Part 72

18:30, 9 April 2026

Bowie let go of Liam's neck, her small face still blotchy but her breathing finally leveling out. Lennon and Gene didn't say a word; they simply moved in, one on either side of her, and led her toward the back of the trailer. Lennon kept a firm grip on her hand, while Gene grabbed a bag of sweets from the counter.

Liam stood up straight, his hands sliding into his parka pockets, 'you're right about one thing, Caro,' Liam muttered, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly vibration. 'I don't know him anymore either. The Noel I knew wouldn't let a woman breathe a word against his own flesh and blood, and especially not their own mother or stepmother'

Debbie stepped forward, placing a cautious hand on Liam's arm. 'Liam, don't do anything stupid. The kids are right there.'

'I'm not gonna do anything stupid, Debs,' Liam snapped, though his gaze remained fixed on the door. 'I'm gonna go do something very smart. I'm gonna go tell my brother exactly what his darling wife is doing to his family while he's busy tuning his guitars'

Before he could even get to the door, Caro jumped in front of him 'No..don't, Liam, please..don't give Sara any more ammunition to sabotage us. If you go over there now, then she'll threaten to shut the tour down and she'll send Bowie back to her mother and we both know..' Caro's voice lowered to a whisper 'that Mel is not able nor willing to take care of her, besides Sara will blame me again and splatter another seedy story about me over every tabloid. Listen..Bowie is safe here now with your lads, and Donovan and Sonny are with him..'

The conversation was interrupted by a sharp, intrusive ping from Caroline's pocket. As she pulled out her phone, her face went a ghostly, translucent white as she stared at the screen.

'Speak of the devil,' she whispered, her voice barely a breath.

'What is it?' Liam demanded, his eyes flashing. 'Is it him? Is it Noel crawling back?'

Caroline didn't answer. She simply turned the screen toward him. It wasn't a message from Noel. It was a formal, cold-blooded text from a contact saved as Henderson – Legal.

The message was clinical and designed to draw blood: "Ms. Di Benedetto, be advised that my client, Mrs.Sara Gallagher, has instructed me to begin formal proceedings against you. Your continued interference in the private domestic arrangements of the Gallagher family constitutes harassment and unlawful meddling in a sensitive family situation. Consider this a final warning: cease all contact with ALL MINORS in the Gallagher family, and remove yourself from the tour site immediately. Any further attempt to influence the minors relationship with their parents will result in an immediate suit for damages and a restraining order."

Liam's eyes were slits of blue fire as he read the screen. 'Meddling?' he hissed, the word vibrating with a dangerous, gravelly heat. 'Harassment? You're looking after a kid who was literally sobbing in the dirt, and this suit is calling it harassment? All Gallagher minors? So my kids as well? That bitch has nothing to say about my lads, she can't touch them!'

'This is next level, Liam,' Caroline said, her voice a jagged mix of terror and freezing fury. 'If I stay here, she'll sue me into the pavement because she can. She's twisting the truth, making me look like the predator while she plays the protector. She's isolating me,..and it's bloody well working.' She pushed herself away from the door, took a deep breath, and wiped tears of pure frustration from her eye.

The trap was set. If she so much as hugged Bowie or Lennon or Sonny now, Sara would use it to paint her as a predator or a kidnapper, giving the lawyers the green light to tear the family apart for good.

'Caro? Why are you crying?'

Bowie's voice was like a tiny bell in a storm. She scrambled off the bunk, her little arms outstretched, rushing toward the only person who always made the world feel safe.

Caroline's heart didn't just break; it shattered. she took a sharp, panicked step back, as if warding off a blow. 'Oh, B...I'm not crying..I just..I need to go check something..stay here with Uncle Liam and Aunt Debbie, yeah?'

At that exact moment, there was a knock on the door just before it opened. Noel stood there, his eyes wide and frantic as he saw Caroline's tear-streaked face, the blotchy red marks on her neck, and the way she seemed to be cowering away from his own daughter.

'What is it? What's going on?' Noel rasped, stepping over the threshold. He looked only at Caroline, ignoring the rest of the room. 'Caro? Why are you crying?'

Liam surged forward, the air in the trailer began to vibrate with suppressed violence. He stepped directly into Noel's path, a human wall of pure, unadulterated Mancunian rage.

'Oh, you want to know why she's crying, do ya, "Big Brother"?' Liam's voice began to rise, the gravelly rumble turning into a roar. 'You really want to know what kind of sick, twisted games your darling wife..'

