12:42, 2 April 2021A/N:Sorry it took me a bit to upload, I just didn't really know what to write, since 'season one' is basically over, and I'm gonna be focusing on the relationship between IwaOiKage more from now on.Btw- this fic is almost finished. I am willing to do bonus chapters/one shots tho... so just comment when you have an idea.
Oh and I wanted to add that English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry for mistakes (='∀`) please point them out to me.
"Hello? Iwaizumi-san?" Kageyama was on the phone. Today was Monday, the day after Hinata, Kenma and him kind of ended things. His classes had just end, and he had to admit, it was kind of weird, not sitting with his two best friends, and instead joining at Atsumus table. It's not that it was bad, it was just different.
But Tobio liked Atsumus friends. There was this chill guy, whose name was Suna, and Atsumu was right about his brother: the two of them fought constantly. But it was funny to watch. The other guy, Kita, seemed to hold them all together. He gave Kageyama kind of mom vibes, since he had that scary expression moms would have when they got mad.
Before joining Atsumu and his Friends, he looked around for Kenma and Sho. Out of habit. He saw Shoyo sitting at a table with the green haired guy from the party, with the funny story, and some other familiar faces from the party. There was the blonde girl... Yachi? And the guy with the glasses from the billiard table. He was happy Hinata had friends to hang around with.
Kenma on the other hand sat at a table with some guys that were unknown to Kageyama. One black haired guy with a weird hair style, one slender man who looked foreign, and one shorter guy, who still gave Kageyama the chills. Something told him to stay away from him, or rather not get on his bad side.
"Kageyama-kun? Hi! How are you?" Iwaizumi asked through the phone.
How was he feeling? He felt crushed. Crushed, because he knew he lost his friends. And it was his fault. Of course they were still there, and maybe they would be on talking terms again, someday, but their relationship could never be the same again. Not after what happened. In the last years, so much had been only an act. This made him feel angry as well. He thought his friends were being sincere, while Hinata never said what he actually wanted, and Kenma acted as if he didn't despise him.
But there was also this other feeling, it was kind of like...relief? Subconsciously, he had been holding under the feeling of just bursting out. Saying everything he actually felt. Asking Kenma about how he felt. Now that feeling wasn't there anymore. It was gone. For good.
So, overall, he would say he was feeling okay. Right?
"I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. So, uh I promised to call. But why? Did you guys want to tell me something?"He didn't know why he was supposed to call his bosses. The next shoot would be on Wednesday.
He heard a little chuckle from Iwaizumi."Tobio-kun, you don't need to hide it. It's okay to feel negative emotions. I guess that your talk wasn't too positive? At least from what the blonde guy told us before you woke up."
So Kenma and Iwaizumi had talked?
"Anyways, as your bosses, Oikawa and me thought about what we could do to help you. Like, make you feel better again. And we decided on taking you out to a restaurant. Tomorrow."
They wanted to make him feel better? Why? They were only supposed to make sure he was fit for work. No one obliged them to take him out, or even spend money on him in the slightest way.
He was confused. Not because his bosses wanted to take him out, but because his heart jumped a little in his chest, as he heard about Iwaizumi's offer. Why did his stomach get all tingly again? Was he getting sick? But the panic attack didn't leave any aftermath, so what was wrong with him?He noticed, this wasn't the first time he felt his heart beating a bit faster when he was around one of his bosses.Whenever Oikawa would get a little touchy, or Iwaizumi just supported him with his presence he would fell this way.
Due to the long silence, Iwaizumi got a bit nervous, concluding that Kageyama didn't want them to take him out. He didn't say it out loud, but he wanted to be there for his Kohai.
"Uh... we don't want to pressure you or someth-" he wanted to make things less awkward, but Tobio interjected.
"NO! I- I mean, I'd like to go out with you guys. There was just- just... something that distracted me. Uhhh when?"Tobio was a bad, bad liar. He wanted to come up with an excuse for the silence, but he failed.Sometimes he wished to at least be equally good at lying as other people were. That would make thinks a lot easier.
"Uh okay. Uhm Oikawa and me wanted to pick you up from campus after your classes tomorrow. Would that be okay with you? We totally understand if that make you uncomfortable, we don't want to invade your privacy... just that would make things a tad bit easier for you."
Iwaizumi was always so respectful. He made sure tobio was okay a hundred times, before he did something. He always needed consent. Kageyama would've rolled his eyes, if it were someone else, but he found it cute on Iwaizumi. 'Cute?! What the heckity heck is wrong with me? Get a hold of yourself, Tobio!' He smacked his red cheeks, to get away the blush.
