Chapter 2
13:55, 31 May 2021"I love everything about your outfit, especially that skirt." Sage had turned to notice a pretty strawberry blonde haired girl but that's not what gained Sage's attention. As soon as she met the girl's eyes she felt that pull again, but it shouldn't have been possible, but here she was- feeling the same pull she felt with that boy Stiles.
But Stiles's one felt different she thought.
Sage had realised she zoned out a bit before throwing a smile to the strawberry blonde, "Thanks, I spent the last six months in Italy so most of my wardrobe is from Milan." The Strawberry blonde smiled at her, "And you are my new best friend, I'm Lydia Martin. Plus I love the French accent, very sexy."
Sage was about to answer the girl until she noticed the pull on her chest again, she looked over a few lockers down to notice Stiles and a shaggy-haired brunette boy. But before she could make her way towards them Lydia had managed to pull her along as they made their way to Allison who was stood by her locker.
Allison looked shyly over at the girls who both walked with so much power and confidence as they came up to her, "That jacket is absolutely killer. Where'd you get it?" Lydia asked, Allison glanced down at it before answering the girl, "My mum was a buyer for a boutique back in San Fransico." Lydia smiled at the answer realising she had made an excellent choice in approaching both girls.
"And you are our new best friend." Sage raised her eyebrows and playfully rolled her eyes at the girl, Sage knew she and Lydia would become close because of the pull she was feeling but she didn't know about the Argent girl. But she guessed she could give the girl a chance.
"Can someone please explain to me why the new girls are here all of five minutes, and they're already hanging out with Lydia's clique?" Sage overheard the conversation some girl was having with Stiles and his friend, she obviously didn't make it known that she was listening but she smiled when she heard Stiles response. "Because they're hot, beautiful people herd together."
Sage had heard enough from the boy, she wanted to know him.
"It was really nice meeting you Lydia, you too Allison, but I gotta go do something."
"No, go ahead, but I better see you at the tryouts later." Sage nodded her head before making a beeline towards the Stlinksi boy, Sage knew exactly what both Stiles and Lydia had meant to her, meaning she had to get close to them.
"Hi, Stiles right?" Stiles's eyes widen when he noticed the girl that stood next to him. Stiles would have never thought such a beautiful girl like her, who was already apart of Lydia's clique was talking to him. He felt Scott nudge him in his stomach before he stuttered out a response to the blonde girl, "Ye-yeah hi I'm Stiles."
Stiles was about to ask himself why he had to be so awkward but before he could Sage had let out a little giggle. She thought his nervousness was cute and adorable.
"So Stiles do I get a last name?"
"Oh yeah, it's Stilinski, Stiles Stilinski."
"Well Stiles Stilinski, Lydia told me about some tryouts going on later but I'm just clueless about these things so do you mind telling me about it?" Sage asked him with a kind smile on her face, Stiles could feel the air in his lungs stop as he realised the girl he had been thinking about since he set eyes on her this morning wanted to spend time with him.
He could say that it was the start of an obsession, but he didn't really care. He wanted something to go right for him this year and hopefully, it all started with this girl.
"Y-yeah no of course." Stiles quickly nodded at the girl, Sage smiled at the boy, she didn't know why she felt two pulls with both the Stilinski boy and the Martin girl, but she didn't care. She knew what the pull meant and she knew she was gonna uphold her end no matter what.
*~*
20 minutes later, Sage and Allison were both dragged onto the field by the confident strawberry blonde to watch Lacrosse practice. Sage was informed that Lydia's boyfriend- Jackson, was the Lacrosse team captain, so of course, Lydia had to watch every match-even the practices and Lydia just had to drag both her new best friends with her as well.
"Oh Sage I didn't get to tell you, but there's a party this weekend."
"A party?" Sage asked with her head cocked to the side as she scanned the field for the boy with the buzz cut.
"Yeah, Friday night after the scrimmage. I already told Allison so you definitely have to come." Sage hummed at the thought of going to a high school party, she had never really been to one. Yeah, she's been to parties and has gone clubbing, but being homeschooled most of her life, she never went to an actual highschool party.
"Sure, sounds fun." Saged sighed a little when she noticed Stiles sitting on the bench instead of lining up on the field with the rest of the team.
"Who's that?" Allison asked making Sage look away from the boy and looked at her instead, Sage followed where the Argent girl was looking and noticed the shaggy-haired boy that was stood beside Stiles earlier. She never got his name- but then again it wasn't a priority of hers.
"Him? I'm not sure why?" Lydia asked making Allison smile shyly, "He was in our first period English." She said making Sage smile at the girl, she noticed how her heart skipped a beat a little of mentioning the boy.
Sage was brought out of her daydream when she heard the whistle blow- she grimaced a little but it didn't bother her as much, she had noticed that she wasn't the only one who was bothered by the sound. Said shaggy-haired boy who was in goal flinched and tried to cover his ears through his helmet.
