Dean Thomas // The Duo
18:44, 23 March 2019This one is kinda unique so, I decided to give it a try. Let me know what you think of it!
and oh my gosh do I even have to say what song I'm using? It is one of my favs and you guys should know this song. oldie, but goodie.

I shouldered my bag and walked out of the Common Room, my arm linked through Eva's, and let out a yawn, quickly covering it with my palm. Eva gave me a side eye and raised an eyebrow, "Up all night thinking about Thomas?"
"Oh, shut up. We're just friends! I was awake all night finishing the Transfiguration essay. We have to submit it today, remember?" I told her, and in silence we made our way down the stairs, ocassionally greeting a few people as we went.
"Friends? You've had a crush on him since forever!" Eva cried out.
I nudged her side, "Keep it down, will you? If I wanted the world to know I would've put posters saying so a long back ago!"
Eva and I walked to the Great Hall to have our breakfast, and as usual, she had to do something embarassing.
"Good morning, Gryffindors!" Eva called out and the whole table turned their heads to her. What a drama queen. I let go of Eva's arm in embarrasment and sat next to Dean. He greeted me and I returned the greeting with a smile.
"You know, the Yule Ball is getting closer, and I was wondering if you could come with me as my date?" Dean turned to me, his eyes searing onto me.
"Why me? Why not Marissa? The pair of you are really close." I tried not to sound bitter, but it evidently did sound so.
"She isn't you." Dean went back to eating his toast and I looked down at my plate, not knowing what to say. He always said those words whenever I spoke to him about any girl. He always compared me to the other girls.
"I'll take your silence as a yes." Dean stood up from his seat and straightened his robes.
I scoffed, "Oh, please. You would've taken me even if I said no."
"You know me so well." He shouldered his bag and patted his hair, "See you at Transfiguration? I'll save us a seat."
"Just make sure Finnegan doesn't know you're saving it for me. He'll get jealous." I dusted his robes, which had some strands of cloth on it.
"I can hear you!" Seamus yelled from my right.

"Fourth years, please pay attention." Professor McGonagall called out after the announcement of the Yule Ball and after the embarassing dance with Ron, "Professor Dumbledore has decided that during the Ball, he would like two students to...sing a song, because no other House agreed to send a student to participate." She said, her eyes on each one of us.
"Any volunteers?" Her eyes searched the crowd and Seamus yelled, "Y/N and Dean will do it!"
Dean and I stood up together to protest and before we could say another word, McGonagall smiled, "Very well. I hope the pair of you will give us a good song."
And with that, she left, her robes trailing after her. I glared at Seamus, who just shrugged. That bloody idiot.
After everybody was dismissed including Filch, Dean grabbed my wrist and said, "Come on."
I eyed him curiously as he slowly put the needle on the surface of the record player. He walked up to me with a small smile and put his hand out, "May I have this dance?"
I took his hand, "Yes, you may."
I placed my hand on his shoulder, my left hand on his extended right hand, whilst his left hand made its way to my waist, which made the butterflies in my stomach come to life.
We were so close to each other, I could feel his body warmth through my thin shirt. As the music softened, my extended hand made its way to Deans neck and I gently rested my head in the crook of his neck, his hands clutched my waist tighter and he buried his head in my neck, his lips on my skin, which had me shuddering.
"Just don't pull back already?" I requested him as I closed my eyes. I just wanted us to stay this way.
"I wasn't going to."

I straightened my dark blue dress that came down to my knees and didn't have any sleeves. Merlin, I was glad I waxed my legs and arms. I wanted to tie my hair in a bun, but Eva wouldn't let me. Instead, she let my hair fall on my shoulders.
I eyed the bracelet on my dresser. It was a gift from Dean, and it was a promise that he would be there for me no matter what. I sighed. Even though we weren't really dating, he had given it to me. I tied it around my wrist and took a deep breath in.
After spraying some perfume, I linked my arm through Eva's and we made our way downstairs to the Common Room. On the way, we saw Dean, whose eyes widened on seeing me.
Seamus whistled, "Merlin's beard, is this the girl who wouldn't mind wearing her pyjamas to a party and now is slayin' it in this dress...and HEELS! Who are you, and what have you done to Y/N?"
"Shut up, you tosser." Dean elbowed Seamus hard in the ribs. As I came closer to the pair of them he said, "You look amazing!"
"Thank you. You don't look that bad." I smirked at him, straightening his dark blue tie. Dean winked at me and offered his arm.
"Shall we, m'lady?" Dean bowed.
"Oh, stop it. Let's just get going!" I smacked his chest, making him grin at me, which drew my breath away.
Whilst walking down, arms linked, I suddenly remembered the fact that the two of us were going to sing. Which song, I had no idea.
"Dean." I abruptly stopped him, making him turn to me, "Which song are we singing?"
"Oh, just follow my lead and the music's. It's one of your favourite songs. And..." His cheeks dusted red, "I kinda wanted to dedicate it to you."
"Well, in that case, I can't wait to sing it...in my terrible voice." I kissed his cheek and Dean mumbled something under his breath that I didn't quite catch, but it did sound something like, "please...angel's voice..."
Dean and I danced, but didn't dance too much incase it would tire us because we had a song to sing. After about a few hours into the Ball, the music slowly died and Professor Dumbledore spoke, "I would like to call Ms. Y/N Y/L/N and Mr. Dean Thomas, who volunteered to sing us a song."
Eva wished me luck and I walked over to the stage, with Dean next to me, on another microphone. I adjusted the microphone, not sure what to say, when Dean began, "Tonight, we'll be singing a really famous song in the muggle world, so any of you out there know it, join in or just couple dance!" He didn't say out loud that he dedicated it to me, and I was glad he did so. No publicity required.
I looked at him hesitantly as the music began to play and my eyes widened. It was my favourite song, by my favourite Muggle singer. He dedicated this song to me?
Dean looked at me and back at the audience, and began to sing in that amazing voice of his,
"Wise men say, only fools rush in.But I can't help falling in love with you...Oh, shall I stay? Would it be a sin?If I can't help falling in love with you..."
I continued the lyrics,
"Like a river flows surely to the sea,Darling so it goes, some things are meant to be."
Dean joined in slowly, along with me,
"Take my hand, take my whole life, too.For I can't help, falling in love with you..."
I softly began to sing the next part,
"Oh, like a river flows, surely to th sea,Darling so it goes,Some things are meant to be."
Then, the two of us slowly sang together, the microphones in our hands, facing each other as our fingers laced each others. We looked at each other like there was no crowd, no teacher. Just us.
"Take my hand, take my whole life too.For I can't help falling in love with you.For I can't help falling in love with you."
I smiled as the crowd erupted in cheers, chanting, "More, more!"
I quickly let go of Dean's hand and bowed, running off the stage. I stopped, turned to face Dean and looked at him straight in the eye, "Did you mean it?"
Dean took a step ahead and took my hands in his, "Yes. Yes, I did."
My eyes flickered to his tie and back at him, "Since when?"
"I don't know. As we grew older, I just knew that I wanted to be by your side forever. Even if you don't agree, or even if it costs my own happiness." Dean brought my hand to his lips, grazing my knuckles.
We had been friends since the beginning of time. He had stuck by my side, helped me and had given his time to me and over the years I had thought, What would I do without Dean? And that's when it hit me. I was in love with Dean.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him. Godric, as much as I wanted to tell him now, I know I couldn't. Maybe I could in a few years when we're older and mature enough to take decisions. He seemed to be thinking the same thing; because he hadn't said it either.
All we did was enjoy each other's company...until Seamus burst in yelling, "Wonderful! Absolutely amazing performance!"
