Chapter 6

- Chapter 6 -

Ross heads downstairs after putting on a shirt and sees everyone is already awake and dressed.

R5 and Vanessa were sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast, mostly cereal. Ross squints at the cereal. "Ew, what about the pancakes and bacon?"

"You sound like Austin." Vanessa says, rolling her eyes.

Ross looks at her. "That's because i am Austin."

Vanessa rolls her eyes, again.

"We've been out of food, lately. So, we're going to the mall and the grocery store." Rydel says.

Ross sits down at the table.

"What's up with you and getting up late? Is Laura up yet?" Riker asks Ross.

"I can't sleep. And no, she hasn't woken up yet. We couldn't sleep last night." He replies and then, he realizes he shouldn't have said that last part.

"Really?" Ratliff says. "What did you guys do last night? I heard some noises downstairs."

"We didn't do anything." Ross says, trying to contain his irritation.

Then, Laura makes her way down the stairs and sits at the table.

"Hey, what did you do with Ross last night?" Rocky asks her.

Laura looks at Ross who was looking at Rocky. "We didn't do anything."

"Right." Ratliff says, rolling his eyes.

"Soo, why are all of you dressed so early?" Laura asks.

"It's 11:30." Vanessa says. "It's not anywhere near early."

"Whatever. Where are we going?" Laura asks again.

"To the mall and the grocery store." Ross tells her.

People glance at Ross because he was talking to her. Ross looks at them. "What?"

They look away. "Nothing." Rocky says.

"Anyways, do you think we can stop at an eyeglasses store?" She asks everybody.

"Yeah, why?" Riker asks.

"I need new glasses." Laura replies. Ross looks at her but she doesn't look at him.

"Okay, who's staying home?" Riker asks.

"I will!" Ratliff says.

"Yeah, me too." Rocky says.

"Um, yeah. I want to." Rydel says.

"I don't really feel like going to the store." Ross says.

"We're buying new bathing suits and converse, you know. And i'll pay for you." Riker says to Ross.

"I don't know..." Ross says.

"We are eating after and going to the waterpark."

"Ughh, i really want to go now." Rydel says.

"Then, come!" Laura says.

"Dude, please come. I'm gonna be stuck with the girls." Riker says.

Ross looks at Riker and then at Laura, who was talking to Vanessa. "I don't know if i can."

"Why can't you?" Riker asks. "Are you scared?"

"I just don't feel like fighting anyone today." Ross says.

"Then don't fight anyone. Now get dressed. You're coming." Riker says, sounding very adult-like.

Ross groans and goes upstairs. "You sound like a dad." Laura tells him.

"I'm not a dad. And you go get dressed too." Riker tells Laura. "We'll leave without you if we have to."

Laura gets up from the table walking to the stairs. "Okay, dad."

"The closest relationship i'll have with you would be brother-in-law." He tells her, teasingly.

Laura turns around, looking at him. "Excuse me? Which one of your brothers will i marry?" She asks and then mentally face palms herself for asking such an obvious question.

"Ross." Riker, Rydel, and Rocky tell her in unison.

"I'm not going to marry Ross." Laura says, glaring at them.

"Relax, Laura. They're kidding." Ratliff tells her.

"No, they aren't." She says and then goes upstairs.

Laura looks at the different glasses as her new glasses were being processed.

Ross goes over to her. "You didn't tell them that you broke your glasses."

Laura looks at him. "Mainly because it's embarrassing."

"You told me." He says to her.

"No, you found out on your own." Laura says back to Ross.

"Same thing." He tells her.

"Not really."

Ross walked away because he felt a fight coming on. Laura got her new glasses from an employee.

"Dude, you were talking to her." Riker says to Ross.

"More like starting to argue." Ross says.

"Well, at least you made an attempt to talk to her." Rydel says.

Laura walks back over, putting her glasses in her glasses case.

"I guess, the glasses case would of been more helpful yesterday." Ross says.

Laura glares at him. "Shut up," she says, sounding dead serious.

"I'm just saying." He says.

"Well, i don't want you to say anything." Laura says.

"What are you going to do about it?" Ross asks her.

"Guys, stop." Rydel says, stepping in between them. "What happened yesterday?"

"Nothing." Laura says.

"She broke her glasses." Ross tells Rydel.

Laura looks to him. "Ross, would you please just shut up!" She yells.

"There is nothing embarrassing about breaking your own glasses!" Ross yells at her. "Everyone makes mistakes!"

Laura sighs, having enough of this argument. "Let's just go." She says, brushing by Ross and out of the store.

