Chapter 3:

00:49, 15 May 2023

*LUNA'S POV:

Today I'll have to go shopping to get some snacks for tonight. Even though it was simply my family, Eddie and me, and Zoie and Jalen, we'd still need some snacks, right? My grandma obviously won't have a huge selection, so we're stuck buying our own. I grabbed the usual chips, cookies, veggies, etc., and put them in my basket. Other groceries were thrown in as well.

My phone buzzed from my purse.

Eddie: come over

-I can't right now. I'm grocery shopping.

Eddie: After that?

-We'll see each other tonight!

Eddie: So? I wanna see my girlfriend.

Eddie: pleaseeee

-I'm shopping!

Eddie: get us snacks and then come

-god you're so needy. Is this a booty call?

Eddie: babbeeeeeeeeeee

-I'll think about it.

Eddie: Audy

-Little fiesty, aren't we?

Eddie: It's what you do to me.

-Keep it clean.

Eddie: Eh.

Deciding to leave him on hold, I finished roaming the store and getting what was needed. Checking out and heading to my car was fairly quick, along with putting the bags in the trunk.

-Your room better be clean.

Eddie: Shit

-10 minutes!

Eddie: Okay, okay!

"Stuck on a licorice space again?" Eddie just about yelled. "That's the third damn time!"

"And yet you're still ahead of me!" I screamed, moving the blue gingerbread man to the green square on the Candy Land game board.

"Not by much. You're five spaces behind with another turn."

Picking up another card, it revealed itself to be purple. Ha! That's the space just after Eddie's red gingerbread man. He glared at me, but declared his future victory while picking up another playing card. His piece got to move to the peanut block, which was far ahead of my position. He did end up winning the first game, but we played three more times. I won the second time, he won the third. Eddie was just about to win the fourth game, but I flipped the board aggressively before he could get to the multi-colored square of King Candy.

"Hey!" he yelled, looking at me.

I fluttered my eyelashes, asking innocently, "What?"

"You owe me a kiss for that."

"Do I? I don't see that in the instructions." I said, picking up the paper.

"Oh, it's in there, just-" he started, but stopped by taking the paper, pressing his lips against mine and holding me to the floor.

"This definitely wasn't in the instructions." I breathed when Eddie's lips moved from my lips to my neck.

"Oh?" he asked, towering above me. "How about this?"

His hands quickly moved to my waist, tickling me. I tried fighting back but he had me pinned pretty well. In addition to the tickling, he would plant quick little kisses on my lips, face, and neck. He stopped when his mom opened the door. "Hi, Auntie."

"Hi, Susan." I said, turning my head to look at her.

"Hello, dear. Eddie what are you doing to the poor girl?" his aunt asked.

"She flipped the board before I could win." he said blankly.

Susan shook her head, closing the door.

"Where was I?" he asked, and quickly started where he left off, but an annoying ringtone ruined his ego. He huffed, grabbing my phone from the bed. "I'm gonna tell whoever is calling to fuck off─oh, shit, it's your dad. I'm not telling him that."

I laughed and answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, we're gonna head out in a few minutes. Are you coming with us or meeting us there?"

"I'm gonna meet you guys there. Jalen and Zoie are swinging by Eddie's to pick us up."

"Alright, get there safely."

"Will do," I cooed. "Oh, and by the way, Eddie has something to say to you."

"What's that?"

Eddie's eyes went wide as I held myself back from laughing. The phone was up to Eddie's lips.

"Just wanted to tell you that I'm always respecting your daughter!"

"Good boy," he said, "see ya in a bit."

"That didn't sound like fuck off to me." I teased, tossing my phone back on the bed. "And I don't agree with that comment. You basically manhandled me before he called."

"And I'm about to do it again." he smirked, going straight for the neck. Another phone call came through. I laughed as Eddie groaned yet again, angry with the amount of current cock-blocking. He answered the phone with a "Fuck off!"

"Eddie!"

"Relax it's Zoie. She said we need to stop having sex and come out to the car because they're here."

"Tragic," I said sarcastically, brushing my lips against his and walking away to gather my things. I could feel the tension. You could cut it with a knife.

We trotted down the front steps and slid into the back of Jalen's car. After greeting everyone, I steered the driver into the right direction of my grandmother's house. Jalen looked at me through the rear view mirror and asked what the plan was. I simply explained the relationship with my grandma and he nodded.

"Zoie told me she lives in a cabin. Is it one of those isolated, no internet type living arrangements?"

I laughed, but I agreed. Although she does have a television. Grandpa needed to watch his sports.

"That means no wifi, JJ." Zoie teased. "You'll live."

"God, don't call me that." he chuckled, smacking her arm.

