Chapter 19: Trader Joe's and Starbucks

(Maya’s POV)

The food was amazing who knew the guys could cook and the night with Liam was perfect. “I’m glad you didn’t go back to Nebraska tonight,” Liam told me as we ate dinner. “Yeah me too, “ I said with a smile. “You know I meant what I said in the car,” He assured me. I just nodded, I didn’t want to talk about it right now. My emotions were still a little too high for my liking and I didn’t want to ruin the night. I wanted to live in the moment and not let my mind wonder, even if that was going to be harder than it sounded.

“Are you okay?”Liam asked. “Yeah, it’s just been a long day and I’m exhausted,” I explain to him. “Do you think about Carter still?” He questioned me. I looked at him puzzled, why was he bring this up now? Was he trying to ruin everything he had done for me? I mean was this some type of their stupid pranks?

“Why do you ask that?” I asked. “I know you do,” He told me. I looked at him not know what to say. I’m not sure what he was trying to get me to say. “Is that a problem?” I snapped. “No, it’s just I think its holding us back as a couple,” He told me. “WOW there! Are you trying to ruin this perfect night!” I cried. I must have caught Liam off guard because he dropped his fork and jumped a little in his chair.

“Love, I didn’t mean it like that. I understand if you think about him. He was very special to you. I just feel like sometimes you are afraid to open up again fully,” He expressed.  I looked at my food and twirled my fork in it. He had a point ever since Carter had died I was scared to commit myself hundred percent to someone, even Liam. I kept my guard up even to this day and it has almost been a year that we have been together.

“You’re right,” I admitted. To my surprise he didn’t celebrate his victory or anything he just reached across the table and grabbed my hand. “It’s okay, M, I understand. Take your time to heal, I’m not going anywhere,” He said softly. I looked up at him and smiled. “Why did you bring it up?” I asked him. “I know it has been bothering you lately, and I know that’s why you wanted to go back to Nebraska, because you feel like if you are there he is with you somehow,” Liam explained to me.

“How do you know all of that?” I questioned him as I took a bite of food. “I know you better then you think I do,” He promised.  

(Flashback)

“Maya! Where are you?!” Carter yelled from the top of the stairs. “Coming! Sorry!” I yelled as I ran up the stairs. “You are always late, no matter what time of day you start getting ready.” He laughed as I met him at the top of the stairs. He embraced me into a hug and I hugged him back. “You know you really need to work on the whole being on time thing,” He joked. “You know me well enough to know I will forever be running late,” I joked back. “That’s for sure, I know a lot more about you then you think,” He told with a wink. I laughed. I soon pulled away from the hug and walked outside. “Where are you going now?” He cried as he followed after me. “We don’t want to be late!” I hollered as I got in my car.

(End of Flashback- The next day)

I woke up to find Liam already gone. He had a long day of press and I didn’t have to go to these ones. I was happy about that, finally a day to myself.  I rolled out of bed and decided to get ready so I could go get breakfast at Starbucks.

Maya: Going to Starbucks without you guys breaks my heart! Bring Lux back!

Lou: I miss you too darling! We will visit soon! Get coffee for me (:

Soon I was ordering my White Salted Caramel Mocha and a morning bun. I found a place to sit and scrolled through twitter. The guys had been promoting all morning and it was all I saw, but then I saw a tweet that broke my heart.

@BRIngMeCake honey he’s gone you got a new man just move on already but don’t worry I still love you. XOXO

I knew that Bri’s tweet was about me I had stayed up after Liam went to bed talking to her about what happened yesterday.

Maya: Nice tweet Bri. Glad you still love me.

I finished up my bun, I would take my drink to finish on the drive to Trader Joe’s to pick up some food for the house. Usually Liam would want to go with me, but we were running low and I didn’t want to still at home all day now that I was mad at Bri.

Serra: I refuse to go to our Starbucks knowing you aren’t there anymore!

