'enemies at what cost?'

ni-ki's pov

I woke up with an intense headache. It was horrible. I couldn't remember anything that happened last night. I blinked hard and noticed no one next to me.

'Jake must've woken up.' I thought.

I washed my face and woke up a little bit and then headed downstairs.

I smelled something really good coming from the kitchen.

"Mmm.. that smell." I said coming down the stairs.

"Good morning." Sunghoon said.

"Morning." I said rubbing my head.

"Hey Jay do you have any-"I got cut off.

"Painkillers? In the cabinet to your right." Jay pointed.

"Thanks." I said opening the cabinet and taking some pills out.

I sipped my water and sat down on a chair next to Heeseung.

"What do you wanna eat?" Jungwon asked me.

"Uhh.. I don't know.. cereal?" I said scratching the back off my head.

"Okay well there's cereal over there and there's milk in the fridge. So go help yourself." Jungwon said.

"Ughh.. fine." I said.

I headed over to the cereal and picked out coco pops.

I walked over to the fridge but y/n was already there.

She took the milk out and used it to pour milk into her cereal.

She finished using it eventually, and was about to place it into the fridge.

"Hey- can you pass me the milk?" I asked.

"No. Get your own." She said coldly placing the milk in the fridge, slamming the fridge door.

She walked over with her cereal bowl and sat down next to Sunoo.

'What's her deal?' I thought.

I just ignored whatever happened and took out the milk and poured it into my cereal.

I sat down next to Sunghoon again and was across from Sunoo, Jungwon and Y/n.

I started munching down on my cereal until Jungwon pointed out something.

"Oh? You two are eating the same cereal!" He said pointing at me and y/n.

Y/n looked up at me disgusted and then she looked frustrated.

"I'll be getting ready." She said in an annoyed tone while heading upstairs.

She walked upstairs into the bathroom.

"Woah. What's with her this morning?" Sunghoon said taken aback by her behaviour.

"Uhh.. I don't know.. maybe it's that time of the month?" Jungwon said.

"Yikes.. girls don't like when you blame their emotions on that you know?" Sunoo said.

"And you know this how?" Jay asked.

"I have a sister dumbass." Sunoo said taking a bite of his waffle.

The guys just sighed and brushed past her moodiness this morning.

'Why was she so mad at me?' I thought.

After a couple of minutes Heeseung excused himself.

"Guys.. maybe it's better if I check up on her. You know.. she's in a house full of guys and she's not too happy right now." Heeseung explained.

"You're right. Go check up." Jay said.

Heeseung nodded and my eyes just followed his figure going upstairs.

'Hm. I wonder if Heeseung likes her?' I scoffed thinking to myself.

'Ugh why do I care?!' I thought to myself grasping my face in my hands.

'It's been ages Riki! Snap out of it!' I thought to myself.

After quite some time the guys cleaned up breakfast and Heeseung and Y/n came back downstairs laughing together.

"Hahaha.. actually??" Y/n said.

"Yeah! You need to come next time! And we have to take a lot of photos together." Heeseung said.

"Oh what's this, what's this?" Jungwon said.

"She's in a good mood?" Sunghoon said.

"Yeah.. Uhm.. sorry guys about earlier." Y/n apologised.

"I shouldn't have stormed off like that without explaining." She explained

"It's fine. You're better now right? You just needed some time to cool off. Relax!" Jake said.

"Thanks guys. I'm sorry to all of you." She said as the guys just kept cleaning up the place.

Then looked at me after saying that and mouthed 'Except you.' She glared at me.

I was taken aback.

'What's up with her today?..' I thought.

'Shit. I was drunk yesterday... did something.. happen?' I thought.

The next couple of days were really weird at school.

It was nearing summer break but it felt weirdly cold.

Y/n was being her friendly weird self to everyone else but to me, she was ice cold.

Anytime we made eye contact, she'd glare at me. Anytime she'd be talking to someone and I come along, she'd go quiet.

I didn't know what happened when I was drunk but I had a feeling I must've said something stupid.

Or.. something about our past...

'Nah. I'm not that stupid to bring it up. Even when I'm drunk I have my senses.'

I shrugged it off.

2 weeks pass and she's still acting as if I'm her enemy.

It was one week left until school ended for summer break.

At this point me and her were enemies. She had no reason to hate me.

She just became cold and started treating me likeI'm a shadow.

We'd argue infront of our friends a lot. To the point they'd just figured there was no solving that. We were just labelled 'Double-Ki enemies'.

Stupid right? My name merged with her stupid one.

Riki, Nanaki. You get it.

We were even known at our school that we were enemies.

From the start I didn't like her. Because, she hated me. At some point she was alright.

I'm still hiding it.

Hiding our promise.

And hiding who I am.

Once she finds out she won't be my enemy, but my killer. She'll be livid.

I could never bring myself to tell her the truth....on why I disappeared.

