Thirteen

Kai and Misaki had dinner at a simple restaurant. They took their time walking to the train station after that, hand in hand in comfortable silence.

There was almost no one on the train when they went back. Misaki was leaning on Kai's shoulder. She stared at their entwined fingers. Not knowing what to do or say. She knew words weren't nessacary so she didnt say anything.

It wasn't before long when it was their time to get down. Misaki was in a daze as they walked, thinking of Kai's promise and her parents'. Would he break his promise just as her parents did?

They stopped at the red light. That's when Misaki saw them. A man and a woman, who she will always remember, reaching out their hands, asking her to come to them. She ran towards them, wanting to be in their arms again. She wanted them to tell her that they loved her and kiss her forehead, just like they always did.

Kai grabbed her by the waist before she could run any further. A car zoomed past in high speed and Misaki was struggling in Kai's arms.

" Let me go! Let me go! Mom and Dad are waiting for me. Let me go!" She screamed. The view of her mom and dad slowly faded away and that made her tears roll down.

" You idiot! They're gone. I want to be with them!" She sobbed while hitting Kai's hands that were around her.

Kai let go of her and grabbed her by the shoulders. " Misaki. They were never there in the first place."

" No! They were there. I saw them!"

" Hey. Misaki. Listen. I promised you I would never leave you. You promised me that too. There will be a day when I ask you to be my girlfriend. I would take you out to many places, just like how your parents would. I would do all the things your mom and dad never had the chance to do on behalf of them. So please, don't leave me just yet. " Kai hugged her after he spilled those words, causing Misaki to cry harder.

" I m-miss them." Misaki told him.

Kai stroked her hair. " I know. I know exactly how that feels." A tear slipped from his eye for the first time in forever.

Seeing Misaki like this was like seeing a replica of his younger self when his parents died. During that time, he cried for weeks before he stopped and his cold character was born.

Kai didn't know how Misaki fell asleep even though they were standing. He carried her bridal style and walked to her apartment. He went up the stairs beside Card Capital and knocked on the door.

A few seconds later Shin opened the door and his eyes widened when he saw Kai carrying Misaki. Kai explained before Shin could say anything.

" She has been torturing her own mind lately. Do you mind if I send her to her room? "

" Sure, her room's this way. " Shin guided him to her room.

Kai gently laid her down on her bed. As he was going to leave from her bedside, Misaki grabbed his hand unconsciously.

" You stay here with her. She needs you. Please take care of Misaki for me. " Shin smiled and closed the door.

Kai sat on the floor beside her bed and stared at her. That was when he knew perfectly well that he wanted to spend his life with her.

When Shin exited the room, he sighed to himself. What a bad uncle he was, not paying more attention to Misaki. But he was glad at the same time that he found someone who can take care of her like a princess.
