Chapter 5
02:00, 29 June 2013- Chapter 5 -
Laura turns on the light to her room and lays down on her bed.
All she was thinking about was her kiss with Ross. It gave her chills. It was that good.
Even though, they broke up, Laura didn't think she'll ever get tired of kissing Ross.
She still felt his lips on her's. Everything in Laura longed for more and just wanted to be with Ross again.
But, Laura wasn't going to give in that easy. Lately, Ross hasn't been like the Ross that she knew. They fought a lot now. They started to disagree on everything.
The truth is that she didn't really want to get back with Ross. What if they did? They are still gonna argue.
I mean, being single is great, right?
Umm... Can't answer that.
Well, Laura could start doing her own things, be alone more, and she won't worry about being with other guys.
Only problem: Laura has been doing her own things, being alone sucks, and this whole situation won't let Laura find other guys.
This is helpless. Was Ross and her even friends?
Suddenly, Laura's light turns off and the whole house is dark. Laura waits for a few seconds to see if the power would come back on.
It didn't.
"Vanessa!" Laura calls as she gets up and gets her flashlight.
"Laura! The power is out!" Vanessa shouts from downstairs. She makes her way to Laura's room and stands in the doorway.
Laura squints at Vanessa because her flashlight was bright. "What are we going to do?" She asks.
"I texted Riker and he invited us to his house. We can stay there until the power comes back on."
Laura groans. "Seriously!? Can't i just go to Raini's?"
"I texted Raini and her parents said no one could come over because Raini needs to spend time with her grandpa." Vanessa says.
"God, can't i just sleep here? I'm trying to move on! I don't want to be with Ross anymore." Laura says.
Vanessa gives her A look. "That kiss didn't look like it."
Laura narrows her eyes at her.
"Pack some clothes. It's going to be two weeks. I called BGE and they told me that the power line needs some major fixing." Vanessa says.
Laura crosses her arms in front of her chest. "I find it odd that you texted Riker, texted Raini and called BGE in a matter of seconds."
Vanessa looks around, nervously. "You find it odd, i find it... talented." Then, she leaves the room.
Laura follows after her and stops at the doorway. "I know you have a crush on Riker!"
"Do not!" Vanessa yells from her room.
Laura and Vanessa packs up their clothes and head to Vanessa's car.
They get into the car and buckle in. "We aren't going to get back together." Laura says, out of the blue.
"What?" Vanessa asks her.
"Me and Ross. Not happening, again." Laura repeats.
Vanessa buckles in and starts the car. "Yeah, right. You guys belong together."
"Why does everyone say that? No one belongs with anyone. Can't some people just make their own decisions on who they want to be with?" Laura asks as they start driving to the Lynch's.
Vanessa rolls her eyes. "You still are with Ross, according to the public. You already know that you are the best looking couple in the whole world. It kinda means something."
"Not to me."
"Shut up. You know this is going to be fun." Vanessa says.
"Well, of course you say that, you're going to have extra bonding time with Riker." Laura says.
"And you will have extra bonding time with Ross." Vanessa says.
"Yeah, um, no. I don't want or need any extra bonding time with Ross." Laura says.
Vanessa rolls her eyes and sighs.
. . .
Ross comes down from his room and sees R5 hurrying around and cleaning the house.
"Alright, who cleaned my room?" Ross asks. "And why is everyone cleaning like maniacs?"
"We all cleaned your room." Rydel says, running into the kitchen.
"Yeah, and Laura and Vanessa's power got cut out. I invited them here." Riker says, picking trash off of the floor.
"WHAT!?" Ross asks, hurrying down the stairs.
"Is there a problem, Ross?" Rocky asks him.
"Uh, yeah. A major problem. You can't just go around inviting my ex-girlfriend to our house. Did you see how much we argued at the restaurant?" Ross says. "You have to tell them not to come!"
Just then, the doorbell rings.
"Too late!" Rydel exclaims from the kitchen and then gets the door. "Hey!" She exclaims to Vanessa and Laura.
"Hi!" Vanessa exclaims. "This is going to be so much fun!"
"Right! We can do so much stuff together!" Ratliff says. "Think of all the games and things we could do!"
Vanessa and Laura walk in. "Yep, it's definitely going to be 'fun!'" Laura says, sarcastically.
"Aw, cheer up, Laura. This won't be bad." Riker says.
"Maybe not bad for you guys, but for me and her. Don't you understand we are trying to get through a breakup?" Ross says.
