Chapter 22
09:01, 15 September 2020This chapter is gonna be a feel good cuz I believe we all could use some wholesomeness in times when it's not so positive outside 😊_________________________________
"Surely this is a joke," I muttered in disbelief.
"I joke a lot, but this is not one of them," Seokjin retorted.
"Kim Seokjin. I am seeing items with triple digits in front of them," I remarked.
"It's necessities babe."
"What baby needs three-hundred sixty-five outfits?!" I snapped.
"One for each day of the year," he softly replied.
I let out an exasperated sigh and shook my head in utter bewilderment.
"Seokjin...this is too much. Our daughter is going to be a spoiled brat. I know that all you want to do is give her the best and make sure she never has to struggle for anything on her own, but I promise you, even if you give her the minimum, she will be more than fine. I want her to be stable and know that she has her parents, specifically you to fall back on, but the world is gonna eat her alive and pick her apart for being the child of someone wealthy. I don't think I could ever bear the thought of her getting picked on for that, so please, let's keep it mellow. Get what's needed and a bit more maybe, but let's not necessarily put our funds somewhere when they could be better used somewhere else. As time goes on, we'll adjust and buy more."
Seokjin nodded slowly, understanding my words. But there was a lingering hesitance.
He looked at me with wide eyes, his expression ridden with fear.
"I'm sorry baby. The last thing I want to do is put my child in that position. I promised myself that if I ever had a kid, I'd make sure that they respected those who weren't as fortunate as them and I would teach them to rely on their own skills rather than a pocket full of cash. Even though I'm not a good example of that, I promised myself I'd do that. But...when I think about that tiny little human living inside of you, I just want to give her the world and make sure she loves her daddy as much as he loves her."
I cooed at his earnest words, cupping his face in my hands.
"Baby, our little girl is going to adore you. Knowing my genes inside of her, she'll be a daddy's girl. You don't need to shower her in diamonds for her to love you. If you're yourself around her, the same goofy Jinnie that cracks stupid jokes and arrogantly talks to himself in the mirror, that's the father she'll adore," I said.
He smiled warmly, "You're perfect. Have I ever told you that? You could arguably be more perfect than me."
I laughed, "Wow, quite the compliment."
The two of us finally got out of the car, staring in awe at the large baby store. It was hard to believe that there was an entire department store created to cater to the needs of new parents with baby fever.
Honestly, we had lots of shopping to do. What Seokjin wanted was excess, but what we genuinely needed was still a large investment. I was worried that everything wouldn't fit in the car honestly, but Seokjin said he'd have them deliver some of the stuff.
The two of us had masks on so we wouldn't be recognized and could go about our shopping in peace. Seokjin slipped his hand into mine and led me into the vast store.
Even with a mask on it honestly smelled like babies. That smell of powder mixed with different nostalgic scents of toys and whatnot.
Honestly, I felt like a child. I was so excited to buy everything that I practically dragged Seokjin with me everywhere.
"Wait babe. We need a plan. We should buy things in order so that we don't spend hours wandering," Seokjin said monotonously.
I rolled my eyes, "Don't be boring Jinnie! Come on, who knows if we'll ever get to do this again. Nothing is as fun as baby shopping on your first pregnancy. The best part is getting lost and wandering around. It makes everything more surreal."
I looked at him with big and pleading eyes, desperately hoping he'd humor my childishness.
He relented, letting me pull him around the store as we begun our baby excursions.
The first place the two of us ended up stumbling into was the feeding section for newborns and young infants.
I pulled out the screenshot of the list my doctor had recommended, scanning through the items.
"Ahh oh my god Yubin look at these adorable pacifiers!" Seokjin exclaimed, his face lighting up excitedly.
He shoved a pack of three adorable looking pacifiers with different designs on them. One had piano keys on it, another had a ladybug design, and the last one was shaped like a smiley face.
I cooed at how cute they were, happiness warming my whole body as I eagerly agreed with Seokjin.
