10-Friends

21:46, 16 May 2017

I woke up earlier that morning. Everyone in the homestead were still soundly sleeping in their sleeping bags. I stepped outside to go and get ready. After washing up and getting dressed, I slowly made my way to the kitchen.

"Hey there earlybird." Frypan said smiling as I entered the kitchen. I could barely give a response so I waved my hand and sat down and laid my head on one of Gally's uneven tables he had made early in his building career. "Not feeling so great?" he asked as he set a plate of food before me.

"Just couldn't sleep, so decided to come and keep you company." I said closing my eyes.

"Well don't need a med-jack sick, so eat and that's how you'll be keeping me company." he said winking and left to go and cook. "If you want to help, come and wash some dishes after you're done eating!" he shouted.

I smiled and quickly ate and headed to the back of the kitchen to help wash the dirty dishes. "Where's everyone else?" I asked seeing that it was only Frypan cooking breakfast this morning. He rolled his eyes and whispered something to himself before answering me.

"Sleeping. Because I'm about to take a break from cooking when the new greenie comes up. Cooking for the bonfires is another shucking hell that gladly you don't get to experience." Frypan said as he wiped the sweat of his on a cloth.

"I wouldn't mind. How about I help out the others when we have the bonfire? I mean that way you could truly enjoy the bonfire without worrying that the other cooks will burn down your precious kitchen without you there to take control of things." I said chuckling as I imagined him freaking out while at the bonfire.

"Are you sure?" he said raising an eyebrow. I nodded and wiped my hands on a dry cloth after washing the dirty dishes. "Alright, you crazy shank. You put yourself up for it." Frypan said smiling.

"So when is the new greenie coming?" I asked.

"In about 3 days. So it's best you train yourself for the hell hole you put yourself in." he said smirking. "Yes chef!" I said saluting him and we both laughed together. It was short lived as I heard his voice.

"Hey Frypan cook me a plate will yah!" Minho shouted from the entrance of the kitchen, and came running to the back where we both stared at each other. "Oh Suzy was here with you." he said.

"Well thanks Frypan, got to go now. See you later at lunch." I said and quickly walked past Minho and out the kitchen. I could hear him calling my name, the one that only he calls me by, Ji-ho. I didn't look back as I made my way to the med-jack tent.

"Ji-ho!" Minho's voice shouted as he yanked my arm and pulled me into a tight embrace. "I'm sorry! I know I was a shucking klunk to you and Newt last night. I was just jealous okay!" he said as I stood limp in his arms, and didn't return his embrace; it was killing me on the inside that I wanted to give up this charade and wrap my arms around him.

"Let me go." I said with no emotion whatsoever. He slowly released me and looked at me with his puffy eyes. He had been crying all night. Thankfully, after my shower my puffy eyes went away. "No matter how much you apologize, I'll never forgive you. You showed the real you to me last night, and I'm not sticking around for it. Don't ever call me Ji-ho again, from now on it's Suzy. Just like how everyone else calls me. We'll never be together. I guess I never really loved you from the start." I said and left a shocked Minho standing in the middle of the glade.

I dared not to turn around and look at Minho, for if I did, I would have ran back into his arms and wasted my efforts of letting him go. My tears stained my cheeks as I quickly made my way to the med-jack's tent.

Later that morning, Newt stopped by to check on me. "You alright?" he said as he walked into the tent. "Could be doing better." I said giving him a small smile. "How about him?" I asked staring at the ground. When Newt wasn't answering I looked up to see Newt looking worried.

"He's doing the normal routine, but I can tell that he's not putting 100% into it." Newt said sadly. "He won't even hold a conversation with anyone. Other than giving orders to the other runners. Nothing." he continued. "And for the first time ever, his hair is a complete mess." Newt said making me chuckle.

"As long as he's doing fine, then I'll be fine too." I said closing my eyes and breathing deeply. Smiling at Newt just to let him know that I would be okay, and he understood. "Come and talk to me whenever." he said before leaving the tent. I sighed and tried to concentrate on my work, but was sent to rest by Clint and Jeff in Clint's room. Since he was a keeper, he had a room similar to Minho's.

I laid in the bed, allowing the last tears that I would shed, for I would only try to remember the good memories between the both of us. I love you Minho, I whispered in my head, and cried myself to sleep.

A few days had passed, and today was when the new greenie was going to be sent. I spent the morning of that day preparing all the food that needed to be prepared. Frypan made me in charge, so I got all the other cooks up early and started the preparations.

Minho and I had not talked to one another since. We didn't even see one another in the glade other than dinner, but even then either him or I would disappear sooner or later. We weren't able to stay in the same room for longer than a minute. I knew that others in the glade was noticing the distance between the both of us. I could hear them whispering about it. Yet, no one dared to ask either of us the reason why.

"What should I do with the meat?" A cook asked. I re-told him all the instructions. I was planning on making hamburgers and fries. We had all the ingredients to make it, so why the heck not. And don't ask me how I know, but I just do.

"Even I had a hard time getting the boys to wake up this early to cook." Frypan said walking into the kitchen. To start cooking breakfast for the rest of the glade. I smirked, "Maybe it's because they never had a girl wake them up before." I said and pinched my ears then pointed to the cooks whose ears were still red from when I went to wake them up. Frypan laughed out so loud, startling the other cooks and myself, for me never heard Frypan laugh so hard like this. He was always so serious.