"Okay, you guys need to stop. Get past the whole breakup situation. If you keep saying that, you'll never be friends. Just forget you even broke up. Remembering just, obviously, makes you both frustrated." Vanessa says.
Ross looks at Laura and she looks at him. Then, they both look away.
"It's a start." Rocky mutters.
"Okay, lets do some sleeping arrangements." Rydel says. "Ratliff, you already called the guest bedroom. Vanessa, you can sleep in our parents bed, since they aren't home. And Laura, Ryland is at camp so, you could sleep in his bed in Ross's room."
Laura sighs, silently.
"We changed the sheets and cleaned Ross's room so, it's all good." Ratliff says.
"Oh, wait." Riker turns to Laura. "Are you okay with sleeping in Ross' room?" He asks.
She didn't want to say no, but she didn't want to say yes. "If he's okay with it." Laura says.
"Yeah, go ahead." Ross tells her.
"Okay, we are good to go!" Rocky says.
"Oh, geez. The shower schedule is gonna be so screwed." Rydel says.
Everyone laughs.
. . .
Laura dries her hair with her towel she brought over and looks in the bathroom mirror reflection.
Her figure was blurry but, she already knew that she was wearing a pink spaghetti strap tank top and short yellow shorts.
She felt the counter where she last put her glasses. She was basically blind without her glasses and contacts.
When she finally felt them, it slipped out of her hands and fell on the floor. As she moved to get them, she accidentally knocked over her big makeup bag on to the floor, as well.
Laura heard a loud crack.
Oh no.
She gets down on her hands and knees feels around on the ground, under her makeup bag.
Then, she felt it. She picked up her broken glasses. The lens felt cracked and the wire part was all misshapen.
"My night just gets better and better." Laura says, aloud.
She stuffs her glasses in her makeup bag and picks it up.
How was she going to get back to Ross's room?
Laura takes a deep breath and feels the door knob for the lock.
She unlocks it and opens the door, turning off the light. Then, she starts to walk down the hallway to Ross's room.
She finally turns into his room. Laura could just almost make out the shape of Ross's body.
She tries not to make it obvious that she couldn't see. I mean, it's embarrassing to break your own glasses.
She walked slowly to Ryland's bed.
"Are you okay?" Ross asks her.
"I'm fine. Why?" Laura asks.
"You're walking really slow and hesitantly." Ross tells her.
Laura tosses her makeup bag on to where she thinks her suitcase is and feels Ryland's bed, making sure. "Oh... Um, it's dark."
"It's not that dark. The moon is shining through the window." Ross says.
Laura gets in Ryland's bed. "Well... That's your opinion."
"It's actually a fact. Can't you see the light flooding in the room?" Ross asks her, wondering if she could see at all. He knew that she wore contacts so, where were her glasses?
"Okay, whatever. Maybe i'm just tired." Laura says, knowing that soon Ross is going to find out.
"Night." Ross says to her.
"Goodnight," Laura says back as she closes her eyes.
Ross turns off his phone and lays down in his bed, putting his phone by his bed.
. . .
It was the middle of the night, Ross couldn't sleep. He hasn't been able to sleep since the breakup. Well, all he got was about 3 hours of sleep tops.
How could Laura sleep? Why wasn't she sleep deprived by their breakup, too?
Ross sits up and looks to Laura's bed. His eyes widen when he sees that Laura isn't there.
He gets out if bed and checks the bathroom.
No Laura.
He peeks into everyone's room.
No Laura.
Then, he flies down the stairs. She wasn't in the kitchen, living room or any of the rooms downstairs. The basement door was still locked.
Ross started to panic intensely. Where the heck was she?
He checks the front door. It was unlocked. He opens it and his heart beat settles, seeing Laura on the front porch. "What are you doing out here?" Ross asks her.
Laura jumps. "God, you scared me."
"I scared you? You scared me! You can't just mysteriously disappear like that." Ross says, sitting next to her.
Laura turns her head away from him so she could smile. She didn't know Ross still cared about her. "Sorry."
She stops smiling and looks into the distance, even though, she couldn't see a thing. Laura could feel the cool breeze in the humid air, hear the sound of silent engines and a few people. It was calm.
But, it still was stupid that she can't see anything and walked all the way downstairs and outside.
"It's not safe, you know." Ross says. "I know you can't see anything."
"I knew you would figure it out." Laura tells him.
Ross kinda smiles. "What happened to your glasses?"
"I... Um, broke them by accident." Laura says, blushing of embarrassment.
"Oh, I could see that." Ross says.
