Chapter 16: Surprise?

08:12, 17 July 2014

(Liam’s POV)

It was amazing to be able to spend time with Maya and not be interrupted by anything. “Lee!” Maya cried from the kitchen. I didn’t even want to know what was going to happen in there but yet I was still curious.

@_Real_Liam_Payne about to enter the danger zone @_MayaMay_ just called for help in the kitchen. If I don’t come out alive you know who to blame!

I laughed as I posted my tweet. “Liam! Seriously?!” Maya whined. I knew she had seen the tweet, which made me laugh even more. “Coming darling dearest!” I chimed as I entered the kitchen. “Why must you post embarrassing tweets about me?” She complained. “Because you love me and you think its funny,” He smiled at her. “Yes, it is so funny I forgot to laugh,” she said dryly. I laughed and looked her waiting for her to laugh but she never did.

“You know you never told me what bugging you when we were at lunch,” I reminded her. “Yeah, I know,” she said. I looked over at her I could tell she was making brownies, which meant she was upset. When something was bothering Maya and she didn’t want to talk about it she would bake.

When I was in the hospital she made way to many brownies and cookies, we didn’t know what to do with them. “Put the brownie batter down and tell me,” I demanded, but as usual she didn’t listen to me.

“If you are going to make all this stuff I will have to eat it,” I assure her. She laughed a little, but didn’t say anything. “You call me out here, but don’t say anything,” I mention. “Yeah, sorry,” she mumbled.

“Maya, c’mon what’s wrong?” I asked her. “Jane,” she whispered.  I sighed heavily. “What did she do this time?” I asked her.  “She wanted to talk,” she told me after a few minutes of silence. “Well, did you talk to her?” I asked as I got a water bottle out of the fridge. “No, I told her I was busy,” she said as she put the brownies into the oven.

I took a drink of my water and walked closer to her. I didn’t say anything, I didn’t want to upset her more then she already was.

Ruth: Did you guys get settled in?

Liam: Yes, we did. Sorry I didn’t text you sooner we were getting lunch and such.

Ruth: No big deal, just wanted to check.

(Maya’s POV)

I knew I had to talk to Jane, but I wasn’t ready. I didn’t care that she was sorry she never meant to hurt me and then she would promise she would never do it again. It was the same line of lies each time something happened between us.

As we grew older our relationship shifted into an awkward stage. I thought it was just a phase and it would go away but it never did. She usually just talked about herself all the time and I would pretend to care. I really never talked about my problems because I knew she wouldn’t listen. I also knew if I said something was wrong with me she would turn the conversation on herself so I didn’t even try.

It wasn’t always like that we use to get along so well and we knew we could trust each other with very secret we had, but now I know that isn’t true. I guess it’s a part of growing up and finding out who is really there for you.  It hurts because we are family, but I knew this was coming. I knew she would change everyone does. We use to be best friend and we did everything together, but I knew that wouldn’t be the case anymore.

I couldn’t forgive her for what she did. She crossed the line and no matter how many times she tries to apologize I will never be able to fully her forgive her. I would have never got attacked by fans if that rumor wasn’t released. Management wouldn’t have to work overtime to make sure it was all sorted out. I wouldn’t have had to overload on posting on social media about Liam and the guys and how amazing they are. Things would have been different.

I looked at Liam; you could tell he was frustrated that I wasn’t telling him everything that was going on. He drank his water in silence as he stared at the wall. “Lee,” I whispered.  He looked at me. I smiled at him and handed him a cookie. He chuckled and took it from me. “You are something else,” He declared. “I know,” I sighed.  “But this are amazing just like always,” He tells me as he takes a bite of the cookie.

I smiled at him. I know I could confide in him, but I wasn’t ready to open the door to the feelings that Jane has caused. I couldn’t allow myself to dwell on the situation at the moment. I had to enjoy my time with Liam before he went to LA for a few days with the guys for a bunch of press.  I didn’t know for sure if I would go with them yet, I had the choice to go or not. “Do you want to go see your parents?” Liam asked me.

“If you want too,” I shrugged. “I would love too,” he told me. I smiled at him. We waited for the brownies to be done and then we headed over to my parents’ house. “I miss your little sister so much!” Liam exclaimed on our way there. “You miss Jamie?” I asked him in shock. “Well, duh, we pull pranks on you together,” He joked.

I just laughed. I drove in silence for awhile I listened to Liam ramble on about how he missed the guys and how he was going to take so many pictures to show them. He also noted that he was going to need new pillows to take to LA with him along with snacks.

“Welcome home!” Jamie exclaimed as she threw the door back. I laughed as we entered the house. “Hey everyone is here,” I said in shock. “Yeah, they missed you so we invited them. Hope you don’t mind,” My mom said with a smile. Of course I mind. I was looking for a quiet night with my sisters, parents, and Liam, not the whole family.  I looked at Liam who looked as shocked as I did. We set down on the love seat and talked for what seemed like hours with my family.

“How are you feeling Liam?” My mom asked. “Much better thank you, I wouldn’t have been able to get through that if it wasn’t for Maya, that’s for sure,” Liam assured her with a smile.  I thought back to that very weird two weeks.  I smiled and looked at Liam. You could tell he had been sick because of the weight loss and he hasn’t shaved in a couple days.  “You need to get meat back on them bones,” My dad joked.

