Chapter 54

( A/n: Part 4 of When Lighting Comes )

Later that night, another storm came, with even more lightning than before. Meryl was in her house, she was more terrified than before, even Evergreen and Goofball were scared. Onyx and the Boneknappers were in the forest with Sweet and a pack of Terrible Terrors, they were all taking shelter in a cave. Hiccup, Gobber, and Stoick were standing outside looking at the storm.

Hiccup: Unbelievable. Even more lightning than the last storm. Oh, gods, Meryl must be so terrified right now.

Gobber: I don't understand. We gave Thor a giant statue!

Stoick: It was a gallant effort, son, but it looks as though this is not what Thor wanted.

Gobber sidesteps away from Toothless.

Hiccup: Gobber, what are you doing?

Gobber: I love Toothless, I'm just erring on the side of caution.

Toothless whines, as he was scared.

Hiccup: ( to Toothless: ) Hey, don't worry, bud. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. ( Looking at Gobber ) No matter what some people think!

( With Tida and the Thorstons )

Tida was hiding under the kitchen table, and Mrs. Thorston looked at the toddler with a smile, trying to ease the child's fear.

Mrs. Thorston: It's okay, sweetie. The storm isn't going to hurt us, as long as we stay- ( looks around and noticed that the twins weren't in the house ) Where are Ruff and Tuff?

Tida points up, Mrs. Thorston then goes outside and sees that the twins are sitting on the rooftop of their house, watching the storm while eating nuts. Mrs. Thorston looks up at her two kids with a dumbfounded expression.

Ruffnut: Whoa. Look at all that damage and destruction.

Tuffnut: I know. It's so beautiful!-

Mrs. Thorston: Tuffnut LaVerne Thorston and Ruffnut Eugene Thorston! Get your trouble making butts down from there and get in inside! Now!

Tuffnut & Ruffnut: ( at the same time: ) But, Mom!-

Mrs. Thorston: No buts! Down, now! Don't make me come up there, you two! You have ten seconds to get down or I'm coming up!

Mrs. Thorston then noticed that there was a mob going towards the Haddock House. Tida peeks out the door and whines at the sight of the mob, making Mrs. Thorston mad at the mob.

Mrs. Thorston: It's that awful Mildew. Dear!

Mr. Thorston walked out the house, gently ruffling Tida's hair before walking out of the door, and he looked at his wife with a raised brow. Mrs. Thorston then points at the mob of vikings going towards the Haddock House.

Mr. Thorston: ( angrily: ) Mildew again...

( With Hiccup and Toothless at the Haddock House )

Hiccup was trying to comfort Toothless.

Hiccup: ( to Stoick: ) Y-You don't really think Thor is angry because of Toothless, do you?

Stoick: Of course, I don't.

Someone bangs the door.

Mildew: Open up, Stoick! We've come for the Night Fury!

Stoick: But I'm afraid they do. Get Toothless to a safe place, I'll try to reason with them.

Hiccup: But-

Stoick: Just go!

Gobber: Safe travels, old friend.

Hiccup and Toothless then sneak out the back.

Hiccup: Don't worry, bud. It's you and me.

( With Stoick and the mob )

Mildew: Give up the dragon, Stoick! Look at your people. We've had enough!

Stoick: You're too late. He's gone.

Gobber: Stoick's already sent him off the island.

Mildew: Thor says otherwise. The dragon must still be on the island. Find the Night Fury!-

Mr. Thorston: Leave the dragon alone.

Mildew and the mob turned to see Mr. Thorston glaring at them with his arms crossed.

Mildew: ( to Mr. Thorston: ) Can't you see? This is that Night Fury's faul-

Mr. Thorston: No. ( To the mob: ) Have you all forgotten what that dragon has done for this village? Or are you too busy listening to the man who almost killed a girl with blue oleander? ( To Mildew, sternly: ) I have had enough of you, because when my kids' zippleback was banished because of what you did. They were too sad to cause mischief, which made me upset. Now, you want to hurt their friend's dragon? ( Shakes his head ) You'll have to get through me first.

Gobber: ( whispers to Stoick: ) This is the longest we've ever seen him talk in years... I don't know if that's good or bad.

Mr. Thorston then cracked his knuckles while glaring at Mildew and the mob.

( Slight Time Skip with Meryl )

Meryl looked out her window, and gasped as she saw that Mildew and an angry mob of vikings were pulling Toothless to the docks.

Meryl: Toothless... ( Takes a deep breath ) Okay, Meryl... You can do this...for Toothless.

Meryl then ran outside, and started running to the docks, planning on rescueing Toothless even though she was currently doing what no SandStriker has done before, go outside during a lightning storm.

