Chapter 31

02:03, 16 August 2021

The vampire didn't know how long it had been since Matt had admitted why he needed the bestiary in the first place, but that wasn't her main concern. Since she had been paralyzed she was trying to find a way to push the toxin out of her system but she continued to come up short.

"Hey," Stiles whispered over to the two supernaturals that laid beside him, he had seen the short glance the two had shared when Matt showed them the scales that shimmered on the side of his body, and it was quite obvious that they had a clue to what was going on with him. "You both know what's happening to Matt?"

"The book isn't going to help him?"

"What do you mean?" The human asked with furrowed eyebrows,

"Supernaturals are not necessarily forces of nature so they're rules, you cant break the rules of the supernaturals without there being consequences." Sage stated.

"The universe balance's things out, always has." Derek finished off Sage's explanation, Stiles must of understood what they were getting at because his eyebrows suddenly shot up with recognition.

"Is it because he's using Jackson to kill people who don't deserve it?" Stiles asked and Derek nodded, "And killing people himself."

"So, if Matt breaks the rules of the Kanima, he becomes the Kanima?"

"Balance." The two supernaturals hummed.

He pursed his lips, already having a feeling of what their answer was going to be. "Will he believe us if we tell him that?"

"Not likely," Sage scoffed.

"Okay, he's gonna kill all of us when he gets that book, isn't he?"

"Yep—"

"—He can try." Derek and Sage said at the same time, the vampire tuned into her vamp hearing, she could hear Matt's sob story about how the swim team let him drown when he was nine years old. The blonde didn't feel one ounce of sympathy for the boy, that didn't give him a reason to go around killing people and it defiantly didn't give him a reason to put the people she cared about in harm's way.

Stiles frowned. "All right, so what do we do? Do we just—do we just sit here and wait to die?" He stammered nervously causing Sage to frown from the shake in his voice.

"Unless I can figure out a way to push the toxin out of my body faster," Derek said,

"I've been trying to think of ways to, but unfortunately I don't have claws so use yours," Sage said causing Stiles to frown at her words.

"W-what do you--oh, what are you doing?" He wrinkled his nose in disgust when he saw Derek dog his claws into his thigh. "Aw, gross."

*~*

It had been a while since Derek had decided to dig his claws into his leg, Stiles had asked him how it was going and the werewolf had admitted that he could feel his toes but the human had quickly shot it down and told him that he could feel his toes as well.

Sage didn't want to jinx it with her thoughts but the vampire could wiggle her fingers, she thought she was imagining it but once it happened again she realised it wasn't her imagination. But before she could say anything she felt herself suddenly get lightheaded, like she was going to pass out but instead the blonde let out a sharp gasp of air as her eyes shone purple.

She didn't understand what was happening, she could see herself outside of her body, her, Stiles and Derek still laid paralyzed on the floor. She didn't understand why she could see herself right now, but that was until the lights had shut off and the sudden sound of the alarms blared through the station.

"Where's Derek?" She looked around hearing Allison's voice, it sounded hard but shaky. She didn't see the Argent girl but she could hear her, but what really stood out was the sound of her voice in reply.

"Are you seriously aiming that thing at me Ali?"

"I'll ask again, where's Derek? I don't wanna use this on you but if I have to I will."

"Sage!" The sound of Stiles' voice snapped her out of whatever vision she was having, and that's exactly what it was. A vision.

"Are you okay, you've been out of it--"

"Derek as soon as you get feeling in your leg you need to get out of here." She said to the werewolf ignoring Stiles' question, whatever she saw and heard was about to happen. She knew the Argent's were going to storm the place soon and that meant they were coming here for Derek, he needed to get out of here.

The alpha frowned as his eyebrows furrowed at the girl in question, "What are you talking about?"

"Just listen to me, get out of here as soon as you can." Stiles had a concern look in his eyes as he heard the firmness in her voice, he had no idea what had happened to her in the last minute but whatever it was had something to do with Derek and the urgency she had for his safety was worrying.

But before the alpha could reply to her the lights had shut off and the sound of the alarms blared through the station causing the blue-eyed vampire to freeze in place. The sound of glass shattering caused Scott to run into the room, Sage's body kicked into overdrive as she forced herself off the ground, hoisting Stiles up while Scott helped Derek.

"Derek get out now." Sage could see the hesitation in his eyes but the sound of gunshots caused the werewolf to stiffen, he gave the vampire a nod before he bolted out of the door. Sage sighed out in relief happy that he was safe, but that relief was short-lived from the appearance of Jackson.

The three of them hurried through the corridor while Jackson was right on their tail, Sage knew that she was too weak to get Stiles there herself but she also knew that she needed to get him out of harms way no matter what. As soon as they got somewhere safe, Scott ventured off to find Matt and Jackson, Sage gently sat Stiles down on a black chair.

"Okay do not move." Stiles threw the girl a disbelief look causing her to hiss out a soft sorry, but the boy's eyes filled with dread as he watched her walk off.

"No, where are you going?"

"Stiles I need you to stay safe okay, I'm going to find your dad and Melissa and then I'm going to sink my teeth into Matt's fucking neck." Stiles looked at her with an almost begging expression making her sigh and gently grab his face.