Laura looks at him and pushes him. "Shut up!" She laughs.
Ross smiles at her. "You were right about seeing each other real soon."
"Yeah, and a little bit more than i wanted." Laura says.
Ross looks straight forward. "Same."
"You know, i can't sleep. So, it's okay if you wanted to leave." She tells him.
"No, i can't sleep either. But, i am hungry. Do you want to go inside?" Ross asks, getting up.
Laura gets up, too. "Yeah, sure."
As she starts to the door, she trips on a step and falls.
Ross catches her, holding her tight with his hands on her torso. Laura had her hands on his chest. Now she could tell, Ross had no shirt on.
She should have remembered that he sleeps shirtless.
Ross looked in her eyes, his heart speeding up again, now that Laura and him were so close. "Careful, Laura."
Laura looked in his eyes and even though they were blurred, she still melted. "Yeah, I forgot there was an extra step there."
Ross pulls away from her and takes her hand, to guide her.
He opens the front door and walks in. "There's another step."
"I know," she says and almost trips. She steps into the house and Ross closes the door, locking it.
"I thought you said you knew." Ross teases.
"Shut up," Laura tells him as he leads her to the kitchen. Ross makes her sit down on a stool and lets go of her hand.
He turns on the light and moves around the counter to go to the freezer. "Want some ice cream?" He asks her.
"Ice cream in the middle of the night? How is that going to quench your hunger?" Laura asks him.
"It just will. Now, do you want any or not?" Ross asks her, taking out an ice cream tub.
"Maybe just a little." Laura tells him. "What flavor?"
"I'll let you find out." Ross says, scooping some ice cream into a bowl. He slides it across the counter to Laura.
Then, he scoops himself some and gets two spoons. He goes around the counter and sits next to Laura.
Laura puts some ice cream in her mouth and immediately tastes the sweet, creamy flavor of vanilla ice cream.
"This is different." Ross says.
Laura looks to him. "What?"
"This new feeling or whatever is between us." He replies.
Laura waits for him to continue.
"We aren't dating but, we aren't exactly friends." He continues.
"That's what having an ex is, Ross." Laura says. "It's a weird feeling because both of us want to move on but, some certain people are trying to force us back together."
"Exactly. But, what are we? What's are relationship status?" Ross says.
"I don't know. Acquainted Ex's?" Laura says.
Wow, not even friends.
Ross nods and they finish eating their ice cream.
Ross puts both of their bowls in the sink and turns off the light. He takes Laura's hand and leads her to the stairs. "Okay, we all know you're a failure going up steps." He tells her.
"Yeah, yeah. We know." Laura rolls her eyes and then starts to go to the first step of the stairs.
Ross pulls her back. "Let's just be safe." He says and picks her up, front ways.
She rests her arms on his shoulders. He puts his hands under her legs, keeping her up. "Why are you doing this, Ross?" Laura asks him.
"Because i don't want you to fall down the stairs?" He answers the question as if it was obvious.
"No, i mean..." Laura wanted to ask why he was being like a boyfriend to her. They broke up. They are ex's.
"What?" Ross asks her.
"Never mind. But, you are going to fall down the stairs and break something." Laura says.
Ross rolls his eyes. "You weigh like nothing. It's okay, i'm not going to drop you."
"I'm not worried about you dropping me. I'm worried that you're going to fall down the stairs." Laura says.
"If you keep saying that, i'm going to fall down the stairs on purpose. Now, do you trust me?" Ross asks her.
Laura nods and Ross starts going up the stairs. "I really wish i had my glasses."
"What? You're not enjoying this? I love being carried." Ross says.
Laura smiles at him. "No, this is actually pretty fun. I just hate not being able to see."
"How about we switch? I'll get on your back and you can carry me?" Ross asks.
Laura laughs. "I'll make sure i don't go near any stairs, then."
Ross laughs and makes it up the stairs. "I didn't fall and break anything."
"Nice job." Laura says, laughing.
Ross continues to carry Laura into his room. He sets her down near Ryland's bed. "The ride ends here."
Laura looks into his eyes. "Thanks, Ross."
He smiles slightly, looking into her eyes. "Goodnight, Laura."
"Goodnight."
---------------------------------------------
Yep, that's that. The next chapter will come tomorrow.
And p.s. notice how Ross and Laura have these moments but then go back to arguing. It because it's still fairly early and they can't get over the past.
But, i like these little Raura moments. Even when they are arguing. I think its just me.
Yeah so.... Vote! Comment!
