Post-Session 7 [Part 1]

02:32, 27 October 2019

"I'm writing it in my head at the moment" Y/N said as she stepped off the bus and into the street.

"The entire case sounds wobbly" Professor James said, his tone full of honesty.

"If I have to explain it in a public bus, yes, it is" She said, speeding up. "But I can definitely get it to stick with all the evidence and testimonies I have"

"You will have to call in witnesses" Professor James said.

"I know" She said, pulling the door to the police station open. "In fact, I'm on my way to meet one now"

She kept moving until she spotted Seonghwa coming back with a bunch of papers in hand.

"I'll pass by campus later today" She said. "Is that alright?"

"I'll contact Miss Yi, see what she has to say" Professor James said just as the line went dead.

"Will it be too much to ask what are you doing here?" Seonghwa asked once he was close enough.

Y/N pulled the key out of her pocket.

"You just became a witness to a case" She said as quietly as possible.

Seonghwa's jaw tensed as he tilted his head towards the conference room. She didn't take another second as she moved her feet over.

"What the-" "Irene" She said quickly once the door was closed. "I'm focusing the trial on Irene"

Seonghwa frowned as he moved to place the papers on the table.

"Care to explain?" He asked, placing his weight on his hands.

"Irene can be charged with murder on a life sentence if the story adds up." She said. "I told San I could get him 25 years, but with what he told me I can get him a Voluntary Manslaughter charge if I can play this thing right"

"How do you get 13 accounts of murder under voluntary Manslaughter!?" Seonghwa asked.

"If you put 12 on another person" She said. "There are signs of aggression that Irene showed the girls before they disappeared. And you can also ask witnesses about it"

She opened her eyes a little more to emphasize that he was one of said witnesses.

"That or he gets second degree with Irene running around freely" She said.

"Why can't Irene be put through with San on that one?" Seonghwa asked.

"Irene has the card she used on the trial" She said. "Abuse"

Seonghwa let out a breath.

"You're one unique son of a bitch" He muttered, most likely referring to San.

"San will be getting a decade or even a little more" She said. "He is still paying a long time but not under the same case as Irene. After all, she was the one that wanted them dead"

"It still sounds morally wrong." He said.

"Seonghwa" She said. "Everything, in this case, is wrong. If you want me to go the nice person route then all of you are being charged with murder."

He looked up and raised an eyebrow.

"Accomplice charge" She said shrugging.

"I can also get him a charge of second degree and involuntary" She stated. "You decide"

"Why me?" He asked.

"You seem to be the most knowledgeable about all of this. You are a detective Seonghwa" She said.

Seonghwa didn't move a muscle as his eyes remained on the table. His shoulders and jaw were tense just as his arms seemed to bulge up in anger.

"I'll be over at campus building my own statement and convincing a lawyer to help. If you make a decision, tell me, because I can very well drag every one of you down this rabbit hole" She said once she noticed he was going to stay silent.

Her steps were quick as she moved and left the conference room, making sure to get out of the station as quickly as possible. She just hoped she could catch a bus.

"You could say it's a hunch" Y/N told Professor James.

"Do you have a clear set for this?" Miss Yi asked.

"All the girls before had clear notions of threats and even rumors being spread that came from Miss Lee. Even some statements of agression" She said. "The only one that was left intact was Miss Kang, who at the time was dating Mr. Choi"

"You have a compelling case" Miss Yi stated. "But you will have to bring me more evidence that matches forensics and find me those witnesses"

Y/N nodded quickly before standing up and bowing to the woman as she left.

"Please tell me you got that down" Professor James asked quietly.

Y/N pulled up a roll of paper from her pocket. Professor James grabbed it and walked out to his little office by the classrooms.

A big breath left her system as she finally placed a basis for whatever fuckery she was about to sit through.

Her phone rang, making her jump almost instantly.

She picked it up quickly, hoping it was Seonghwa or Jungho, something she never hoped she would ask for.

"Y/N" Mingi said.

She sighed almost instantly.

"What do you want?" She asked, her voice full of annoyance.

"To talk this out" She heard from the entrance.

Y/N could feel the familiarity slipping back into her system. He did that a lot way back when they were still getting to know one another.

She hung up and sighed.

"I have nothing to explain" She said.

"But I do" He said taking a few strides closer to her. "A few things actually"

"Mingi" She said. "I already have a case in hand, I'm not backing down" She said.

"I know" He said. "But you need one more witness for this to work"

"And who may that be?" She said crossing her arms over her chest.

"Irene stalked San's number during our college days" He said. "Plus she made me come back from training to make a promise I suddenly found out I was not part of in the first place"

"I figured that much" She said. "Still not convincing"

"Y/N" He said.

"Mingi" She said back, hoping to annoy him until he left.

"I'm the only person who has proof of the stalking" He said, pulling out a USB drive from his pocket. "These are the photos I took when we were on a trip, all of us together. I was taking a stroll when I looked up, she was trying to get blackmail to push Lily away"

Y/N frowned.

"Lily was showing signs of liking San, allegedly. In reality, they were from the same town so they spoke a lot more loosely since they understood any reference made" He said.

Y/N shook her head.

"Why are you bringing this now?" She asked.

He sighed. "I like Irene. For a while now. And she knew it. So she used it against me to mess me over the head and help her instead of San"

"The lawyer" She finished.

"I was the one paying them, yes" Mingi said. "The rest was all her"

"She wanted him gone" She mumbled.

"Just so she was completely clear of any charges. She didn't go by the dorms because of guilt or looking for help, she needed to get the ball rolling" He said.

"What about corpse placement?" She asked.

"Me" He breathed out. "That's why Kang was where she was"

"For Irene?" She asked.

Mingi only nodded.

"I've been going over so many things under her request, I noticed once Jongho called me and told me of your plan. He didn't want me to be on her side and he finally convinced me" He said.

"Laura?" She dared ask.

"Her" He said dryly.

Y/N nodded.

"I hope you understand I'm not trusting you any time soon" She said carefully.

"Neither would I" He said. "But this is a small thing I can do"

Y/N nodded, stepping around him.

"And one more thing" She said, stopping next to him. "You will not stop this"

She moved on towards the exit. It felt different. He felt like a stranger more than a friend and, even though it hurt to admit it, she missed him.

Let's get this over with
