Lover Sacrificed - Chapter 38

14:14, 31 August 2014

- So what’s going to happen, I get sick and die? Do we even know if this antidote exists? Is it real?

- It’s real and it works. Doc Jane has been testing this for years now. She and Manny have done everything they can to recreate it. It just ain’t happening. The bastards have our hands tied but good.

- Fuck.

- Yeah. And you can hate me all you want, but if I have to side with the Omega himself to save your life, then fuck, that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Darius frowned trying to think of something, anything that could get him out of this, but he just didn't know... suddenly a thought overwhelmed him, making it hard for him to breath.

- Oh god, oh fuck. Fuck!

- Darius, it's ok, you'll get mated, we'll get the antidote. We'll figure something out and...

- No! You don't understand! She fed from me!

- Son, Penehlope's fine...

- Not her! Nalla! Nalla fed from me! Oh dearest Scribe Virgin, she can't be infected! I'm...

- Darius. Darius! She's fine.

- How can you know that?

- Because whatever they put inside you, is not contagious. Feron wouldn't risk infecting his daughter or future heir for that matter. But, just to be on the safe side, I'll ask Doc Jane to discretely run some tests.

Darius slumped in a chair. He was just so tired of all this.

- What if...

- No.

- Dad...

- No. I know what you're thinking and I will not have it. Don't even think about it.

- So you're tying the whole brotherhood, everyone in the household, to the Glymera? That's not right dad. And I'm not just saying that because I would rather live my last few years happy with Nalla, than the rest of my whole life with anyone else. If you think about it, really think about it... My life doesnt matter. It would just be collateral damage. We could avoid having them linked to us, to everyone, and they wouldn't win.

- No D.

- If I were anyone else, you'd do it.

- But you're not anyone else. You're my son. So suicide is. Not. An. Option.

- Well, maybe it should be.

Nalla sat on her brand new, chocolate brown sofa.

- Kat, come sit down! It's really comfy.

The doggen shook her head while smiling indulgently. They had immediately gotten along, though Katya refused to sit with her on the sofa, or sit at the table or do anything other than take care of her and cook for her and clean for her... Which was why she had given the doggen free reign to decorate the baby's room. Which obviously she didn't want to do yet. "The scribe Virgin won't appreciate it if we assume the young is going to be born healthy. Better wait untill after the birth", she had said several times. Which was fine by Nalla. She still had more than a year to go... And she was already feeling so lonely. She really wished she could call her mahmen and get her to come over.

Then again... she hadn't even told her she had left the cabin at Rehv's camp.

Ok... time to grow up and face her parents wrath.

- Hi mahmen.

- Hi honey. What's up?

- I ah... need to talk to you.

- Ok.

- Please don't get mad ok, but you and dad... you don't have to come visit me next week.

Her mom stayed quiet for a while.

- Why?

- I have found a place. A new place, to stay. And I ah, I've decided that I am going to stay here from now on.

- Where are you? Are you safe? Nalla...

- Mahmen, I'm fine. I'm safe. I even have a doggen to take care of me.

- Did your uncle help you?

- No.

- He did, I know it. Which is good ‘cause at least I know you're safe. Fine, tell me where it is and...

- Mom, I... I really need to be alone for a while. OK?

- What are you keeping from me? I thought you trusted me enough. You know you can tell me anything.

- And I will. Someday soon, I promise. Just... not right now.

- I don't understand, Nalla honey.

- I know mahmen. But I need you to trust me on this one. I am safe. I am well cared for and I am not alone. I just need your help with one teeny tiny little issue.

Her mom sighed.

- Don't worry; I'll make sure your father doesn’t go crazy over this.
