The End:
23:17, 26 October 2014Chapter Twenty:
Inuyasha watched, shaking slightly and still overcome with the emotional terror of losing Kimi, as her body slowly floated over to him.
The light slowly faded from her fingertips in, until nothing but her eyes were glowing. Her feet slowly came in contact with the ground before him, lowering her until she stood at his chest.
The short beautiful green eyed girl Inuyasha loved stood up on her tiptoes and pressed her still warm lips to his softly.
He kissed back, with such ferocity that he still kissed her, tears streaming down his face, when she fell limp in his arms.
He sobbed and fell to the floor, clutching her body to his as the tears rolled down his cheeks and to the floor. The pain inside him was gut wrenching, slowly tearing him apart the longer he held his beloved to him. He felt as if someone had wrapped his heart and lungs around a freezing cold knife and slowly cut his vital organs open while they watched in pleasure as he suffered.
He had never felt pain like this before. Not even when his mother died.
Inuyasha slowly begun to notice the other surrounding him, his insides still numb and his arms refusing to let the dead body of Kimiko Higurashi go.
Sango sobbed quietly into the crook of Miroku’s neck while the grave monk shed his own tears. Sesshomaru’s head was hung low as he held a crying Lili and Rin in his arms tightly. Shippo and Kirara held each other in a shaking Kagura’s arms, Shippo almost drowning in his tears.
Kagome, however, was the loudest of them all, wailing into a crying Koga’s chest at the loss of her cousin and best friend.
They didn’t hear the clattering sounds as the complete Shikon Jewel rolled down the steps and towards Inuyasha, stopping once it had nudged the barely hanging hanyou.
Inuyasha picked it up, tears once again brimming his golden eyes as he held it up.
He wanted to shatter it.
The stupid orb was the cause of Kimi’s death. If it had never been created no one would be here and Kimi would be safe.
But he froze.
‘If it hadn’t been created…he would’ve never met her…’
The thought instantly appalled him. He couldn’t imagine life without her anymore. It just wasn’t…possible. He wasn’t able to comprehend the thought much less live through it.
“Inuyasha…” Miroku sniffled, snatching the despaired hanyou out of his thoughts.
“Didn’t that bring back Kikyou?”
Inuyasha barked out a laugh, causing the others turn to him fearfully.
“No. An old witch and her magic did.” Inuyasha snarled the words, closing his clawed fingers around the orb in hatred.
“You don’t think you could wish for Kimi back?” Kagome asked quietly, her voice no louder then a mouse.
Everyone fell silent.
“C-could I?” Inuyasha’s voice broke at the thought, his eyes staring at the Shikon No Tama in a new light. “Is…it even possible?”
Kagome broke from Koga’s arms and fell to the floor next to Kimi’s body. “It never hurts to try.”
Inuyasha mentally snapped at that comment. If it didn’t work then yes…it hurt very much. But he didn’t want any bad thoughts to bring bad luck. He hoped and prayed this would work.
“Inuyasha should be the one to do it. If Kimi could come back…she’d only come back for him…” Sesshomaru stated silently, his arms still wrapped around Lili’s shaking body.
Inuyasha took a deep breath, actually mentally preparing himself for the possibility of this not working, and clutched the Shikon Jewel to his chest.
“Please…bring her back.” His voice shook, cracking up to a higher octave. His hand shook as well as he pressed the glowing purple orb to Kimi’s chest, right were the hole was and right where her heart was supposed to be beating.
The jewel seemed to melt into her skin, completely disappearing in mere seconds, and everyone but Inuyasha stepped back. They waited silently in anticipation.
Ten minutes went by…nothing happened.
Inuyasha stayed by her side, tears beginning to fall once more as he searched desperately for any sign that it had worked.
A full day passed. Inuyasha’s tears dried and the numbness returned, the aching hole where his heart was beginning to freeze over.
“Inuyasha…it didn’t work.” Sango spoke softly, her voice filled with grief, as she placed a small hand on the hanyou’s shoulder.
Inuyasha swallowed thickly, unable to comprehend what she was implying.
“We need to leave, brother. Or we’ll die here as well. Kimi wouldn’t have wanted that.” Sesshomaru spoke from the shadows.
Inuyasha gathered Kimi’s body in his arms weakly, his ear folded flat against his head as he slowly made his way towards the entrance of the cave. He spoke to no one, so overwhelmed in grief and depression that the words couldn’t form on his tongue. He simply couldn’t speak.
He walked for days, the others shadowing along behind him, until he found the most suitable place he could find.
The meadow was beautiful and Inuyasha wished Kimi were there to see it. There was a soft stream ran through it, allowing large willow trees to grow and the most amazing exotic flowers to grow. He sat down, cradling her corpse in his lap for a few moments before pressing his lips to her cold stone ones lightly.
“I love you.”