"I knew I was right when I said I liked you. You're something special." he said wiping tears that were coming out from his eyes. I smiled and shook my head, telling him to get back to work or he'll be honored to undergo the same treatment that his cooks went through. He quickly went to work.

"Finally!" one of the cooks said and plopped to the floor of the kitchen. We had finished cooking a few hours before the bonfire had started. The new greenie had arrived earlier this morning, but we were too busy in the kitchen that we didn't have time to go and see. Although, eventually we would see him anyways.

"Now clean yourselves up and we're going to have fun at the bonfire." I said smiling. "But who's going to serve the food?" a cook asked confused. "Ever heard of buffet style you shank?" I said smirking while crossing my arms.

As I left the kitchen, Newt ran up to me to ask if I was okay. He's such a worry wart sometimes, but it was nice to have him care about my well being. "Congrats Suzy! You're not the greenie anymore!" Newt shouted while running backwards waving bye to you. I laughed at his retreating figure.

From the corner of my eyes I saw Minho walking to the mapping room. I quickly looked away and went to take a shower before the bonfire started. I soon met the new greenie, his name was Chuck. A cute kid, if he was able to stop talking nonstop. He had a curly set of hair upon his head, and was the opposite of Newt, he was chubby.

"Wow! So you're the only girl here?" he said excited and grabbed my hands into his shaking it by force. I smiled, and squeezed his hand really hard. "Oww!!" he shouted in pain, as Newt laughed.

"Next time think twice before you grab my hand like that. Greenie." I said smiling, and let go of his hand. Chuck was doing a little dance that consisted of his turning in circles while flapping the hand that I had just shook. "Don't worry, it's not broken." I said chuckling after hearing him swear he couldn't move his hand anymore.

"How would you know?!" he shouted scared.

"She's one of the best med-jacks around. Even better than the keeper of med-jacks." Newt said winking at me. I winked back and smirked. "So don't mess with her, she's the one to decide if we live or not." Newt said as we both laughed at the greenie's face. Chuck was close to tears.

"He's just shucking with you." I said and left them to prepare the buffet style that this glade was never ever going to forget. I wonder why they have never thought of this in the first place...oh right, these boys don't know how to stop eating.

Finally the bonfire was starting. The keepers started the fire and Gally brought out his secret recipe. "Thanks to Suzy! This shucking recipe is now perfected and 100 times better than before. Prepared to get shucked up!" Gally shouted to the crowd, which made everyone around him cheer loudly.

"A special bottle just for you." Gally said as he handed me his newly recipe. "She won't be drinking any." Minho said taking the bottle from his hands. "All you had to do was ask if you wanted to share with her." Gally said a little tipsy from drinking too much from the newly recipe that he made, and walked away to hand some to the greenie who automatically spit it out and ran for water. Gally and a few others laughed.

"I'll be taking this back. It is mine after all." I said and took the bottle from Minho's hand. He didn't say anything, but took a seat next to me. The fire was what kept me warm from the chilly wind. I opened the bottle and took a few gulps, it was awkward sitting next to Minho. We haven't talked to each other for over a week.

"Want some?" I asked without look at him and held the bottle in front of him. He took the bottle from my hand, and gulped everything down to the last drop. "Hey!" I shouted as he threw the bottle to the ground after finishing it. "Why'd you finish it. Didn't you hear Gally, it was my bottle. I asked if you wanted some, not if you wanted to shucking finish it!" I said upset, and walked away from him.

"I'm going to need a new bottle. Dumb shank over there gulped it down in one go." I said to drunk Gally. "For you, anything!" he shouted loudly and handed me a new bottle. I thanked him and left him, as he rejoined the other builders who were singing horribly.

"I'm just going to gulp down that one too." I heard Minho's voice say from behind me as I was walking towards my hammock. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. I could see that he wasn't walking straight and stumbled as he was trying to catch up with me. He was shucking drunk.

I quickly put away the bottle in my cabinet, and turned around to bump into Minho's chest, falling flat on my butt. He tried to catch me, but his reflexes slowed down from being drunk and ended up falling on top of me.

"Get the shuck off me you shank." I said as mean as possible. I was still trying to make it seem as if I hated him, so he would forget about me.

"No." he said propping himself on one arm and stared into my eyes. I felt his breath upon my lips as he spoke those words. How badly I would kill for a kiss. "I don't want to." he said leaning his face closer to mine.

My hands twitched, as they so badly wanted to grasp his face and just kiss those lips of his. "Get off...please." I said turning my face away from his and felt his lips graze my neck. "Arggh!!!" he shouted after rolling off of me and laid beside me.

"Why?" he quietly said covering his eyes with his arm. "I still love you...and always will." Minho said making my heart beat rapidly in my chest. I didn't say anything, and looked over at him. I could see tears running down the side of his face. I slowly sat up and hugged my knees.

"You'll eventually get over me, and by the time we get out of this shucking maze, you'd probably find another girl out there. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only girl living, if people sent us up here." I said staring at party that was still going on at the bonfire.

"I guess it really is time for me to move on...I'm sorry that we ended things that way. But I don't want to end our friendship that we had before all this romance messed it up." he said sitting up after wiping his tears. "So don't go shucking tell everyone you saw me crying." he said smirking.

My heart squeezed in pain, but I smiled. "Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me." I said and watched as he stood up.

"Friends?" he said stretching his hand towards me. I took his hand and stood up. "Yeah...friends." I said smiling, although his words were ripping my heart into pieces once again.