'Liam, stop!' Caroline's voice cut through the air like a gunshot. She lunged between them, her palms pushing against Liam's chest with enough force to make him step back an inch. 'Keep your voice down! Look around you!'

She glanced back at Bowie, who was hiding behind Debbie. Liam stiffened under Caroline's hands, his nostrils flaring, but he subsided into a deadly, vibrating silence. He didn't take his eyes off Noel, looking every bit like a man doing a mental countdown to keep from lashing out.

'Talk to me, Caro,' Noel pleaded, his voice unsteady as he looked at her hands still resting on Liam's chest. 'What's going on?'

Caroline slowly lowered her hands, her face turning to stone. When she spoke, her voice was low, cold, and utterly devastating.

'I got a text from Henderson,' she hissed, her eyes boring into Noel's. 'On behalf of your lovely wife. She's threatening to sue me for "harassment" and "unlawful meddling." She's ordered me to stay away from Bowie. And from every other Gallagher minor, that includes Liam's children, too.'

Noel went ashen, but before he could even open his mouth to defend himself, Liam stepped into Noel's space again, his eyes hot with fury. 'You hear that? Your "darling wife" is coming for my kids now? She's putting my lad's names in legal threats? Who the hell does she think she is?'

Liam's hands were out of his pockets now, trembling with the sheer force of him trying not to wrap them around Noel's throat. 'I've sat back and watched you let her treat everyone like dirt for years, but this? Threatening Caro for looking after your own daughter? Trying to ban her from my house and my kids?'

Liam let out a harsh laugh that sounded more like a bark. 'I'm doing everything in my power not to flatten you right now, Noel. Everything..'.

Caroline saw Bowie suddenly clap her hands over her ears, while Lennon and Gene were getting restless. The trailer was no longer a safe haven; it was a powder keg about to blow.

'Enough!' Caroline hissed. She stepped between the two brothers, slamming her hand onto Noel's chest with startling force. 'You. Out. NOW!'

she commanded, her voice vibrating with an authority that silenced even Liam.

She drove him out of the trailer and down the metal steps, steering him away from the prying eyes of the roadies and sound techs. She didn't stop until they were tucked into a dimly lit concrete corridor behind a mountain of flight cases.

Noel's face was a mask of confusion. 'Caro, what the hell is going on? I..don't know..what..' he stammered in genuine shock.

Caro fished her phone out of her pocket and showed him Henderson's text, seeing the shock on his face grow, Caro straightened her jacket 'What do you and her want from me, Noel? I'm so fuckin' done with her, she needs to back off, I know I'm barking up the wrong tree and I know that you two..are back together again and giving your marriage another go..but I..can't take it anymore, Noel,..this needs to stop, I..' Caroline's voice finally cracked, the professional facade shredding right in front of him. She leaned back against the cold, iron edge of a flight case, her breathing coming in hitches as she desperately fought to hold back the tears, she wasn't gonna give him that satisfaction. 'I'm done, Noel. I am physically, mentally, and fuckin' emotionally exhausted.'

Noel took a deep breath 'Caro...' he began, his voice hoarse with disbelief. He took a step toward her, but stopped when he saw the look in her eyes. It wasn't just anger anymore; it was pure, raw defeat.

'Don't you "Caro" me,' she snapped, lifting her chin despite the tears now streaming down her face. 'She's coming for my integrity. She's coming for my right to love those kids. She's using your lawyers to chase me off like a stray dog! And you? You stand there and let it happen because you're terrified of the row waiting for you at home.'

She snatched her phone back from his hand. 'I know you're trying to get back on track with her. I know you're smitten with her. But if this is the price, if I have to sacrifice my job, my reputation, and my bond with Bowie and the other kids, then you're on your own. I'm not doing it anymore, Noel. I can't...I can't live with the constant threats of lawsuits and getting me kicked out of the tour..'

Noel looked toward the corridor leading back to Liam's trailer, then back at Caroline. The reality that his "new start" was built on the total destruction of the people who had actually been there for him hit him once again like a physical blow.

Noel let out a long, heavy breath, the last of his composed rock-star persona shattering to reveal the raw, hunted man beneath. He didn't just take a step; he moved in one possessed motion, driving her back until she was pinned against the freezing iron wall of the flight case.

'I am not back together with her, Caro. Not now, not ever again,' he growled, his voice vibrating with an intensity she had never heard from him before.

Before she could spit out a single word of disbelief, he seized her face. His hands weren't hesitant anymore; they were demanding, his fingers buried deep in her hair. He leaned in and kissed her with a consuming, feral passion, a kiss that tasted of suppressed rage, hunger, and a desperate need to make her feel that he was never letting her go. He wasn't asking for permission, he was claiming that beautiful mouth of hers.

