Chapter 30

01:35, 9 August 2021

Sage didn't even think about it, she sped through the woods to find Lydia but she ended up at the burned-down Hale house. Her eyes narrowed into a slit as she listened out for any heartbeats, there were two of course but one was so erratic it almost sounded scared.

"Where is he?" She heard Derek mumble as she stepped into the house, the vampire ignored the reply still trying to search the house and her bond for Lydia but she came up short. Sage stepped into the room only to see Deaton crouched over a light-headed Derek but she also sensed something else. Like death.

"Where is she?" Derek knew who the vampire was talking about but he didn't know how to tell her that Lydia was the reason a psychotic werewolf was on the loose.

"I don't know."

Sage squinted her eyes from the sound of his heartbeat, "Your lying."

"He's not." She snapped her head towards Deaton, "You may have heard his heartbeat rise but it's not because he knows where she is. It's because he doesn't know how to tell you what happened here."

Sage had no idea what the vet was talking about, all she wanted to do was find Lydia. She had tried calling and texting her when she left the party but she came up with nothing and as far as their bond went, it felt like there was a wall up like something or someone was blocking the link the two had.

Sage's eyes wandered over to the gaping hole in the wooden floor, she didn't know how she missed that when she walked in here but now it intrigued her. Her head tilted to the side once she caught the whiff of death but there was something else that made her blood boil.

"There is no fucking way HE'S ALIVE!"

"Sage—"

"—It doesn't matter anyway, because I'm gonna kill him."

Derek ignored the vampire, Deaton helped the werewolf stand but Derek still had questions for the vet. "how about you tell me what you're doing here, and why you're helping me?"

"Helping your family actually used to be a pretty important part of my life. Helping you was a promise I made to your mother." Deaton said making Derek look at him shocked.

"You're the one my sister talked about. She said you're a kind of adviser?" Derek said,

"He's more than that, the man knows everything and anything about the supernatural." Sage cut in with annoyance, she was still pissed about a certain werewolf being alive and she was a little worried that Lydia had something to do with it. What was she thinking, she knew Lydia was somehow involved but of course she wasn't mad- she just hoped the girl was okay.

"I have some advice that you need to listen to very closely right now. What Peter managed to do doesn't come without a price. He'll be physically weak, so he'll rely on the strength of his intelligence, his cunning. He's gonna come at you. He'll try to twist his way inside your head, preying on your insecurities. He'll tell you that he's the only way you can stop Gerard. Do not trust him." Deaton voiced causing Derek to look away from him shamefully, Derek knew that he trusted Peter before and it almost cost him everything but he wouldn't make that mistake again.

"I don't trust anyone." Derek said, "I know, if you did, you might be the Alpha you like to think you are. And unfortunately, the one person you should trust? Doesn't trust you at all, but he trusts her though." Sage furrowed her eyebrows at the man in confusion, she didn't understand what he was insinuating. There was no way Scott trusted her, he always voiced his discomfort with her ideas of killing.

Derek looked over at the tall blonde with an expression he couldn't even decipher, he had hated the idea of a vampire being in the town he grew up in. Vampires and werewolves didn't get along at all and when she first stepped into town she had threatened the werewolf. But now there was something that had grown on the Hale man, he didn't know what it was that got to him but he wasn't brushing it away. Maybe Deaton was right, maybe he needed to put trust into the right people and maybe it started with Sage.

Sage was about to put in her two cents until she felt the familiar tug in her chest, she almost cried in relief when she felt Lydia call out to her.

"I need to go find Lydia, go find Scott and Stiles, I'll see you in a bit." Sage walked off taking out her phone quickly texting Stiles that she would see him in a sec but the sound of her name being called stopped her from contacting Lydia.

"What is it Derek?" The alpha stared at the vampire with that same expression as before, Derek didn't understand what it was about the blonde. He wasn't attracted to her in any sense, yeah she was gorgeous but there was something else about her, a certain aura that drew him to her. He didn't know if she felt it too but he knew the only way he could explore it was by gaining her trust and ever since she threatened him the werewolf had a sense of trust in her. It was almost familiar.

"Listen, I uh—Deaton was right with the whole trusting Scott thing but there's something else." Sage stared at the werewolf with raised eyebrows wanting him to continue. "I guess I do trust Scott you know but I also trust you."

