Chapter 13
13:58, 31 May 2021"Did you get the picture?" Scott said over the phone to Stiles while he, Sage and Derek sat inside Stiles' jeep.
"Yeah, I did, and it looks just like the drawing," Stiles replied, Derek then took the phone out of his hands. "Hey, is there something on the back of it? There's gotta be something. An inscription, an opening, something."
"No, no, the thing's flat. And, no, it doesn't open. There's nothing in it, on it, around it, nothing." He paused. "And where are you? You're supposed to be here. You're first line." They could hear coach Finstock on the other side of the line yelling. Scott sighed. "Man, you're not gonna play if you're not here to start." Sage looked over at the human in shock, she didn't know he made first line, she was a little upset that he was here trying to figure out this werewolf shit rather than playing a sport he really wanted to play.
The Stilinksi boy sighed, his shoulders sagging a bit in defeat knowing that he was gonna miss his chance to play first line. "I know. Look, if you see my dad, can you tell him - tell him I'll be there, I'll just be a little bit late, okay? Alright, thanks." He hung up.
"You're not gonna make it." Derek pointed out, Sage sighed when she could sense how upset the human was. She knew it was a duty to protect the boy but it was also her duty to ensure he was happy and healthy. And she knew how much playing that dumb game meant to him.
"I know."
"And you didn't tell him about his mom, either," Derek continued.
"Not till we find out the truth," Stiles said, staring at the Beacon Hills Hospital sign. He refused to believe that Melissa had anything to do with the text.
Derek turned to him. "By the way, one more thing."
"Yeah." Stiles felt him grab him by the neck and slam him into the steering wheel. He groaned in pain as he grabbed his face. "Oh, God! What the hell was -"
"Are you fucking out of your mind?!" Sage seethed from her seat. She was so close to killing the werewolf,
"He knows what that was for." The older werewolf pointed out gesturing for the human to leave, Stiles groaned getting out of the car, Sage was about to follow the human but she had something else to do.
"Derek?"
"Yeah?" The blonde smiled a chilling smile before slamming his head to the side of the jeep's window. The window cracked a bit, blood forming around the crack- the vampire had put most of her strength into that push, she didn't want to damage 'Roscoe' too much, but she also wanted to hurt the Hale man.
"Fuck."
"Next time, don't touch him."
*~*
"He's not here. He's gone, Derek." Stiles said in a bit of annoyance, it had been a few minutes since the incident and Derek had called Stiles to ask him if he had found Melissa. But Stiles reported back that the hospital was practically empty, Jennifer- Peter's nurse was no were to be found and so was Peter.
Sage's eyes widen when she realised what that meant, she didn't give Derek any time to think but she heard him yell to Stiles that Peter was the alpha.
She had rushed into the hospital looking for the human, Stiles was right the hospital was in fact deserted. She suddenly heard the sound of a heart beating against a ribcage erratically.
Stiles stood in between Peter and his nurse fearing for his life, but the sound of a scream caught his attention. Sage had grabbed the nurse and bit into her neck, draining her of her blood before she dropped to the ground. The blonde licked her lips, she hadn't drunk from a warm body in a long time and it felt good to drain someone who meant harm to Stiles.
"That's not nice." Peter frowned seeing what the vampire had done to the other woman. "She's my nurse."
"Does it look like I care?" The blonde raised her eyebrows at the older werewolf. Guess she hard to refer to him as the old one now.
"Get out of the way," Derek demanded, looking at Stiles who was still standing in the middle of them.
"Oh, damn." The human gulped nervously and dropped to the ground as he crawled in the direction where Derek and Sage were standing. Sage watched as the two Hale men started fighting, Derek losing drastically. She wanted to rip Peter's head off but her priority was Stiles.
"What are you doing?" The Stlinski boy asked as she helped him off the ground.
"Just hold on to me." Stiles didn't have time to ask what the girl meant because she had whooshed them both out of the hospital.
*~*
Sage watched as the human began pacing in his room trying to get in contact with his best friend. The blonde refused to let him out of her sight so he had to settle for warning Scott over the phone.
"Finally."
"You manage to get him?"
"Yeah, Peter and Derek already paid him a visit though. He said he's fine and he'll see us tomorrow." Stiles said to the blonde as he sat down on his bed next to her. Sage just nodded her head in response, a frown sketched on to her face.
"What's with the frown?"
"I don't like how involved in this you are."
"Sage..."
"I know, he's your best friend and all that shit but you could have been killed tonight."
