The next day we all woke up early to raise the flag and Becky set the bird free. She had been helping it get better in the house and it was finally all better.
Now I'm sitting in the lake house with the moms and Amber while they make shirts for this basketball game that the dads are playing in later. Mia's outside with Lucas and the rest of the kids.
Roxanne started shouting at the sewing machine in Spanish.
"That's so sexy. What did you say?" Sally asked her.
"Oh I think that she said," Deanna said jumble of words and then Milan making all of us laugh.
"You know, these guys at the store, we're talking so much smack about this basketball rematch that's supposed to go on." Amber said.
"Well I'm glad we're getting these uniforms ready." Gloria said before the closet opened to reveal Higgins.
"Ah, no more drinking." he groaned. I pursed my lips together when I saw that he had Sally's breast pump attached to his chest.
"Did you really sleep in the closet, you drunk?" I asked with a chuckle.
"Think so." he laughed before pulling the breast pump off. "Oh I had the sexiest dream about a little blonde girl though." just as he said this Curly walked out of the closet making me hold back a laugh. "I think it was a dream."
Higgins went outside to find the dads when I heard the sound of Mia giggling. I looked out the window and smiled when I saw Lucas chasing after her. When he caught her, he picked her up and spun her around.
"So Abby," Deanne started with a smirk as she sat next to me at the counter, "what's going on with you and Lucas?"
"Um what do you mean?" I asked as I awkwardly scratched my neck.
"Well you guys seem to be growing closer." she shrugged.
"So?"
Sally gave me an 'are you dumb' look. "My son is not that stupid. It's very obvious he likes you."
I laughed nervously. "No he doesn't."
If I'm being completely honest, I don't know how I feel about Lucas. One minute he's almost kissing me and then the next he's acting like nothing even happened. He never even brought it up again and I don't know if it's because he doesn't know how I'd feel or if it's just because it was a heat of the moment thing.
"Besides, I don't have time to focus on guys. I have Mia to take care of." I said.
"So?" she raised her brows. "Doesn't mean you can't get back into dating. Plus, look at them."
I followed her gaze and saw Lucas holding Mia in his arms while watching the other kids play tag. He had his chin resting on top of her head that was laid sideways on his chest. He was slightly rocking side to side which I knew would make her fall asleep.
"You cannot tell me those two aren't two peas in a pod." Deanna shook her head with a smile.
"I don't know." I shrugged. "I mean, I don't even live out here. I live all the way across the country."
"Oh yeah." they all said glumly. I pursed my lips.
Even if I do admit that I like Lucas, I don't know how that would even work. I'm all the way across the country and I've never done long distance before. Plus with Mia, I wouldn't be able to handle traveling with her a lot. I wouldn't want her to get attached to him if it's not gonna work out in the end.
We heard a commotion outside and saw the dads at the top of the boat house. My eyes widened when Rob kicked Higgins between the legs. We all ran out there to see what was going on.
"Look, I'm sorry I don't have my life together like Lenny." Higgins said as we got up there.
"Oh, together like Lenny. Oh please." Roxanne looked at my dad. "I answered your phone hipocrita. It was your assistant. I asked him if he canceled the flight to Milan and he said he did. Before we even came here."
"He said that? Why would he even say that?" Dad tried to play dumb. Okay I know Roxanne and I don't get along but I'm on her side. He definitely should have told her.
"So he just made that up, huh?" Roxanne asked.
Lucas walked up with Mia and she reached out for me. I smiled and took her into my arms.
"I'm not saying he made it up. I'm think-- in his head he believes it's true."
"Don't you agent me Lenny." Roxanne walked up to him. "Stop trying to handle everybody and everything, and start taking a little responsibility for once."
"I'll talk responsibility, okay? You're right." he told her. "I thought it would be better for our family to be here with normal people instead of going to Milan."
"We're normal?" Deanne asked.
"I was scared to tell you. It was easier for me to keep it a secret, just like with Abby's pregnancy. You blew up." Dad said.
"Oh yeah that too. You got a woman knocked up before you were even twenty and as a result you now have a daughter who's a teen mom!" Roxanne exclaimed.
"Don't bring me into this." I cut in. "This is about you two and I'm sick and tired of you always dragging Mia into everything."
"Because she's a mistake, just like you." Roxanne snapped and that was the last straw.
Mia frowned and put her face in my neck. Everyone fell silent as my blood absolutely boiled. I handed Mia to Lucas and stepped towards Roxanne.
"Call my daughter a mistake again." I threatened. "You can hate me all you want and you can be mad at my dad, but do not say shit about her. Because I can guarantee you that when it comes to her, I don't play around. I would never comment about your parenting towards Greg, Kiethie, and Becky so don't comment about mine towards Mia."
"You got yourself pregnant at 16, I didn't." she said.
"And I'm still a better mother than most people!" I exclaimed. "Yes, I found out I was pregnant at 16 and I had Mia when I turned 17, but that doesn't mean that she deserves to be treated like shit by you. She's still my dads granddaughter and nothing will change that."
"Exactly, you are Lenny's daughter. Not mine." she pointed out.
"Yeah, you're right." I scoffed and stepped back. "And I'm done with your bullshit. When we get back to LA, Mia and I are moving out. Congratulations, you finally win."
My dad looked at me in disbelief but I just shook my head and took Mia as I turned around and walked away.
I'm just done.