Maya: Aww! Just move out to LA and we can go to my favorite one together! I was just there actually!

When I got to Trader Joe’s it was pretty busy. My plan was to get what I needed and get out.

Liam: Good morning love! I hope you are having a good day! I’ll be home as soon as I can and I promise no surprises tonight. Love you!

Maya: Love you too, Lee. I have had enough surprises today and its only like 11. Do you want anything special from Trader Joe’s?

As I shopped accordingly to Liam’s list I noticed people staring at me. Yes it happens all the time, but I didn’t like when I wasn’t with everyone else and I was alone.

Bri: Sorry, but it’s true. The truth hurts but you have to accept it.

Maya: Yeah I know that, but you could have kept it off the social media.

(Liam’s POV)

“What is Maya doing today?” Harry asked. “Starbucks and food shopping,” I told him as we got into our van. “Think she can get me some apple juice?” He asked me. “I’ll ask her,” I told her as I pointed to my phone.

Liam: Haz wants to know if you will pick him up some apple juice.

Maya: I figured he would ask so I got a couple.

“She is getting good at this,” I pointed out. Harry looked at me confused so I figured I should probably explain. “She already bought some knowing you would ask.” Niall laughed. “She’s a keeper if she buys Haz’s apple juice supply,” Louis joked. I nodded as I laughed. “Dude, when are you going to pop the question?” Niall asked. “Why the rush?” I asked him.  “Well, with a tour and stuff coming up next year we had just figured you guys would get married before that,” Louis said bluntly.

It felt like my eyes had popped out of my skull. “We are taking things slow,” I told them.

(Maya’s POV)

I had to make a stop at Target to get Pringles for Liam and a shirt I had been dying to get. When I got home I put the groceries away and grabbed a Doctor Pepper out of the fridge.

Liam: On my way, can’t wait to see you!

Maya: You are coming home already?!

Liam: Missed you too.

Maya: Hurry home then! I’ll make a late lunch.

Liam: You know the way to my heart.

I turned my Pandora on and started to make lunch. “You will never guess what the guys asked me,” Liam said as he walked through the kitchen. “What did they ask you?” I asked him. “They asked when we were going to get engaged,” He told him. “What…wait..engaged?” I mumbled. “Yeah, its crazy,” He sighed as he washed his hands so he could help me make lunch. “Is that something you want?” I asked him a couple minutes later.

He didn’t say anything just continued to cut the veggies. “I was going to ask you last night,” he practically mumbled. “WHAT!” I cried. “Yeah, that’s why I asked about Carter and everything, but the way you answered made me second guess my decision. You made it clear without even saying anything that you weren’t ready to be engaged again,” Liam explained to me. I put the noodles into the pan of boiling water and then faced Liam. “Lee, if it’s with you then I’m ready for anything. Yeah, Carter’s death changed me but still life goes on and I have to accept that, I mean it’s weird to think someday I will marry someone and that someone won’t be Carter, but that’s a fact I will have to be willing to face.” 

Liam didn’t say anything for a little bit, which hurt more than I thought it would.  “Maya, I want to tell you something,” Liam told me as we finished up making lunch in silence. “And what would that be?” I asked him.

He turned me so I was looking at him and grabbed my hands. “I love you so much I don’t even understand it at times. When I wake up in the morning and you are still snuggled up to me I just wait until you wake up because I don’t want to wake you. I count the minutes until I get home the days we are apart because I just want to be with you.  I never thought I could love someone has much as I love you. You have changed my life for good and I never want you to leave. I would go crazy if ever left. Maya of course I want to marry you. So will you marry me?” Liam asked as he pulled out a ring.

I was speechless. “Oh my gosh! Yes!” I exclaimed as I pulled my hands away from him so I could hug him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him as tight as I possibly could.  A few minutes later Liam slides the ring on my finger. I watched as it sparkled into the light. “I’m so glad you found me,” I assured him. “I’m glad I found you too,” He laughed as he kissed me.