"Yeah, but you saved me, I know I put myself in these dangerous situations but I'm not as scared as I should be. Cause I know that you'll save me." Stiles told the girl, he trusted her with everything in him, yeah he was scared tonight but a part of him knew that she would be right behind him. Sage stared at the boy in awe feeling the bond between them grow even stronger than before, like an invisible string tying a knot securing them both forever.
A part of her knew that what she was feeling wasn't just the guardian bond between them, she hadn't felt that way in a long time, maybe it wouldn't be that bad to start things off with the ADHD riddled human.
What she didn't know was that Stiles felt the same way. But he knew that he was 100% in love with the girl.

"Allison... when you said you needed to stop for an errand before we went shopping... a five-mile hike in the woods was not what I was expecting," Lydia said as she and Sage followed Allison through the woods, for whatever reason the brunette wanted to trek through the woods with her two best friends. Sage didn't mind it one bit, she wanted to spend more time with them- especially Lydia. Sage had promised the strawberry blonde that she would go to the mall with her and Scott wanted her to keep an eye on Allison as well. So it was killing two birds with one stone.
"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something." Sage narrowed her eyes at the huntresses tone, "Jackson asked me to the winter formal."
"Did he?" Lydia asked, trying to not sound too jealous or hurt by it, but Sage knew, she could feel it through the bond. She had no reason why the brunette would even say yes to the jock knowing he broke her best friends heart.
The brunette hummed. "Just as friends. But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first."
Lydia pursed her lips. "Sure. As long as it's just friends."
"Well, yeah, I mean -" She let out a small bitter laugh. "It's not like I would take him to the coach's office during lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything."
"Hang on that's what this is about?" Sage asked the girl causing both her and Lydia to stop and look at her. "Why do you think it was Lydia?"
"Why wouldn't it be?" The brunette asked confusion etched on her face.
"So you just made an assumption that Lydia made out with your ex-boyfriend because you probably heard someone say that Scott made out with someone in coach's office right?"
Allison didn't say anything, "Well your little boytoy dragged me into coach's office to ask about you and when he didn't like the answer I gave him he tried to kiss me." Sage tilted her head to the side watching Allison's face drop at her words.
"What?" She breathed out in a broken voice.
"I get that your hurt but don't try and hurt your friend's cause of it. I'm not afraid to put you in your place when it comes to Lydia." Allison breathed out an apology to Lydia who in return accepted it but the blonde knew the future huntress was gutted. She knew that Sage had no feelings for Scott with the amount of time she spends with the Stilinski boy, but that didn't mean she wasn't hurt by the fact that Scott tried to kiss one of her friends.
"Alright, if we're done with that- can we get back to what we came here to do please. I so should not have worn $400 Italian boots today."
"I'm so borrowing them by the way." Sage giggled at her friend who constantly gushed over her clothes, she knew she would take Lydia to Italy itself to buy the girl clothes if she asked.
Allison had placed her bag on the ground before she opened it, pulling out a compound bow and a couple of arrows.
"What does that do?" Lydia asked, noticing how the girl was putting on a new arrowhead.
"We're about to find out." She muttered, standing up and getting ready to fire it. She pulls back on the nocking point of the bowstring.
Lydia tenses up as Allison aims, the arrow soared through the air before it explodes against the tree with a bright flash. "What the hell was that?" Lydia asked as her and Allison stood around shocked, while Sage just watched with squinted eyes. She was learning more and more about her family and it was starting to make the vampire uneasy.
"I don't know."
"Well, that was fun. Any other lethal weapons you want to try out?" Lydia asks sarcastically, Allison went to turn to them but stops. Sage heard it as well and tensed up for a bit before she got a whiff of dog realising it was the McCall boy stalking his ex-girlfriend.
A moment later, they all hear movement through the brush and leaves.
"Hold this," Allison muttered, handing Lydia her bow.
"What? Why?"
"Because I thought I heard something."
The strawberry blonde gave her a look of disbelief. "So - what if you heard something?"
"So - I want to find out what that something is. Don't worry. It's probably nothing."
"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?"
"Shoot it." The future huntress called back as she walked in the direction of the rustling.
Lydia looked at her friend, "Why did you let her go?"
"Cause even if it was something, she can handle herself. Plus I'll protect you." Lydia looked at her friend in awe, she knew her and Sage had a connection- she never questioned when the blonde would defend her without even thinking or when she scolds her for dumbing herself down. She never knew why she instantly trusted the blonde, she never questioned it and she never will.