"Me!?"

"Yeah, I wasn't lying about trusting you a little, a couple months back. I don't know something about you is familiar and I don't know why I've never brought it up but this seems like a good enough time to."

"If you're trying to tell me you're in love with me—"

"Oh God no." Sage couldn't help but giggle at his distaste.

"I just, I—trust you. And I know you probably don't--"

"I trust you too Derek." Even Sage was shocked by what she said but she couldn't lie, she did trust the werewolf, she didn't know when it happened but it just did. The recent threats she spewed out to him were just empty but that didn't mean she was gonna stop any time soon, plus she sort of understood what he meant about Derek being familiar.

"Look--uh I gotta check on Lydia then go look for Stiles. I'll see you later." And with that, the vampire sped out leaving Derek with a smile on his face.

*~*

"Open. The. Door." Both Stiles and Scott stood anxiously in the sheriff's office, things were going well for them. Stiles had convinced his dad to go down to the station with him to prove that Matt was the one responsible for the murders, they had gotten all the evidence. Matt being at the hospital the night of Jessica's murder, the footprints at the rave, and the signed receipt from Tucker's garage.

They had him, all they needed was for Melissa to come down to the station to make an official statement but of course things never went their way. Matt had come in and ordered the teens to delete every shred of evidence that was against him and they couldn't even get out a text because Matt took their phones, but that didn't stop the Stilinski boy.

He remembered what Sage had told him, about how he could reach out to her in the bond so he tried, and he really hoped that he had gotten to her.

But here they were now, the sound of a car pulling up sparked interest in Matt but dread in Scott, he knew it was his mum and he wanted her nowhere near here.

Scott puts his hand on the knob and turns it, the door slowly clicks open allowing the boys to peer out to the front desk. The two had been expecting it to be Melissa, but instead of Melissa at the door, it was Sage and Derek.

"Oh thank god." Scott breathes out in relief. Now he had extra help to take down both Matt and Jackson, but that relief was short-lived as they both fell forward, paralyzed.

"Fucking dick, knew I should have ripped your heart out when I had the chance." Sage's voiced as she stared up at a half transformed Jackson but the boy ignored her as he stood right next to his master. Sage's eyes wandered over to Stiles as she quickly checked him over for any injuries and when she came up with nothing, she let out a slight breath but was still pissed.

"This is the one controlling him? This kid?" Derek spat as he looked over at Matt in disgust and shock.

"Well, Derek, not everyone's lucky enough to be a big, bad Werewolf." He said surprising everyone in the room. "Oh, yeah! That's-that's right. I've learned a few things lately. Vampires, Werewolves, Hunters, Kanimas, fucking soulmates. It's like a frickin' Halloween party every full moon." Sage wasn't all that shocked when the boy mentioned all the supernaturals in Beacon Hills but she was shocked when he mentioned soulmates but of course she never let it show on her face.

Matt continued to look at the vampire in interest before he turned to look at Stiles, "Can't believe this is your soulmate Sage, think you could do better no? I mean what does he even turn into?"

Stiles' eyes flickered away from Sage to look at the person he suspected a while back "Abominable Snowman. But, uh, it's more of, like, a wintertime thing, you know? Seasonal." Stiles says sarcastically making Matt squint at him before nodding at Jackson. Suddenly Jackson's hand shot out and cut the back of Stiles's neck making Sage and Scott's eyes widen.

"You bitch." Stiles said as he fell on top of both Sage and Derek.

"Your so fucking lucky I'm paralyzed you dick, you can hide behind Jackson all you like but I cant wait to pull your tongue out of your head." Sage seethed but held back a gulp, she couldn't feel Stiles on her but his head was definitely on her chest while the rest of him was on Derek.

"Get him off of me." Derek gritted out, feeling Stiles' stomach laying over his.

Stiles' face was red from both embarrassment and feeling flustered. He did his best to not let his thoughts wander too far as his face laid between her breasts. He also tried not to think about the time she just had on his T-shirt, he knew if his mind wandered there things wouldn't be good for him. Could he even get a hard-on while paralyzed?  Nope—don't go there. Stiles tried to think of anything else and not about the current situation he found himself in.