I looked through the shelves for proper bottles and nipples just in case we needed to bottle feed Suyeon. I picked up a ten-pack that came with both as well as a bottle brush and was a pretty highly recommended brand.
After that, I dropped in some breastfeeding essentials like a breast pump and a few other items that would make it easier for me to manage breastfeeding.
Seokjin very happily dropped in some bibs and burp cloths before looking at me for advice when picking a high chair.
"Just get something that'll be safe. I wouldn't recommend plastic. I feel like that'll break easily," I advised.
Seokjin nodded, finally deciding on a wooden high chair which he shoved at the bottom of the shopping cart.
We had gone through one part of the essentials of baby care and we were already filling up the cart. I was certain we'd probably need another one.
After double checking that we got all the feeding supplies the two of us ended up sauntering over to the baby bathing section.
I internally squealed at the thought of getting baby bath supplies. Little shampoo for her precious scalp. Little did I know Seokjin was going through the same excitement I was the whole time.
The two of us stood with a strangely parental stance as we glazed over the different products and tried to decide on the best brand. We got into a mini-argument on which was better though. He insisted that the most expensive brand of shampoo and body wash was the best while I said that the one I always heard about from some friends was better.
I sighed, "Look, let's compromise. I'm sure they're both good. Why don't we get the expensive body wash, and my shampoo?"
Seokjin clearly was not willing to negotiate, and I swear I saw the businessman in him peak out for a second.
"CEO Kim, it's quite immature not to negotiate. What you're doing isn't a power play. It's just petty," I harshly chided, forcing him to reluctantly comply.
We also picked up a baby bathtub, some washcloths, a few soft towels, and some lotion as well as baby powder.
The trip was going by a bit faster than we hoped so the two of us decided to be cute and meander to the part we were most excited about.
The clothes and the toys!
We excitedly dug through the clothes, both very audibly shrieking at all the adorable baby wear. I honestly didn't care who was looking because I had the craziest case of baby fever ever and I was in literal heaven.
I picked out onesie after onesie, letting out happy squeaks at each outfit.
I was practically drowning in onesies.
"Ahh this duck one is so cute! Oh my god but this one is a little puppy! Aww but this one is a ladybug! Ahh oh my god the lion one is so cute! Oh my god wait she could be a penguin though! Or what about this one with all the princesses on it?! Is that Olaf?!"
I placed all the onesies against my stomach, an unexplainable euphoria building up in my chest.
God damn I was way too happy.
"Yubin! I'm in heaven!" Seokjin yelled.
He emerged from another rack with several onesies and shirts in them.
I grinned when I saw how many of them said things along the lines of 'daddy's little girl' or 'daddy's peanut.'
The two of us were so in love that we decided to get all the ones we had in our hands. On top of that we picked up a few pants, some rompers, some sweaters and jackets, and some pajamas.
Seokjin excitedly picked up some booties and newborn hats while I got the baby blankets, concluding our clothing frenzy.
The next fun thing on the list was toys.
And oh my god when I say our inner child jumped out. The two of us practically ravaged the toy sections picking up every single cute stuffed animal in sight.
"Oh my god Jinnie! We have to get this! It looks just like you!" I giggled.
Seokjin came over curiously to see what I was holding. His face contorted in confusion and exaggerated hurt as he saw that I was holding an alpaca.
"Oh come on, don't be so grumpy! It's so cute!" I cooed, putting it right next to his face.
"I hate you for this. But I'm imagining how cute you look giggling behind that mask so I'll allow it," he hummed.
I pumped my fist in the air in victory before quickly putting the alpaca in the very very very fully shopping cart.
We put a few more stuffed animals in the cart as well as a play mat before ending the fun and going back to getting the more essential stuff.
The next place we ended up wandering into was the section for bedding. My heart swelled at the sight of the cribs on display. I imagined her cute little face laying in one as she looked up with her big beautiful eyes.