"No. No problem at all. My classes end at ten past two tomorrow. I really appreciate everything you guys do for me.. I don't even deserve it..." his voice softened towards the end, but Iwaizumi heard it all.
"Yes You do Tobio. You are special to us, and we want to make sure you are fine. Okay, anyways I have to get going now. See you tomorrow at ten past two." They exchanged a little and quick 'bye' before they hung up.
This was the most awkward phone call Kageyama had in his whole life.
And what did Iwaizumi mean with special? He must've meant special, as in a special worker, right? They cherish him more than other models cause he is so young and therefore inexperienced, right? The guide him, cause they feel responsible for him, right?
Yes that must be it.
Kageyama ignored the burn on his cheeks and on his ears, and made his way back to his flat.
The bell had rung three minutes ago, indicating his last class had ended. He had already packed his bag with his school supplies, and was now heading out of the auditorium with Atsumu.Atsumu was majoring in both physics and psychology, which was a weird combination, tobio thought, but he let it be.
"So, Tobio-kun, do ya maybe wanna go out some time? Like get a drink, and just hang out?", Atsumu asked him.
Tobio wasn't too sure, about that, since he wasn't the type of person to drink, nor go out often. But he felt like he needed to come out of his shell more.
"Uh.. sure. Just tell me when. Will Osamu-San and Suna-San join us?"
"Ya bet. But once they are drunk, ya can't rely on either of them. Rin is the type that gets all emotional, and samu starts doin' weird things like flirting. Honestly, ya should see his face, when he flirts!" Atsumu laughed.
Kageyama knew more than enough about the rivalry the two twins shared. Aalthough it was only the second day he hung out with them, he got to encounter more fights than average.
"Is that so? What about you then? What type of drunk are you? Or do you want to tell me that you act all natural?" Kageyama teased, knowing very well that it got the other embarrassed.
Atsumu got all red, just like tobio had expected."Rude! Anyhow, I'm not as embarrassing as samu is. And you? What type of drunk are ya?"Atsumu would always steer the direction of the convo onto Kageyama, when it got to him. Noticing that character trait, kags rolled his eyes.
By now they had gotten out of the building and were on campus.
"I have never been drunk." He said. It wasn't something he was ashamed of, since he decided that for him self.
"Shut up!" Atsumu said in disbelief.
Kageyama didn't get it. He was just answering the question."But I didn't say-"
Atsumu threw his arm around tobios shoulder."Then we only have more of a reason to go out! I will text ya all the details later on." Kageyama hummed in approval.
The two of them just continued walking, Atsumus hand around tobios shoulder. They enjoyed each other's presence. They haven't known each other for a long time, but they knew they would become good friends.
"TOBIO-CHAAAAN! Iwa-chan, look! He's there!" Kageyama turned his head really quick, spotting his two bosses, and crushes. His eyes grew wide. He totally forgot about that.Wait- did he look good? Was his outfit appropriate? Oh god! Why didn't someone remind him?
Atsumu, too, turned to the two people. He recognized them from the party, and he got curious. He looked to Tobio-kun, only to see him all red, checking out his outfit, and brushing through his hair.Kageyama noticed it had gotten longer. He needed an appointment at the hair salon soon.
Atsumu counted one and one together, and chuckled. He dragged tobio more in direction of the two older male, but Kageyama didn't even notice. He was too caught up in his thoughts.
"Don't worry, Tobio-kun. Ya look just fine." He winked. "I'm sure your crush will like it, whoever it is out of them.Kageyama looked at Atsumu, and if it was even possible, he got more red. Not only because Atsumu just figured out about his crush, but also because it's not only one out of the two.
"Uh... it's- it's them both. I know, it's weird, but I feel all tingly around them." Kageyama looked to the ground, unsure of Atsumus answer.
"Ohohohoho! Yuhhh get into it best frannn!", he hollered. Atsumu let go of his shoulder and started doing some TikTok dance moves. They didn't look good at all.
Kageyama let out a little laugh, relieved with Atsumus answer.
"Yeah, but it's just a little crush it'll go away soon. Anyways, I got to go now, don't wanna make them wait any longer."
"Sure Tobio-kun. I'll make sure to call you when we planned something, okay? And the next time, ya gotta introduce me to yer boyfriends." He winked a dozen times, to which tobio replied with an eye roll, but also a little smile.
They waved goodbye, and Tobio went through his hair and over his outfit one more time, before turning around, and making his way to his two friends. He took a deep breath, ignoring his fast heartbeat.
