmsteads. Sarah mentioned that there was an older boy, who had graduated from high school. The conversation was going fine, until Callie screwed up.
"One time when we we're playing mini-golf, he missed the hole and broke the club in half." Sarah said.
"Wait, who?" Callie asked. "Liam or his Dad?"
Olivia glared at Callie. Sarah hadn't said anything about the boy's name being Liam. Callie tried covering her tracks.
"Who are you guys?" Sarah asked.
"Sarah, wait." Callie said. "Let us explain."
"No. Leave me alone." Sarah said.
Olivia took that as her cue to leave. She hopped on her bike and left. When Callie got home, she found Olivia in their room.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked.
Olivia shook her head. They hung out with Mariana for a bit. Callie mentioned Wyatt was having a party and Mariana wanted to go. She had convinced Callie to go, but Olivia didn't want to go.
"Come on, Olivia." Mariana said. "It'll be fun."
"I'm good." Olivia said. "You guys have fun."
"So, what are you going to do then?" Callie asked.
"I'll figure something out." Olivia typed. She then got an idea and texted Erin.
Afterwards, she headed downstairs. The girls were asking if they could go to Wyatt's.
"Are you going too, Olivia?" Lena asked.
"No. I was going to ask if I could have a little of money for pizza?" Olivia typed. "I'm meeting up with a girl I met at the swim tryout."
"How was the tryout?" Stef asked.
"I made the team." Olivia typed.
"That's great, Olivia." Lena said.
"Here's some money." Stef said, handing her cash. "Just have your phone with you in case we need to get ahold of you."
Olivia nodded, taking the money.
A little bit later, Olivia met up with Erin at a small pizza shack. Erin was there with a guy.
"Hey Olivia." Erin greeted. "This is my stepbrother, Adam."
"It's nice to meet you, Olivia." Adam greeted.
"You too." Olivia typed. They walked inside, ordered some sodas, a pepperoni pizza to share.
"So, how are you liking Anchor Beach?" Erin asked.
"It's a great school." Olivia typed. "Definitely the best school I've been to."
"It's definitely nice that's it's right next to a beach." Adam added.
"Yeah. I've never been to a school right next to a beach." Olivia typed. "And I've been to a lot."
"How many have you been to?" Erin asked.
"Seven within six years." Olivia typed. "My siblings and I are foster kids, so we've moved around a lot."
"I'm sorry." Adam said. "That can't be easy. Moving around so much."
"It is what it is." Olivia said. "I don't get much say in it."
"So, my sister told me you joined the swim team." Adam said, changing the subject. "That's really cool."
"Thanks." Olivia said. "I'm going to get a milkshake." She walked up to the counter to order.
"Hey, Livy." She heard.
Olivia stopped in her tracks. She mainly went by Liv or Via. Only one person called her Livy.
"Liam." She thought.
Olivia slowly turned around to see Liam standing behind her.
"I heard you ran into a friend of mine today." Liam said.
Olivia nodded.
All of a sudden, Liam pushed her up the wall. "Stay away from Sarah." He threatened. "Understand?"
Olivia tried to get away from him, but couldn't.
"Answer me!" Liam continued.
Olivia desperately tried to keep the tears from escaping. "
Is there a problem here?" Adam asked.
"Who are you?" Liam asked. "Her boyfriend?"
"Who wants to know?" Adam continued. "Now, get away from her before I call the police for harassment."
Liam looked at Olivia before storming out of the place.
"Are you okay?" Adam asked.
Olivia looked at him, before rushing outside.
"Olivia, wait!" Adam and Erin called, following her.
"What just happened?" Erin asked. "Who was that?"
"No one." Olivia typed. "I'm just going to head home."
"Let us take you home." Adam said. "We can put your bike in the trunk."
Olivia nodded.
