Session 7 [Part 2]

02:31, 27 October 2019

A tightness settled in Y/N's chest. She knew she had to push for answers now. She needed a case. She could build her plan around that. It had been way too long.

"I think it's time for you to tell me everything" She said carefully. It felt as if the words were ripping at her throat, trying to stay down. "I can help you"

"I know" He mumbled, before shifting in his seat.

He took a deep breath and Y/N mentally prepared herself. Maybe this could help her figure a way to reduce his sentence. Maybe she could get Irene in there as well, but that would include dragging Wooyoung, Hongjoong, Seonghwa and everyone else down too. She had to think this through carefully.

"Before you begin." She says. "All of this is off record"

Relief seemed to wash over San as he let out a breath.

"For clearance, I did kill them. Some were planned, others were not." He said simply.

Y/N waited patiently. She knew how this was going to go. Even though she almost ripped the others in half, she knew he was bound to tell her everything,

"Irene was the one that pin-pointed who she wanted dead and I had an unhealthy obsession with being a good boyfriend" He said. "All normality was out the window ever since I was young. I seemed to forget about boundaries."

"You did it for her?" Y/N asked.

"For myself" He said. "I needed to prove something and I chose the wrong thing. I feel like all those murders are not mine. As if they were done by another person in the end. But I know I did it"

Y/N could see the regret seeping through his skin. He was never this expressive.

"I asked Hongjoong for help once I had finally plunged Lily" He said. "But he said there was nothing to be done"

Y/N could tell it kinda matched with what she knew.

"Then I ran to Seonghwa and for a while, it was like that. Then Jongho was in trouble and I wanted to help him. Wooyoung was having a blackmail problem and I couldn't help but bust in" San shook his head. "I even asked for Yunho's help"

Y/N only nodded at his words.

"Mingi wanted to stop me. He almost did. But Irene managed to get him off our backs." He said. "Then suddenly, we finished our last job and she began to feel the regret, the guilt. She ran off to the guys' dorm with me close behind. Suddenly, we were all neck-deep into whatever mess I had created."

"The guys were nice enough to help. They made a plan to keep me alive. Send me in, but I didn't know any of them. We were all strangers. That is until Jongho told me about Mingi and Irene and then Yeosang and Yunho... and... " He trailed off.

"You felt abandoned. As if this was not the plan" She said, with him nodding at her words.

A silence fell over them.

"Azalea is nowhere in our files, neither is her late sister" She said, only to catch herself at the wrong time.

"Azalea was Russian. All I know is that she came here running away from her family." San said, only for him to frown his eyebrows. "Is Laura alright?"

Y/N swallowed.

"She passed away recently" She said, her voice way thinner than it should be.

She wanted to say more but kept her mouth shut.

"I think you know everything by now" He said.

She shook her head. "I don't. San, I'm sorry than I'm asking you this but you are going to have to tell me almost every moment of every murder"

His jaw tensed up.

"It went pretty much the same. Go to their house, murder them and then take them to the old warehouse with the meat freezer." He said quickly.

"Did you hang them?" She asked.

"Yes" He said. "Wooyoung covered the trail pretty well."

"What was Mingi's role?" She asked.

"That's something I don't actually know" He said. "Mingi was off to his training once I asked for help."

"Then you saw him here" She said.

"And he had made the promise of keeping anyone unwanted away if I failed to scare them off" San said.

"Did you ever..." Y/N paused, thinking of how to phrase her question.

"I never kissed, nor touched any doctor that sat on that chair, I can assure you that" He said.

Y/N paused before nodding.

"Irene? What did she promise?" She asked.

San frowned. "To love me"

Y/N's eyes went wide. Maybe it was in the way he said it but something felt wrong about that sentence.

"She didn't love you before?" She asked suddenly.

"She didn't love me before" He said.

A fire of sorts settled in her chest. In the end, he was made to do this. If anything, Irene was more of a psycho than the poor kid sitting inside a cell living the rest of his life toying with people's emotions to survive.

"Whatever I tell you, you probably already know," He said, shaking his head. "You have your case."

"What did you promise?" She asked.

San paused. "You noticed"

She lifted an eyebrow at his words. He was nervous. He was fidgety. But she knew this response was out of nervousness for his fate. After all, he did own this to a lot of people.

"I promised them that I would follow the plan" He said. "But I promised Irene I would find a way to get out"

Y/N blinked.

"I lied to her" He said. "And I don't really regret doing it."

A certain sense of bitterness and anger rested in San's words.

"You got her off your back. You knew since the beginning she would throw you under the bus"

"She threw me under the bus once we started dating." He said.

Y/N swallowed the lump in her throat.

"Do you hate any of them?" She asked. "The victims? Your friends? You past lovers?"

"I don't really" He said. "I don't think it's healthy"

He was distanced. He was gone inside his head, in memory most likely.

"I know what happened you Kang" She said softly. "I can't help but need to ask"

"I didn't kill her in a jealous rage. I found out after the damage was already done. That's when I knew these murders were not me fully" He said. "I even slept with some of them under the pretense of something I didn't fully grasp"

"You did it because Irene wanted it to happen" She mumbled.

Y/N could see Irene in her memory, but she was fuzzy. She knew the person but not whatever was inside that shell.

"Most of us did" She added, looking up. "Because I'm here in the end"

"I went a little out of control" He said. "I hurt myself and I refused to see them, or talk to them in Mingi's, Jongho's and Seonghwa's case."

He chuckled. "He even came during lunch hour"

"Have you seen any of the others?" She asked.

"Not really. They can't get in. I have a closed-off visitors list, there's no one on it" He said, shrugging.

Y/N smiled a little.

"Well, you kinda do" She said. "Same name twice"

She stood up. "I think this is not the last time I'm speaking to you. But here is where I stop. I got all the confirmation I needed and I think I know what we can get"

San suddenly stood up. It was strange. He held a pretty big aura once he was up. Even if he had gone way skinnier than when she last saw him.

"Do me a favor" She said softly. "Keep yourself healthy"

San frowned.

"I will get you justice" She said before grabbing the chair and moving, feeling a weird sadness as she walked farther and farther away from the young man.

She pulled out her phone and dialed. A few rings later, he finally answered.

"Y/L/N! I haven't heard from you in a while" Professor James said.

"Professor.." She trailed off for a few seconds, her chest filling up with a weird kind of excitement.

"I have the entirety of Mr. Choi's case figured out"