We listened to music the rest of the way. I sat sideways in my seat so my feet were sprawled out all over Eddie's lap. I motioned to the dirt road that was easy to miss. We followed it until we saw the home. Zoie gasped when the car drove nearer, claiming her amazement. To someone who didn't spend a majority of their childhood here, I guess it would be. To me it's simply an old cabin in the middle of the woods, like one of those mysterious ones you see during movies in a way. It was always intriguing.

As the four of us tumbled out of Jalen car, the front screen door opened with a loud creak and out came my grandma, a wide smile painted on her face. Embracing me tightly, she rocked side to side as I followed. The hug was warm and comforting; nothing like I had in the last few years. She spoke softly yet firmly, "Oh how I've missed you, my dear Luna."

"I've missed you, too, MeMe." I smiled, stepping back. "How have you been?"

"Excellent, I'm at peace with everything, but we'll talk more about that when it's privately family time." she answered, looking over my shoulder.

I went on to introduce the rest of the group, starting with Zoie. MeMe remembered her from earlier years since the two of us have been best friends since toddlerhood. The two of them exchanged welcomes and Zoie then introduced Jalen as her boyfriend, who politely shook hands with MeMe and thanked her for the hospitality.

"Speaking of boyfriends, where's your Luna? I've heard so much about him but I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him."

I looked around for him but was just as puzzled. Jalen stepped in to say, "Mike grabbed him real quick. He'll be back."

The two of us nodded and she motioned for us to head inside. Zoie and I obliged while Jalen went to see if the guys needed anymore help. For as worn out as it looked on the outside, the house was well kept on the inside, just as I remembered it. No dirt or dust covered any part of the house features. Picture frames hung along the walls, displaying variations of my baby pictures to Mom's baby pictures. Some ones of family scattered throughout along with the occasional pet. Not a single picture of Grandpa anywhere though.

Zoie and I sat in the kitchen for a few minutes, eating and chatting away. The food I had brought slowly decreased in amount minute by minute. It was all gone after the boys joined considering they're human vacuum cleaners when it comes to food.

"Here's some drinks for you guys." Dad said, rolling in a small cooler.

"No alcohol? C'mon Mikey." Jalen whined.

"Yeah nice try, boy. You guys aren't in college yet." He replied. "Well we're mainly going to be in the basement from what Mom's told me. Apparently she went through a hoarding phase, so yay for cleaning things out. You're more than welcome to join us."

"No one is gonna join, Dad, sorry." I laughed.

They headed down to the basement, leaving the four of us to ourselves upstairs. The eerie silence of isolation encouraged music, causing Zoie to bring out her speaker. An all too familiar song came on and she yelled in delight. Being the only one dancing, the rest of us needed some convincing. I nudged at Jalen, asking if he planned on joining his dance partner. Might as well, he answered, standing up and going behind the girl to poke her sides. She squealed in surprise.

"Dance with me!" she yelled, grabbing Jalen's wrists. He put his hands on her hips and started stepping side to side slowly, sorta like how middle-school couples dance.

"Is that what we look like when we dance?" Eddie questioned, raising an eyebrow.

I scoffed, "Sure as hell hope not."

***

We messed around with music for about an hour before boredom took over. No one could think of a good game, and we weren't going to play the typical 'truth or dare'. Instead the choice was the pathetic 'would you rather'.

"Are you serious? Would you rather?" Zoie whined.

"Do you have another bright idea, Einstein? Besides, it's a lot better than the actual movie about this game!" I replied. "The guy asked questions to this group of people and which ever part they picked, they actually had to do it. Let's just say, it's in the horror movie category."

"Um, no thanks, but I'll start." Zoie said. "Alright, Eddie! Would you rather give up your voice or your hearing?"

"Uh, well either way I'd have to learn sign language and that's pretty badass." he answered, "But I guess my voice since I could still enjoy music."

"Okay, buddy. It was a one part question. I didn't need an explanation."

"Zoie, don't be rude!" I scolded.

"Audy, kiss me or Jalen?" Eddie smirked.

Zoie rolled her eyes, "Fucking lame,"

"Shut the hell up!" I swore, then turning back to Eddie to give him a kiss.

"You're taking too long. I'm going again. Eddie, kill Jalen or Audy?"

I asked, "Why are you asking him another question?"

"Show me where I can't! Now answer."

"That's harsh, Zoe," Eddie answered.

"Well you gotta choose. Best friend or girlfriend?"

"Well I definitely couldn't kill my girl." he said, wrapping his arms around my middle and pulling me back closer. "Sorry, Jalen."

He looked offended. "Dude, what happened to Bro Code?"