"Tobio-chaaan!" Oikawa waved with both his hands above his head, although Kageyama had clearly already seen them. He brought his hands up for a second, imitating a little wave. He sped up his pace a bit, he didn't want them waiting that long for him.
As he got there, he smiled at them and said "hi" awkwardly. Iwaizumi was going in for a hug, but Kageyama only noticed when he was already backing off again. He then went in for a hug, but Iwaizumi realized this too late. This continued one more time, stopping, when Oikawa just threw himself at tobio. He didn't need approval from anyone.
"Tobio-chan! How are you? Are you good? Let me look at you!" He held Kageyamas cheeks, and ruffled through his hair."Awww your hair has gotten long! It looks so good on you! Doesn't it Iwa-Chan? I bet Kageyama looks good with a ponytail. His bangs around his face would make him even cuter! Kawaii!"
Oikawa ranted on, as he played with Kageyamas hair absentmindedly. It was frequent for Oikawa to call tobio cute, but, this time however, it had a bigger impact on him. His cheeks got red for the millionth time.He has become a blushing mess around his senpais. He wasn't too fond of that.
"So Kageyama-kun. Who was that guy you were with? A friend of yours? Or perhaps... your boyfriend?" Iwaizumi was actually pretty reserved, but he felt all protective around Kags, which had him let down his guard a bit.
Kageyamas eyes grew wide at the thought of Atsumu being his boyfriend. He didn't see him as more as his friend. Plus, he had kiyoomi. "Ah! No. His name is Miya Atsumu. But tsumu is just a friend. We met at the house party, and had contact ever since."He scratched the back of his head.
"Ara? Already on given name basis?" Oikawa teased.Kageyama got red again. Not because of what Oikawa said, but because his hands started gripping Tobio's hair firmer. He imagined having this grip all over his body. He was ashamed of his thoughts. He needed to get a hold of himself.
"Oh yea... that's because he has a twin, and it would get confusing, calling them both by their last name.. but he is cool. I like him. I'm sure we will be great friends." Kageyama stated rationally. Iwaizumi and Oikawa looked at each other for a second, communicating through their gazes, before speaking up again.
"Anyways... let's get going. The table is reserved for three, and we still need to get there." Iwaizumi said, wanting to change the direction of their convo.
The two others nodded in agreement, and all of them made their way to the vehicle. It was elegant, just as Kageyama expected. The two others then took seat in the front, leaving Kageyama a lot of space in the back.
It was a joke. The whole going out thing was a bad, bad joke. Or at least Kageyama hoped so. The three of them went to eat at a very expensive five star restaurant, saying they only wanted the best for their Tobio-Chan.
It was going all good at first, with them talking about lots of different stuff.Kageyama learned so much about them, for example how Iwaizumi gets scared of insects, and Oikawa always has to help him get rid of them. He would've thought that it was Oikawa who would jump up at the sight of a cockroach. He told them about everything Kenma, Shoyo and he had talked about after the older ones left on Sunday, and found himself receiving a lot of appreciation and understanding.
He offered them to pay for his food by himself, since he didn't want to be a burden to them, and they declined, saying that they had invited him.Something stereotypical you would expect from a hangout.
So why again, was he now sitting on a closed toilet, afraid of going back to their table?
Ah, right. It's because of his bad temper.
It started off, when he noticed how Iwaizumi and Oikawa would hold their hands under the table. He accepted it though, since he was aware of them being together. This was just what couples did, right? Still, he couldn't get away the feeling of jealousy in his chest. Then, instead of just leaving it at that, Oikawa started leaning his head on Iwaizumi's shoulder, while keeping eye contact with Kageyama. He could feel the jealousy become stronger.
He wasn't jealous because they acted like a couple, no he was jealous, because he wasn't a part of their relationship. He realized it more, every second that passed. He wanted to be with both Iwaizumi and Oikawa.
When, he then saw Iwaizumi and Oikawa kissing, right in front of him, he spilled his coke on his t-shirt. Intentionally. On purpose. He used it as an excuse to go to the bathroom. He knew he couldn't have lasted another second in there. He didn't want to start crying like a baby because of that, but he knew he couldn't have sat there and done nothing.
It affected him too much to just ignore it and move on.
So... what was he gonna do now? He couldn't sit here forever. Eventually, one of them would start looking for him.Maybe he could just sneak out unseen?
He sighed and took a deep breath. His shirt had already been replaced with a spare one. He always had one on him. Who knew what would happen?
He was no pussy, so he just bit his teeth together and marched out of the bathroom. He would have to endure it. There was no getting out of this. The only thing in his mind was going for a drink with tsumu, samu and Suna. Maybe that would help him clear his mind a bit.