When I first saw her again I thought my heart was gonna burst.

She didn't recognise me however.

I changed my name and became 10x taller. I was much more attractive now.

I kept my distance but now she fully hates me. Why? I don't know.

I was sitting in English just reading my notes and trying to answer them. English isn't my strong subject. I'm already learning Korean.

Learning another language is hard!

"Ni-Ki, could you read out passage 5?" My teacher asked me.

'Uh oh.' I thought.

"Sorry sir what page are we on?" I asked.

"Really Ni-Ki? After summer you're about to be in the oldest year group in school. And you can't even keep track with the pages?!" Mr Kim yelled at me.

He was about to complain some more but there was a knock on the door.

"Come in." Mr Kim said to the person.

'Ugh great. Her.' I thought.

"Sorry to interrupt sir- I have your printouts you asked for." Y/n said handing the papers over to him.

"Thank you y/n." Mr Kim said taking the papers from her.

"Okay I'll be taking my leave." She bowed and was about to exit.

"Actually could you do me a favour and answer this question?" Mr Kim asked her.

The class murmured.

"But she's a year younger." Some kids whispered.

"He's making her do those questions?" Some girl whispered.

"Stop that's so mean of him!" Another girl whispered.

"Yes, I'll try my best." She said grabbing the chalk in her hand.

"Uhh.. Jaeyun-ssi. Please read out passage 5 and then the question after." Mr Kim asked Jake.

Jake started speaking English, I didn't understand anything at all.

"What was the passage about?" Jake finished by asking the question in Korean.

Y/n thought for a minute, and then turned around and started writing on the chalkboard.

The whole class silently watch her write on the board in English.

She finished off and placed the chalk down on the shelf.

She stood there with her hands clasped looking down.

"That's.. right." Mr Kim said clapping.

"As expected from a top English student." He said and the class also clapped.

'Mr Kim was CLAPPING? But he's so mean.' I thought.

"See Ni-Ki. You should be really keeping on track. A younger student managed to answer but you couldn't?" Mr Kim said embarrassing me.

I just sighed. And felt my ears become red from embarrassment.

"Excellent work. You may leave now." Mr Kim smiled to y/n and continued with the lesson.

y/n bowed and was about to open the door to leave. But she turned around and looked at me and stuck her tongue out and mouthed 'loser'. She did that and left.

I grit my teeth and clenched my pencil.

"Oof. She's not gonna give you a break man." Jake said patting my back.

"Please. She probably cheats on all of her tests." I said scoffing.

Later at lunch everyone was being their usual selfs and talking about random stuff and just being stupid.

I was glaring at y/n.

'She thinks she's so much better? Please, she couldn't outrun a beetle if she had to.' I scoffed.

She stopped laughing and went to take a bite of her rice bowl.

I watched her eat it. I just looked at her in a disgustingly manner. She was chewing and then she looked up directly at me.

We were sitting directly across from each other this time. Which wasn't a good thing for the others.

"What do you want?!" She mouthed threatening me.

"Ugly." I mouthed back at her.

"Yeah clearly you are. Actually you're worse than that." She mouthed back.

"You wanna go?!" I mouthed at her raising my fist threatening her.

"Bring it on!" She did the same.

I got angrier but before I could do anything I seen her swallow her food and slam her hand on the table, giving some of the guys a fright.

"Hey guys! You wanna know what happened today when I went to give Mr Kim some printouts?" Y/n said faking a sweet smile while looking around the guys.

"Uh.. what happened?" Jay said.

"Oh nothing much.. except for the fact Ni-Ki couldn't answer the most basic bitch question and I had to do it for him!" Y/n said snickering and then bursting out in laughter.

I felt embarrassed and angry.

'This little bitch!' I thought.

"No way really?!" Jungwon said.

"Dude you just dug yourself a grave.." Sunghoon said.

"Please it's was a hard question." I said trying to explain myself.

"Yeah! That's what makes it even more embarrassing! That I could answer it but you couldn't!" Y/n laughed uncontrollably.

"Okay, okay. Y/n time out." Heeseung said.

Y/n tried to hold in her laugh but she just kept snickering.

"Looks like you gotta study more bro." Sunoo said talking to me.

"Study more, be honest more, stop faking your name. Anything that makes you less annoying to look at." Y/n said standing up.

'Bitch.. wait.. faking my name?'

I'll be going guys. I'm gonna meet up with Hyunjin for that project." Y/n said about to leave.

'Hyunjin? A boy?' I forgot what she said after hearing a boys name and eagerly listened. I then realised what I was doing and slapped my forehead.

"Woah, woah wait." Jungwon said.

Y/n halted.

What project? Who's Hyunjin? And school hasn't finished yet." Jake said.

"Dance project. My friend from grade school. I'm not going to see him right now. I'm gonna go call him to meet up, idiots." Y/n said waving and leaving with her phone.

"Hah.. I miss when she was sweet and new." Jake said.

