Chapter 12

08:33, 29 March 2017

Twenty six year old Kim rolled around in her bed, slamming her hand on the alarm clock. Yesterday she graduated the police academy,  and today was her first day on the job. After showering and dressing, she made herself a quick breakfast before leaving. Once at the district, she walked inside very confused as to where to go. There was an older woman standing behind the desk.

"Hey you." She said rather loud.

Kim walked over to her. "Are you talking to me?"

"Yeah I am. Are you the new cop?"

"Yeah, I'm supposed to start today. I don't know exactly what I'm doing though."

Trudy looked up at the stairs, a maroon haired woman was coming down them.

"Kim, this is Detective Halstead. She'll tell you what to do."

The woman smiled at her. "It's nice to meet you. This your first day?"

"Yeah."

"It's really not as scary as it sounds."

They started to walk away.

"I'm Erin, by the way. No one here ever calls each other by their last names."

"Erin...I wonder where I've heard that name before."

"It's a pretty common name. Where did you hear it?"

"When I was a little girl, I went to summer camp with a girl named Erin."

"Hold on...what was the name of the camp?"

"Riverwalk."

"Was this Erin in a cabin called Deer Beach?"

"That's it!"

Erin could not believe it. "That's me, well I mean that was me. I never thought I'd see you again!"

Kim hugged her. "I can't believe it's you! What have you been up to all these years?"

"Remember Jay?"

"How could anyone forget him?"

"He and I got married, we have a little girl now."

They got upstairs and everyone was at their desks. Erin spoke up.

"Hey guys, look who's joining the department."

They all looked up and waved, going right back to their work.

"Do you guys not remember who she is? We all went to camp together!"

Antonio looked over. "Of course I remember her. She's the little brat who saran wrapped the door to Matt and I's beds in the cabin. It's been sixteen years and he still hasn't let it go."

"What's he up to these days?"

"Remember my sister? The one with the huge crush on him?"

"He's all she ever talked about."

"They're married and have a daughter."

Kim started laughing. "Looks like you lost that bet."

"Laura and I got married, too. We have a son and daughter now."

"She was all over you."

"Tell me about it." He laughed and then went back to doing paperwork.

Erin smirked when she looked back over at Kim. "Guess who else works here?"

"Who?"

"Remember your boy toy?"

"Drop it, Erin. We were ten years old."

"Go check out the desk on the other side of this filing cabinet."

She peeked over, only to see Adam sitting there on the computer. He didn't even notice her spying and went on typing away. She looked back at Erin.

"How am I supposed to remember him?"

"You're the biggest idiot alive if you don't know who that is."

"Who is he?"

"I just said your boytoy. As in Adam, the boy you had a big crush on."

Her eyes went wide. "That's him?"

"You better believe it. When he's not in the room you should take a look at his desk. He's got an old photo of you two from camp."

"Please tell me it's not the one of us at the pool."

Erin quietly laughed. "You're shit outta luck on that one."

"Oh he is so dead."

"Go say hi." Erin nudged Kim before walking back to her desk.

Adam went to get up and go to the copy room, but not before bumping into her.

"Oh I'm sorry...well hello." He smirked.

"I'm sorry, I should watch where I'm going."

"No no. It was my fault, I'm sorry."

Hank came out of his office. "Hey, new girl. I need you to make a delivery for me."

"Yeah sure. Where?"

"Down to House Fifty One."

"The fire department?"

"That's the one. Here you go." He said, handing her a package.

"I'll be right back." She said, heading down to her car and taking off.

She walked into the firehouse while they were all sitting around.

A blonde woman dressed in a paramedic uniform sat at the table, surrounded by another woman in the same uniform as well as other firefighters.

"Is Boden here?" She asked. Everyone pointed to an office and she walked in there.

"Ah, this must be the package from Voight. Thank you for the delivery." He was grateful that she had gone out of her way.

"You're very welcome." She shook his hand.

As she went to walk out, the blonde woman stopped her.

"I know you from somewhere. Do you remember me at all?"

"No, I'm afraid not. Should I?"

"We were bunkmates at summer camp, when we were younger. I was the blonde girl who slept in the bottom bunk. You threw a pencil case at my head once."

Kim laughed. "Oh my god I remember that! You snored really loud."

They could hear stifled laughter from everyone.

"I have a sleep disorder, excuse me!"

Everyone started laughing again. After a little bit, Kim went to leave.

"It's breakfast. Why don't you stay while?" Leslie asked her.

"I guess I could stay a bit."

"Yay!" Leslie exclaimed, clapping her hands like a little girl.

Kim had an hour before her shift started, so she visited with them for a little while. Matt came walking in with a coffee in hand, and a box from Dunkin Donuts in the other. After he set the stuff down, Leslie kicked him in the back of the leg.

"Matt, say hi." He turned around.

"Oh hey." He said with a grin on his face.

"Take it easy there, fireman."

"All I said was hi."

"Where's Gabby?"

"Over there." He motioned for her to come over to them. Kim noticed a ring on Gabby's left hand.

"Is that what I think it is?!" Her eyes went wide. Gabby laughed.

"Yes it is. He proposed to me on Christmas this past year and he wants to get married this summer."

All the girls screamed with excitement.

"Oh for heavens sake, will you guys shut up? It's like you just saw a shirtless picture of Channing Tatum or something." Peter rolled his eyes.

"Oh be quiet! You're just cranky because you ain't getting any." She turned back to Leslie, Kim and Matt. "We say that a lot around here."

When some time had passed, she looked at her watch.

"I have to get to work. Sorry guys!" She said, getting up from her chair.

"Dinner later, girly?" Leslie asked.

"Of course!"

"Say seven tonight?"

"Sounds great!"
