Chapter 33

04:11, 28 March 2016

"I can't do it! I'm not going!" I paced outside of Abigail's bedroom door, sweating, as I waited for the boys.

"Abigail, please unlock the door. We need to get to the hospital. The doctor said when contractions happen every 5 to 6 minutes." I've been trying to reason with her for over an hour now. I heard her scream again as she went through another contraction. "Abigail please! You're only hurting yourself!"

"I'm fine! I can wait till the morning!" She shouted back, her voice sharp and pain stricken.

I heard the front door open and then Louis and Liam running up the stairs. "It took you lads long enough. She won't come out. She wants to wait till the morning." I had exhausted all my tactics, said everything there was to say.

"Niall, you didn't think this would be easy would you? She's 17 years old and scared out of her mind. Of course she doesn't want to go!" Liam laughed, but not a happy laugh. A tired one because he knew this wasn't going to be easy.

"Abigail, it's Louis. Can we at least come in to keep you company? You shouldn't be sitting in there alone." Louis' voice echoed through the door but there was no answer. We sat there for a few minutes before we heard another cry of pain.

"She's not going to let us in." Liam sighed. "So we're going to have to break in."

"Abigail where are you in your room?" I asked her, leaning up against the door with my shoulder.

"Bed." Her voice was barely audible but that was all I needed to hear before I rammed my shoulder into the door and it popped off the hinges.

Abigail was laid down in her bed, her hair sticking to her forehead from sweat. "See was that so hard?" I sighed walking over to her on the bed. She laid there, her breathing rapid and heavy. I knew if she didn't get to the hospital soon something bad would happen. To her or the baby.

"Abigail, I promise you this won't be as bad as you think. I know it's scary but we're going to be with you the whole time. Please, for the sake of your baby, we need to go now."

I watched as her face scrunched up in pain, another contraction. They were barely 3 minutes apart now. We were cutting it close. It was getting to the part where she couldn't talk through them, that's when the doctor said we had to get to the hospital immediately.

I reached over and grabbed her slippers and put them on her feet, helping her sit up. Getting her downstairs and to the car was not easy and it certainly drew alot of attention when she screamed.

Louis sat with her in the back of the car, her body sweating as her breath was ragged. Tears streaming down her face as she kept crying out in pain.

"You're going to have a baby so soon." I could hear Louis trying to calm her down as Liam drove to the hospital. I was a nervous wreck. I had no idea how this was going to turn out.

The doctor said there could be complications with her age, her past especially with all the hard drugs she's done.

I was just hoping that she'd be able to pull through and that the baby would too. These 9 months went by so fast. We were able to change the spare room into the nursery and it came out beautiful. I didn't even pay for any of it, Abigail didn't want any of my money.

She's been getting a lot of money off of Ed's song, a lot.

We had a couple scares with her uncle, well not really her uncle. Some deluded stalker fan who found out about the story was slipping notes and packages by the house which only added to Abigail's stress.

When we got to the hospital a nurse helped us and we were in a room within 5 minutes. I looked around, there were only a few people in the lobby. It was 11 o'clock at night.

"Okay, we're going to prep her so you guys can wait out here and when we're done two of you can come in." The nurse told us as we tried to step in the room.

"I think we should come i-"

"Sir, I know what I'm doing. Trust me, it's easier if it happens this way." She shut us out and we paced over to a little lobby, all plopping down in the seats.

I rested my head between my legs, letting out a deep breath.

"Your first kid?" I looked over to see an older man, maybe in his 50.

"Uh, no not exactly. A friend's baby." I told him, breathing to relieve some of my anxiety.

"Ah, I see. Just as nervous though." He chuckled, sipping from his coffee cup.

"Do you have someone here having a baby?" I asked, just trying to be nice. I needed a distraction.

"Yeah, I guess. My niece, so I guess this will be my great niece." He smiled down at me.

"That's nice, congratulations. Hope all goes well." I gave him a firm handshake before diverting my gaze over to the other boys.

"You doing okay?" Liam asked draping his arm over my shoulders. I nodded falling into his side as the nurse came out. "You and Louis go in, I don't do good with... births." Liam told me, patting my back.

I walked into the room and Abigail had wires in her arms and an oxygen mask over her face. "Hey." I smiled, grabbing a hold of her hand. "It's gonna be okay." She just looked up at me, her eyes all red and glossed over. I hope it was going to be.

It was about another 3 hours before a doctor was needed and there were a ton of nurses constantly fixing something as Abigail fluctuated between stable and unstable.

"Hello abigail, I'm doctor Amelia, I'm going to be helping you today. Now I know in movies they tell you to push really hard but today I'm going to need you to take it kind of easy. You're body isn't that strong, not as strong as it should be. A wrong move could be really bad."

Abigail nodded her head as they moved the bed up so she was sitting up right. "Okay, now go ahead and grab his hand. I'm going to need you to squeeze it really hard and push. Only push when I say so though." I could tell the doctors voice was calming her down.

She pushed for about 4 hours, off and on. Who knew birth took so long. You'd think after being in there for 9 months they'd be ready to come out.

"You're doing great, you're almost there." My hand was just about numb from pain as Abigail screamed and squeezed it, her body covered in sweat. It literally sounded like she was being murdered.

"Oh Abigail, I see a head. Come on honey, only a few more pushes." Abigail looked over at me, her face completely red, her hair a matted mess. Gosh, I would never wish this kind of pain on a child. Any of the pain she's been through, no one should have to endure that.

The pain she's still going through. Living in constant fear of her uncle and being a single teen mom to the baby created by a rapist.

I heard a loud cry but it wasn't from Abigail. The doctor pulled out the baby, the nurses quickly swaddling it and cutting the umbilical cord. I looked over at Louis as Abigail let go of our hands, falling back into the bed. She was pale now, no longer red.

She looked over at me and her eyes were droopy, her head rolling back and forth before she slouched over. A nurse rushed over and propped her up, tapping her cheeks. "Don't worry. This happens a lot, she'll come back in a minute." She assured us as she reclined the bed and brought some water over.

Abigail slowly came to, the nurse forcing her water through a straw. "There ya go. It's tiring, huh?" The nurse giggled, wiping the hair from Abbys face. Abigail smiled, a smile I haven't seen in a few weeks. "You wanna see your baby I bet."

Abigail nodded and slowly sat up. The nurse brought over the little bundle of baby and placed it down int Abby's arms.

"You've got yourself a little girl." The nurse smiled, stepping back. The baby was beautiful. She had a lot of hair, little tuffs of brown. Abby looked so happy, looking down at this baby.

"Hello beautiful." She cooed, grabbing her little hand.

"You've got a name?" Louis asked, his hand cupping the baby's head.

"Mh, I think I like storm."

"Storm? Yeah?" Louis chuckled but Abigail just nodded and smiled down at her baby.

"I for one like it. Congratulations." I kissed the top of her head and then Storm's. "She's gonna be a hell raiser just like her mom, I can already tell."

"I could only hope for that." Abigail giggled. "Strong willed and taking no one's shit."

"Hey! Language!" I scolded Abigail.

She just looked up at me and rolled her eyes. "Niall, I have a kid, I think I can say shit."

"You're kids first word is gonna be a cuss. Watch it." I pointed my finger at her but she just laughed it off, as always.

"Can you go get me some ice chips?" Abigail asked and I nodded, leaving the room. I saw the guy and he looked up at me, giving me a grim smile.

"How'd it go?"

"It went well, thank you!" I grinned going to get some ice chips. When I came back, he was no longer sitting there.

It wasn't until then that I noticed all the other rooms on the floor had no women going into labor, just ours.
