Lucas's POV

"Can't believe you." I mumbled and went to follow after Abigail.

I can't believe her dad won't even defend her and Mia against Roxanne. He just stands there like an idiot and lets them argue. Roxanne's a grown adult and Abigail is only nineteen. I don't blame her for wanting to move out.

"Abby!" I called to Abigail who was walking up to the house with Mia on her hip. She stopped and turned around to face me.

"What?" I noticed how glossy her eyes were and frowned.

"Hey, I'm sorry." I put a hand on her cheek. She just shook her head.

"It's not you that needs to say sorry. Listen, can you tell them I'm not gonna go to the stupid hay ride later?" she asked me and now it was my turn to frown.

"What? Come on Abby, you have to come." I took one of her hands into mine. She adjusted Mia on her hip and shook her head.

"I don't want to go if I'm just gonna have to deal with them again." she scoffed. "I don't want Mia around that and I don't want her being told that she's a mistake!"

"I know Abby, but you don't have to go anywhere near them." I told her. "You don't deserve to be treated like this and I hate seeing you upset. So just come with us later. At least come with me. All the kids want you to go and Mia would have a blast."

"I don't know Lucas." she shook her head.

"I promise, I won't let them ruin today for you. It's fourth of July and you deserve to have fun."

"You can take Mia with you but I don't want to go." she said.

"Come on Abby. It won't be the same without you. I want to hang out with you so if you don't go then I won't either."

"Lucas--"

"Nope, this is a package deal." I pointed between us and Mia. "You stay, I stay. You go, I go."

"I'll go if you promise to keep my dad and Roxanne away from me." she said in all seriousness.

"Deal. Now come with me." I grabbed her hands and pulled her towards the house.

"Why?" she asked as Mia looked at me.

"So we can eat food to cheer you up. I have a stash of marshmallows." I smirked.

A smile twitched at her lips making my heart flutter. I don't know why but something about her just makes my stomach do that thing with the butterflies. I know it sounds very not manly but it's true.

I haven't even though about a girl like that since Rachel but Abigail's just different.

"Okay, it's in position." Greg said as him and I set up the air mattress in the lake for Andre to jump on.

"I don't know man. This thing looks crazy." Andre shook his head.

"It'll be fun. Come on, I spent all morning blowing this thing up." I told him. "And if you do this, Abby will give you a kiss."

Abigail gasped and slapped my shoulder.

"Let's do this thing!" Andre cheered and climbed onto the mattress. I smirked at Abigail who rolled her eyes.

"You should be okay." Donna told him.

"Should be!?" Andre didn't have much time to think about it because Donna and Greg jumped onto the other end of the mattress and he went flying in the air before landing in the lake with a smack.

He let out a girly scream making Mia giggle from her spot on a floatie. Andre's head popped out of the water.

"Let's do that again!" he shouted. Abigail laughed and swam over to him. She placed a kiss on his cheek and I'm pretty sure he almost fainted.

"Lukey." I looked over at Mia who stood up on her floatie. I held my arms out and she jumped towards me making me laugh. I tossed her up in the air a little and kissed her cheek.

"You know, I feel replaced." Abigail said as she swam back over to us.

I laughed and looked at Mia who wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Because you are." I smirked.

"Mama, I hungy." Mia rubbed her tummy making Abigail laugh.

"Okay, let's head back." we all swam back to the shore and met up with the adults.

We all found a place with a few benches and started eating watermelon. Mia was making a total mess but damn that girl could eat. She ate an entire piece by herself in like two minutes.

I looked at Abigail and couldn't help but admire her. She was smiling at Mia who kept moving away from her when she tried to wipe the watermelon juice off of her face. That's one thing I noticed is that she smiles the brightest when she's with Mia. No matter the circumstances she'll always look down at her with so much love in her eyes.

And although her hair was thrown up into a messy bun she still looked beautiful.

"You really wanna do this Bailey?" I looked over and saw some dude standing in front of Lenny. Four other guys his age walked up with a boy my age.

"My five against your five." Bailey said.

"You've got six." Abigail pointed out making our parents laugh. "Dumbass."

"Oh boy, look at this. I see the boys stayed in shape huh?" Lenny asked. One of them with their eyes crossed burped. "Robideaux, good to see you."

"Lenny." he nodded.

"If you're looking at me, I don't know." My dad and Higgins laughed at the comment. "Look fellas, we just wanna kind of eat some watermelon and relax if you're all right with that."

"Oh no. It's not all right. You're not gonna weasel out of this one, Feder." Bailey told him. "Wiley snuck out of intensive care to see you finally get some justice."

We all looked over at the man who was in a full body cast. "Yo. You best be getting to balling, Feder."

"Oh hey Wiley. Was the field goal good?" Lenny asked.

"Yeah, first time I've ever heard that one."

"Seriously though Dickie, let us hang out with our families. We wanna relax." Lenny said.

"Yeah. They're afraid of us. That's what it is." one of the guys said cockily.

"I don't think anybody's afraid of someone that's eating multiple hot dogs at once." Abigail commented.

"Yeah, we're afraid you might eat the ball before we even start the game." Higgins added and we all laughed at both of them.

"Same old Higgins, he can talk the talk but he can't..." the cross eyed guy trailed off as he forgot the rest of the saying. "I forget the rest."

"Booyah!" another one of them said.

"We got Rob here with the bad foot. You can't do it, right buddy?" Lenny asked him. I looked at the boy my age and saw that he was looking at Abigail's chest and watching her like she was a piece of meat.

I scooted closer to her and Mia and glared at him.

"Okay, let's do this." Lenny stood up and I realized that they were actually gonna play these guys.

