Chapter 12
13:57, 31 May 2021Sage whooshed into the preserve looking around for the frantic human who had called her, informing her that the young werewolf escaped and was probably out on a rampage. She had called Lydia and asked if she was home just to make sure she was safe and now she was looking for Stiles, she had followed his scent which led to a bunch of police cars and an ambulance.
Her nerves skyrocketed before she caught a whiff of the human who was embraced by his father. The blonde watched with a sad smile at the Stilinksi men, she had longed for her father or a father figure in her life and so far the closest she has come was Noah welcoming the girl.
With curious eyes the blonde watched as a charcoal body was loaded into the ambulance, the scent wasn't familiar to her but she was the least bit glad that the teen wolf had nothing to do with this. She knew that he wasn't a killer- he couldn't handle that. She was about to text the Stlinksi boy that she would see him later but before she could the smell of gun powder caught her nose.
"That one's Stiles?" She looked over and noticed Chris Argent's SUV parked a little bit further from the crime scene. In the passenger seat, she assumed was his sister Kate.
"Another friend of Allison's."
"Are you gonna tell me about that talk you had with her?"
"You tell me something first. That night you came across those two betas, one of them was smaller, right?" Sage's face scrunched up as she continued to listen to their conversation.
"Mmm."
"Well, was he just smaller? Or could he have been younger, too?" The blonde looked back over to the human who was conversing with his father. A simmer of rage burned slightly in the girl after realising what the hunters were getting at. There is no way they could think that Stiles was the second beta.
Even if they did, she knew that she would protect him with everything she had, even if it meant killing off the Argents.

"Sage, I think you should slow down." Sage heard the young werewolf exclaim from the back seat of Derek's Camero. Sage didn't know how she ended up in these situations, actually, she knew. It was because of the buzz-cut haired boy sitting next to her, he called and she came running.
Now she was speeding down Beacon Hills while one of the Argent's chased behind her, they were trying to throw the scent of Derek seeing as both the police and the Argent's got word out that he was spotted near the high school.
"Do not tell me how to drive McCall, I have been driving for a long time so I know that when you're in a car chase, you have to drive faster than the person chasing you." The blonde said in an annoyed tone as she shifted the gear stick.
Stiles turned aground to see Kate no longer driving behind them, "They're gone." He said and the glances to the police scanner in his lap and raises the volume. "All units, suspect is on foot heading into the Iron Works."
Sage quickly turned the car around, hearing a thud from behind and beside her, she smiled sheepishly at the boys who were both rubbing their heads. "Sorry." Less than five minutes later, the car screeched into the Iron Works, Stiles climbed into the back seat before calling out to Derek, "Get in."
Derek jumped into the car as the blonde vampire sped off into the night. Scott put his head between the two in order to give Derek a look of annoyance. "What part of laying low don't you understand?"
"Damn it, I had him!" The older werewolf exclaimed, anger evident in his tone as he practically shook with rage in his seat.
Stiles pushed his head in between them, giving him a curious look. "Who, the Alpha?"
"Yes!" Derek snapped. "He was right in front of me, and the friggin' police showed up."
"Hey, hey, hey, they're just doing their jobs."
"Thanks to someone who decided to make me the most wanted fugitive in the state." Derek said throwing a glare back at Scott, "Can we seriously get past that? Yes, I made a dumbass mistake. I get it." Scott defeated.
"In the last month I've known you, you've made a lot of dumbass mistakes." The blonde muttered not taking her eyes off the road, the young werewolf flinched at her words, looking everywhere but her.
"How'd you find him?" Stiles asked and Derek fell silent. "Can you try to trust us for half a second?" Scott asked and Stiles leaned forward, "All of us." He said making Derek look back at him with a homicidal glare.
"The only person in this car I slightly trust is the girl who threatened my life." Sage raised her eyebrow at the werewolf in question. She didn't understand why he even trusted her, she threatened him- maybe that's all he understands, all he respects.
That's a little sad, she thought as she continued driving.
"The last time I talked to our sister, she was close to figuring something out. She found two things. The first was a guy named Harris." Derek explained. Stiles brows furrowed at the familiar name. "Our Chemistry teacher?"
"Why him?" Scott asked.
"I don't know," Derek said, looking visibly irritated that he had no clue.
"I could compel him," Sage said, earning a very confused look from them all.
"Compel?" Stiles asked,
"Oh did I not tell you about that one? It's what vampires can do- I told you only royal vampires have a special gift but all vampires can compel someone, get someone to do anything they what."
"That... sounds... AWESOME!" Sage giggled at his outbursts while Derek just threw a glare at the human, who immediately shrunk back in his seat.
"What's the second?" Scott asked getting them back on track.
"Some kind of symbol." Derek showed them a picture and saw the look of recognition on all their faces. "What? You know what this is?"
