Chapter 5

04:34, 26 March 2023

One night, everyone was sitting at the dinner table.

"So, Callie. Olivia." Mariana started. "You know my friend, Kelsie?"

"The one that falsely accused us of selling the pills at schools?" Callie asked.

"Yeah well, her parents are sending her to rehab." Mariana continued. "So, I was wondering if you two would want to join my court for my quinceañera."

"If you only need one more person for your court, why are you asking both of us?" Olivia asked on her voice app.

"Well, if you both want to do it I'd be fine with it." Mariana said.

"I appreciate the offer, but I'll pass." Olivia typed. "If that's alright."

"That's fine." Stef said. "Callie?"

"Uh. Sure." Callie said.

"We'll just have to get a dress fitted for you before the party." Lena said.

Later that evening, Olivia had finished her homework and was deciding what to do with the rest of the evening. She looked outside and saw a basketball on the grass. She went outside and started shooting hoops.

Inside, Stef and Lena heard the noise.

"Is that Brandon shooting hoops again?" Stef asked.

"No, it's Olivia." Lena answered.

"Do you get the feeling that she doesn't trust us."

"Maybe we should talk to Callie." Stef suggested. They went Callie's room, who was working on homework. "Hey Callie." Stef started. "Could we ask you something?"

"Sure." Callie said.

"Um. Is Olivia alright?" Lena asked.

Callie sighed. "I think part of her just doesn't trust you guys yet. And it doesn't have to do with you guys personally." She explained. "The last couple of foster homes haven't been the best and then she ended in juvie for something she didn't do. I think it's just been overwhelming for her."

"Well, thank you for telling us." Stef said.

"Where is she?" Callie asked.

"Outside shooting hoops." Lena replied. Callie nodded.

"We're going to go talk to her." Stef said. The two adults headed outside.

"Hey Olivia." Lena said.

Olivia looked up. She picked up her phone. "I'm sorry. I know it's late, but I saw the basketball out here." She typed.

"It's alright." Stef said. "Come sit." Olivia sat on a bench with them.

"We understand that what you, Callie, and Jude have been through couldn't have been easy." Lena started. "And we're truly sorry for automatically believing that you and Callie sold the pills. We shouldn't have automatically assumed."

"And we know that coming to a new foster home can be overwhelming. We want you to know that you're safe here. And we've already said this, but we really would like to earn your trust." Stef added on. "Even if it takes awhile. You take as long as you need to."

Olivia nodded. "Mariana's not upset that I didn't want to be in her court, is she?" she asked.

"No. If you're not comfortable with it, it's completely fine." Lena said. "It's getting late. Come on back inside." Olivia nodded again and went inside.

When they all went inside, there was a woman talking with Callie, Jude, Mariana, and Jesus. They looked up at them.

"Olivia, this is my Mom, Dana." Lena introduced. "Mom, this is Olivia. Callie and Jude's sister."

"It's wonderful to meet you, Olivia." Dana greeted.

"It's nice to meet you too." Olivia typed. "If it's alright, I'm just going to head up to bed."

"That's fine." Stef said. "Good night."

"Goodnight." Olivia typed before going up to bed.

The next morning, Olivia woke up and climbed out of bed.

"Morning, Liv." Callie said.

"Morning Cal." Olivia typed. "So, what was all that commotion with you and Mariana a few nights ago?"

"I thought she read my journal." Callie replied.

"Why would it matter if she read your journal?" Olivia asked.

"I wrote about Liam." Callie answered.

"You wrote about Liam?" Olivia asked. Callie nodded. "What makes you think she read it?" Olivia asked.

"Because my journal was moved from where I had placed it." Callie explained. "But, I realized it wasn't Mariana that touched it. It was Talya."

Olivia was now caught up. "So, when she suggested the name Liam for Jude's thing." She started.

"She was trying to get a reaction out of me." Callie finished.

"Why did she read your journal?" Olivia asked.

"She thinks I have a thing for Brandon and doesn't trust me." Callie answered.

"Do you?" Olivia asked.

"No. Of course not." Callie said. "I know that foster siblings aren't allowed to date." Olivia nodded. "Come on. Let's head downstairs for breakfast." Callie said. The two sisters went downstairs.

"Good morning, girls." Stef greeted. "How are you two this morning?"

"We're good." Callie replied.

"What smells so good?" Olivia asked.

"My famous chocolate chip pancakes." Dana answered.

"You really didn't have to make breakfast, Mom." Lena said.

"Well, of course I didn't have to." Dana said. "I wanted to."

"I'll get the juice out." Olivia said.

"Thank you, Olivia." Stef said.

Soon, everyone else came downstairs and they all ate breakfast.

Once everyone finished, they all got ready for the party. Olivia changed into a light blue casual dress and flats. She finished by doing her hair and makeup before heading back downstairs.

"You look very pretty, Olivia." Lena complimented."

"Thank you." Olivia said.

"Come on. Let's go!" Stef called.

"Alright, we're coming." Jesus said as he came down the stairs.

"You, my birthday boy, look very dashing." Lena said.

"Of course I do." Jesus said.

"Are you always so full of yourself?" Olivia asked.

"Yes he is." Stef said.

"Hey!" Jesus said. Olivia giggled.

Once everyone was ready, they all headed to the party venue. Olivia was in a room with Callie, Mariana, and Lexi. Lexi handed Mariana a gift. It was a scrapbook photo album.

"Did you make this?" Mariana asked.

"It was nothing." Lexi said.

"Where did you get this picture?" Mariana asked.

"You're Moms." Lexi answered as she showed Callie and Olivia the picture. "She was obsessed with Belle when we were little." Callie laughed.

"What?" Mariana asked.

"Oh nothing." Callie said. "You and Olivia just have more in common than you probably thought."

"What do you mean?" Lexie asked.

"I was also obsessed with Belle when I was little." Olivia replied.

"She dressed up as Belle for Halloween three years in a row." Callie explained. "Our Mom finally convinced to dress as something else the fourth year." They all laughed. Lena then came in.

"I'm going to go get everyone together." Lexie said.

"Me too." Callie said.

Olivia followed them out of the room and went over to the table that Jude was sitting at. The DJ started talking announcing the court. The siblings noticed that Callie came out with Lexi's escort instead of Brandon, but Callie and Brandon did the waltz together.

Once the waltz ended, everyone was invited to dance.

"Come on." Olivia said before pulling Jude towards the dance floor.

"Noo." Jude said.

Olivia ignored him and lead him towards the dance floor.

After a little bit, a girl Jude's age come up to them. "Excuse me." She said. "Would you like to dance?" Jude didn't say anything.

"She's not talking to me." Olivia typed into her notes instead of her voice app, so the girl wouldn't know what she said. "Go." She then walked back to the table that Callie, Lena, and Stef were at.

"Hey, you're not upset that I mentioned Mom earlier, are you?" Callie asked, softly. Olivia shook her head.

Since the accident, the Jacobs siblings never spoke much about their parents.

"I still find it funny that Mariana and I were both obsessed with Belle." Olivia said.

"Yeah." Callie agreed.

"What are you guys talking about?" Stef asked.

Olivia relayed the story that Callie had told Lexie and Mariana earlier. The two adults laughed.

"That's cute." Lena said.

When they party ended, they all helped clean up and headed back to the house.