I have a feeling this isn't gonna end well.

Abigail's POV

We all sat beside the basketball court as we waited for the dads to come out.

"Look guys!" we heard Kiethie shout and point at something. We looked over and saw the dads walking towards the basketball court in their Water Wizz shirts.

They all had intimidating faces on which weren't very intimidating. I covered my mouth to hide a laugh as Kurt stepped on Rob's foot making him scream out in pain. Lucas nudged me and tilted his head.

"Stop laughing." he mumbled but I could tell he was trying to hide his own laugh.

I saw the mom's, Gloria, and Rita come out in cheerleading outfits making me shake my head. They asked me to do it but I said no.

The game started and Dad scored the first point. The game was pretty much tied up the whole time because both teams kept scoring back to back. Eventually Eric and another guy on the team faked injuries to get out of playing.

Lucas rolled his eyes at how out of shape his dad is. Then Kurt got hit in the head by the basketball which made Mia start to giggle like crazy. Yep, she's definitely my daughter.

"This is ridiculous. Someone's gonna have a heart attack." Higgins said.

"What are you doing? That's it?" Lenny asked when the rest of the guys started going back to their seats. They all sat down and Lenny looked at Bailey.

"What do you say we bring my son and your son into this?"

"Done." Bailey nodded. "The older boy too."

"Fine, Greggie, Lucas." Lenny waved them over.

"Whoo!" I cheered for my brother and boy-- Lucas. My brother and Lucas.

Lucas looked at me with raised brows before standing up with Greg.

"Lukey!" Mia clapped and giggled making him smile.

Third Person POV

"Hey, somebody fill up that jug with some Boss water, for the Hollywood kid." Bailey taunted.

"It's Voss, with a V." Greg corrected him.

"Ooh-ooo." Bailey's son said.

"Hey Dicky junior!" I shouted. "You wanna get your ass kicked!?"

"That your girl?" Bailey's other son named Max asked Lucas.

"No." he responded dryly. He looked over at Abigail who was using one of Mia's hands to wave at him.

"That your daughter?"

"No."

"So she's available?"

Lucas's head shot in his direction with a sharp glare. "Not to you." he snapped.

Max smirked and shook his head.

"All right. It's a tied score. Tied score." Bailey clapped his hands. Lenny had the ball and he passed it to Greg who passed it back to him. He passed it to Lucas who shot the ball and made it.

He looked over at Max and smirked. Everyone cheered for him and Abigail clapped Mia's hands together.

"Say 'Go Lukey!'." she told her daughter.

"Go Lukey!" Mia shouted as loud as she could making Abigail and everyone else laugh. Lucas winked at Abigail making her blush and bite her lip.

During the next play, Bailey got the ball and he scored.

"His foot was on the line!" Kurt and Abigail shouted.

"Next basket wins. Let's go." Lenny said.

During the next play Lucas got the ball and he passed it to Greg who passed it to Lenny. Lenny got an open shot but he hesitated. He looked at Greg before looking over at his family. He then looked at Abigail and Mia and sighed.

Lucas realized what he was gonna do and stopped trying to push Max away from him. Lenny shot the ball and just as Lucas thought, he missed.

The excitement from their side all left them as a bunch of people cheered for Bailey as he made the final basket. Although they lost, Lucas had a small smile on his face. Mia ran up to him and jumped into his arms. He lifted her onto his hip and Abigail walked up.

"Hey, you're still a winner to us." she told him. He smiled and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

She looked over and her smile faltered a bit when she saw her Dad, Roxanne, and their kids all hugging. In full honesty, it breaks her heart to see them be a family. The smiles on their faces, even her dad, as they all rejoice.

She feels jealous.

There's no denying that. But she has Mia, so at the end of the day she's still winning. She looked up at Lucas and Mia and smiled when her daughter gave him a kiss.

It almost made her eyes well up because Mia never gives out kisses to anyone except for her, Lenny, and Abigail's bestfriend Kenzie. It just goes to show how much she's grown to love Lucas over the short time they've spent together.

Everyone sat on the large grass field later that night and watched the fireworks. Lucas and Abigail sat on a blanket on the ground and Mia was laying in between his legs with his sweatshirt wrapped around her. She was practically asleep because of the long day they had.

"Hey." Lucas wrapped his arm around Abigail's shoulder and she looked up at him. "You remember the other night?"

She furrowed her brows before realizing what he meant. "Um, yeah. Why?"

"Because," he leaned closer to her without disturbing Mia's sleep, "I know you might think that I think it was just a heat of the moment thing but I don't."

"Lucas, you got out of a pretty serious relationship so I don't blame you if you're not ready for a new one." she told him. "It's okay. You won't hurt my feelings." she smiled at him reassuringly.

"That's the thing." he licked his lips. "I am ready. At first I thought I would never get over her but I have." he bit the inside of his cheek and nudged his nose with hers. "Because I met you. But I didn't know if you were ready because of Mia and maybe her dad I don't know."

She blushed and bit her lip as she looked into his blue eyes. "I might be ready too." she smiled softly.

Lucas breathed out a laugh before closing the space between them and placing his lips on hers. She smiled into the kiss and put a hand on his cheek. His arm dropped to her waist and his other one was draped over Mia.

A few feet away, Sally and Eric watched their son as he pulled away from her and smile at her. A smile they hadn't seen on his face in almost a year. A smile that Abigail caused.

She leaned her head onto Lucas's shoulder and he pressed his lips to her head as they watched the rest of the fireworks. For the first time in a long time, both of them felt comfortable with someone in a way they hadn't in a while.

And it was partially thanks to the little girl that turned both of their worlds.