"I've seen it on a necklace." Scott sighed. "Allison's necklace."
*~*
Sage was currently putting away her books in her locker, as she shut her locker she came face to face with Jackson Whittmore.
"May I help you?" She asked the blonde jock who continued to stare at her with a small smirk like he knew something. He remained silent causing the blonde vampire to scoff before she started walking off to lunch to meet up with Lydia but before she could even make it five steps Jackson said those five little words causing the girl to freeze in her path.
"What did you just say?"
"I said, I know McCall is a werewolf." He said with a smirk as he watched the girl, she turned around to face the boy who's smirk got even bigger when he saw the slight look of panic in her eyes. She tried not to show her fear but she couldn't help it, if Jackson knew Scott was a werewolf then it could initially mean he knew she was something too. Sage knew she had shown no signs or left any clues that she was a vampire.
"So what if he is?" Jackson looked at the girl a little shocked not really understanding where she was going with this.
"I mean I knew I was right because he neither nor denied or confirmed it but the fact that you just flat out did. Wow. So are you one too?" Sage couldn't help it, she flat out laughed in the jocks face, she found it hilarious that she was being compared to a werewolf, she despised the dogs but learned to tolerate them a little seeing as one of them is Stiles's bestfriend.
Jackson was getting frustrated with the girl, he didn't like being made a fool of that was a given, but having someone flat out laugh at him fueled a little rage in him. Sage hadn't noticed that the boy had marched over to her before she felt him grab onto her arm, slamming her against the rows of lockers.
In an instant, Sage's eyes which were once filled with amusement were now filled with rage as her eyes glowed purple. She grabbed Jackson, slamming him into the locker while twisting his arm behind his back.
The jock, once filled with rage was now filled with fear.
"The next time you put your hands on me, you will find out exactly what kind of creature I am Whittmore." Sage didn't wait for the blue-eyed jock to reply, she just pushed his head into the locker and sped off down the hall.
*~*
"Why in the world- no scratch that. How does Jackson know that you're a fucking werewolf McCall?!" Scott looked at the blonde vampire in fear as she cornered him and Stiles as they came out of the cafeteria.
"W-what-"
"Jackson, tired and failed to intimidate me early saying how he knew you were a fucking dog and he tried to insinuate that I was one too."
"Does he know about you though?" The hyperactive human asked, her eyes softened at the sight of him and just shook her head in response. "He knows I'm something cause I had to rough him up a bit but I told him if he touched me again he'll find out exactly what I am."
Stiles looked at the girl in awe as she finished off her rant, he didn't know why but seeing her so angry and vengeful made her a lot more attractive. While Stiles couldn't help but fall more deeply for the girl Scott didn't quite feel the same. He knew that he couldn't fully trust her because she implied numerous amounts of times that she would kill him if anything happened to Stiles or Lydia but now he was even more fearful of the vampire.
A small part of him knew she would never really hurt him or Jackson because of how much they mean to both Stiles and Lydia but he knew if either of them kept pushing her- she would kill them.
Scott was about to speak up and ask the girl something he probably wouldn't like the answer to, but he was cut off from the sound of her phone going off.
Sage squinted down at the text Lydia had just sent her and if she wasn't mad at Jackson before, she was fuming now.
"You okay Sage, you got this look on your face like your gonna kill someone." The Stilinksi boy pointed out, at first he didn't get a response, he was about to ask the blonde again but she had already sped down the hall.
"Dude, Sage scares the crap out of me."
The buzz-cut haired human just watched in awe as she marched down the corridor, he was so in love with her.
*~*
Hurtling into his room, Stiles rips his bag off his back and jumps to his computer. He types while simultaneously trying to kick his chair underneath him to grab a seat.
"Hey, Stiles!" Sheriff Stilinski called out to his son, making Stiles turn around, "Yo, D-Derek?" Stiles said when he noticed Derek standing there. Derek rolled his eyes and aggressively pointed at the door making Stiles quickly shoot up and run over to the door, awkwardly closing it behind him.
The dark-haired werewolf glared at the door waiting for the hyper-active teenage boy to come back in, but his whole body became stiff, the hairs stood at the back of his neck when he suddenly felt another presence in the room.
"You have a thing for sneaking up on people don't you?"
Sage just hummed quietly as she made herself comfortable on Stiles's bed. She had just come from Lydia's who was bawling her eyes out about Jackson, the jock had broken up with Lydia over text and Sage was fuming when she saw her bestfriend heartbroken. Not only was she in rage she was also a little heartbroken herself, she knew it was because of her and Lydia's connection and she would do everything in her power so the strawberry-blonde never felt that pain again.
