Safe haven
04:33, 21 November 2024The next few days passed in a whirlwind. Jisung had spent more time than usual in the hospital, immersing himself in his studies and trying to keep his mind occupied. But despite his best efforts, the thoughts of Minho and the dangerous world he was tied to lingered at the back of his mind.
As much as he tried to convince himself that things were fine, that he could handle whatever came his way, a small part of him was still unsure. Could he really live in a world so far removed from his own? Could he be with someone like Minho, who was so deeply entrenched in something Jisung couldn't even begin to understand?
But one thing he knew for sure—he couldn't stay away from Minho. No matter the risks, no matter the uncertainty, there was a pull between them that he couldn't deny.
It was late in the evening when Jisung found himself at Minho's door again, this time with a feeling of calm certainty that had been missing before. He needed to see him, to feel his presence, to know that what they were building wasn't just a fleeting moment.
Minho opened the door almost immediately, as if he had been waiting for him. His expression softened when he saw Jisung standing there, a quiet warmth in his eyes.
"Hey," Minho said, stepping aside to let Jisung in. "You're looking better."
"I think I am," Jisung replied with a small smile, stepping inside. The familiar scent of Minho's apartment filled the air, and for some reason, it always made Jisung feel... safe.
Minho closed the door behind him, and before Jisung could even say anything, Minho was pulling him into a hug. The action was simple, but it was enough to erase the doubts that had been nagging at Jisung all week.
"You've been on my mind," Minho murmured against his hair, his voice soft but full of something Jisung couldn't quite name.
"I know," Jisung whispered back, resting his head against Minho's chest. The steady beat of his heart was comforting. "I've been thinking about you too. About everything."
Minho pulled back slightly, his hands resting on Jisung's shoulders as he looked at him with a mixture of concern and affection. "You're still unsure, aren't you?"
Jisung hesitated for a moment, but the honesty between them was something he couldn't ignore. "Yeah. I mean... I'm scared, Minho. Scared that everything is going to fall apart."
Minho's face softened. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you, Jisung. You're my priority, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
The sincerity in Minho's words made Jisung's heart flutter, but it also reminded him of the weight of what Minho was asking of him.
"But what if you can't?" Jisung asked quietly, his voice barely audible. "What if the things in your world... the things you're a part of, what if they come after me? What if I end up in too deep?"
Minho's eyes darkened, but there was no anger or frustration there—just determination. "Then I'll pull you out. No one is going to hurt you, Jisung. Not while I'm around."
Jisung looked up at him, his chest tightening at the strength in Minho's gaze. "And what about you? What happens to you?"
Minho's lips curled into a small, bitter smile. "I'm used to dealing with danger. It's part of the life I chose."
Jisung reached up, gently cupping Minho's face with both hands, forcing him to look him in the eyes. "I don't want you to get hurt because of me. I know you say you're used to it, but you don't have to carry it alone."
For a moment, Minho's eyes softened, and he leaned into Jisung's touch. "I never planned to carry it alone, Jisung. Not anymore. If you're willing to be with me, I want us to face everything together. All of it."
Jisung felt a warmth spread through his chest, something deep and grounding. He had always prided himself on being independent, on taking care of himself. But now, with Minho, he didn't feel the need to shoulder everything alone.
"I want to be with you too," Jisung said softly. "I don't know what it's going to look like or how things are going to turn out, but I want to try. I want us to try."
Minho smiled then, a smile so soft and genuine that it made Jisung's heart skip a beat. "We'll figure it out, Jisung. One day at a time."
The rest of the evening was spent in a peaceful silence, the kind that only comes when two people are truly comfortable in each other's presence. Minho cooked dinner—something simple, but somehow the way he moved in the kitchen made Jisung feel at home.
Later, they settled on the couch together, a quiet movie playing in the background. But neither of them was paying much attention to it. Instead, Jisung found himself resting against Minho's side, his fingers loosely intertwined with Minho's, the weight of the world outside fading into the background.
Minho, for once, seemed unguarded, his arm draped around Jisung's shoulders as if this moment was all he needed. There were no demands, no promises of forever—just the soft assurance that, for now, they were enough.
And that was all Jisung could ask for.
As they sat there, the soft flicker of the television casting shadows on the walls, Jisung finally allowed himself to relax. There were still questions in his mind, still the fear of the unknown, but Minho had given him something priceless that night: a sense of peace.
For the first time in days, Jisung felt like maybe—just maybe—the chaos of their worlds could find a way to coexist.