"I'll be safe I promise, and I promise to get your dad and Melissa out of here okay?" The boy nodded at the girl with a small sigh, Sage placed a small and gentle kiss on his lips before she dashed out of the room.

The vampire hurried throughout the corridor on her way to the cells knowing that's where the two parents were, but she was suddenly stopped in her path from the appearance of a bow being pointed at her.

"Are you seriously aiming that thing at me Ali?" It was happening, she was staring at her bestfriend who had a hardened look on her face, she knew exactly who she was looking for at the vampire couldn't be more grateful that she had told the werewolf to leave.

"Where's Derek?" The huntress asked in a cold tone but her eyes held slight hesitation as she continued to point the crossbow at the vampire.

"Probably burying a bone outside, I'm gonna get shit for that later if Scott heard me but it's probably true." She mused knowing it would piss off the brunette girl.

"I'm holding a fucking crossbow at you and your making jokes. You forget that the arrows are wooden right?" Sage's eyes instantly hardened from the visible threat the Argent girl spilt out, Allison sucked in a short breath as she watched the blonde take a step closer to her, so close that the crossbow was fully pressed against her chest.

"You think a little wood can scare me? Come on Ali I thought we were friends." Sage had a smile on her face that was anything but friendly and it 100% sent shivers down Allison's back.

"We will stay friends if you just tell me where Derek is."

Sage scoffed at the girl, "I warned you Allison, if you turned out like your psycho aunt I won't hesitate. Do not give me a reason." She flashed a smile at the girl, her fangs peeking out a little as she threw the huntress a dark look.

Allison breathed in as she watched her friend- could she even call her that anymore? But she watched the vampire with weary eyes before she pulled the bow from her chest and sprinted off the way she came.

Sage shook her head before she rushed off to the holding cells right at Matt hit the sheriff over the head with his gun. The vampire's eyes filled with rage and the sound of her footsteps coming closer caused the boy to turn to look at her.

Matt fired the gun at her, the bullet barely grazed her arm but she didn't flinch as she stalked towards the human. The boy watched her in fear as he back into a wall.

"I could have sworn you had a shit load of confidence a minute ago, what happened?" She asked with a dark look, she could feel the veins underneath her eyes come through as the sound of the human's heartbeat skyrocketed.

"That kanima venom really took a lot out of me Matt, and you know what?" She bared her fangs at him as a dark smile crept onto her face, "I'm fucking hungry."

Sage didn't hesitate to sink her fangs into his neck, not only did she get satisfaction from the taste of his blood but the vampire couldn't help but love the sound of the boy's screams. She hated to admit it but it was what used to fuel her, not just her victim's blood but their cries for her to stop, but that wasn't her anymore. She reluctantly pulled away from the boy pushing him away from her, she could still hear the faint sound of his heartbeat but he wasn't her problem anymore.

She didn't even realise that Scott and Derek had entered the room, she should have known Derek wouldn't have left but at least he was away from the Argents seeing as she couldn't sense them in the building anymore.

Sage looked over to see that the sheriff was still out cold, she knew the two werewolves could handle Jackson so she ran over to the man, pulling him out of harm's way. All she could do now was watch the other three supernaturals fight each other.

*~*

It had been hours since everything at the station had gone down, Melissa had seen a fully transformed Scott and the mother was scared for her life. Derek had thanked the vampire for the warning against the Argents before he chased after Jackson, the sheriff had a slight concussion from the knock to the head but the man refused to stay in hospital knowing that the teenage killer was still out on the loose.

Sage didn't know how the boy had managed to pull himself from all the blood loss but he somehow managed to escape the station unnoticed.

Right now Sage was sat next to Stiles on his bed, they had sat in silence for a while but the vampire didn't mind. She knew that the boy had gone through a lot tonight, from being held at gunpoint, being held hostage and the fear of not knowing whether his dad was okay.

"I don't want you to hold this all in Stiles." The boy didn't verbally respond to her but he did reach for her hand giving it a gentle squeeze. Sage was familiar with the anxiety the boy often felt but she could feel a buttload more through their bond and she hated it. She pulled her hand away from his before placing them on either side of his face making blue meet brown.

"I understand what your feeling right now, yeah I can only feel a percentage of it through the bond but I can still feel it Stiles. I need you to relax or you might have a panic attack. We're all okay, I'm okay, your dad is okay. Your okay." Stiles' eyes scanned her blue ones, they made him feel calm like he was staring right into the pacific. He knew it was partly because of the bond but he was absolutely grateful for her, he loved this girl with his whole heart and he didn't know what he would do without her. He couldn't lose her, he wouldn't lose her.

The boy still didn't verbally express to the vampire how he felt but he physically expressed it through the soft kiss he placed on her lips. Sage could feel all emotions through the kiss like their first one. It was like he purposely pushed all his feelings into her.

The blonde shuffled closer to him as her arms draped over his neck, Stiles' hands on her waist tightened as he felt her tongue on his lips. The boy was over the moon from the sudden invitation and he happily accepted it, the passion the two felt was like no other and they never wanted it to end but they both mutually pulled away.

Stiles rested his forehead against hers as his eyes met her ocean-blue ones.

"Thank you." It was a quiet whisper, so quiet that the blonde almost didn't hear it. Sage sent a soft smile to the human, her heart beating at the same rate as his. She would always be there for the human and she didn't want it any other way.

"Always."