He lied her down on the grassy earth floor as he whispered the hoarse words. He took in a shaky breath and stood, turning back to his friends.
He was a few paces away when the meadow started to glow a pale purple. He blinked, fresh tears on the verge of spilling over, and looked back over his shoulder.
Kimi’s body twitched, bathed in a soft violet light, and she sat up. She stretched out and yawned, the light started to fade back up into her eyes. She seemed oblivious to it.
Inuyasha turned completely then, falling to his knees.
Kimi blinked once more, only her irises glowing, and turned to the sound, a small smile tugging at her lips when she saw Inuyasha. She stood and walked over to him, falling to her own knees in front of him. She used the pad of her thumbs to wipe his tears and then abruptly shut his mouth.
“You’ll catch flies that way.”
Inuyasha cried out and tackled her to the ground in a hug. Kimi let out an ‘oof’ and her eyes bulged out like a fish.
“Can’t….breathe…Inu…yasha…”
Inuyasha released her…mostly…and pulled her into his lap, his forehead pressed against hers.
“I…I thought I lost you.” He murmured, tears still flowing.
She smiled slightly and cupped his face in her palms, once more wiping his tears away.
“I love you too, Inuyasha.”
He blinked then, his golden eyes wide. She giggled lightly and pressed her lips to his.
He kissed back, laughing out in relief.
“How’d you know?” He asked when they pulled away for air, both a little out of breath.
She laughed. “All seeing magical coke. That shit does wonders!”
Inuyasha gave her a weird look and then shook his head.
“Nope, not even going to ask.”
She stood up and climbed out of his lap only to be tackled back down by Kagome and Shippo.
“Oh my god, you’re alive!!”
I blinked, once more crushed. Kagome climbed off and Shippo wailed.
Kagome’s expression turned from relief to shock.
“Your eyes!”
I squeaked.“W-what’s wrong with my eyes?”
Inuyasha sighed softly and slipped his hand into mine, tugging me towards the tiny stream. “Nothing’s wrong with your eyes.”
I stared at my reflection, one finger pulling my bottom right eyelid down while I stared at the strange color. Inuyasha tried not to laugh at the funny face I was making.
“They’re…purple.”
The irises were indeed purple, a soft violet color with pink swirls twirling and dancing around.
“And pink!” Shippo giggled from my shoulder.
I sighed and shook my head, blinking once to see if the colors would go away. Inuyasha held out a hand and pulled me into his arms. I smiled and buried my face in his chest, his warm musky scent washing over me. He pressed his lips into my hair and I realized it had come undone.
“Darn it.” I stepped back and started fixing my hair. Sango laughed and I looked up, smiling when I noticed how she leaned into Miroku for support. Lili sat in front of Sesshomaru, both watching us with relieved expressions. Kagura stood of to the side a little awkwardly, now holding a bouncing happy Shippo.
After I finished fixing my hair, Inuyasha took my hand, intertwining our fingers once more, and led me over to the rest of the group.
“Does your head hurt? Is your waist okay?”
I laughed and nodded. “I’m fine.”
I ran to Sango first, throwing my arms around both her and Miroku.
“I call being the Aunt/Godmother!!” Sango blushed and swatted at me while Miroku smiled, pleased.
“GROUP HUG!!!” Lili cried as everyone gathered around and hugged us.
We all laughed and fell back.
“So what now?” I giggled, my hand finding Inuyasha’s again.
“Well we defeated Naraku…I guess there’s no one to really save the world from anymore.” Kagome sighed, giving me a look.
“I’m taking him with me. I don’t care what you say.” I glowered at her, shuffling closer to Inuyasha.
She laughed. “Of course. Mom and Grandpa have already met him. We just have to worry about Koga.”
“You guys are going back to the future?” Shippo’s face fell. I sighed.
“Just for a little bit. Then…I think we’ll be back.” I smiled at the little hatsune reassuringly.
“Of course you will. You’ll have to visit us.” Lili grinned.
I shouldered my backpack, smiling lightly at my friends from Inuyasha’s back.
“We’ll be back soon!!!”
He jumped into Bone Eater’s Well, a bright purple light blinding us in a quick flash of light.
“Are you down there, Kimi?” My aunt called. Inuyasha jumped, scaling the wall until he was able to jump over the side. I smiled at my aunt.
“Yepp.”
“What happened to your eyes?” my grandpa barked, still glaring at Koga who was cowering behind a smiling Kagome.
“Inuyasha!” Sota ran and hugged the silver haired hanyou.
Kagome sat in between her mom and Koga, explaining to her mom, Sota, and Grandpa what all had happened. I lay sprawled out on Inuyasha’s lap, surfing through the TV channels. Every two minutes Aunt Nodoka and Sota would spare us a horrified glance, which I ignored, and my Grandpa would grin, flickering his excited eyes to us.