"She still is? It's just cause of.." Jungwon said looking at me.

"What?" I said.

"Nothing never mind." Jungwon said.

Lunch ended sooner than expected.

I left a couple of minutes before the bell could ring, just so I could go the toilet.

I was making my way through the halls. As I was walking past the vending machines, I heard y/n's voice. I quickly hid behind a pillar.

"I miss you too! I can't wait to see you." She said.

'Who is she talking to?' I thought.

"I'll see you later today, don't stress." A boy's voice said.

'Is that the boy she was talking about?' I thought peeping my head to see her.

She was giggling and smiling from ear to ear. It reminded me of the past. Our past.

"How are you by the way today?" Hyunjin asked.

I rolled my eyes. What a cliche.

"I'm fine! I'm just a little tired." Y/n answered.

"Is that prick still bothering you?" Hyunjin asked.

"Ni-Ki? Yeah." Y/n said.

'ME?! I'M BOTHERING HER?!' I thought, and was shocked.

The bell rang for lunch to end.

"Uh oh, thats the bell!" She said pouting while looking at him on her phone. They were FaceTiming the whole time.

"I'll catch you later k? Tell me when you wanna meet up?" Hyunjin said.

"Okay! See you." Y/n said.

"Bye." He said ending the call.

I seen y/n smile while closing her eyes. She hugged her phone and sighed.

She picked up her back and placed her phone in it. As she secured it she dropped a book without noticing it.

It was a notebook.

I made sure she was gone before picking it up.

'Y/N Nanaki. Personal Diary Notebook. Strangers stay away!' It said in bold letters on the front.

I laughed.

'How stupid is this?' I thought laughing.

I opened the first page.

It was from when she was 5 and first learnt how to write. It was messy.

There was a bunch of people passing through the hall to get to class so I just quickly hid the book in my bag and was gonna read it later.

After school I eagerly got home to read her secrets to then later embarrass her. I needed to get back at her.

I was reading the stories from the beginning. It was a thick book. It must've had diary entries from her childhood.

I flipped through the pages. At first I was laughing at the stupid and funny things she wrote about her potty problems.

But then it got to her childhood. And about her parents and how they're never there for her except for the finances.

She wrote about her moving back and forth from Korea to Japan.

My face softened without realising. I wasn't laughing anymore.

It was the 56th page. She wrote about.. me?

Dear Diary,

I met this stupid boy called Riki. He's very dumb and doesn't know how to count! He's got the brain of a banana! I hope I never see him again!

The entry wrote.

I giggled at what her 6year old self wrote. It was all messy.

I just flipped through it. There was memories of everything. My name was plastered all over the diary. I felt a flood of emotions.

Dear Diary,

Today Riki and me were playing hide and seek. He almost forgot me. But he came back! And then he hugged me teehee!

The nickname I gave her.

I just kept flicking through the pages. All of the memories of us when we were younger.

And suddenly, the diary entries ended at when she was 10 and started again when she was 14.

There was a big timeskip.

Dear Diary,

I think there's something wrong with me. My cheeks become flushed and my palms become sweaty everytime Riki is around. Maybe it's the feeling of being 14? I don't know why I feel like this. It's as if I have butterflies in my stomach..

I felt my face heat up. She wrote about this in her DIARY? I smirked.

Dear Diary,

Today Riki tried hugging me but I pushed him away. I felt so embarrassed. My heart squeezed and my cheeks became rosy again. I'm gonna ask my friend what this feeling is.

I didn't even notice how I red I was from reading these diary entries. I just smirked while flicking through them.

Dead Diary,

I asked my friend what this was. She said I like him! Of course I do! He's my best friend.

But.. could it be more than that?

I just felt my cheeks become hot after reading these passages. The next passage wasn't a diary entry. It was just my name circled a million times.

In Japan this is a sign of liking someone. Circling a persons name.

I just kept reading some of the goofy diary entries she wrote until I halted and was shocked.

Dear Diary,

I.. think I like him.

It read. My mouth was agape and I dropped the textbook.

"I-.. She.. wh-wha.." I felt my cheeks boil red.

"W-what's going on?" I touched my cheeks.

I kept reading the entries trying to hide the blush on my cheeks.

Dear Diary,

I'm going to tell Riki. I think.. I think there's a chance for us. After all

Friends don't kiss.

'This girl. This girl..' I slapped my cheeks from feeling flushed.

I flicked through the pages. Some of them were ripped out.

Dear Diary,

Riki invited me to go to the festival with him.

Today is the day!

It's gonna be marked on the calendar.

27th June!

I just felt so flustered right now. I flipped the page over.

The last entry?

"It's ripped.." I said outloud.

"the page..." I said.

Where was the last page.

It was the last entry.

'She must've ripped it out of embarrassment.' I thought.

I was smiling to myself.

"I'm not gonna give her a rest." I smirked to myself.___________________________________