"She's an exception." he smiled, hugging me. "Jalen, legs for arms or arms for legs?"

"Arms for legs." he casually answered. "Zosie, kiss me or Eddie?"

"I'd rather die."

"Hey!"

"Okay, I'm kidding. You, of course." she said, also kissing him. "Although if you ever call me Zosie again, you're gonna die."

"You're taking too long! My turn!" I mocked.

"Zoie, would you rather risk your life for me or Jalen?"

"The chances of me saving your life are pretty slim right now."

"Answer my question!"

"Fine, unlike your little boyfriend over there, I'll stick with Girl Code and save your ass." she answered.

"Aw, I'm touched." I smiled, putting my hand to my heart.

"I'm not!" Jalen yelled.

It went on for about two more questions until I spoke up about being bored. The other three groaned, completely agreeing with my statement. Zoie mentioned something about Twister possibly being in Jalen's trunk from a graduation party, so the two of them went out to check, leaving Eddie and I in the living room alone. Eddie waited until they walked outside to pounce on me again, similar to this evening.

"Since we've been rudely interrupted all day. . ." he trailed off, working his way down to my neck.

"Calm yourself, cowboy. My family is downstairs." I said, pulling his head back up and poking his nose.

"They've caught us making out before." he smirked proudly, "Remember the time your dad threw me out of the house into the rain?"

"Yeah, and it took half a year for him to let us be alone again!"

"Oh hush and let me kiss you." he winked, pressing his lips against mine. Eddie's hands fell from my arms to my sides, casually making way to my thighs. He broke away and began to kiss along my jawline, slowly moving down to my neck until pulling away abruptly.

"What?" I asked breathlessly. "Are they coming?"

"No,"

"Then why'd you stop?"

"To see if you'd beg me to keep going."

"Oh please," I laughed, "I know how to control myself."

"Do you?" he challenged, lightly brushing his fingertips up my stomach, "Then why do you quiver every time I touch you?"

I changed the subject quickly, obviously getting flustered by his teasing. "Go find out why they're taking so long!"

He felt pride in himself for being right and climbed off of me, jokingly warning me not to fall into the toilet as he walked out the door. I jogged upstairs and down the hallway to the bathroom. As I finished and continued to walk back, a thump came from behind a closed door. Doing a double take, my heart pounded from the sudden scare as I took notice to the eerie glow coming from the bottom of the frame. Perhaps it was a flashlight neglected to have been turned off, so as I tried to open the door to fix the problem, I realized the door was locked. Oh well.

"Luna! Hurry up!"

-

*EDDIE'S POV:

"You fell in, didn't you?" I jokingly asked Luna.

"Yeah, I had to dry my ass off and everything." she replied, waving her hand to address Jalen and Zoie. "Wow, thank you for joining us again! What, did you two have a quickie in the back seat or something?"

"Shut your mouth!" Zoie screeched, flinging open the game mat.

She came down and pecked me on the cheek, watching as the other couple struggled to spread out the multicolored plastic spread of a game. Luna announced her hunger and the rest of us joined. The two of us went to fetch the rest of the snacks from the kitchen, placing them in bowls and setting them on the coffee table in the main room. Once everything was settled, they started the game. I knew I'd have to use the bathroom before starting my turn, so I went to do that as Cait took her turn.

"I'm going to the bathroom." I stated, heading towards the stairs.

"Okay, hurry back!" Luna yelled, putting her foot on a blue dot.

The boards of the wooden stairs creaked beneath my feet with each step. Where the light switch could be found was beyond me, so I maneuvered my way through the narrow, pitch black hallway. Nothing creepy about that. Then one door revealed a glowing light from behind it, which I assumed was some kind of nightlight like most bathrooms have in houses such as this one. Though when I reached for and turned the doorknob, it didn't open. Wiggling at the door and kicking it at the bottom, I managed to successfully pry it open. As I swung the door towards myself, a plastic container fell from one of the higher shelves and fell to my feet. Shit, this was a closet. Bending down to pick up the fallen item, I noticed the lid had popped off and that there was a small firefly buzzing around. Assuming the bug had been in the jar and that's the light I was seeing, I tried to trap it again but lost it for a moment. A sharp pinch burned behind my left ear, causing me to take in a harsh intake of air and instinctively reach for the wound. Nothing was there when I felt around. Can fireflies bite? What the hell was that? I mumbled to myself, but was relieved to find the firefly in the jar, in which I closed the lid and placed it back on a shelf in the closet. After walking down the rest of the hall, I finally found a room with a sink.

"There's the bathroom." I laughed to myself. "Duh.".........................................................A/N: What do you guys think is gonna happen next?👀
