Chapter 53

01:20, 30 March 2020

A couple months passed, still no word on a trial date. Nadia was headed in a downwards spiral because she basically lived in fear. She would stay up all night and was afraid to step outside the house. After bringing her to her therapy session, Kim dropped by Leslie's house for a visit.

"Hey preggo." She laughed when she walked in the door.

"Hey." Leslie looked up from the TV.

"I brought you a cobb salad with extra dressing like you asked." She said, handing her a bag.

"You are a lifesaver."

"You look like you're going to pop any day now."

"I feel like a freakin' blimp." Leslie said, stuffing a forkful of salad into her mouth.

"She's going to adore you, though. You're going to be a great mom."

"I feel bad that she'll never know her father. I don't even know who it is."

"You didn't ask for any information on the donor when you had it done?"

"I didn't really want to know anything about him. I wanted it to be kept anonymous."

"Someday she's going to wonder why she doesn't have a father."

"That's not what I'm concerned about."

"What else is on your mind?"

"What's she going to say when she finds out I'm a lesbian?"

"She's your daughter and will love you no matter what."

"I do want to get married someday."

"Have you thought about taking your relationship with Amber further? I'm sure she's ready for it."

"We've been dating what, four months now? We've said we loved each other, we've gone to second base-"

"Shut it, I don't need to hear any further details. I feel like you should take the next step. You guys live together now. I say go for it."

"What do you mean by the next level exactly?"

"Ask her to marry you."

"You crazy?!"

"I'm being reasonable, I think it's time."

"But this soon though?"

"I think it's fine. You two live together now. Is she excited for the baby?"

"She's over the moon excited."

"That little girl is going to have the greatest moms in the world. Do it."

"I don't have a ring."

"Check your purse."

"What did you do?"

"Check your damn purse." Kim said, through gritted teeth.

Leslie dumped her purse out on the coffee table. One of the things that fell out was a tiny, ring box. "Alright, who did that?"

"It was Gabby and Jessica's idea. I had nothing to do with it."

Leslie squinted her eyes.

"Okay fine, I had something to do with it. They gave me the money and I bought the ring. That was it, I swear."

Her expression remained unchanged.

"Okay, it was Hermann's idea. He thinks you and Amber are great together. In fact, everyone at the house does."

"Even Peter?"

"Even Peter."

"What about-"

"Voight thinks the same as everyone else. He said it would be nice to see you settle down. You've hardly spoken a word since Julie died. You two were attached at the hip and it kills me to see you like this."

"I will. On one condition."

"What's the condition?"

"The last name will be Shay-Alvarez."

"I doubt the last name thing will be an issue with her. She's more about the looks."

"She spends an hour on her hair in the morning for pete's sake." Leslie said, getting up from the couch and heading into the kitchen.

Kim pointed to the coffee table. "You still hungry after all that?"

"I'm eating for two right now, you can classify me as a bottomless pit." She reached into the cupboard, pulling out a big plastic bowl and a party sized bag of Doritos.

"I take it she likes those?" Kim asked.

"She loves them. Since the start of my third trimester, it's all I've wanted."

"Everyone's at Molly's right now, let's go."

"I look like a baptized cat. I'm not leaving this house until I look like a babe magnet."

After Leslie was done getting dressed, she came out and modeled her outfit.

"One more thing." Kim got up.

"What?"

She pulled the neck down on Leslie's dress, so a bit of cleavage would show.

"You want me to walk around with my girls hanging out?!" She yelled, fighting Kim with the neckline.

"This night is about impressing Amber. You get me?"

"Yes your majesty." Leslie muttered.

"What was that?"

"You heard me."

When they got to Molly's, Amber wasn't there. Kim walked over to the bar.

"Hey Hermann, where's Amber?"

He shrugged. "She said she was on her way. Then again, I can never trust a single word that woman says."

"That couldn't be more true."

"Want a drink?" He asked, holding up a glass.

"Sure. I'll take a shot of Bud."

"Coming right up."

He reached for a shot glass, poured a little in it and then passed it down to her. She downed it and asked for another. When he was pouring the second one, the door opened. Kim looked over, hoping to god it was Amber who had walked in. Much to her dismay, it wasn't. Instead, it was Wendy. Wendy was Adam's ex girlfriend. Hermann leaned over the counter and looked at Kim.

"Don't look now, but the wicked witch just walked in."

Kim stifled her laughter so Wendy wouldn't notice her. "That was a good one. I'll remember that next time I see her."

Wendy walked over to Adam. "Hey! I haven't seen you in a long time. It's great to see you again."

He was hesitant. "Nice to see you again."

"What have you been up to?"

"I'm married and have two kids."

"Wow, that must be exciting. Can we talk outside for a minute?"

"Um...I guess so."

They went into the back parking lot.

"Who's the lucky lady?"

"You remember Kim?"

"The homewrecker? How can I forget?"

"Take it easy, Wendy. It was my fault too."

"I was in love with you. We were going to get married. I never got my happy ending. Instead of that, I got crapped on."

"I thought it would be best that we didn't see each other anymore."

"That slut ruined us! WE were meant to be. Not you and her!"

"Five minutes ago you said you were happy and now you're all pissed off?"

"I was happy until you told me it was Kim you married. She kissed you and you didn't pull back. Care to explain?!"

"Wendy, that was seven years ago. Let it go already."

"You were mine and that's the way it should've stayed."

"That's not happening. I'm in love with her and nothing is going to change that. I've wanted to be with her ever since we were kids. I'm not fighting with you anymore."

"Like hell you're not. I'm taking you back! I don't care what she thinks."

"Don't you think about it!" He tried fighting her off.

"Too late." She threw herself at him, placing her lips on his.

"Hey Adam-" Kim opened the back door and saw them.

"Karma is a bitch, isn't she?" Wendy gave a cocky smile in Kim's direction.

"How could you?!" She ran back into the bar.
