Chapter 54

"Kim, wait!" He went to chase after her, but Wendy grabbed his arm.

"Where do you think you're going?!"

"After my wife." He yanked his arm away and went after her. He found her sitting at a table near the door, tear filled eyes.

"Let me explain."

"You kissed your ex girlfriend!"

"She kissed me. I tried getting away."

"You didn't have to stand there and take it. You could've fought her."

"I told you I was sorry." He sat next to her and tried rubbing her back, but she moved away from him.

"Don't touch me!"

"I'm trying to apologize."

"I said don't touch me and don't talk to me!"

"It wasn't my fault. She forced me into it!"

"You should've fought her! But no, you just sat there like a lifeless body and took it!"

"I didn't want it. You of all people should know that. You're my wife and I love you more than anything in this world."

"How am I supposed to believe that?!"

He lifted up her left hand. "You see this? That's your engagement ring and wedding band. You and I both know that if I didn't love you, those wouldn't be there."

She tried taking them off, but he put his hand in the way. "Don't you dare."

"You broke my heart."

"I already said I was forced to do that. I'm sorry you saw that, but you know Wendy. She always has to ruin something."

"Do the kids and I even mean a damn thing to you?!"

"You and the kids are my whole reason for living. If I didn't have you three in my life, I don't know what I would do. I wouldn't be able to live."

Stephanie walked in and saw them fighting. She shoved Adam aside. "What the hell did you do to my sister?! So help me god if you hurt her-"

"Steph, it's fine. Don't worry about it. He and I are talking."

"Then why are you crying?"

"That's not important."

"I know something is bothering you. Tell me what's wrong."

"It doesn't matter."

"You need to tell me what's upsetting you. I'm not leaving until I get an answer."

"We can talk about later, okay?"

"Fine."

She gave Adam a dirty look before leaving the table.

"Look at me." He demanded.

"I want nothing to do with you." She turned to face the window.

"Please, just look at me."

"NO!"

"You better look at me right this second or else."

She turned around.

"That worked."

"What?!"

He took her face in his hands and gave her a passionate kiss. He pulled back.

"You still mad?"

A smile stretched across her face. "Just shut up and kiss me again."

Leslie caught them and walked over. "Hey hey hey, continue that later. You know, when you're alone."

"Our place, one hour." Kim whispered into his ear. He got a big grin on his face.

"No wonder everyone calls you the sex addicts of the district."

"Everyone calls us what?!" Kim raised an eyebrow.

"You heard me." Leslie smiled to herself as she walked away.

Otis was glancing out the window. "Everyone shut up! Amber's here!"

Peter shut the lights off and everyone hid. Amber walked in, curious as to why the lights were off, yet there were cars parked outside all around. Hermann flicked the lights back on and everyone jumped up, yelling "Surprise!"

Her mouth dropped and then she couldn't stop laughing. "You guys remembered!"

Leslie came up behind her. "Damn baby, you look good tonight."

"Thanks, babe. How are you and little Ember there doing?" She rubbed her belly.

"She's kicking me something fierce, but we're both great."

Everyone quieted down. "Amber, there's something I've been meaning to ask you." Leslie said, looking all around, not wanting direct eye contact.

"What's that?"

"If I get down I might not be able to get back up, but I'm gonna ask you anyway." She removed the ring box from her pocket, opening it.

Amber put her hand over her mouth. "Oh my god..."

"Amber, will you marry me?"

She took one more look and everyone was nodding their heads, hoping she would say yes.

"Hell yeah I will!" Everyone started clapping as Leslie placed the ring on Amber's finger, giving her a quick peck after it was on. As they went to walk over to the snack table, Leslie felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.

"Uh guys..."

Everyone looked at her.

"It's time!"

Megan started dialing 911, while Amber and Gabby were helping Leslie to the car. When they got there, Will was standing at the desk talking to the receptionist. He whipped around when he heard the doors open.

"Hey what's going on here?"

"I'M HAVING A BABY! WHAT THE HELL DOES IT LOOK LIKE?!" Leslie grabbed him by the shirt and screamed in his face.

"Let's get you into a room, huh?" He brought them up to the birthing ward and in to an empty delivery room.

"When did your water break?"

"About fifteen minutes ago."

"That means it could be a while. Woman have been known to be in labor for days."

"Are you TRYING to kill me?!"

He laughed. "I know how much pain you're in right now. I've having them get the epidural ready as we speak. That will take the pressure off your lower back and legs."

"Get this thing out of me already!"

Hank came walking in.

"I thought you and Camille had some business to take care of?"

"It's done. I just came to give you something."

"What?"

He handed her a crumpled paper bag. She unfolded it and inside was a hundred thousand dollars. He thought she was going to have a heart attack.

"I can't take this."

"I want you to have it."

"What did I do that made you want to give me this?"

"I know you've been asking for a raise, and you'll get one soon. I know you have a bunch of expenses coming up with Ember. This is to keep you financially set until you return to work in a couple months. Don't bother giving it back. It's yours."

"I don't know how I could ever repay you."

"How about being the best mom Ember could ever have?" He smiled his usual half smile.

"I think I can do that."

"I'll see you, kid."

"Are you coming back?"

"I'll be back in the morning. Take care of yourself." He left the room.

While she was delivering, Amber and Megan were the only two allowed in the room. Amber came out to the waiting room in scrubs a couple hours later. Everyone had anxiously been awaiting.

"It's a girl." She smiled.

Kelly was told he could be the first one to go in.

"She's beautiful." He stared in awe at little Ember.

"She really is."

Kim noticed something a bit odd. "She must have her father's eyes. Your eyes are blue and hers are a light brown."

"She must."

"Ha. She's got Severide's nose. WHOA...wait a minute..."