When he finally broke away, he stayed so close she could feel his heart thumping against her own chest like a flapping bird. 'I've been going mental without you' he rasped, his eyes burning with a dangerous fire.

Caroline held onto him as if he was the only thing keeping her from spinning off the earth. 'Noel, what the fuck are you doing? No..I don't want this..stop it' she started, her voice faltering as the heat of him made her want to move even closer to him. 'She'll have us both for breakfast..'

Noel didn't back off. If anything, her swearing and her struggle only fueled the fire in his eyes. He crowded her further against the cold metal of the flight case, his body a solid, overwhelming weight that she hadn't realized she'd been starving for all this time.

'Stop it?' he repeated, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl. He grabbed her wrists, pinning them behind her back. 'No can do, I've spent years trying to stop or hide my feelings for you, Caro. I've spent every waking hour for weeks now, pretending I don't want to pull you into a room and fuck your brains out. Trust me, I'm done stopping.'

'Noel, let go,' she gasped, but her own hands didn't push him away; they only curled into the sleeves of his coat. She hated how easily her body betrayed her. She was furious, furious at the legal mess, at the weeks of silence, and at the way he'd let Sara run riot, but beneath that fury was a raw, primal need that had reached its breaking point.

She wanted to fight him, to scream at him for the "harassment" texts and the broken promises, but as he pressed his body against hers, the anger turned into a devastating, dark hunger. Even after everything, even with the threat of losing the kids and her career, she wanted him to stop talking. She only wanted him to just take her right there, on a flight case, behind a trailer, in a van, didn't matter where, to burn away the memory of the last few hours with pure, reckless friction.

'You're only making it worse,' she whispered, though she was arching her back toward him now, her breath hitching as he buried his face in the crook of her neck. 'Someone will see..Liam is right there...Sara too..'

'Let them look,' Noel snapped, his voice vibrating against her skin. He released her wrists, only to slide his hands under her jacket, his palms searing against her naked, hot skin. 'It's over with her. I'm through being afraid.'

He leaned in again, his kiss rougher and more insistent than before, demanding her full attention. Caroline's mind raced with thoughts of the legal complications and the professional boundaries she was supposed to maintain, but the physical connection had always felt undeniable. She reached up, her fingers tangling in his hair, drawn into the intensity of the moment despite the chaos surrounding them.

The sound of Liam's distinctive, abrasive voice echoed down the backstage area, bouncing off the metal of the flight cases. 'Caro! Noel! Where the fuck are you lot?'

The sound hit Caroline like a bucket of ice water. The haze of heat and desperation shattered instantly, replaced by a cold panic. The reality, the text from Henderson, the legal trap, and the children sitting just meters away, slammed back into focus.

She pushed back against Noel's chest with both hands, her strength fueled by sheer terror. 'No,' she gasped, sliding off the flight case and frantically straightening her jacket with trembling fingers. 'Stop. Liam is coming. If he sees us like this...if anyone sees us...'

Noel stumbled back, his eyes still dark with adrenaline and longing, his breathing heavy. He reached out, his hand grasping for her arm. 'Caro, wait..'

'No! Stop it, Noel!' she breathed in a hot panic, retreating another step to get out of his reach. She rubbed her palm over her lips, trying to erase the sting of his kiss and the evidence of what they had just done. 'This doesn't change that text on my phone. It makes it worse. If Sara finds out about this, she won't just sue me, she'll use it to prove everything she's said and finish me. She'll take Bowie, Noel. She'll use this to bury me.'

Caroline looked at Noel, her eyes filled with a mixture of raw pain and frantic warning. 'Go,' she whispered, her voice a jagged plea. 'Go back to your dressing room. Deal with Sara, do whatever the fuck you have to do to, but stay away from me.'

Noel clenched his fists, the frustration etched into every line of his face, but he saw the genuine fear in her eyes. He knew she was right; one wrong move now and the legal trap Sara had laid would snap shut.

Noel didn't pull away as Liam's footsteps drew nearer. Instead, he caught her wrists, pinning them gently against the flight case one last time, and stole another kiss, shorter than the first but twice as intense, a searing claim that left her breathless.

Noel leaned into her ear, his voice a low, vibrating hum that sent a final shiver down her spine. 'I love you, Caro,' he whispered, the hairs on the back of her neck standing up 'I'll go take care of things, I swear, but you and I are far from done, you hear me?'.
