Chapter 2:

08:28, 9 May 2023

*LUNA'S POV:

"A promise ring? It's about time! He might as well have made it an engagement one!" Zoie screamed through the phone.

"Stop! It's still gorgeous." I answered.

"I'm coming over right now."

"Right now?"

"Well, no but I'm coming over later. Oh, my baby finally got a promise ring!" she squealed again.

"It's not that big of a deal," I said blankly.

"Oh, please, you know damn well he wants it to be an engagement ring. Besides, the list goes ring pop, promise ring, engagement ring, and then wedding ring. You, honey, are now officially one step closer to engagement ring. See you later!"

"Bye?"

Original plans for today were relaxing on this beautiful Wednesday, but I guess now since she's coming over I have to get out of bed. Yesterday's outfit was still my current attire because I had never bothered to change yet. I tossed on some comfortable clothes and waited for the boisterous arrival of my best friend.

"What's up, bitch!"

There she is.

"Zoie!"

"C'mon, let me see the thing," she said, motioning me downstairs.

"Nah, I like it up here," I said , leaning against the banister.

"You little shit. Get down here."

I challenged her. "You come up here."

"Fine."

The two of us used the privacy of my bedroom to squeal about yesterday. She admired the ring in awe, asking if he had gotten himself anything similar. I answered accordingly, explaining the more manly version that dangles from his neck. Nearly every detail about yesterday and the night before slipped from my tongue.

"Okay, okay! Enough about Eddie and I," I interrupted, "spill about you and Jalen. You two have been together almost every day this week!"

"He took me on a date date the other night."

"Where? Details."

"The fair just outside of town. It was kinda small but had just the right amount of entertainment. It was really fun, actually──especially the House of Mirrors. Jalen ran into the glass five times. I mean, after I was done pissing myself from laughing, I ran into one, too though. It took us a half-hour to get out of there. A little kid even passed us." she said, flailing her arms around.

I laughed, "You should've followed the kid."

"I had my own child to watch," she said, rolling her eyes with a playful smile. "Anyways, after that, he made me go on that big Ferris wheel-"

"How come you never go on the Ferris wheel with me?" I shrieked, spitting out some of the drink I was sipping on. "You hate them!"

"He forced me! I was practically a prisoner. I was freaking terrified, okay? He held my hand the entire time as he promised, but that didn't mean that the asshole didn't swing the cart back and forth."

"Oh, god. That's the only terrifying part about Ferris wheels. I hate when people do that."

"And listen to this──he took me to that god awful petting zoo afterward."

"He didn't,"

"He did!" she yelled.

"Are you seriously still traumatized from the one we went to when we were younger?"

"The goats attacked me," she emphasized.

I retaliated, "They were hungry and wanted the food you were hogging."

"Whatever, and I'm not traumatized by the animals, I just don't like them. I mean, come on! One goat rammed my ass! Jalen thought it was hilarious as I stood there."

I busted out laughing.

"That was his reaction," she said. "Then he realized I really didn't want to be there so we left. We rode a couple more rides and stayed to watch the fireworks."

"I love watching the fireworks with Eddie," I added, "he always tickles me when those firefly looking ones explode."

"That's what Jalen does sometimes, or he'll just yell and scare the shit out of me. Then we just went back to his house, the rest is a blur."

"What do you mean blur? Are you leaving something out?" I asked, curious.

"What? No, I just-"

"Mmhmm," I hummed, "I'm keeping an eye on you two."

"I'm not into that Audy," she said innocently, sipping on her straw. "Anyway, can we go shopping? Let's make it like a girls' day."

I happily agreed as the two of us hopped in my car and drove to one of the better malls about a half-hour away. We had the windows down and the music blasting, laughing and singing to whatever we wanted. Of course, when we got there, neither of us had a clue as to what we were looking for. Dresses are always the go-to fun fashion show choice, so that section was the first stop. Zoie threw me a cute romper as I looked at the summer apparel hanging along the walls. Armfuls of clothes came to the dressing rooms, enclosing us into a tighter space. Typical shop-til-you-drop situation. I absolutely adored the romper and a few other items, so I gathered everything and walked out of the stall.

"You almost done?" I asked, scrolling through my phone.

Eddie: whatcha doing??

──Shopping

Eddie: for what

──guess ;)

Eddie: I like the sound of that ;) send pics for me?????

Eddie: I'm just joking pls don't send pictures of u in underwater ...atleast not now...

