Party Panic

This takes place a few months after the previous chapter.

Agasa Residence, 11:55 am..

Haibara was on the kitchen counter sipping her coffee. Doctor Agasa was at a convention early in the morning.

The doorbell rang and Haibara got up to go answer it. Leaning on the wall was Conan, he smiled at Haibara as she let him in. "No good morning?" He asks walking behind her. "I just woke up." She said sipping her coffee."Where's Hakase?" He asks sitting on the living room couch opposite her.

"He's out at a convention." Haibara says yawning. "Oh okay, you look awfully tired." He says inspecting her face. "I didn't have any sleep last night." "And why is that?" He asks slightly irritated. "Because I've been working on this new type of drug and it's taking longer than I thought." She says noticing his tone.

"Still doesn't answer my question." He says again. She sighs. "I like to work at night because it's more quieter and besides, I'm used to sleepless nights." She says placing her cup on the table. "You never listen do you." He says getting up and walking towards her. "No..not really." She says sarcastically.

Conan leans down and kisses her slowly, Haibara pulls away and pushes his face with her finger playfully. They hear the doorbell ring. "Are you expecting anyone?" He asks slowly making his way to the door. "No.." she says walking closely behind him.

He opens the door and finds Doctor Agasa with papers in his hands. "Hakase? Aren't you back early?" Haibara says confused. "Yes and I have a surprise, come to the living room." Doctor Agasa walks past them and they both look at each other before closing the door and walking towards him.

"So what's the surprise?" Conan asks eager. "My newest invention won in the people's choice award so I'm invited to the congratulations party today, and I'm allowed to bring anyone I want." Haibara perks up and smiles at him. "Oh wow that's great Hakase." She feels happy for him because she has seen him work hard in his lab for the past few weeks. "Thank you Ai-kun, so anyways I was thinking of inviting you guys and the other 3 kids, what do you say?" He asks looking at them.

Conan looks at Haibara and thinks. 'Haibara hasn't really slept and a party is tiring for her, I think we should cancel-' his thoughts were cut off by Haibara speaking. "Of course Hakase, we'll go." Haibara says looking at Conan, he gives her a look that says 'are you serious?' she rolls her eyes and looks back at Doctor Agasa.

"Great, I'll call the kid's parents then, the party's at 6 pm, get ready at 5 okay?" Doctor Agasa says and leaves to go to his room.

Conan turns to Haibara. "Why would you agree? You haven't slept and you're obviously tired, also I thought you didn't like parties." Conan says approaching her. "I told you, I'm used to being awake for 48 hours." 'although it's getting harder since I don't do it as much these days.' she thought. "Also didn't you see Hakase? He was so excited, I've watched him work on that invention and finally he's getting acknowledged, I can't not go with him to his congratulations party." She says proving her point. Conan sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.

"Okay fine but you'll eat a decent meal while resting." He sighs. "Okay?" She says and sits down on the couch, opening her magazine.

Kudo Mansion, 5:07 pm..

Conan was getting ready in his house, he wore his usual suit with his red bowtie and red matching shoes, he fixed his hair and was heading out to Doctor Agasa's house.

Meanwhile in Doctor Agasa's house, Haibara was wearing a black dress with glittering stars at the ends, she fixed her hair and heard the doorbell. She yawned as she walked downstairs to open the door. She found the 3 kids standing there. "Hii Ai-chan! How are you?" Ayumi asked walking in, the two boys following behind her.

"I'm good and you?" Haibara says sitting down on the couch. "Yep all good." Ayumi answers her. "Where's Conan-kun?" Mitsuhiko asks looking around. "Probably getting ready." She answers, and they hear a doorbell a min later. "That must be him!" Ayumi says as she and Haibara get up to open the door.

"Oh hello there Ayumi-chan." Conan says walking in. "Hi Conan-kun." Ayumi says as they walk back to the couch. "Alright guys are you ready, we'll be leaving now." Doctor Agasa says coming in.

"My my Hakase, is that you?" Haibara teases as she sees Doctor Agasa wearing a white tux and a small hint of cologne can be smelled. He smiles at her and shows off his suit making all of them laugh together. "Come on let's go so we're not late." Doctor Agasa says as they all leave.

They reach the place where the party will be taking place in, they walk in and find lots of people. "There are so many people here." Genta says looking around. "Probably other contestants who won." Mitsuhiko says as they walk to one of the tables.

They wait there for a few mins for the host to start, Haibara yawned and finally the lights turned off and a spotlight was shining on to the stage. "Welcome everyone, thank you for coming to this wonderful event today. This is a congratulations party for all of our amazing inventors, please let me welcome you, the man who made this ceremony, Thoma Lao!" The guy announced as the spotlight hits another person walking on the stage.

Everyone claps for him as he shows his smirk. "Thank you, thank you ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for coming everyone, let me start by saying how grateful I am to have reached this point in my life..." The man continues on and on.

Haibara yawns for the millionth time, a few mins later they bring menues for dessert only and give them to people. Genta quickly orders half the menu while the others order drinks and sweets.