Once Stiles was back into the room Derek grabbed him and pushed him into the door, Sage sat up a little with her eyes slit, readying herself just in case Derek got even more handsy with the human. "If you say one word." Derek started to threaten, " Oh, what? You mean, like, 'Hey, Dad, Derek Hale's in my room. Bring your gun!'" Stiles said sarcastically making Sage smile as she lied back down on his bed.
Derek stared at him for a moment, realizing he was right, "Yeah, that's right. If I'm harbouring your fugitive ass, it's my house, my rules, buddy." Stiles said and Derek nodded slightly, letting him go. He fixed Stiles flannel making Stiles smirk and do the same to Derek jacket before starting to walk away. As he walked away Derek threateningly jumped at him making Stiles flinch, "Oh, my God!"
"Scott didn't get the necklace?" Derek asked as Stiles sat back down at his desk, glancing momentarily at Sage who was laying down on his bed, currently sketching something. The blonde was aware of the plan that consisted of Scott getting the necklace Allison constantly wore around her neck ever since her aunt gave it to her. But Sage knew the plan would have been a bust, so she stayed out of it.
"He's still working on it. But there's something else we can try. When we were trapped in the school that night Scott sent a text to Allison telling her to meet him there."
"So?"
"So it wasn't Scott."
"Can you find out who sent the text?"
"No. But I know someone who can."
Sage smiled to herself knowing exactly who Stiles was talking about but she also knew there was no way he was gonna help the Stlinski boy.
Five minutes later Danny stood in the middle of Stiles's room as he stared at the human with a look of disbelief with a hint of anger in his gaze. "You want me to do what?"
"Trace a text," Stiles repeated, trying to not look intimidated by his lab partner.
"I came here to do lab work. That's what lab partners do." Danny said and Stiles nodded, "And we will. After you trace the text." Sage continued to watch Danny and Stiles argue between themselves, she wondered if she should just compel him, it would easier and faster that way but she really liked Danny. She knew the Stilinksi boy had everything in him to persuade Danny so she left it in his hands.
"I - I was 13." Danny defended himself. "They dropped the charges."
"Whatever," Stiles muttered.
"How can you put up with this?" Danny asked the blonde who was now flipping through one of Stiles's comic books, she just sent an innocent smile over to the humans, Danny took a seat beside Stiles, shaking his head at the girl as he mumbled that they were gonna do lab work while Stiles continued to admire the blonde with a slight pink blush on his cheeks.
Danny glanced behind him to look at the strange man who was reading. "Who's he again?"
Stiles stammered, realizing he never introduced the two, "Um, my cousin - Miguel." He blurted, not noticing the annoyance in Derek's gaze.
"Is that blood on his shirt?" Danny asked awkwardly. "Yeah. Yes. Well, he gets these horrible nose bleeds." Stiles rambled, before looking over at Derek. "Hey, Miguel. I thought I told you you could borrow one of my shirts."
Derek slowly puts the book down and gets up to open Stiles's closet.
"So, we both know you've got the skills to trace that text-"
"Stiles." Stiles glances back at Derek holding a shirt, "This... no fit." Derek said making Stiles slightly roll his eyes.
"Then try something else on," Stiles said, before turning back to look at his laptop that is at least what he intended to do when he saw Danny practically gawking at Derek's half-naked body. His own jaw dropped momentarily as he remembered that Danny was gay and got an idea. "Hey, that one looks pretty good, huh? What do you think, Danny?"
The other human blinked out of his daze, "Huh?"
"The shirt," Stiles repeated, fighting off the grin on his face.
Danny gulped nervously, staring over at Derek before shyly looking away. "It's - it's not really his colour." He said quietly and Sage held back a laugh when she watched Derek slip off the shirt with a frown on his face.
Stiles grinned. "You swing for a different team, but you still play ball, don't you, Danny boy?" He teased.
Danny gave him a deadpan stare. "You're a horrible person."
"I know. It keeps me awake at night." He said, pausing. "Anyway, about that text."
"Stiles! None of these fit." Derek snapped, throwing the shirt back into the drawer, Sage groaned before marching herself over to the sourwolf as Stiles likes to call him.
"Here." She threw him a shirt that looked big enough to fit him before going back to her drawing. Sage never knew what her drawings were, she just drew them and when they were finished she forgot about them.
The girl had a dozen drawings in her notepad but she never flipped back to the previous page. She always looked to the future.
"There. The text was sent from a computer." Danny said, Sage had gotten off the bed and made her way towards the humans. The three looked at the computer as he pointed to the screen. "This one."
"Registered to that account name?" Derek questioned, a frown on his face.
Stiles refused to believe that the name on the screen was the one who sent the text. "No, no, no, no. That can't be right." Sage eyes squinted as she read the name that appeard in bold, she didn't know the woman that well but she knew in no way she was the alpah.
Beacon Hills Memorial- Melissa McCall
