PART 24

Despite being extremely nervous, Liying forced herself to calm down, but her hands betrayed her, trembling uncontrollably. Without a word, she took a step towards the door, but Gu Wei's voice stopped her. "I thought you wanted to sit in my chair" he said, looking at Katrina.

"Auntie, is it okay if she joins us for dinner?" Gu Wei aslked. Katrina smiled at him meaningfully.  "Of course"

"I've lost my appetite seeing your faces" Liying said as an excuse and tried to walk out again, but Gu Wei stopped her once more. "Lost your appetite or are you avoiding something? Hehe, it's too early for that. Do you want me to walk you out?" Gu Wei asked, but instead of responding, Liying walked out of the house.

After she left, they laughed. "I think she's finally met her match. No one usually dares to challenge her here" Katrina said and continued eating. Gu Wei glanced at Yibo and was a bit surprised to see Yibo staring at him. "Do I have something on my face?" Gu Wei asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No" Eros replied and continued eating.

Elsewhere, Liying made a call to instruct someone to find out everything about Gu Wei. "I won't let everything I've worked for be ruined. If I need to erase you from our lives, I will" Liying thought.

After they finished eating, Gu Wei excused himself to get some fresh air, while Yibo went to his brother's room to talk. "Ge" he called out while knocking, but Cheng opened the door instead. "Where is Ge?"

"He's in the bathroom. Just wait, he'll be out soon. I'm going to check on the kids," Cheng said, knowing that Yibo wanted to talk to Haikuan. "Thanks."

A few moments later, Haikuan emerged from the bathroom in his pajamas, surprised to see Eros sitting on the sofa. "Oh, did my baby brother miss me?" Haikuan teased as he sat beside Yibo. They sat in silence for a few minutes. "I know you're not here just to sit there. Spill the tea" Haikuan said.

While Wei was smoking, he paused when he heard a voice behind him. "You've changed a lot." Startled, Gu Wei didn't turn around immediately. He put out his cigarette before facing the speaker. When he finally did, he didn't say anything and just stared.

"You're deep in thought" said Katrina, but Gu Wei remained silent, still gazing at her. "It's not wrong to seek revenge, especially after what you've unjustly gone through because of him. But if you feel you can't go on and you'll both end up hurting, leave it to the law" she added, before heading back inside. "Come in soon, it's cold out here" she said before walking away. Gu Wei didn't take his eyes off her until she was out of his sight.

"She recognized me" he muttered, turning his gaze back outside and lit another cigarette. After a moment, he felt someone drape a shawl over his shoulders. Without looking, he knew who it was. "You might catch a cold," said Eros. Gu Wei didn't glance at him and continued smoking.

Above them, Haikuan was watching. "Is there a problem?" Katrina asked Haikuan. "I've been calling you, but you didn't hear me," she said, looking in the direction Haikuan was staring. "Mom, I spoke to Didi" he said, catching Katrina's attention.

"I'm all ears" said Haikuan. Eros took a deep breath before starting to speak. "Brother, since I met Gu Wei, I can't stop thinking about him. No matter how much I convince myself that he's not Zhan, my heart says he is. I know it's wrong to feel this way because he has a fiancée, and worse, he's our cousin. But I can't help thinking about him or to put it simply, liking him"  He explained.

"And it's also wrong because you already have a wife," added Haikuan, as if his brother had forgotten he was still married. Yibo looked at him. "I want to divorce Liying. I'm not happy with her. I never will be. I don't love her, brother" Yibo said, and tears began to fall from his eyes.

Katrina sighed deeply after hearing what Haikuan said. "You know, son, maybe it's best if we let them do what they want."

"And let them hurt each other even more?" Deigo, who had been listening to Katrina and Haikuan, interjected. Katrina walked over to him.

"If that's what it takes for one of them to break free from their troubled past, then that's what we'll do. I love our child, so much, and I don't want to see him hurt. But if this is the way for him to realize the mistake he made back then, that he should have trusted his husband's love more, then we'll let it happen" Katrina said. She paused when she heard a knock on the door.

She looked at the two men. "Let's just let them be and only intervene if necessary," she said, then opened the door. "Mom, we're heading home" Eros said.

"I thought you were staying over since it's already late" she replied.

"We have work tomorrow, and Gu Wei wants to stop by and see A-Yuan" Yibo explained. The three exchanged glances. "I guess I can't persuade you to stay, but next time, I'm not letting you leave" Katrina said.

They all went outside to see Yibo and Gu Wei off. "Thank you, aunty, for inviting me. I really enjoyed the food" Gu Wei said, and Katrina hugged him. "Always remember, I'm always here for you" she whispered just loud enough for Gu Wei to hear. Gu Wei hesitated but managed a small smile. "We're leaving now. Dad, Mom, brother, brother-in-law."

While they were in the car, Yibo noticed how quiet Gu Wei was. "Is there something wrong?" he asked with concern. "No, I'm just tired," Gu Wei replied briefly and closed his eyes. Seeing this, Yibo decided not to ask any more questions or speak further.

When they arrived at the hospital, they went straight to A-Yuan's room. Gu Wei couldn't help himself and hugged A-Yuan, which surprised both Yibo and A-Yuan. The two exchanged glances as if to say, 'What's going on?' But despite his confusion, A-Yuan hugged Gu Wei back.

Realizing what he had done, Gu Wei slowly pulled away. "Sorry," he apologized, and A-Yuan just smiled at him. "Dad, where's Mom?" A-Yuan asked. Yibo glanced at Gu Wei before answering, "She's at home with your brother. By the way, your cousins are back."

"Really, Dad?" A-Yuan asked excitedly. Yibo nodded. "And they said they'll visit you here tomorrow," Gu Wei added cheerfully. "Yes! I haven't seen them in a long time," A-Yuan said happily.

While driving to Gu Wei's house, Eros kept glancing at him. "If you have something to say, just say it instead of staring" Gu Wei said, looking out the car window. Yibo chuckled. "I’m starting to believe you have eyes in the back of your head. I have an auction to attend tomorrow night, and I'd like you to come with me" Yibo said.

Gu Wei looked at him. "Why me? Shouldn't you take your wife?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't take her to events like this and I want to get to know you better" Eros said, keeping his eyes on the road. "So, does that mean you're ready to ruin your family?"