When she got to the docks, Mildew was yelling at Stoick and Mr. Thorston after they told him to release Toothless, Mildew not noticing that Meryl was running towards him.

Mildew: Open your eyes, Stoick. It's the only solution and you know it. It worked with Barnstat and it'll work with Toothless-

Meryl then ran to Mildew and punched him in the jaw. Everyone, even Toothless, looked at her in shock, mostly because she was outside during the lightning storm than punching Mildew, everyone was expecting her to punch him at some point. She then stands in front of Toothless protectively.

Meryl: Stay away from Toothless, you bunch of wild animals! Or I will attack! ( Growls )

Stoick, Gobber, and Mr. Thorston then stood beside Meryl, Mr. Thorston holding a battle-axe in his hands.

Stoick: If you want to get to that dragon, you're gonna have to go through us!

Bucket and Mulch push their way up to join the Scalewalker and the three vikings.

Stoick: ( to Bucket and Mulch: ) Thank you, lads.

Bucket: I-If we're choosing sides, Mulch, uh, there's more over there. Lots more.

Mulch: We stand with the Chief, Bucket.

Vikings lunge at them, but are knocked back by Stormfly.

Hiccup: Stop! Stop! You could get rid of Toothless, you could throw him off the edge of the world, but it's not going to stop this lightning from destroying Berk. It's the metal. The lightning is hitting the metal! Just think about it. We never had a lightning storm like this until we put up those perches, that statue, right? And they're all made of metal!

Mildew: ( has a huge bruise on his face from Meryl's punch ) Oh, bah! You ever heard of anything so insane?!

Meryl: Yes, Mildew, I have, it's you whenever you're talking.

Hiccup then shows them Toothless's now destroyed tail fin.

Hiccup: Y-You see? This is where the lightning struck Toothless. On this connecting rod...this metal connecting rod! Look, if you don't believe me, I can prove it!

Meryl: Wait, what- ( realizes what Hiccup was doing as he begins to climb onto the mast of a ship with a metal rod ) Oh, no. Hiccup! Get down from there! Are you even sure about what you are doing?!

Hiccup: Sure? Uh, that's a strong word. It's really more of a...hunch. I'll be fine, Mery!

Meryl: He's gonna be the death of me.

Astrid looks at Meryl in shock, and Meryl noticed and knows why.

Meryl: I know. I'm outside during a lightning storm, don't remind me!

Gobber: Oh, boy, here he goes again...

Stoick: He doesn't make it easy. Hiccup!

Mr. Thorston: ( to Stoick: ) At least he only does it a few times, my son does this kind of stuff everyday.

Hiccup: You'll all see for yourselves! When I attach this metal rod to the top of this mast, the lightning will be drawn to-

A bolt of lightning then strikes Hiccup.

Meryl & Stoick: HICCUP!!

Hiccup looses conscious, and falls off the mast and falls into the water. Meryl then jumped into the water, and Toothless then broke free and jumped after them. Meryl then grabs Hiccup, and Toothless grabs the back of her shirt and drags them to the surface.

Meryl: Hiccup... Please wake up...

Stoick: Son...

( Slight Time Skip )

Meryl was at the Haddock House with Stoick and Gobber with her dragons, waiting for Hiccup to wake up. They then heard his voice, and Evergreen quickly bolted upstairs and jumped onto Hiccup with her tongue sticking out. Stoick, Gobber, Meryl, and Goofball ran up to Hiccup's room.

Stoick: My boy! You're alright! You took a lightning bolt to the head.

Gobber: Just like Barnstat. Except we won't be throwing you off the island.

Meryl: ( sternly, to Hiccup: ) Don't you ever do that again. Or I will be throwing you off the island, mister.

Hiccup: So everyone knows Thor wasn't mad at Toothless?

Stoick: They do now.

Meryl: They also know not to mess with me, after I gave Mildew a bruise when I punched him in the face.

Gobber: Until we figure out why Thor was angry at the metal, we're all walking on eggshells.

Then the Dragon Riders watched as the villagers take down the perches and statue.

Hiccup: We worked so hard on that statue. Kind of a shame we have to just scrap it for parts.

Stoick: Well, maybe we don't have to. Why don't you take it to one of the high points on the island and leave it there?

Tuffnut: Good idea, Chief! I would've thought of it myself, but I'm not the Chief.

Snotlout: Oh, we'll handle that for you.

Meryl: We know just the place to put it.

( Slight Time Skip )

The Dragon Riders drop the statue at Mildew's doorstep and fly away, Meryl smiled as she heard Mildew yell " You'll pay for this! "

Hiccup: I'm not sure that's what my dad had in mind, guys.

Snotlout: Hey, that's the way I understood it.

Meryl: Same here.