──underwater ?

Eddie: UNDERWEAR*

"Yeah, I'm-what are you smiling about?" Zoie asked.

"Nothing," I answered, shoving my phone into my back pocket.

"Mhm, yeah, okay. Have those sexting seminars taught you nothing?"

"We were not sexting! That's, that's icky!"

"From that boy? Hoho, I don't think so." she winked, fanning herself.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"You know what I mean. That boy is a looker. Don't think I don't see the way you look at him, and not to mention the way he looks at you. It's precious. You two can't keep your eyes off each other." she said, hanging some clothes back up.

"Well," I said, blushing.

"He really loves you. It's hard to find real love nowadays. So seeing it between you two is just amazing."

"We're only teenagers. Who knows what could happen?"

"You've been dating for three years, honey."

"I know," I said, "but still, you never know."

"Oh, I do know. I know that I will be standing next to you at the altar as you exchange vows and rings."

"Who says you'll be my maid of honor?"

"Someone who wants to live to see their wedding day."

I giggled. "Let's eat, I'm starving."

"I was hoping you'd say that," she said with a sigh of relief.

"Yeah, where do you want to-" I was cut off by my phone buzzing in my pocket.

Eddie: hello?????????????????????

I went to answer, but Zoie took my phone and started texting back.

"Give me my phone back!" I shouted, embarrassed by the conversation on the screen.

"Ah, ah, ah. It's a girls' day, which means no more sexting lover boy," she said, waving her finger at me. "You'll get your phone back in the car. Let's go to the food court, I'll b-oh great, now he's calling! Oh, no. It's your mom."

"Hello?"

"Hello, sweetie. Whatcha doing?"

"Zoie and I are out shopping." I answered.

"Oh, that sounds fun! Find anything cute?"

"Yeah, a few things actually. Hey, do you think she could spend the night?"

"So she's inviting herself to sleep over, huh?"

"I heard that, Amanda!" Zoie shouted in my ear.

"Ha, good one. I'm telling her to. She might as well stay."

"You know I'm just joking. Of course she can stay." she laughed, "Well anyways, I have some news. Your grandmother is coming for a visit. You know, MeMe?"

"MeMe's coming? Why?"

"She hasn't been very social lately. All she does is stay at the house. Without Grandpa, she's lonely. I think it's great that she wants to visit."

"I think it's great, too. When's she coming?"

"Some time next week. I want her to get out more so she'll be spending a few nights." Mom replied. "I gotta go. Love you."

"Love you too."

Wow, that certainly was some news. I haven't seen her nearly as often as I'd like to since my grandfather passed away. She's gone through, and still kinda is, a distant-hermit like phase. Maybe she's finally coming out of it.

"Everything good?" Zoie asked, readjusting her bags.

"Oh, yeah. She just mentioned how my grandma is apparently coming to stay next week "

"Your MeMe? I haven't seen her in years."

"Yeah, it's been a bit for me, too. She couldn't make it to my graduation party. I'm excited, though. She can finally meet Eddie."

Zoie asked, shocked, "She's never met Eddie?"

"Nope," I said, "But she'll love him."

As my stomach growled as I finished that statement, I remembered the whole food ordeal and suggested we eat before hangry-ness took over. After that, we drove back to my house where we did what normal teenagers do nowadays──sitting and playing on our phones. Occasionally there would be a laugh and a funny picture shown to the other, along with something completely irrelevant making us burst into tears. That stopped once Mom returned home, where I then went to greet her and ask more about MeMe's sudden reappearance to the family.

"Well," she started, "we're all going over to the house in a few days to help get her re-situated with everything. Then we'll just bring her back here for a stay."

"That sounds nice." I nodded. "How long is she staying?"

"Days, weeks, not really sure. It's still pretty early to know what she wants to do. I know you'll probably be bored out of your mind while there, so if anyone like Zoie or Eddie wants to tag-along, they can. You guys can have a little groove-on."

"Please never say that again," I giggled. "Whatcha say, Zoie?"

"I'm down to get my groove on."

I rolled my eyes, but Mom appreciated the effort. "For that one, you can even invite Jalen."

"Okay! I'll have to text him. Thank you for the invite."

"No problem, hun.".....................................................A/N: if only I had a boyfriend. Wow just imagine. It's going to pick up the pace soon! This party is next and it gets a teeeeeeny bit intense. Just keep reading pLeAsE. I realize how slow this is going so just bear with me.