Sage's eyes squinted a little, watching the boy, she knew what the disadvantages to advance hearing looked like. She was beginning to wonder if he was like her, until the wind blew and she got a whiff of his scent.
Dog.
Shit.
Being distracted by the sound of the whistle he was unable to catch the ball causing it to hit him right in the head, knocking him right to the ground. The rest of the team- including the coach and Lydia started laughing at the boy, "Hey, way to catch with your face McCall."
He stood up and shook himself off as the next player began to run to shoot the ball. As the ball came hurdling towards him, instead of the ball hitting him in his face again, he caught it, staring at his stick like it'd been an illusion. Stiles ends up cheering happily for his friend and Sage couldn't help but smile at his excitement.
"Yeah!"
The boy manages to catch the rest of the shots that were thrown at him, Stiles continued to cheer for his friend while coach and the rest of the team looked at the boy in shock and confusion.
Guess he never used to be a good player, Sage thought to herself.
Lydia watched Scott like she was surprised she never noticed him before, and Allison watched him with awe. "He seems like he's pretty good," Allison said, "Yeah, very good," Lydia agreed. Sage realised that if the boy suddenly had all this speed and reflexes out of nowhere he couldn't have been born. He was bitten.
She had gotten another whiff off him and caught the scent of blood and wolf venom.
Yep, definitely bitten.
The air around the field suddenly tensed when Jackson pushed past the boy who was supposed to go next, glaring at the shaggy-haired boy, Jackson picks up the ball with his stick- "Oh God." She heard the boy mutter under his breath. Jackson launched forward running towards the boy in goal, Jackson then launches around throwing a fire spin, launching the ball towards the goal, but just as she thought- the shaggy-haired boy moved with supernatural precision, catching the ball right in the goalies net pocket.
Stiles had let out a holler, jumping up from the bench cheering for his friend, Lydia stood cheering for the boy as well causing Jackson to throw a look at her but Lydia just shrugged right at him.
Grinning to himself, the boy gave the stick a whirl before tossing the ball into the assistant coach's stick.
Sage hummed to herself as she continued to watch the rest of tryouts.
*~*
"How did you do that? In the net?" Stiles asked his friend as they trekked through the woods.
"I don't know what it was. It was like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball," Scott replied.
"And that's not the only weird thing." They ducked under a fallen log. "I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear."
"I can smell things, too."
"Smell things? Like what?" Stiles asked.
"Like the mint mojito gum in your pocket." Scott pointed out.
Stiles rolled his eyes and felt around in his pockets. "I don't even have any mint mojito-." He paused, he frowned and pulled out a halfway unwrapped piece of light green gum. He looked up at Scott in surprise, Scott shrugged smugly and began to walk again.
"So, all this started with a bite," Stiles stated more than questioned as he caught up with him.
"What if it's like an infection? Like my body's flooding with adrenaline before I go into shock or something?" Scott pondered.
"You know what? I actually think I've heard of this. It's a specific kind of infection," Stiles said seriously. Scott stopped instantly and looked at him.
"Are you serious?"
Stiles put his hands on his hips, as he looked at his bestfriend. "Yeah. I think it's called Lycanthropy."
Scott looked at his bestfriend, worry etched on his face. "What's that? Is that bad?"
"Oh, yeah. It's the worst. But only once a month."
"Once a month?"
"Mhm, on the night of the full moon." Stiles paused then howled quietly. Scott's face fell before he pushed his friend away from him. The spastic boy laughed at his joke before following his bestfriend.
"Hey, your the one who heard a wolf howling."
"There could be something seriously wrong with me," Scott said with worry.
"I know! You're a werewolf!" Stiles joked. "Rrrr." He looked at the glare that was sketched on his friend's face and laughed nervously. "Okay, obviously, I'm kidding. But if you see me in shop class trying to melt all the silver I can find, it's 'cause Friday's a full moon."
Scott stopped and began to look around the forest floor, "I-I could've sworn this was it. I saw the body; the deer came running. I dropped my inhaler." Scott bent down, running his hand through the leaves to see if it was buried underneath.
"Maybe the killer moved the body," Stiles said, "If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like 80 bucks," Scott responded looking up at his friend, but Stiles was looking further into the forest. Scott had got up ready to ask his friend what he was looking at until he turned around and noticed the man staring back at them.
"What are you doing here?" he asked. Stiles rubbed his head and Scott stared silently. "Huh? This is private property."
"Uh, sorry, man, we didn't know," Stiles replied, gulping down his nervousness.
"Yeah, we were just looking for something, but..." Scott trailed off, and the man lifted his eyebrows, waiting for his response. Scott felt something off about the man, "Uh, forget it." The man took his hand out of his pocket and threw Scott his inhaler. Scott caught it without even realizing it.
Without another word, the man turned and walked away.
"Alright, come on, I gotta get to work," Scott said to his friend, Stiles slapped his shoulder as they began to walk away. "Dude, that was Derek Hale," Stiles said. "You remember, right? He's only like a few years older than us."
Scott furrowed his brows in confusion, "Remember what?"
