Chapter 4: Ruined
14:10, 29 October 2018* * *
Today they had morning practice. Kageyama got up pretty early since he had to take the train and then walk for another 45 minutes to school. He could take the bus but then you wouldn't call yourself an athlete is what Kageyama thought. Plus, Hinata was also walking the same way to school...
When he got closer, enough to see Karasuno High in the distance. He heard strange fast sounds behind him like someone was running. Kageyama turned around to see Hinata come at him with speed.
"GWAAAAAAH...!" Hinata yelled running past Kageyama. And so his instinct to not lose to this guy was activated.
"DUMBASS HINATA..!" Kageyama screamed following fast behind.
They finally stood at the entrance to the gym, panting like idiots. Hinata slowly slid down the wall and Kageyama leaning torwards it.
"That... makes 1-0 to me..." Hinata tried to say.
"Next time I'll win."
They stood there for a while breathing. The sun was almost up and pretty much nobody had come to school yet. It was very quiet. All Kageyama could hear was the breathing of himself. And when calmed down a little he could hear Hinata's breathing. He sounded like a fish out of water, but for some reason he didn't mind Hinata's annoying sounds at all. Now it's 16 minutes left before practice starts, and not a soul was to be seen. Except in the far distance a tall blonde guy with glasses and a guy with freckles walked torwards them.
"Oh! If it isn't the king himself!" The glasses guy smirked.
"Who are you?" Kageyama was irritated and suprised this guy new his awful nickname that he had tried to forget.
"I'm Yamaguchi and this is Tsukishima!"
"Shut up Yamaguchi!-" The tall guy cleared his troat and tried to get back on track.
"-Maybe you don't want to talk to us peasants. You're too good for us anyway." He continued.
"Nice Tsukki!" The guy with freckles grinned. Kageyama looked down on his feet in shame. This day was now ruined. Dammit. He thought that he could escape his past self by attending a school a fricking mile away from where he lives. But apparently even that didn't work. Hinata saw him clench his fists.
"Hey what do you think you're doing? Y-you wanna go!?" Hinata rose up until you could see the height difference between them. What was this guy, a mountain? He was even taller than Kageyama. Pfft, like that would intimidate Hinata Shouyou.
"Move aside shrimp, I only want to talk to the king." The guy with glasses pushed him aside. He was as light as a feather. Hinata stumbled back before regaining his balance.
"Oi, don't touch him."
"What? Is he your precious queen or something? How romantic."
The guy with freckles laughed.
"Shut up." Kageyama grabbed his volleyball club jacket? You gotta be kidding me, these two are on the volleyball team!? Now this day is even more ruined! He pulled him closer, now he was really pissed.
"Ooooooh?"
Kageyama clenched his fists harder. So hard it felt like he were stabbing himself with his fingers.
Hinata worringly tried to break them up. Even the other guy realized it were going a little out of hand.
"Stop it you two! Someone is gonna get hurt if you don't break up!" Hinata yelled between them while strugglig to push them both away. Maybe his words were a little to predictable because at that moment Kageyama raised his left fist in rage to punch the tall guy. But he hit another one istead.
"Oi you guys! What are you doing!?" Tanaka screamed from the distance running in their direction. Behind him ran Sugawara and Daichi. They looked awfully concerned.
"Hinata? Hinata!"
On the ground was a small spiker in pain covering his nose. What happened? It all went past so fast.
"What happened!?"
"Oi Hinata! Can you stand!?" The others was here now. Daichi tried to lift him up with the help of Sugawara.
"Hinata!? Can you hear me? You're not dead are you!?"
"...I'm fine Tanaka, you guys... it's just a nosebleed..."Kageyama watched him get up. His face saying it all. What have I done..? I-I need to apoligize.
"Hinata-"
"Don't worry Kageyama, I know you didn't do it on purpose... heh." His half smile was a weapon, cause Kageyama felt hit. His guilt pushing him further and further down.
Stop!
Just stop it all!
It's that Tsukishima's fault! Don't you dare call me king ever again- is what Kageyama would've said if he was not speechless at the moment.
For the rest of the day Hinata had a bunch of tissues and a patch on his nose. He wouldn't show it, but everyone could tell that he was hit pretty hard. At practice he also didn't get to play at all for his own sake. In a real volleyball match, a nosebleed meant sitting on the bench. And Kageyama knew what's it's like to be put on the bench, being out of commission. Awful.
Now two people's day was ruined.
———————————————————————Oof that was a pretty intense chapter, well lets wait and see what happens next. Thanks for reading so far!