They follow after her and Ross trails behind. He pulls Riker back with him. "Why did you make me come?"

"Ross, why don't you stop complaining and just have fun?" Riker says and walks head with Rydel and Vanessa.

They go into a swimsuit store and the girls go to the girl's section. Riker and Ross go to the boy's section.

"Laura, you know that it isn't embarrassing to break your own glasses." Vanessa tells her. "Everyone does that."

Laura rolls her eyes, looking through the racks of bikinis. "Don't take sides with him."

"Laura, there isn't any separate sides. That's what's making you two fight." Rydel says.

"What? Is it because i'm right and he's wrong?" Laura says, over exaggerating.

"No, being hooked on your opinion. You know, Ross isn't always wrong." Rydel says.

"I know. But, he isn't always right." Laura says. "Can we change the subject?"

Rydel and Vanessa exchange looks and stay silent.

"What kind are you guys getting?" Laura asked them.

"I'm getting the pink and white striped bikini with pink sparkles." Rydel says, showing her.

Laura smiles. "That's so you."

"Right! I love this little sparkle-y flower on the side." Rydel says.

"I think i'm just getting a purple colored bikini." Vanessa says.

"Aw, that's boring." Rydel says.

Vanessa rolls her eyes. "What are you getting, Laura? You should get something yellow. I think you look good in yellow."

Laura narrows her eyes at her. "Um, no. I'm not stupid. I was thinking red or orange."

"Why not yellow?" Vanessa asks.

"Ross's favorite color is yellow." Laura tells her.

"Wow, you really know him." Vanessa says. "I didn't know that."

"Vanessa, don't. I know you knew that already." Laura says, pulling out a red bikini with frills and a 3D flower. "I'm going to go try this on." Laura says and Rydel and Vanessa follow her to the fitting room.

Riker and Ross look for swimsuits by the fitting room.

"No, Ross. What's the point of getting a new bathing suit if your getting pink again?" Riker asks as the girls start coming to the fitting room.

"Fine, how about this one?" Ross asks holding out a white one with vintage blue ocean waves at the tips.

"Yeah, that's cool. I'm going to get a new color like green." Riker says as he pulls out a green bathing suit that had darker green grass pattern on it.

Ross sees the girls coming. "What are you guys doing?" He asks.

"Laura is trying on a bathing suit." Vanessa says.

Laura goes into the fitting room and stays in their for a couple of minutes.

"Come out here and show us!" Rydel says.

"How about you come here?" Laura says.

"Laura!! Get out here!" Vanessa says.

"Fine," Laura says walking out of the fitting room.

Ross acts like he wasn't looking.

I mean, come on, he was curious.

"That's cute." Rydel says.

"Yeah, that looks nice." Vanessa says.

Then, a guy unexpectedly comes over, looking at her. "Wow, you look really hot in that."

Ross looks up and sees him looking at Laura. It was the most uncomfortable feeling ever.

Laura smiles at the guy. "Thanks."

"I'm Eric." He says with a flirty smile.

"Laura." She says, introducing herself.

Ross sees Eric flirting with her and he blocks his view of her. "Yeah, nice meeting you, walk away now." He says, rudely.

Eric looks at Ross, kinda startled. "Excuse me?"

Laura goes over and pulls Ross back a little but he doesn't really move so Laura was covered behind him. "Sorry, he didn't mean that." She tells Eric.

"Yeah, actually i did. So, leave."

"Oh, wait are you guys dating?" He asks.

"Yes." Ross says as the same Laura says no. Ross looks at her. "Yes, we are."

"I'm confused." Eric says.

"Be confused over there." Ross says pointing to the other side of the store.

Laura glares at Ross and then looks to Eric. "We are dating. But-."

Ross cuts her off. "But, what? Do you have something to say to me, Laura?"

Laura glares at Ross, giving him a look that said, 'quit the act'. "Of course not."

"Okay, um... Well, i'll catch up with you later." He says to Laura.

"Lets hope not." Ross says and the guy walks away.

Laura turns Ross around to look at her. "What the heck is your problem!?" She yells at him.

"What did you expect me to do? Stand here and watch him look at you?" Ross yells.

"Why does it matter to you?" Laura asks.

"I don't know! It's just uncomfortable!" Ross shouts. "You wait until a girl flirts with me and i flirt right back! You'll see how uncomfortable it is!"

"I wasn't flirting with Eric!" Laura says.

"Yeah, right." Ross says.

Laura groans in frustration and goes back to change out of the bathing suit.

Ross watches her leave his sight. He knew that he was still protective of her because he didn't want her to date anybody but him.
