Amora

Now with Benny giving me the idea of actually speaking to my mom and pretending like she was actually listening.

I actually started to do so. Instead of completely passing by her without a second thought.

I rushed into the house, smiling excitedly as I walked over towards the hung up framed photo.

"Hey mom. 98 on my geometry test, pretty groovy right?" I smiled, holding up the paper in my hand.

"Yeah that's because I helped you study. Don't forget that" Benny added as he followed behind.

"Oh whatever you so did not? You attempted to yes but, you ended up falling asleep" I smiled, patting his back.

I gave him a pat on the back as he rolled his eyes, turning around and walking off into the kitchen.

"Whatcha doing pops?" I asked, skipping over and looking down over his shoulder.

"Nothing, did you do your homework?" He shooed me away, still looking down at the folder in his hands.

"Duh, of course dad" I laughed, rolling my eyes before smiling to myself.

"Oh, hi Benny" Dad sighed once he noticed his presence, glancing over at him briefly.

"Hello Mr. Sanchez" Benny greeted him, laughing softly at his reaction towards him.

"Amora, where's my work luggage?" Dad called out even though I was standing right next to him, searching around quickly.

"It's in your office papa. Want some?" I replied, before turning over and offering Benny a piece of my candy.

Dad groaned before pushing himself up from the table and stomping away.

"I don't think he likes me" Benny sighed once he was gone, leaning against the counter next to me.

"Of course he does. You helped him with his taxes plus organized all of his work papers" I patted his shoulder, assuring him.

"Wow, so is that the only reason. Is that why he called me at like 10 in the night?" He questioned, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Guess so. Speaking of, you really think your family likes me? I think I ruined it once I started talking about my shoes. How could I not! They were by Charles Jordan's!" I rambled, throwing my hand into my hair.

"Hey, it's ok. They loved you. After you left, they were now the ones who couldn't shut up about you" He laughed, shaking his head

"Awe well now you're just kidding me!" I blushed, rolling my eyes as I waved my hand.

"I'm not. They loved you, trust me" he assured me, pressing a small kiss onto my lips.

I huffed before finally nodding."Hi Rose!" I smiled instantly, once she walked into the room.

"Hi dear. Hello to you too Benny" she smiled at us both, pulling out a rag and sponge from under the sink.

"Hi Mrs. Holland, you need help?" He offered, as we watched her wipe off the counters and table.

"I've told you this once already boy, call me Rose! I'm only 27, and you're making me feel like some old women! But no, I'm fine thank you dear" She flailed her hands around as she rambled, shaking her head at him with a smile.

I shook my head, cracking a small laugh before turning around. Opening up the drawer below the counter and pulling out a cooking book.

"Well now that I've met your family. It's only right I bake them something right? Too convince them too take liking into me" I asked, flipping through the pages.

"Amora, you don't need too. I already said, they really like you" he laughed, watching as I rushed through the book.

"Yeah yeah whatever. Ooo this!" I stopped on a picture of a chocolate pie that made my mouth instantly drool.

I quickly read over the directions before rummaging through the cupboards and fridge for the right ingredients.

"Well, this will have too do" I shrugged, pulling out the amount of correct ingredients and setting them down onto the table

——

"Benny.. I don't think I'm doing this right?" I sighed, immediately rushing back over to the instructions.

"Did you not add sugar?" He exclaimed, once he took a taste of the batter.

"Uh..I thought this was sugar?" I questioned, waving the white bag around.

"Amora, that's flour!" He laughed, making me furrow my eyebrows and look down at the package.

"Oh my god!" I whined, looking down and throwing my head into my hands."Can you help me?" I sighed, finally looking up towards him.

He sighed shaking his head at me with a smile before nodding and walking over.

"Benny? The recipe does not call for coffee!" I exclaimed, immediately rushing over once I noticed him pouring some in.

"Trust me, it'll taste good" he assured, continuing to pour it in.

"Pfft..and how do you know?" I scoffed, pointing towards him as I shook my head in disbelief.

"Uh hello? Mom makes everything and forces me too help" he perked up an eyebrow, laughing lightly as he explained.

"Oh..whatever" I muttered, rolling my eyes and waving him away.

Benny and I continued to work for 30 minutes and it somehow ended up in me being covered in flour while he so far made it out perfectly clean.

"What the hell?" I groaned, wiping the powder off my arms and hands.

"How are you so clean?" I frowned, motioning over to his clean, spotless self.

He glanced down, shrugging slightly. "No idea"

Suddenly then the faint sound of music played somewhere from in the house making us both look around.

"Oh, that's Rose. She likes too play music when she's cleaning" I waved it off, looking back to the items in front of us.

I instantly recognized the song making me hum to the familiar tune as I began to knead out a big lump of dough.

This magic moment. Oh I always liked the beginning part with just the instruments, though the whole song was super pretty.

I continued to softly and quietly hum to myself before flickering my gaze over towards Benny who stared at me.

"What do you want bughead?" I laughed, quickly glancing at him before looking away.

"Nothing. You sing nice" he replied, resting his elbows onto the table as he looked up at me.

"Uh..I wasn't singing dork, I was humming" I rolled my eyes, shaking my head at the compliment.

I continued to knead the dough before being turned around to meet Benny who gazed down at me with a small smile on his face.

"Hey? I'm working here" I frowned, attempting to turn back around.

"Do you know just how lucky I feel right now?" He questioned, pulling me closer towards him.

"I don't know. We do get to eat chocolate pie after this so..I'm guessing lots?" I shrugged, looking back towards the things on the table.

"I mean, about you. I feel so lucky.. too have you" he continued, brushing a strand of hair away from my face.

My face began to heat up as small smile spread across my face, making me now feel like the total dork in that very moment.

"Do you realize how lucky I am Mr. model? Everyone thinks of you as some legend now that you pickled the beast a few months ago!" I questioned, poking his chest.

"Stop saying that! I don't like it" he shook his head, rolling his eyes at my remark.

"Well its true, you're a gorgeous boy my dear" I teased, patting his cheek softly.

He rolled his eyes once again at my words before grabbing onto my hand and spinning me around.

"Oh my god. Im totally going to puke! You're going to make that burrito I ate at lunch come right up" I groaned, smiling at him once I turned back around.

He let out a light laugh turning me back towards him and wrapping one arm around my waist before placing the other into my hand.

"What? Are we dancing now?" I laughed, motioning to the positions of his hands.

He simply laughed with a nod before pressing a kiss onto my forehead, leaving me too look up and admire him.

I continued to gaze at him, while singing to the song in my head.

Sweeter than wine, softer than the summer nights.

Awe. I have zero clue or idea what that means but sure, sounds super poetic and romantic.

Once the song ended I let out a light laugh, before reaching up and pressing a small kiss onto his lips.

"Benny, you're way distracting me right now" I shook my head with a smile, before turning back around towards the table.