"His family. They all burned to death in a fire like ten years ago."
"Wonder what he's doing back," Scott muttered before the best friends walked away.
Derek started to walk back home until he felt someone watching him, his body tensed as he let out a growl knowing that they weren't human.
"Put the claws away puppy, I'm not looking for a fight," Sage said as she stepped out from behind a tree, she had been tailing Stiles knowing that he and his friend were gonna be trekking through the woods. She needed to make sure he was keeping himself away from danger.
"Who the hell are you- better yet what are you?" Derek questioned the blonde girl as she walked closer to the werewolf, she knew he wouldn't be able to sense what she was because she knew how to hide her scent but some creatures were still able to make out the fact that she wasn't human.
Sage hummed as she approached the man who continued to eye her, Sage knew she would have to make herself known to the town's werewolf but she also had to make it clear that she wasn't here for a fight.
"Come on, use those senses you're famous for, you're telling me there's not one lingering smell that can give away my identity?" She taunted, almost chest to chest with the man. Derek's brows were furrowed until they quickly raised when he smelt a lingering smell on her.
"I-I didn't think there were any of you in Beacon Hills, I haven't heard of any for over 60 years," Derek said as he took a cautious step away from the girl. Sage hummed again, this time in satisfaction as she realised the werewolf was afraid of her- even if he tried to hide it.
"Yeah well, like I said. I'm not here to fight."
"Then why are you here?" He asked her.
Sage looked around noticing a burnt down house, she could sense death and despair coming from it- something tragic must have happened.
But that's not what caught her senses. She could smell blood, and death.
"I'm here to be a normal teenage girl." She replied cooly as she crossed her arms. Derek raised his eyebrows in question, "What kind of 'normal' teenage girl goes hiking through the woods? Especially in those boots." Sage looked down at her Italian boots and was glad no mud had gotten on them. She rolled her eyes at the werewolf not wanting to explain herself to him.
"Just checking out the scenery." She smirked at him before walking away,
"Hey, Derek." She stopped walking but never turned around to face him, "If this werewolf stuff that the boy has gotten into puts Stiles life in danger at all. I will not hesitate to paint this town red with werewolf blood."
And with that, she was gone.
*~*
It was now Friday and Sage was sat with both Lydia and Allison as she watched the lacrosse team circled up around the coach for the first-line tryouts. It had gotten a little colder in Beacon Hills today, so Sage had to dress according to the weather. She wore another pink jumper that had been tucked into a checkered pencil skirt, she paired the outfit with a pair of black knee-high boots and a black open cardigan.
The team hollered after Coach's pep-talk, disseminating onto the field. Scott quickly got the ball in his stick, he started running only to get knocked down by an angry Jackson.
Scott and Jackson set up for the next start, their sticks on the ground and the ball between them. As the whistle blew, Scott easily pushed the ball out of Jackson's reach, he dodged every person that came after him, but Jackson wasn't giving up as he ran up behind him, trying to catch up. Scott spun out of the way of another person, then jumped out of the way of the next, putting his stick behind his back to switch hands.
Everyone watched the boy impressed as he continued to dodge every player that came at him, Sage leaned forward in her seat when she noticed three players came at the boy at once but, she was shocked when she saw him leap over in a front flip before spinning and throwing the ball in the goal.
Scott was surrounded by his teammates, clapping him on his back and head-butting him as a good job until Coach called him over.
Sage had gotten bored so she excused herself from the girls before making her way over to the Stilinski boy.
"Hey, Stiles." Stiles had yet out a small yelp, almost falling off the bench when he heard his name being called, Sage had giggled a little before making sure he was alright.
"Uh, hey Sage, h-how are you?" Stiles asked, scratching the back of his neck as his nerves began to build up.
"I'm good, hey listen there was something I wanted to ask you if that's okay?"
"N-no, I mean yes-yes, you can ask me anything you want. I would probably say yes anyway." Stiles whispered out the last sentence, but with her hearing, Sage had managed to hear it anyway and it not only warmed her heart, but it slowly strengthened the pull between them.
"So, Lydia invited me to this party tonight, and I'm clueless about high school parties. So I was wondering if you would like to go with me?" Sage liked to believe she was full of confidence, but at this moment right here she was a little nervous, she didn't really know why but that didn't make it any better.
"Y-you want to go with me... l-like a date?" Stiles asked while stuttering, Sage smiled and nodded at him, "Is that okay?"
"No- of course that's okay. It's more than okay."
"Great." She pulled out a notebook from her bag, writing down her phone number before ripping out the paper and handing it to the boy, "Text me later and I'll text you my address." Stiles stared down at the paper like it was the holy grail, it may have well been because the hot girl he had been thinking about all week had not only asked him out but had given him her phone number.
"Y-yeah, I can- I will text you."
"You better." She smiled at the boy who's cheeks burned pink before making her way over to her car.
If she had to, she would tell him all about her.
But only if it was necessary.
Only if it meant keeping him safe.