Matt let out a scoff as he bent down to look at them. "I don't know. I think all three of you make a nice ménage à trois." He said in amusement. "It must kinda suck though. To have all that power taken away from you with just a little cut to the back of the neck." He taunted them. "I bet you're both not used to feeling this helpless."

"Still got some teeth. Why don't you get down here a little closer?" Derek said, glaring at the kid. "We'll see how helpless I am."

"Yeah, bitch." Stiles said, his voice muffled from having his face practically pressed into Sage's chest. The vampire watched Matt with amused and curious eyes, she had noticed whenever he came down to their level he never once made eye contact with her.

"Wanna tell me why your not making eye contact with me? It's quite rude you know." The blonde mused with her eyes glowing purple but the boy never once made a move to look her in the eye.

"From finding out about vampires I have also gained some information about how you can basically command me to do anything if I look in your eyes. And yeah I haven't even gotten to the best part of this evening so looking you in the eye isn't on the agenda."

"Shame." She huffed, but before anyone could say anything, headlights flashed over the office windows, signalling another car was pulling up to the curb making Matt look at Scott with a smirk, "Is that her?"

"Do what I tell you to and I won't hurt her. I won't even let Jackson near her."

"Scott doesn't trust him!" Stiles yelled.

Matt let out an angry growl and with sudden brutality, he kicks Stiles off Derek and Sage, Stiles now laid roughly beside Sage, had Matt's foot pressed against his neck.

"This work better for you?" He snapped at Scott, glaring at him in anger.

"Just stop!" Scott pleaded.

A flicker of rage passed through Sage's eyes when she saw how Stiles' face was starting to turn purple from lack of oxygen. She ignored how her throat suddenly felt tight and how her necklace felt like it was burning a hole in her neck, all she could focus on right now was the anger she had towards Matt.

"I cannot fucking wait till this fucking kanima venom gets out of my system because I'm going to rip your head off! Get your foot off him you fucking creep." Sage spat out as her fangs grew past her gums, it was her instinct to protect Stiles and right now his life was being threatened and there was nothing she could do about it.

Matt clenched his jaw. "Just do what I tell you to do." He said to Scott, taking his foot off the human.

"Okay." Scott conceded, letting out a sigh of relief as the two left the room.

"Stiles..." The buzz-cut human was trying to catch his breath but he managed to mutter out a quiet 'I'm fine' to the vampire but of course she didn't believe him. She could feel his fear and anxiety through the bond and that and the fact that she couldn't move to do anything about it made her want to cry. But she pushed it aside, she pushed it aside so that she could find a way to push the toxins out of her body so that she could get Stiles to saftey.

The sound of a gunshot ran through the station alongside Melissa's cries, "Wh-what was that?"

"Matt shot Scott in front of his mum." Stiles sighed out a little, yeah it was a little selfish of him but Scott would heal, his dad and Melissa couldn't.

Sage smelled it before she saw them, Scott and Matt both walked back into the office but Scott was holding his side- blood seeping through his fingers.

Sage hadn't fed at all today, it wasn't like she needed to, she could go a day without feeding but the fact that she was poisoned and still hadn't fed was really getting to her. She could feel her veins protruding underneath her eyes and the sound of Stiles' pulse wasn't helping her either, even though Scott was the one bleeding out, he wasn't the one the vampire wanted to sink her fangs into.

"The evidence is gone. Why don't you just go?" Scott asked, still worrying about how his mum was probably freaking out right now but Matt just looked at him incredulously, "You-you think the evidence mattered that much, huh? No. No, I want the book." Matt said and Scott looked at him confused. "What book?"

"The bestiary. Not just a few pages, I want the entire thing." He demanded.

The two supernatuals and the human just watched the two argue back and forth, they couldn't do anything so it was just better to lay back and be quiet.

"I don't have it," Scott said. "It's Gerard's. What do you want it for, anyway?"

"I need answers." Matt said making Scott look confused, "Answers to what?"

"To this!" Matt yelled and pulled up his shirt to reveal the scales of the kanima, Stiles blanched at the sight while Sage and Derek both shared a glance before looking away from each other. They both knew what was happening to him.

You cant bend the rules of the supernatural without consequences.