“Oh my goodness.”
“That’s amazing! So the Shikon Jewel is the cause of your eye color change?” Gramps held my face a few millimeters from his so he could examine my eyes properly. I scowled and jerked back, not liking the close proximity.
“Kimi…do you think Naraku meant your father was alive?”
I sent my Aunt a hard glance. “I’m going back to America. If anything he’ll have left some type of clue there.”
“But where will you get the money?”
I smiled at my family warily. “When my parent’s...‘died’…they left a lot of money in my name. How do you think I convinced the social workers to let me go to Japan?”
“Hey cool! Look the fair is in town!” Sota pointed to the TV as a commercial came on. I grinned, shifting in Inuyasha’s lap so I could get a better look.
“We should go!”
“Well you have school tomorrow. All four of you.” My aunt gave Koga and Inuyasha scary looks as she stood.
“It’s time for bed. Kagome, you and Kimi will have to share your room. Koga and Inuyasha, you will share Kimi’s room.”
I laughed at the incredulous look on Koga’s face and got up. “Inuyasha, you remember where my room is right?”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Kagome paled.
“I’m not sharing a room with a stinky wolf.” Inuyasha growled at me.
Koga jumped up, ready to kill a certain hanyou, and I snarled.
“SIT DOWN!” Koga fell back to the couch, pale, and Inuyasha fell to the floor with a loud grunt.
I turned and bent down. “Oops.”
“Ow.” Inuyasha groaned.
“Drama queen.” Koga scoffed.
“What’d you say, wolf?!” Inuyasha climbed up from the ground, his fists clenched tightly.
“BAD!” I pushed Inuyasha back onto the couch. “Stay!” Then I whirled on Koga.
“If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all!” I hissed at him, watching Inuyasha from the corner of my eye. He snickered at Koga and I turned, hitting him upside the head.
“Ow! What the hell was that for!?” He held his head and glared up at me.
“Same goes for you.”
He grumbled slightly to himself and my aunt sighed, a little startled.
“Do they always act this way?”
Kagome nodded. “The only time they didn’t was when…Kimi…yeah…” She trailed off, wincing.
Aunt Nodoka swallowed thickly and then sighed. “Fine, you two may sleep with them. But if I hear anything…ANYTHING…you will be in hoards of trouble. Got it?” She glared at us slightly.
Kagome blushed. “MOM!”
“Aww, don’t worry, Auntie! We wont do anything.” I smiled at her cheekily, tugging on Inuyasha’s ears.
She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Remember, school tomorrow. You need to wake up early.”
I groaned and jumped on Inuyasha’s back. “Onwards, Jeeves!”
He scowled and started up the stairs. “Good night.”
I giggled, pressing my lips to his cheek. He closed the door behind him and I yawned, searching the drawers for pajamas.
“What are you wearing to bed?”
He shrugged. “Dunno.”
“Would you like me to look for something for you? Or are you just going to wear that?” I turned pulling out a large old gray t-shirt. He sat on my bed, giving me a skeptical look, with his arms folded across his chest. I sighed and placed a hand on my hip.
“Is that a yes? Or no? Or what?”
“I’m fine. Just get ready for bed.”
I rolled my eyes and began to unbutton my jeans, stepping out of them when they fell to the floor.
“W-what are you doing?”
I looked over to Inuyasha, who was looking away, his cheeks turning pink, and laughed.
“What? It’s not like you haven’t seen me naked. Jeesh.” I pulled my shirt off and smirked at him. His blush deepened and I pulled the t-shirt over my head before crawling over him and kissing his nose.
“Damn it, Kimi! You’re making it very hard to respect your aunt’s wishes.” He growled at me, kissing my neck. I giggled, squirming. He stopped at sat back, watching me.
“That tickled.” I giggled sheepishly. He laughed and Aunt Nodoka poke her head in through the door, watching us suspiciously.
“What’s going on?”
“He’s tickling me!” I laughed.
She bit pressed her lips together and shook her head. “Don’t make too much noise.”
“Sorry Mrs. Higurashi.” Inuyasha smiled sheepishly.
My aunt smiled back. “I’ve already got you and Koga enrolled at the high school. Your first day will be tomorrow so you will need to pick up your schedules.”
“What grade will we be?” I asked, chewing on my lip.
“Since you technically already graduated in America, you will be senior. I was able to get Inuyasha in the same grade as you and most of the same classes. Kagome and Koga will be juniors.”
I grinned. “Thank you, Auntie.”
She smiled. “Go to sleep. We’ll see you in the morning.”
She flipped off the light and closed the door. I pulled back the comforter and crawled into the bed, motioning for Inuyasha to do the same. I snuggled up to his chest and grinned up at him.
“I love you.”
Inuyasha looks down, lips stretched into a warm smile. “I love you too.”