Seokjin and I had already extensively discussed the bedding we wanted her to have and had come to a consensus on that front which was good because he easily picked it up and put it into the cart. We also picked up some baby monitors before finally trying to choose the crib we wanted.
All of them looked sturdy enough so we went with the most well known one.
Seokjin desperately tried to shove it onto the bottom of the cart, pushing the high chair box to the very back.
He wiped his imaginary sweat off of his eyebrows, shooting me a smug look. I couldn't see his mouth but I knew there was an arrogant smirk on his face.
I rolled my eyes, simultaneously turning around. My gaze landed on something making my whole body light up in delight.
"Ahh Jinnie! Look at the mobiles!" I squealed.
I rushed over to the different mobiles, staring in awe at the adorable designs.
Some had princesses and princes on them, others had cute animals, and some had adorable characters.
My eyes were locked onto an adorable one with Line characters dangling from the top.
"Oh my god look at that one! It's so cute!" I cooed, reaching out to touch it.
Seokjin eyed me curiously as I childishly gawked at the mobile. I failed to notice the shy smile plastered over his face, but I could feel the joy emanating from him.
"Get it silly. Our Suyeonnie is gonna need something to look at while she sleeps. It might as well be Sally, Brown, Cony, Choco, Pangyo, Jessica, Moon, and Leonard," he said.
I stared at him slack-jawed.
"What?"
I coughed, "N-nothing. Just shocked that the most intimidating man in the country knows all of the Line characters."
I saw his cheeks rise meaning he was giving his usual cheeky smile.
He delicately picked up the mobile and placed it in the cart, cheekily pushing it along without giving me a chance to overcome my shock.
I chased after him, ending up stumbling into the dreaded diaper section.
Seokjin let out an audible sigh, "I keep forgetting the diaper part of this whole parent thing."
I snorted, "Haha, that's the fun part."
He gagged, "Poop and pee filled cloth. How fun."
I playfully hit him, "Better get used to it papa."
I bent down and picked up the boxes of diapers with a little angel pictured next to the cute baby model. Seokjin begrudgingly took them and shoved them in the bottom of the cart.
I also passed him a few boxes of baby wipes, some diaper cream, and a very adorable diaper bag.
"You know, you had your poop and pee cleaned at one point. I bet your older brother had to do it too," I teased.
He dramatically pretended he was about to hurl.
"If you keep talking I will leave the store and make you pay for everything," he threatened.
I pushed the cart happily, "You know you wouldn't. You love me too much."
He scoffed, "Wait and see."
We wandered around a bit more, exhaustion setting in as we had been there for a few hours.
But we only had a few things left so we were determined to push through.
We headed to the health section and picked up things like a baby nail clipper and a baby thermometer.
And finally to round it out, we went to the baby gear section and picked up a carseat, stroller, baby carrier, and just for fun a baby swing too.
By then, the cart was overflowing, and while I struggled to push it, Seokjin was holding at least four big boxes and stumbling around as we made our way to the counter.
Luckily, we made it without too much of a hassle and were able to make it to the cashier who gave us a very sympathetic look.
She slowly scanned all of our items while I anxiously watched Seokjin take out his black card. I knew as soon as she scanned it she'd know who he was and the fear of rumors being started or my identity being exposed still sat in my mind.
I gauged her surprised reaction when Seokjin handed her the card, and internally grimaced when she swiped it and the name came up.
"CEO—"
Seokjin firmly shook his head, and I could feel his body tense into his serious posture.
"Don't say anything to anyone," he deadpanned.
She quickly nodded, placing all of our items except the ones we were getting delivered back in the cart.
We quickly left and rolled the cart to our car. Seokjin shoved everything in the back and managed to fit everything despite it being very cramped.
And finally after a long day of shopping, we were able to drive home for a much needed rest.
Seokjin's hand found its way into mine as he drove with the other hand. He reassuringly squeezed my hand, his warmth enveloping mine callused palm.
It felt so surreal.
I mean holy crap—
We're gonna be parents.