“I agree,” Liam laughed. There was a knock on the door and soon Jane walked in with some boy who looked like someone I knew but I couldn’t remember where I had seen him or who he was.  “Hey everyone,” She greeted us. Everyone expect me greeted them. She walked in with him and set down on the couch across from us.

“Are you okay?” Liam whispered to me. I just nodded.

Louis: Tell that boyfriend of yours to answer the phone.

“Lee, Louis says to answer your phone,” I tell him. “Seriously? Is it important?” He asked me. I could feel everyone staring at us. “I’m not sure, he didn’t say, just go and call him,” I suggest.

(Liam’s POV)

I walked out to the back deck and call Louis.

“Aye Mate!” Louis cried as he answered his phone.

“What’s going on Louis?” I asked him slightly annoyed.

“Didn’t you hear the news?” He asked me.

I walked around on the deck as Louis explained to me all the details. I don’t know how Maya was going to take this.

(Maya’s POV)

“I wish we could stay for dinner, but it looks like Liam is a little distracted,” I mentioned as I watched Liam circle the deck. “Do you think everything is alright?” Jane asked. I didn’t say anything on purpose. She had no right to know what was going on after the stunt she pulled with the media.

“Maya, can we go please?” Liam asked as he walked back in. “Yeah, you two go if you need too, we understand,” my mom told him with a smile. You could tell by the look on Liam’s face our car ride back to the apartment was not going to be pleasant. “We will be by tomorrow,” Liam assured her. “No worries, we’ll get together soon,” My dad told him.

“Are you okay?” I asked him as we walked to the car. He didn’t say anything. “Alright cool,” I huffed as I got in. We drove home in an awkward silence. Liam was texting so fast I thought he was going to pull a thumb muscle or something.

“Alright talk!” I demanded as we entered the apartment. “Management thinks we should do some huge interview about why I was in the hospital and what made us come back to the US so fast,” Liam sighed. He was so upset he couldn’t even look at me. “I would have to explain everything,” I said in disbelief. “But how do they know?” I asked him. “I’m not sure. They probably think if we do this interview they will find out,” Liam said.

I couldn’t do this interview and tell everyone that wasn’t going to work. I had to tell my family first before it was printed everywhere. “I can’t…I mean…it’s not...” I mumbled. I watched as Liam set down on the couch and put his face into his hands. “It’s not going to be easy, Maya, but I think you should do it,” He said.

“Why? You know I don’t want anyone to know,” I reminded him. “I know, but its better then what management can make us do,” He groaned.  I set down next to him but made sure to leave him some space so it didn’t feel like I was on top of him. “What do you mean?” I asked, but soon I realized I didn’t want the answer.

“We tell them the truth then promise not to tell anyone, and then they make up so bogus lie about why we rushed back and we have to live with that lie until we are in the ground,” Liam explained to me.  “I can’t lie,” I practically whispered.

“When do we do the interview?” I asked a few minutes later. “Are you sure?” He asked me. “Yeah, I don’t want to lie,” I groaned. I didn’t want to do any of this, but I knew I had to, but first I had to tell my parents.

Maya: Do you guys mind coming over…I need to tell you something I should have told you a long time ago.

Soon my family was in my small living room staring eagerly at me waiting for me to talk. I soon explained everything to them. “Are you serious?” was all my mom managed to say. “Why?” was all my dad asked. “How did you not know before?” was what Jamie repeated over and over again.

I could feel the tears form in my eyes. “I don’t that time was all a blur to me I just thought everything was due to stress, until I got really sick and couldn’t handle it anymore.” I told him. Liam stayed close just in case I needed him. “Now I have to tell the world my secret, and I hate it, but I know I have too,” I cried.  “Why didn’t you ever tell us?” My mom asked. “I was embarrassed. I mean how could I not know I was pregnant for two months and then proceed to miscarry. Mom, that’s terrible,” I explain to her. “Honey, sometimes you never know until something like that occurs,’ She assures me.

My parents left soon after due to the fact I needed time to process everything. I didn’t know how on Earth I was going to tell something I had never wanted to speak of again, but know it’s the only way to help Management at bay.

“What is the real reason you never told anyone about it?” Liam asked me as we laid in bed. I set up and sighed. “Honestly, it’s not because I never figured it out before it’s because I lost the only piece of Carter I had left. I had a feeling I might have been pregnant, but I never acted on I thought it was all stressed related. But that day when they said the baby had died, I had lost everything to deal with Carter. His parents had already lost him why throw a grandchild they would never get to meet in the mix,” I explained to him.

It was dark but I could feel Liam’s worried eyes look at me. “I thought if I didn’t tell anyone I wouldn’t be hurting anyone other than myself. They were finally starting to be happy again, if they had found out about the baby it would have mess everything up. I thought I was protecting them.” I continued.

I knew Liam wasn’t going to say anything I mean if someone just told me that I wouldn’t know what to say either. I felt his arm wrap around my back. “You still seem to amaze me each day and I love that about you,” He whispered.

“How did I amaze you today?” I asked complete shock by his response. “I don’t know you just did,” He told me. I didn’t know if I should feel happy for sad, but I know I’m confused.
