Cracks in the armour
04:33, 21 November 2024The following days felt like they were moving in a blur. Jisung couldn't shake the memory of Minho's words, the way his voice had softened, the way his presence had made everything feel... safer.
But the reality of Minho's world still lingered in the back of Jisung's mind, a shadow that refused to be ignored.
He couldn't stop thinking about what Minho had said, about the mafia, the power, the dangers that came with it. And while he knew Minho wouldn't hurt him—he wanted to believe that—Jisung couldn't help but worry.
What if it was too much?
It was a Thursday afternoon when Jisung finally decided to confront Minho again. He couldn't keep avoiding the questions swirling in his head.
So, after a grueling day at the hospital, he texted Minho.
Jisung: Can I come by? I need to talk.
The reply came almost instantly.
Minho: Of course. I'll be waiting.
When Jisung arrived at Minho's apartment, his nerves were on edge. He stood in front of the door for a moment, taking a deep breath before knocking.
Minho answered quickly, his expression softening when he saw Jisung standing there.
"You okay?" Minho asked, stepping aside to let him in.
Jisung nodded, but his smile didn't reach his eyes. "Yeah. I just... we need to talk."
Minho raised an eyebrow, sensing the seriousness in Jisung's tone. "About what?"
Jisung exhaled slowly, trying to find the right words. "I've been thinking about everything you told me. About your world." He paused, searching Minho's face for any sign of what he was about to say. "And I just—"
He stopped, his heart pounding in his chest. It was hard to say out loud, but he needed to know. "I need to know if this is... if this is going to be too dangerous. For me. For us."
Minho's eyes darkened slightly, and Jisung instantly regretted the words.
"You think I'm a danger to you?" Minho asked quietly, his voice colder than usual.
"No!" Jisung quickly responded, stepping closer to Minho. "I don't think that. But your world... the things you're involved in... I don't know if I can keep walking into that and be okay."
Minho's expression softened, his guardedness slipping just enough for Jisung to see the hurt in his eyes. "I don't want to drag you into something you can't handle, Jisung. You're right to be scared. I am dangerous. My life is dangerous, and I can't promise you it won't affect you."
Jisung swallowed hard, the weight of his words hitting him harder than he expected. "But... you want me here. Even knowing all of that?"
Minho nodded, stepping closer. "More than anything. But I won't ask you to stay if you don't feel safe. You need to make the choice, Jisung. I can't do it for you."
Jisung's mind was spinning. He had never been one to back down from something he cared about, but this was different. This was a world so far removed from his own, a world that had its claws deeply embedded in Minho's life.
"I'm scared, Minho," Jisung admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "Scared of losing you. But also scared of getting pulled into something I don't understand."
Minho's eyes softened, and for a moment, he said nothing. He simply reached out, cupping Jisung's face gently in his hands.
"You won't lose me," he said, his voice low but steady. "And I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe. But if you feel like you can't handle this, I'll let you go. I won't keep you here if you don't want to be."
Jisung searched his eyes, feeling the sincerity in his words. It wasn't just the promises of protection—it was the way Minho had always been there, even when the world around him was chaos.
"I don't want to leave," Jisung said quietly. "But I need to know... if this is going to be something I can handle. If this is something we can handle."
Minho let out a slow breath, his thumb gently tracing over Jisung's cheek. "We don't have to have all the answers right now. But what I can promise you is that I'll always be here, no matter what. You're not in this alone, Jisung. Not ever."
Jisung's heart fluttered, and for the first time in days, he felt like he could breathe again.
"I don't know what the future holds," Jisung said, his voice steady despite the uncertainty. "But I want to try. I want to be with you. I just need to be sure... that we're doing this together. That you won't pull away, no matter how messy this gets."
Minho's lips curved into a small, reassuring smile. "I won't. I'm not going anywhere. I promise."
The conversation lingered between them as the evening wore on, but Jisung felt lighter, like a heavy weight had been lifted from his shoulders. There were no guarantees, no easy answers, but for the first time in a long time, he felt like he wasn't facing the world alone.
Minho didn't just want him in his life—he wanted to share it.
And that, in itself, was enough to make Jisung believe in this, in them.
As the night drew to a close, Minho walked Jisung to the door once again. This time, Jisung didn't try to rush out, didn't try to push the overwhelming feelings away. He stood there, looking up at Minho, whose expression had softened in the dim light.
"You're not alone, Jisung," Minho said softly, his voice full of promise.
Jisung smiled, his chest swelling with something warm and undeniable. "Neither are you."
And in that moment, with the weight of their worlds colliding and intertwining, Jisung realized that maybe, just maybe, they were exactly what each other needed.