Haibara let Doctor Agasa eat whatever today since it was a special day for him. After they were done, the man came onto the stage again. "We will be announcing the congratulates soon."

"I can't wait!" Ayumi says excitedly. "You're finally noticed old man." Conan says and Doctor Agasa let out a nervous chuckle. The man named 'Thoma Lao' steps up on the stage again with a big smile on his face.

"And now, we will bring out the amazing inventions first won by some of the guests." One after another, they were bringing each invention, some were really big and others were small.

"Now that we're done, I'll call the person one by one, you are then to come up on stage and receive your present, then please stand next to your invention."

The guy clears his throat and calls people's names one by one. "Doctor Musho, winner of the best summary telecharger." "Doctor Aaron, winner of the most unique turbo bicycle." Doctor Agasa was getting nervous everytime the man spoke.

"Doctor Agasa, winner of best people's choice." The kids clapped for him as he walked up on stage, he claimed his prize and stood beside his invention. After the man was done the crowd clapped for all the winners.

"Thank you everyone and thank you to the winners for participating and showing us your amazing inventions, the world needs more people like you!" Haibara stares proudly at Doctor Agasa and a tear fell down her face, no one noticed since they were all busy clapping.

Doctor Agasa looked at her and smiled a warm smile, their bond was a wholesome one. They both considered eachother family.

Science Hall, 7:56 pm..

As the winners were told to step off the stage, the lights went out. "Huh? Did the electricity cut off?" Mitsuhiko asked. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard. "Nobody make a sound, we're armed and will shoot if anyone tries something, keep your mouths shut and listen to what I will say." A guy said with a mask on his face, there were many others with mask on their faces too. "Woman and children stand near the left wall and men stand near the stage." There were little movements. "Quickly!" The man yelled and the people hurriedly did what he ordered them to do.

Conan was thinking of a way to call the police without the bad guys knowing, but the service was cut off. "Where's the manager here?" The man asked. "I am the manager." Thoma Lao said. "You will give me all the winners money and also everyone's wallets in here." The man said and he spotted the inventions on the stage. "You, your invention seems expensive, I'll take it." The man said. The guy just nodded nervously and remained silent.

"Shït what do we do, there's no service here, they must've cut it off." Conan says as he hears cries of a woman from beside him. "Hey! You woman, shut up." The guy said and the woman got scared and tried to stop her tears from falling. "I said shut up." "She's obviously scared, how can she not cry when you're holding us hostage." A girl said and everyone turned towards her direction.

"Haibara what are you doing?" Mitsuhiko whispered. "You talk back little girl." The man said approaching her, even though she isn't really little. She kept her normal bored face and that pissed off the man, she didn't look scared. "I'll show you." The man said and pulled Haibara with him. "Ai-chan no!" Ayumi shouted. Conan grabbed her hand and strongly pulled her back.

The guy stared at him and pointed the gun at him. "Let go of her little boy." But Conan stayed, Haibara then removed her hand from Conan's grasp. "I'll come with you but keep the gun to yourself." Haibara said, Conan then was about to interrupt but she gave him a look.

"Correct answer little girl." The man said and pulled her with him, he tied her hands and sat her down on the floor. "If anyone makes one wrong move I'll shoot the little lady." Conan clenched his jaw and stared at the man.

Suddenly, sirens were heard and police barged through the doors. "This is the police, release the hostages, you are surrounded around the whole building." The guy was shocked and let out a frustrated groan. "We shut off the service didn't we? How did anyone manage to make a phone call?" He yelled at his companions, the guys just shrugged.

"Don't come any closer! I have a child in my hands and I will shoot!" The guy said and the police stood there. The guy was holding Haibara, aiming a gun at her head, Conan quickly clicked on his belt and released a ball, he charged his shoes and kicked the ball straight at his face. The man fell down clutching his face, letting go of Haibara.

The police rushed over and cuffed the bad guys. Conan and the kids rushed over to Haibara along with Doctor Agasa. "Ai-kun are you alright?" Doctor Agasa asks worried. "I'm fine Hakase, he did nothing." She answered, the kids let out their relieved sighs and Genta asks. "How did the police get here?" "Oh yea, the service was cut off." Mitsuhiko says.

"I called them using the keychain phone without them noticing." Doctor Agasa says scratching his head. "Nice one Hakase." Conan says and they all laugh.

They then leave the building and start to head home. "Congratulations Hakase!" They all said once again in the car, Haibara yawned and rested her shoulder on Conan's, no one paid attention though since they were talking with Doctor Agasa, Conan kissed the top of her head and let her sleep till they reach their house. "You know you were really brave back there." Conan whispers to her. "Mhm I'm not an actual little girl you know." She whispers back, her eyes still closed. "But I'm the one who has to protect you, don't try anything like that again." He says assuring her. "Being all protective doesn't suit you that much." She says teasing him. "I wasn't trying to act that way-" he says confused. She just shushes him and slowly drifts off to sleep. Secretly, she liked that side of him.
